Lighting and bath fixtures: how can something with the appearance of timeless substance and great design be so poorly made!?! Behind the patina of RH's spectacular art direction is the epitome of near-criminal Chinese manufacturing. A massively heavy medicine cabinet with (what appears to be) a precision piano hinge doesn't close without hitting the frame; light fixtures that are designed to be around a vanity are so dim you can barely see to brush your teeth. Attempt to change the fluorescent bulb, and the connections collapse under their own weight. We ordered 4 items, of which we had to return or exchange 3. Remember to add the cost of the electrician and construction of installing twice. This is an enterprise that needs to get it's act together. There is very little behind the gloss of their sexy catalogs. A 9 on design, a zero on engineering. If your looking for "Restoration Hardware", try Rejuvenation Hardware instead. Prices are higher, but they seem to actually have some engineering and quality control. read more

The quality of the products we purchased is very poor. We purchased the martine chairs and the flatiron table. The table was suppose to be rustic and the one in the showroom was that. The table we received was primitive. You couldn't put your hands on the table without getting splinters. The chairs were of equally poor quality. Two of the chair legs were cracked. The remaining chairs had legs that varied from maybe seeing a piece of sandpaper before stain to being so rough that the surface has splinters. The company seems to be more about image than offering a truly fine product. They appear to be in profit taking mode maximize income at the sacrifice of quality. Don't be surprised if this company goes out of business. They definitely don't seem to care about their products. read more

I absolutely love this store!!!!! If only I could borrow their designer to decorate my condo, which I currently do not own so this is perfect. Imaginary for imaginary. Everybody who works here is very friendly, attentive, and always eager to help you find exactly what you are looking for. Trust me, during the holidays, that is very hard to consistently do. Some interesting pieces, but a lot of cruft to shift through. The sales staff is hit or miss, some seem totally uninterested in being helpful and some totally know the catalog. The main reasons for 2 stars in the delivery service. They called with an automated voice and then put me on hold and asked me to leave a message. So, they called me to leave a message! When they called back, I had to wait on hold for 10 minutes (when they called me!). Then, they insisted on knowing what "community" I lived in to get deliver. As if their drivers don't have GPS and they've never heard of a block system. Maybe they expect all their customers to live in gated communities? Never again. And, they added me to their *daily* email list after I specifically asked not to receive mailings. read more

WOW. The service was great. I did need to ask for some help finding my massive amounts of cabinet hardware but once I got help....it was on. The girl was new but she never made me feel like "How the hell did I get stuck with the new kid?" They didn't have much of what I needed so she called the downtown store and found the rest. Had me rung up and out the door AT BOTH STORES. All I had to do was run into the Downtown store to pick up my goods. Highly recommend. They do great with online orders too. read more

I purchased 8 panels of silk organza curtain panels several years ago. The panels were fairly expensive. The silk has deteriorated over the past year. I have long vertical linear areas where the silk has deteriorated. I have two panels in which there are areas were the silk has completey "broken down" leaving large holes. The curtains were in my living room and dining room. I have recently read UV light may distroy silk. My panels did not recieve a lot of direct sun light. I am VERY disappointed in the quality of this product. I have contacted customer service, but I am not hopeful of a resolution. I would not buy the sik organza panels. read more

Be wary of shipping charges. This store's return policy and customer service leave a lot to be desired. I spent over $500 on new bath linens. I wanted to try one rug listed in their catalog but not carried in the store and they ordered it for me -- I saw later a $17 shipping charge. The rug was too large and I called customer service and was told I could take it into the store for an exchange. The salesperson (turned out to be the manager) said she would "send it back for me" and the two rugs would be treated as a separate purchase. I asked and she confirmed there would be another $17 charge for shipping to return the rug. I'm used to shopping at places that offer free shipping both ways. Wow! The quality of the table and chairs I purchased was so poor...I bought the tilt top table...the finish started coming off the minute we started using it! The wicker bistro chairs finish on the wicker rubbed off on our clothes and the chairs are so rough that you get splinters and your clothes catch on it. I called RH and they wanted me to package it up,(the table weighs a ton) and send it back! Seriously?! They won't credit my purchase until they receive the merch back, so I am stuck with no table and chairs and no money until they do credit it...and we are talking over $1500. This stuff is worse than ikea!! I love their designs but I won't shop with RH anymore as their quality is just so poor...this isn't my first purchase and I had to return the other products for defects as well. read more

