Very overpriced. I didn't realize until I read all the reviews here today. I'm a college student so I barely has any knowledge of fabrics nor the prices of them. One day I walked in, I wanted to buy some fabric to use as my photograph's background (small pieces as their minimum quantity you can buy, I forgot the number sorry), I ended up paying $400. Yeah you see it correctly, $400!!!!! Yeah the fabrics were silk, I knew they were supposed to be more expensive than normal ones, but I had no idea how much they were supposed to be exactly. I thought they would be around $150, but when I was paying for them, it ended up being $400 which I was little confused but paid anyway. As other said, no tags nor prices were listed. Btw it's so true none of them spoke English, it took pretty long time to let them find a person who sort of speaks English to help me. I will never go back again. Thanks. read more

Several years ago, I went to the store to find fabric for Boat cushions and received immediate assistance and excellent fabric quality. Once again, while asking for someone in Miami to provide me with a high quality of service so that i can have my gown made for my niece's wedding, I was given this name "Rex Fabrics". I read the reviews and wondered if the service would be different if it was for fashion instead of decorative, since I had a positive experience. Nonetheless, I contacted the store through the website and I received an answer within hours. Eric Rivero answered my questions and our communication was timely and professional, as he did everything possible to assist me. Every time he asked for some information and he advised that he would contact me, he did. I honestly was amazed with the excellent /professional service he provided.Unfortunately, the amount I had budgeted and the dress I had chosen would not be matched, therefore I had to pursue another option. The only negative for me is that the price Eric quoted me was very high. Needless to say, I did advise Eric to review the prices and perhaps try to see if they could be lowered as a whole. I believe they are very expensive. I had found the dress for a lower price, but I wanted to make some changes if it would be created for me and unfortunately, it was not the case. What a wonderful experience from the minute I walked in the front door. I was greeted by Maria Contreras who is extremely knowledgable and the many fabrics and selections in the store. She took the time to listen to my needs and my taste in fabrics, then she went to work providing me with the perfect selection to choose from. She was delightful to work with and I didn't feel any preasured sales tactics to buy. The store was clean and bright and stocked with so many fine quality materials. Maria helped me from my initial order to picking up my garments and making sure I was completely satisfied with my purchase. I'm sure the entire sales team does an outstanding job as well, but I'll continue to ask for Maria to help me next time I visit the store. This place is super weird! When you get there, an old guy dressed as if he were a New York doorman comes running to tell you how to park. Why in the world he's needed is beyond comprehension, there is one row of parking spaces and rarely have I seen any cars parked there. It's 95° and 100% humidity in Miami and this poor guy is dressed in full uniform with cap and everything as if it were 50°. Am I supposed to tip him??? I have no idea but he makes me feel very uncomfortable because it is so out of place. So, you walk in and there are several people standing around so you would think they would be anxious to take care of a customer but no...they all stare at you as if you're interrupting their conversation. You're not allowed to just walk around and explore, they assign someone to be with you. Good luck if you don't speak Spanish because none of them speak English. Then, when they realize you're not a designer or high end seamstress, but just someone who needs a fabric for a simple dress or some basic supplies, the "service" gets even worse! To top it all off, the prices are ridiculous. Downtown Miami, which is only 15 minutes away, has a ton of little fabric stores with better prices and service...and no weird doorman chasing you around the parking lot. Have no idea how this place stays in business. read more

Worst place to buy fabric in South Florida. The silk prints are beautiful but most of them are $150 a yard. The designer prints are not even authentic, they are copy's of the original. None of the fabrics are marked, you have to ask a sales person the prices who will then follow you around wherever you go in the store at about 3 feet behind. I have had sales people talk rudely about me in Spanish thinking that I didn't understand them. I needed to buy silk organza and Rex was the only place open on Sunday. I found the organza that I had previously purchased for $18.99 a yard. The sales lady told me it was $60 a Yard! Thankfully I had saved my old receipt and showed it to her. I finally had to get the manager to sort the situation out and was very apologetic. On a final note the plastic boning at Rex fabrics is $3.99 a yard!! You can get it for .30 a yard downtown at La Casa De Las Viejas. read more

