Excellent, quick repair of costume jewelry via mail. I had a pair of costume jewelry earrings from the 1950s that needed to be converted from clip-on to pierced earring backings. After being turned down by 2 very reputable jewelers, who declined to repair 2 antique Italian mosaic bracelets, I was referred to Rhinestone Rosie. She did an amazing job, restoring the links to make them wearable again. even though they were made of "base metal", nickel I presume. And when she returned them to me. they were beautufully wrapped and placed in a lovely velvet bracelet box. I used to love this place. It's filled to the brim with fabulous vintage costume jewelry. But recently, I knew my relationship with Rhinestone Rosie had to end. Rosie was nothing but gracious, helpful & professional to work with. Rosie doesn't seem to be in the shop much anymore. Her daughter, Lucia, has been there the past several times I've been in. I've had several unpleasant interactions with Lucia-- she's been rude, irritable and has spoken to me in a sarcastic tone. All of this has been puzzling to me. At one point I asked a question and Lucia actually rolled her eyes... I've heard her speak to other customers similarly. I rarely write a negative review, but felt it was time to express myself. I went on a vintage hunt in Seattle and this was by far my favorite spot. Rhinestone Rosie's shop is divine. I found so many great things. I settled on a green bracelet, Rosie saw I was having trouble with the small clasp and she changed the clasp for me. What great service. I have been checking out costume jewelry on eBay for a while and I thought Rosie's prices were way better. The shop has a great selection, even hair ornaments and fancy belts. A shop full of so many unique bargains, displayed in a way you can actually see is a rare treat. This is a cute consignment jewelry shop tucked away in a little Queen Anne neighborhood. I've been inside several times. I feel like whenever I enter I'm judged as perhaps not a serious buyer. I am tired of ignoring the elephant in the living room, which is the attitude of the people who own the shop. I've twice been so offended by the store's owner that I will never return. The first time, she was curt and rude to me I figured she was having a bad day. No. This is her basic personality. I brought a ring in for repair, telling her a little about it, where i'd bought it and that it was rather old. She disagreed with me regarding it's provenance and age although I have paperwork on it from a reputable jeweler in NYC. Then to top it off, she quoted a 280.00 price to simply remount the stone that had fallen out due to a pulled back prong (still attached!). all that sparkles does NOT shine ! Referred here by a Ballard cocktail waitress & by a mgr @ Menashe & Sons in West Seattle: Menashe sends her biz, & Rosie recips, so there's that explanation. One palm greasing the other-is that the cliche? anyways, Menashe convinces me 2 take about 5 vintage pieces 2 RR because she can 'do just about anything' w/ cheaper materials. Not true. RR is more about selling stock, not repairing. I drop in there on Sept 29th. 1st of all, Rosie & daughter Lucia r both just so INSUFFERABLY HIGH ON THEMSELVES. I arrive there- a MAZE 2 get 2- they're remodeling, they're both impatient, no concealing what can only be called exasperation w/ the ideas i have 4 soldering a ring onto a chunky vintage chain & replacing a few stones in a very unusual gem that was my fiance's deceased father's, & a few other basics, like a secure jump ring for a locket w/ my beloved deceased 14 yo cat, (he died 4 months before deceased dad of fiance last year), so these pieces were imbued w/ emotional vibration 4 my guy & I ,These women can barely manage 2 give me the time of day. I'm feeling defensive & all 3 of us r flipping attitude in 1 way or another. Rosie rejects wholesale an idea of mine 4 attaching a ring 2 the chunky vintage chain- i mean, there's ways of guiding someone w/out making them feel like an idiot. Tension builds. From the start, Lucia wants 2 help me,but i wanted 2 strictly consult w/ Rosie, having been referred 2 her. La Lucia was sooo miffed, & Rosie-she cudn't be bothered-as she was busy w/ her electrician or whatever contractor was there. My fiance wanted to audio record the RR interaction w/ his iPad,. i said no-what purpose wud it serve? But OH, how he was dying 2 walk out the door-he stayed 2 see how much more rude they both cud be.. Folks, I've lived in SF for the past 27 years, & i KNOW attitude. i also know how those with 'The Knowledge' also ACKNOWLEDGE that social networks exist, bad reviews r NOT good 4 biz, & COMMON COURTESY IS ALWAYS A GREAT IDEA! I try 2 assuage their ridiculous bizarre egos by dropping i think $40 (they disco'd me $5) on a rhinestone necklace-w/out a clasp on the end- & Miss Thing Lucia tells me that necklaces were made thus way back. Well, the necklace fell off into my lap the next day. it's put aside until i can work a clasp onto the end of it. i would've been so irate had i not recovered it.. so....Rosie calls me w/in a week & leaves me a msg saying she couldn't work on most of