So I bought a pair of nightstands from here. I wasn't home when they arrived I was running behind and I asked my son to have the movers place the nightstands in the hall until I could get home and rearrange a few things in my bedroom, but the movers "white glove service" ended up dropping the two nightstands in the boxes and crates in the hallway outside my bedroom. That wasn't what I had in mind and it isn't white glove.... struggle to unpack boxes and crates with my 6'2" 220lb son... sigh call store one is damaged... great reorder expect delivery in 2 weeks... and two weeks come and go, no call, no nightstand...sigh call store- "OMG it appears that the reorder was never processed because the refund was never processed"(side note- you have to refund and then reorder for a damaged item- yeah I know silly people) so in addition to having to pay additional to get rid of crates and boxes through a junk hauler...because I had no room for these massive things now I am waiting three more weeks... it arrives they deliver... sigh no pick up scheduled... they take it anyway, but once they leave I go to place the lamp on top... ooopsie it wobbles... is the foot broke is it missing a pad??? NO its just warped... and the veneer is lifting... crap... sigh... swear... call store reorder... three more weeks... almost four... YEAH!!! delivery calls to schedule does two days work?? YES... are they aware of pick up??? NO... they will have to call back... call back next day now they can't delivery for a week... sigh double triple sigh... this is pissing me off now... do you know you need a pick up scheduled as well? I purchased a bed frame from Restoration Hardware online. $2,000 and 2 weeks later, the bed arrived at my home without any of the hardware. After spending over a half hour on the phone with their "customer service" department, I was told I would have to wait a month to receive the hardware. It took multiple requests for this to be elevated to a supervisor who told me due to previous hardware requests, the timeline of receiving my missing items will not change. I am now sleeping with my mattress on the floor while I wait a month for the hardware to arrive. Thank you Restoration Hardware for your terrible service. I will never shop here again. read more

Let me start by saying that I'm an RH member and I absolutely love RH furniture, more than half of my house is furnished with their products and I've been happy with everything. This review is solely based on the terrible customer service at this location. I came in today to purchase a dining table and left very quickly because the customer service was absolutely horrendous. I walked in and was greeted by an associate whom I asked to point me in the direction of the table I came in to purchase. The color that I wanted was not available on the floor so she directed me upstairs to the second floor where they have a design center with samples of the wood. The associate working there was less then impressed to be helping me (it was completely dead in there) and told me that I could just downstairs to see the sample in the coffee table, she seemed very bothered that I was taking up her precious time. I'm sorry but isn't the the point of having half of the second floor dedicated to samples so that customers can see the samples? I didn't come in to get bossed around by associates and be treated like a complete inconvenience when I'm there to drop over $4000 on a dining room table. I was not at all surprised when I came to write this review and saw the two star rating. RH management really needs to take a look at these reviews and do something about the customer service at this location. Until then, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Please excuse my rant - but I really, really, really dislike this company with a passion. They charge frickin' $200 BUCKS to deliver *one item* locally. Their marketing goal is to charge a "flat rate delivery charge for unlimited items" which, sure, is great if you buy multiple pieces (AND pay a lot of $$$$$ on furniture) - but not all of us on this planet earn over $200K working for amazon/Microsoft/Facebook/Google/whatever, and can afford to *buy* multiple pieces (as they are quite pricey) at this store, and in my humble opinion, you can get the exact same "look" they carry for much, much less (at least 50% less I've found, if not more - seriously). I have been furnishing my apt. for almost 8 months now, and so I've done a fair amount of shopping around the Seattle area. I basically know the stores and what they carry, as well as what various prominent online retailers carry as well. Go elsewhere and save yourself some major $$ - unless RH is "your thing". This review is to express our frustration and disappointment with RH and its local Seattle delivery service. We had placed a large order for furniture,lamps,rugs,etc. and were given the assurance that the delivery of all items would be made before a Christmas party- which has now come and gone. RH and its local delivery service have no idea where many of our items are or when delivery will be made. We have communicated with RH representatives and the local delivery services 10-15 times only to be given information that is ridiculously inaccurate and inconsistent. We have been told that orders have been mistakenly cancelled; items were returned because they were broken in transit, that they simply can't locate items; items where received by the local delivery service when they weren't ...we have never seen a more disorganized shipping and delivery process. Items are shipped from many locations around the country with little coordination and complete confusion on RH's part as to the order status. We have still not received several items with assurance on many occasions that delivery would be the next day. Our experience with the sales staff has always been professional and pleasant with complete satisfaction with the items once delivered. RH needs to address this problem immediately or customers will loose all confidence as to timely delivery. Very disappointed!! read more

