He doesnt hesitate to tell you when your idea for a remodel or upgrade isnt in your best interest (ie - "Ummm...actually, that would look terrible! How about we do it 'this' way?"), and also gives great ideas on how to save money and perhaps cut corners. Something that I appreciate is the fact that Scott comes by to double check the work that his subcontractors have done, if not every day, every other day. Although he trusts them, it is clear that he refuses to put his stamp of approval on anything without seeing it with his own eyes. Id highly recommend California Rays for anyone looking for a small, medium, or large sized job - they can do it all!

Similar to the other stories on Yelp I was forced to terminate California Ray's for cause and complete the project myself using directly hired subcontractors. Some of the things California Ray's and their Subcontractors did; 1) Walls out of plumb as much at 1-2" across 20' 2) Structural elements not completed causing settlement of walls and cracking of drywall 3) Paid to replumb the entire house and the plumbing system knocks and rattles in the walls and can be heard throughout the entire home. 4) The list goes on and on.. DO NOT HIRE CALIFORNIA RAYS or Scott Ray or anyone else associated and does business with this individual. Happy to share more about my story if you are interested. EDITED REVIEW POST OWNER RESPONSE: These are exactly the accusations and insinuations that this owner lobbed throughout the build process. This individual does not understand customer service. This contractor did not "Complete" the project, he was removed due to cause due to incompetency. Finally, this company was not only paid in full, but was overpaid since my wife and I were forced to pre pay for change Orders and scope. One thing is right about this owner's post, after cutting our losses, the only reason for this review is due to his out of the blue inflammatory phone call nearly 1.5 years later. I decided to go with Mike not because he had a reasonable quote (which he did) but because he was so incredibly detail minded. I was very specific on what I wanted but I must admit I was incredibly busy with work travel so was out of pocket most of those few weeks the work was to be done. One example of Mike's attention to detail was on the tile work trim. The tiler had used the same grout as the white main tiles for the trim but as he got to know my style he didn't think I would be happy with the results so he called me immediately and sent me photos. I confirmed right away I didn't like it and it was re-done to my liking. How awesome is that?? Needless to say I got my dream bath and in fact I am fairly certain it was the selling factor when we decided to move. Check out my photo I think you'd agree it is fabulous work. Needless to say I asked Mike to remodel my new fixer upper. I am sure it was no easy task since he had to do this in 3 phases because we needed to move in just 4 weeks after construction started so he had to block out a portion of the home for us. He kept the same attention to detail as he did with the bath. I was always comfortable with his and his team's work as I got continuous progress reports and pictures. On the rare occasion there was a miscommunication it was addressed immediately. Mike was very good in helping us make decisions as we had to move quickly on just about everything and we did not have an architect/designer holding our hands all along the way (I had limited architect services which is the only thing I would do differently in the future). After a successful 3 phase rebuild of our home, I had Mike come back yet again to build a beautiful patio overhang for our backyard. It has made our backyard THE destination for our family this past summer and we couldn't be happier with the work! I trust Mike fully and would recommend him to anyone that is looking to remodel their home. He takes great pride in his work and treats his customers with outstanding service.

Each day they came, they were prompt, they were efficient, and they cleaned up every time at the end of the day. Alfredo especially made sure of the thorough clean up when the job was complete by wiping down counters and cleaning up any debris left on the floors. I am very impressed and told Rafael I would refer them to friends and family in a heartbeat. I was the one that even offered to write a Yelp review within minutes after they were finishing up. It is very hard to find someone you can trust, understands your vision, stays within budget and is professional. Rafael provided all of that! Jose and the JDM team were an absolute godsend. I really don't know what we would have done without…read morethem. We interviewed 6 other contractors before deciding to work with Jose and he blew them all away. He was always professional to work with, detail oriented, and always went above and beyond if we had a question or needed something explained. He would give his opinion whenever I asked because sometimes I had no idea how to set the tile or what would look best. He has a great eye for these things. He even kept detailed notes so when I couldn't remember what we discussed he would let me know exactly what we agreed on. He ALWAYS had creative solutions for difficult problems like when we couldn't figure out how to fit cabinetry into a space or when we couldn't get the stackable washer and dryer to fit in the closet in the hall or when we had an odd plumbing issue. Jose and his team are very talented and it felt like they could conquer any problem (and we had a lot pop up with our house which when we bought it was in need of a lot of TLC). The work was impeccably done from the tile to the plumbing to the flooring to the electrical. We had it all and were happy every step of the way. Jose even took care of the permitting which was a huge relief. Our permitting process went off without a hitch and the inspectors were very happy with JDM's work. I was also very happy with the fair treatment I received. So many contractors tried to price gauge us and a couple were even a little condescending. Just absolutely absurd estimates. Jose's pricing was always very fair and he doesn't nickel and dime you for every little extra thing that pops up. It really builds a relationship of trust. When the guys left at the end of our Reno I was actually quite sad. They had become family! We will definitely use JDM in the future for other projects and will refer them to friends! In 2020, they remodeled one of our bathrooms and this year, took on our Master Bathroom, redid lighting in our living room, all bedrooms, and painted the inside of our entire home! It was definitely an undertaking and they did such detailed work and were so great to customize everything to meet our needs. We were very pleased with the end results! We hope to use them again for our future projects!