my order-she did the simpler pieces though & I can fetch them. I'm thinking, this is just a bad vibe! she sounds so imperious. Wish i could return that darn necklace that I myself must make secure. There was a palpable dismissive tone 2 the voicemail- akin 2 not valuing my patronage. A shame, cuz I told her initially, i tend 2 heap biz on artisans like herself & i wud've been a steady customer. RR wud have a glowing review, & friends referred. We didnt' even want 2 return 2 that witchy little chamber of snobbery & rudeness! It took us until October 27th, which is the day of the month that my cat died, 2 rally a game face 2 drive over there. I simply had 2 rescue Asha & his locket from the clutches of those two harpies b4 his anniversary passed.. Can u believe she used verbiage when i arrived 2 get my locket like "you know how it is when you're just not FEELING IT? " with regards 2 the rejected pieces? after deep reflection, (lol) I just do not know what the heck she meant, let alone how she cud be so deliberate talking down 2 a customer like that. deal w/ this: La Lucia has this foot cast on- as well as that mean look on her face-ia permanent facial expression of hers-it's cast in stone-not rhinestones-more like cement & she moves swiftly past me -nearly comes into contact with me. Foot cast or not, she remembered how i didn't want 2 deal w/ her initially, but i DID buy the precarious necklace from her, & i did discover that she was a trained goldsmith. WHATEVS, really. My point is that RR = a big fish in a small pond., Going 2 the lofty Queen Anne district (where else wud these deluded 'noble women' desire 2 ply their trade?) has made me disillusioned w/, Menashe & Sons & Rhinestone Rosie's is the nasty,artificial icing on THAT piece of cake. If any of u ever get 2 SF, stop by Bell'ochio, a very unique French notions boutique, where the staff are very eccentric, but always circumspect & polite 2 you, even when you can sense a whiff of condescension. Finding out that Rosie is an Antiiques Roadshow mamma explains all the attitude! i wish the Roadshow folks cud secret shop the witchy-poo palace w/ some quirky gem ideas & feel 'the love' NOT!. i wud remove this review if i cud return the blighted rhinestone necklace i bought! I would give them ten stars if I could. Rosie's daughter is the goldsmith and she was able to help me create some truly one of a kind pearl earring and pendent set from some vintage jewelry. They were so easy to deal with and the final product exceeded my expectations. They really went the extra mile with their attention to detail. And it was all for a very reasonable price. If you are looking for something that is truly unique but will not have you taking out a second mortgage go here. Really disappointing experience with Rhinestone Rosie yesterday. My sister had called ahead to make an appointment to look over some costume jewelry she'd inherited (as the website suggests), and was told an appointment wasn't necessary and that she should just plan to come by anytime during open hours. So we both took the day off yesterday specifically to visit the shop together, only to arrive and be greeted by a sign on the door saying they're closed for two days to attend a jewelry show. No warning on the website that the shop would be closed. Complete waste of a precious vacation day. If they'd just let her schedule an appointment, or put a notice on their website about the closure that they must have known about for months, we could have saved ourselves an entire day's time and some serious frustration. Really disappointed at the lack of thought for their clients' time. Undecided if we will try to visit again or find someone else to talk to. read more

My review refers purely to the customer service at RR's. Their jewelry selection is beautiful and they did a wonderful job fixing a necklace of mine. That said, the customer service is sub-par. It took them more than twice the amount of time they originally quoted to fix my necklace, something they did not communicate clearly to me about, and I missed wearing it at a very special event as a result. In addition the girl who was working at the shop both times I went in was curt, almost sarcastic, to the point of being rude and made my transaction way more awkward than was necessary. I couldn't wait to get out of the store and it seemed like she couldn't wait for us to leave. Not an atmosphere that is condusive to browsing (or returning). They gave me half off my repair, which is something. However, if there was another shop in Seattle that repaired costume/vintage jewelry AND had staff that were even remotely approachable or friendly I would go instead in a heart beat. read more

Rosie is a gem & her store is fabulous! Rosie is knowledgeable, (she's appeared on the Antiques Road Show). She's enthusiastic & honest. ( She steered me away from an expensive purchase.) Rhinestone Rosie's shop was well worth my trip by bus from West Seattle. The only reason I don't give it a 5th star is because of how her employee treated me. Even though I brought 7 items for possible work, she treated me like dirt. I can't remember anyone in retail ever treating me in such a surly manner. And even though I told her twice that I didn't appreciate her manner, she continued treating me in an offensive condescending way. When my jewelry is ready for pick up, I'll make sure she's not there. It's a jewel of a place but severely tarnished when she is there. read more