I'm not sure what is up with this retail emporium. From the outside it looks like Nero's opulent palace. But when you go inside the vibe is of a museum. You are free to walk around and admire the aesthetics of their wares, but you actually have a question about something or maybe even want to make a purchase? Let's see, first you walk around the gargantuan space looking for a sales associate, that could take over 10 minutes to find someone. Then you finally locate one and if you're lucky they're available to help, if not, you will wait further or you get someone who doesn't have a deep understanding of the product and goes to the website to see the product description! This has happened to me several times. There are no prices displayed in the museum either, why that would mar the aesthetic! This place should be a business school case study in how to irritate and alienate customers. I sorely miss the former down-to-earth UVillage store, I no longer shop here. read more

After shopping here at the U Village location for many years, I'd have to agree with other reviewers about the poor customer service. Perhaps it's a training issue (or a "caring" issue), but, despite seeming superficially friendly (good at greeting!), no one seems inclined to offer help without being hunted down and cornered. On the few occasions I've had a problem with something I've purchased (all lighting items, I might add), the service was frustrating and inefficient. The counter people had to call supervisors (busy elsewhere) to determine whether my item was defective or just needed, say, a replacement bulb. Recently, when my new lamp suddenly stopped working and I brought it in, it took nearly 20 minutes to find someone who could figure out how to remove and test the bulb (it was the second guy standing behind the counter, who had heard the entire conversation but hadn't offered to help.) My bulb had burned out, but since it's not readily available at the hardware store, I'd have to order it and incur outrageous shipping charges on a $6 item "because Restoration Hardware does not stock hardware," and they would not let me keep the test bulb. On two other occasions within the last two years, the item WAS defective and had to be replaced (re-shipped from the warehouse). Last lamp I ever buy from RH. read more