In response to your ignorant comment, I placed a dispute with the card before I accepted the store credit and the credit was taken in protest. This credit will never be used and I still remain in limbo waiting for the owner to call me or email me back which he has not after numerous attempts. This is DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES! Amparo advised the boas could be RETURNED and now that has become a lie since the money is still not rightfully returned to me. Furthermore, the dispute continues in question through the credit card since your return policy clearly states only "cut fabric" is final sale. read more

Being a business owner myself, I don't haggle prices and I don't mind paying a premium for quality products and services. Up until today, I used Rex Fabrics to create custom packaging for client gifts. I had a salesperson who was friendly and cared about my needs and would see the project all the way through. I worked with her several times and it got to the point where she knew exactly what I needed from the moment I walked through the door. The projects weren't cheap but, the quality was good and the turnaround was fast (2 days, usually). Unfortunately, I walked into the store on my usual salesperson's day off and I doubt I'll ever be going back. I explained the project to another salesperson and she came up with prices for fabric and labor, seemingly, off the top of her head. A manager came to "help" with the transaction and threw some other numbers out. This would be fine except they were charging me almost double what I usually pay. They also said it would take three times as long to create without even checking with their seamstress first. I explained that I had done this project several times at this store already and what I paid. They just kept shrugging it off and making new offers. No calculators were ever pulled out, no price tags or rate cards were ever displayed. Clearly, the numbers they were coming up with were totally arbitrary. I know they keep records of their projects because we had used them in the past to replicate my packaging the first couple of times they made it. These two women did not care to even look for them. They made me feel like I was either crazy or trying to "get away with something". I found their actions to be insulting and can't believe they would treat a returning customer that way. read more

And I just want to know why this place did not have nude mesh and the lady helping me said they can't order it. There I was; just months before my wedding with a design for my wedding gown but no fabric in sight. I knew exactly what I wanted but couldn't find it anywhere... Panic was setting in! I am so grateful that I decided to email Rex Fabrics, as I'd seen the beautiful fabrics on their website and wanted to know if they had anything that matched what I was looking for. Marilyn was amazing from the beginning; sending me pictures of what they had in stock but also informing me that they did custom beading as well. I'd looked into custom beading but had been told that I had left it too late for this to be an option. I was overjoyed when I was told that Rex could get it done in 8 weeks... enough time for my gown to be made! I worked closely with Marilyn and my dressmaker to create the embellished fabric of my dreams. Considering that I live in Oregon, this whole process was amazingly smooth, she was so easy to communicate with, and a couple of weeks ago I received my amazing fabric and could not be happier! Yes, it's definitely pricey, but you get what you pay for, and they were helpful in suggesting how to change the design if I wanted to reduce the price. For someone who's looking for high quality unique fabric, I would definitely recommend working with Marilyn at Rex Fabrics :) read more

We vacation in Miami and I went to Rex Fabrics in 2012. I hate to make a quick judgment and decided to give them another chance this summer. I agree that they have some amazing fabrics that you probably won't find anywhere else. The problem is I never actually got to look at them. I walked in the door and was asked, "what do you want?" I knew I needed some lace for my daughter's wedding dress, but also wanted to look at the cottons and silks. I said I would llike to browse, but evidently that isn't allowed. I had no idea what they have, the store is huge and well stocked. I don't know how I could have told the sales associate exactly what I wanted without browsing a little. It could have been a wonderful treat to walk around and see what they had, but that is definitely frowned upon. I had the same experience 2 summers in a row. I took one of my grown daughters with me on one of these trips and she said the whole experience was very intimidating and she hated it. read more