I went to Rhinestone Rosie on the recommendation of my late grandmother. She had bought several sets of costume jewelry there as well as having pieces repaired. Since I had always heard such good reviews from my grandmother I had expected a much better experience than I had. Prior to my visit I researched some of my late grandmother's costume jewelry sets and found them to be moderately valuable, well over the $100 range. Additionally, I noted that their web site said you could bring in any old jewelry to see if they would be interested. I figured what the heck; I have plenty of jewelry in a box gathering dust. I was greeted by a younger woman, who was at the very least brusque and seemingly apathetic during the whole encounter. I explained that while I had had appraisals on antique jewelry performed before I was not aware of how they worked for costume jewelry. I had wrapped all of the pieces in tissue to prevent any damage; this seemed to amuse her a great deal. She mentioned that they charged for appraisals over a certain number of pieces. Her tone came off as if she expected me to leave because I must not have the funds to pay. As she inspected the different sets of jewelry she was rather snide in her tone, asking what I wanted to know. I mentioned value, history, maker, general areas of interest. She replied "well it's a pin, its red, and its shiny" and then proceeded to hold it up to her coat. I was rather taken aback at her demeanor and realized then that my trip was a lost cause. My other favorite comment while going through my old throw away jewelry was that "this is all really low quality stuff". Of course I brought in the odds and ends, their web site states they want to look at such things for hidden treasures. Change your web site content if you don't want odds and ends brought in. Better yet hire a sales clerk that knows how to work with the public in a professional manner. Certainly the one working there needs a lesson in tact. She gave value estimates that were so low I had trouble not laughing at her blatant attempts to lie. I had some gold, very little, which I was willing to sell. She offered me $40 for what I later sold for $88. Additionally with that forty dollar offer she wanted to take an $80 gothic choker, a Lucite pin from the 1930's, and a few other items. It has been a long time since anyone has so blatantly tried to cheat me and insult my intelligence at the same time. I have since sold all the items that she offered me a paltry $40 for, for well over $350. I realize the economy is not booming right now and small businesses have to make a profit. But there is great difference between profit and outright cheating. My recommendation is to avoid this business if you want to sell costume jewelry. She has a large selection and if you are looking to buy then this is a good start. read more

I had a broken rhinestone necklace which a boyfriend gave to my mom when she was 16 years old. My mom died when she was 55 and this broken piece had sat in my drawer for years. One side of the necklace was completely gone and the other side had many missing rhinestones along with the dangling middle triangle piece had rhinestones missing. I never in a million years thought that it could be repaired but I held onto it with precious memories of my mom. Until recently, a woman told me about Rhinestone Rosie. I didn't think it would hurt to have her look at it and see if it could be repaired and the missing pieces replaced. Just a couple of days ago, my husband picked up the piece. It is absolutely beautiful and I hope somewhere in heaven my mom is smiling. This piece is more valuable to me then diamonds and sapphires. There's a single blue stone dangling from the center. After seeing them profiled on tv, I sent them an old Kenneth Jay Lane brooch that I had that needed fixing. A few of the stones had fallen out of the flowers. They did a fabulous job. They matched the stones, did it in a timely way and returned it to me. They were good at keeping me informed about when to expect it back and how much it would be before they worked on it. I am sure it's a different story if you are buying jewelry here rather than selling your family collection of heirlooms. I ended up feeling very taken advantage of when I went here a year or two ago and Rosie and her daughter assessed my collection and offered me an extremely low group offer for the items they wanted and they wanted a lot of items. i did it because I needed money but afterward I felt very taken advantage of. I have seen Rosie on Antiques Roadshow so I know she's very well informed but when they looked at my collection they didn't offer me any info about other options and prices I might get for selling my items and they were very cagey about it all. They talked to each other throughout the assessment