Like so many others on this list, I used to love Restoration Hardware. I went to the huge new store in University Village last weekend. No kidding, it was filled with rooms of huge beige furniture and gaudy chandeliers. I get having some of that, but why not balance it with a few other pieces on a slightly less massive scale? But that was not the problem, the sales staff was. They were snooty, absorbed in their MacBook computers, and when you finally flag one down, they act as if you are bothering them. I needed to arrange a return and instead of help, I was told to get on the list for the concierge. Yep, concierge. So I left and called the store Monday to sort out my return problem. The receptionist was also snide and suggested I rebuy the item I previously bought (a décor item, not a furniture item) from their store. Yep, so I'm going to Room and Board in University Village. First, while I have visited both the U Village and NW 23rd RH (Portland), most of my purchases are made online. The stores are fine, the service is so-so (kind of stuck up, just like most of the customers I observe in the stores). My experience ordering furniture (a belgian linen sleigh bed and matching bench) was great. The delivery company arrived on time, assembled the bed and they were very courteous. My other purchases have tended to arrive after a long wait, and I don't usually receive shipping confirmation emails (although sometimes I do...it's very inconsistent). My most recent online ordering experience has been a NIGHTMARE. Placed an order for 2 Parisian Gate table lamps in mid January. It's now late April and I have yet to receive both lamps--it's been a comedy of errors. First, I never got any shipping confirmation and hadn't received the lamps within 3 weeks so I call them. They tell me they were backordered, sorry, and give me an set ship date. Lamps arrive and one lamp was fine but they shipped a totally different item for the second lamp. Had to call them and they arranged to have the bad item picked up by UPS. The guy assured me he would watch for the p/u confirmation and then immediately ship the correct lamp. A few weeks go by. No lamp. I call again. Oh, yes, we just received the item you sent back and so we'll be sending the new lamp (not what I was told previously). New item arrives. It's defective. The upright part of the lamp has to be screwed into the base, but the genius in INDIA that manufactured it drilled the holes wrong. Call again. They pick up the lamp and want me to return the perfectly fine shade as well. The new lamp arrives. Guess what: NO SHADE! I'd have given up a long time ago but I have one lamp that we've been using and I want the matching lamp to go with it on either side of our bed. This company has a very serious problem with their warehouse and inventory systems. I'm surprised they can remain in business because I've read so many complaints similar to mine. The quality of their stuff varies but one thing remains constant: the high quality prices. Also the look overall is far too masculine/industrial for my taste. I do love their towels and sheets. I just know I have to wait weeks for them to arrive if I order online! I think I might switch to the PB towels because those are very similar. read more

When you enter the store, you see an outdoor patio setting with a couch, two side chairs and a fire table on a sissel rug. I called and spoke with Brad to determine the name of the sissel rug which their head designer recommended for our outdoor space. I was told that this rug is not appropriate for outdoor spaces....! I was going to order this rug for our space based on the recommendations of their head designer. Let the buyer beware. Even Brad agreed that the assumption of most customers would have been that this rug could have been used outside, but this is an interior rug. read more

Back in 2014 I bought a glass shelf at RH U village. Recently removed it from the wall to paint and upon reinstalling found the screw connection doesn't work. Today I called them to try to replace the part. Maggie answered and everything about the call was perfect! warm, solicitous, helpful, gave me a choice of her calling the parts dept. or me calling direct. She gave me all the details of my purchase that I might need. I preferred to deal directly and spoke to Iaana. Another perfect interaction!! Hard to believe I know. She asked me my name, I told her what I needed and by that time she had pulled up my information and knew exactly what I was talking about. No spelling out, no id questions, no data drilling, just help in the best possible manner. Upshot, she will get the parts to me at no charge. Though I'm mostly happy with the shelving and cabinets I ordered, I'm giving Restoration Hardware a low rating due to the horrendous delivery experience. We live on an island near Seattle, so it took extra time to get our order. Far from the "white glove" service we paid for, we got sullen, rude, and incomplete service. They began by telling me what I ordered, which was incorrect. Luckily I had my receipts in hand, with full descriptions of what I ordered. Then they asked me to supply parts! Parts were missing and the two delivery fellows ran out the door saying I could complete the assembly myself. They left dirty, black smudges on the white furniture. Neither the independent delivery service nor Restoration Hardware did anything to fix the situation. I had to purchase hardware myself and get help putting the shelves in. I asked RH to refund my hefty delivery fee and they said they would. That was five months ago and never happened. read more

I enjoyed browsing this store. A lot of their items are classy, gorgeous and high quality. I particularly loved the exquisite chandeliers, the deep sofas, comfy wing chairs...some truly beautiful things. They have an array of truly hideous things as well. A glance through their catalogue had me wondering who ever furnishes their space in the manner suggested, but to each his own...A couple of things I wasn't thrilled about: it was tough to find the fabric options for most of the furniture; it felt like I'd run into a dead end every time I got interested in a piece. Service was seriously lacking. We waited unattended at the counter for about 10 minutes and were then ignored by a couple of employees poring over their tablets and chatting about something. Did I mention we were there to return a defective item that was a replacement for another defective item? Lesson learned: RH is a great option for unusual furnishings, but get your gadgets elsewhere. read more
