Our 43 year old furnace died and needed to be replaced. We decided to take the opportunity to add air conditioning as well. I received two recommendations for small companies from Ferguson and two for large companies from friends. I received bids from all four. The two large companies sent a salesperson, the small companies were represented by the owners. Both of the large companies quoted between $5k-$10k more than the small companies, one for the exact same equipment. I was immediately impressed by Rudy from RG. He was incredibly knowledgeable and did not pressure me into getting a better system like the others had. He asked how often we would be using our heating and air and recommended an 80% efficient furnace and 14-16 SEER air conditioner. Although RG was not the least expensive bid, I chose RG because of his professionalism and honesty. Rudy and Arturo came to install within a week of me signing the bid. They did a fantastic job, and asked me if I had any questions throughout the process. Fortunately my experience with Rudy and RG Heating and Cooling was a lot better. Rudy was easy to get a hold of and had great communication. Thanks to Yelpers, I came across RG Heating and Cooling, after a not so pleasant experience with another Heating and Cooling Company (They were pushing for me to get a new system, even though they did little troubleshooting to find the problem in my system). My cooling system stopped working recently. Sad to say, my system runs on R-22, which will be obsolete within the next few years. Because of this, some companies eagerly charge in excess of $150 per pound of R-22, and that does not include labor! Don't be fooled by the sensationalistic rhetoric as to why R-22 is so expensive. It's just another ploy for some Heating and Cooling companies to make more money. For the next few years (to 2020), R-22 should still be found at a reasonable price. Just ask various Heating a cooling places in your area until you find one with reasonable prices. I talked to 5 of them before talking to HG. Prices ranged from $65 to $150 per pound of R-22. That's a big spread! HG was on the low end, and had great Yelp reviews. With those two things combined, I decided to give them a try. I scheduled for Rudy to look at my system. He was a true professional. He was timely, respectful, methodical, and explained what he was doing. In my case, I had a small leak in the system, which was hard to find. He methodically isolated where the leak came from, and repaired it. His price was extremely reasonable. He did not try to upsell. He did not try to convince me to get a new system. He did not try to perform unnecessary procedures to add to the overall cost. He did explain the pros and cons of getting a new system, and different options if I did decide to go with a new system. I am very happy with his service. I will recommend him to all of my friends and family in the area. Something worth noting Yelpers: During my search for a good Heating and Cooling company, and after speaking to some technicians, I found out that many companies give their technicians a commission on their service rendered and/or equipment sales. This means, that the more a technician sells, or the more he/she charges the customer, the more he/she gets to pocket! This is a loosing proposition for the consumer! Our house had AC problems and I called Rudy on a Saturday before the 4th of July holiday. He told me that he would do hs best to try to get to me, but it would likely be on Monday due to his appointment schedule. Rudy completed his appointments and called me back that Saturday and came directly to the house. He is the only AC shop that was responsive to my calls. He diagnosed the issue, fixed the problem and also provided advice on other preventative measures to curtail any possible future issues. Rudy, of RG Heating and Cooling, is fantastic, and I highly recommend him. With the hot summers we've had the last few years, I finally broke down and decided to get air conditioning in my house. I expected finding someone to do it to be an easy process, but I was wrong. It seems every contractor has a different opinion and significantly different prices. In the end, I probably got about 10 bids and had to become a bit of an expert on air conditioning. Rudy was the last contractor I met with, and I knew pretty quickly that he was the one for me. He is very knowledgeable and his price was lower than almost all the others. And, by the way, his price was about half of the Costco "deal", which ended up being the highest of all the bids I received. I am very picky about what I want done and often also how I want it done. I can be difficult, but Rudy was always very patient with me. He mostly did what I wanted, except when he explained how doing things his way would be better. My project involved getting everything. We got a new furnace (relocated to a different location), relocated return air grille and duct, up-sized registers in all existing locations, added registers where there were none, new AC compressor, and all new insulated ducts. The whole project took a full day longer than Rudy anticipated, but he didn't charge me a penny more than his original quote. We have had our new system for over three months now and I am completely happy with everything. Rudy is now my go to guy when it comes to HVAC. We were in the market for a new air conditioner and gas furnace. We had used RG Heating and Cooling in the past for repairs, so they were our first contact. Plus, we knew they had done work for other friends in the neighborhood. I know very little about HVAC, so I trust Rudolfo at RG Heating and Cooling. We went with new Trane product for both the air con and furnace. Based on the size of our house, Rudolfo recommended the lower end models because the extra cost might not be justified in our mild San Diego climate, but I ended up slightly upgrading the furnace mainly for efficiency and noise reasons. I also had the ducting replaced in my attic. I'll make this review simple: Rudolfo provided what I think was a fair price for quality products. He started and finished the job in the timeframes he promised. He explained to me what he did. And, when he was finished, his invoice matched his quote exactly. I am very pleased with how everything turned out, Rudolfo is a true professional, and a darn nice guy. I really see no reason why I'd ever go with another HVAC company as long as RG Heating and Cooling is in existence. read more