and said things that they thought I couldn't understand and they bought as much of my marked gold and silver stuff as they could get away with. In retrospect I wish I had my stuff back and that I never went there in the first place but I had heard good things. They scrounged through my items and treated me without respect, I felt. I think the store concept, layout and the contents are magnificent. The first time I was there, the older proprietor was welcoming and engaging. However, I had a bad experience there with a younger woman, and I am not planning to come back to the store ever. I was given a gift certificate and it took a about a year to figure out what I wanted from the store. I decided to go back and purchase an expensive wedding present for my friend, using the gift certificate. I also planned to purchased some smaller gift certificates for some of my employees. When I arrived, I overheard a disturbing transaction between a younger woman behind the counter and someone selling some jewelry. It was uncomfortable and I have to say I thought the woman behind the counter to be rude and haughty. She must have been in a bad mood, because when I asked her to see some bracelets, she was off-handed and arrogant. When I showed her my gift certificate she said, rather coldly, "Oh this is old. Look at the date. I'm not honoring this." I was so disappointed. I wanted to love that store but instead, I felt creepy. Yucky experience. Beautiful jewels. read more

While reading the reviews, I can empathize with some of the comments regarding service, but I assure you that Rosie has always been professional and gone the extra mile to be of service to the many strange requests that I have made of her for jewelry repair. I have taken many items to this store over the years. I agree with the folks that say the customer service is most lacking. I have disliked going there for several years now, but have had little choice since she's the only game in town. Lucia has a quite disagreeable, haughty manner. If Rosie isn't there, you are likely to be overcharged for a simple repair. Rosie has become quite snooty as well and is more interested in looking at online photos of her grandchild than she is in helping customers. In the old days, (prior to Antique Roadshow 'fame' and birth of grandchild) she actually acted like she wanted your business. The new employee does not do a good job on repairs, so it seems like now the only reason to go there is if you want to rub up against people who exhibit that they clearly think they are doing you a favor to be in business. Long story short 4 months ago I reached out to Rosie after doing a tad bit of research. She immediately responded saying she wouldn't mind coming to my house and looking through what I have and share her knowledge with me and would be willing to do it for her choice in a few pieces. Woo hoo I felt I hit the jackpot on the being on the receiving end of a "Roadshow" expert. So in my response I clarified her terms and asked how many pieces would like she like to choose. The next morning in her response I felt as if I somehow offended her now she couldn't come to my house and she charges $300 an hour and as it stands she is not able to do house calls and suggested I visit Seattle I was way too busy at the moment but would definitely plan a trip. She gave me some advise but I was left wondering why the plan changed so suddenly when I attempted to make the terms crystal clear. Fast forward to today 4 months later and I get a small duffle bag together of pieces I have found little no info on. Also I will proudly add that I am walking in to this meeting ALOT WISER! I have spent at least 4-5 hours of everyday since our first convo researching learning and studying. I'm not expert but I'm not as naive as I was before but nobody needed to know that :)I put $80 in my gas guzzling diesel and off we go. We get there and I walk in and am greeted pleasantly and sincerely,she tells me to bring my things to the back counter and she digs right in. I will add here that 3 weeks ago 1 week after my 36 birthday I suffered a heart attack!! IDK YOUR THE EXPERT) I knew right then something was up but I walked away so she could assist a couple customers and when I came back anxious to hear her quote because now I can pay my bills and buy food and I can't tell you how much pressure that would take away. So I pull a Tiffany bracelt from the open heart collection out and tell her that's Tiffany this is gold these blue topaz earrings are platinum an 18k star sapphire ring with the 2 diamonds that I had put in. When I removed the last ring she told me that if I'm taking that ring she is going to have to drop tothe price all the while I noticed her growing more rigid as I'm picking out items and she is getting closer and closer to her tray of stuff she was trying to leagally steal from me like I was some crack head looking for an easy $20 from stolen goods to get my next fix!! So I gave her a pair of 3 stone drop fire opal earring and a rogue 2 stone black opal broken piece and a shell bracelet for her time as she reminded me that most of my things were scrap!!