I recently got a grey Scabal wool length for my wedding suit, matching mother of pearl buttons, and coordinating lining. It has been quite and awesome experience. I got here highly recommended by my attorney, and his brother, but i was still a bit confused. Once I got inside the store, the massive, and impressive amount of fabrics got me even more confused. I almost left to get me a ready made suit, but honestly, I wanted a bespoke suit made, a suit specially tailored for me, and my special wedding day. I was introduced to a vendor by the register/reception lady. His name is Jose Pardal who showed me all the specs on be different fabrics and my occasion. After learning the complexity of the process and the fabric choosing process, I immediately began feeling more relaxed, interested, and enthusiastic. I must say Jose was really amazing. Once I sort of convince my self with the color, based on Jose's guidance for my complexion and occasion, I decided on my slate gray Scabal brand piece of fabric. Gentlemen, the feel of the cloth is excellent for the weather of my wedding day "beach wedding". Then the fun really began, the General Manager was called to finalize, and supervise all measurements and to make sure the process was well understood, and my satisfaction met. Thanks Mr. Josniel, you really made me feel special. I cannot wait for my final fitting. He advised me to bring the shoes I am wearing that day to make sure my pants length is perfect. This is a beautiful store full of gorgeous fabrics - probably the best selection in Miami. That said, I won't be shopping there. Expect to be watched and followed from the moment you enter the store; I felt uncomfortably under suspicion the entire time I walked around. Prices are sky-high, and worse yet, not marked, so you have to ask staff for prices on every single fabric you are interested in. These are probably the most beautiful fabrics available in Miami, but silks are about $150/yard; even the cheaper fabrics are $20 plus/yard. You can buy these fabrics elsewhere cheaper - Ultra Fabrics or online at any number of sites. They also sell patterns at their face price (e.g., $20 plus for a Vogue pattern). I recommend you buy patterns at JoAnn's when they go on sale, or even buy them online from Vogue Patterns directly - I never pay full price for a pattern after discovering these sources. Good selection of threads, buttons, and other notions, also never on sale. Gorgeous selection of trims for evening gowns. If you are completely insensitive to price, you will probably love Rex Fabrics. For everyone else, it just doesn't make sense to shop here - you can do better on price elsewhere and skip the staff's attitude. read more

I would give this business 5 stars if it wasn't for the hefty prices. Rossi Hernandez was very helpful and attentive. I showed her a pic of the dress I was looking to have made and she took me straight to the material needed and the different color selections. The store has so many selections to choose from so that is definitely not an issue. For an idea on prices, I paid $315 for 7 yards of fabric, $100 for 5 yards of underlining and $5 for a zipper. Total was $420 (at a discounted price) for a prom dress. My daughter is 5'8 and weighs approximately 140 lbs (size 5-6) and the dress is long with a mermaid style. As far as customer service, Rossi was great and she understood our concerns. I would recommend this place if you're willing to pay the high prices. read more

I don't ever write reviews however I was compelled to take the time to write this one due to the excellence in service provide by Eneida. I was at Rex Fabrics simply looking for buttons. I was not there to buy expensive silk or buy a wedding dress or have a tailored suit made, I was there to simply buy four button update the look of one of my favorite jackets. Eneida approaches me and asked what I needed. When I explained she warmly said you come to the right place then to me to a wall that had the most amazing selection of buttons that I have ever seen. She asked me questions about the textile, the color, the look that I wanted to achieve etc. She kelp me select the most gorgeous buttons that are the perfect match. In addition they were not expensive. For less than $15 dollars I was able to walk out of there with pear and gold buttons that will look like if in spent a fortune on my jacket. In summary Eneida made the entire very simple experience of just buying four buttons into an very warm and embracing visit. It was like going to my grandmothers house and asking her advice. I highly recommend you seek out Eneida when you visit Rex Fabrics. She is old school PERFECT!!!! read more

Ended up here this saturday as I had a dress that needed some fixing and it had been suggested as the place to get ribbons. There is ample parking up front and the have an older gentleman opening the door. I walked in and the intense smell was not so welcomed. Some other reviews mention it too... Its strong! As soon as i walked int, two of the employees asked me what i needed. Explained i needed a purple ribbon to match with the dress i had in my hands. Got to say the lighting in this place is horrible. They found me a ribbon that when putt against the dressed seemed to match. (After i left and saw it in the sun light they were so far apart i had to go back and get silver as the originally bought didn't match). 2 things that i hated: the ribbons have prices next to them and yet I was charged more than what it said & the other thing was that i asked for an estimate on how much it would be to take the zipper out and put the ribbons. Lets just say it was more than the dress and its 10times what I'm paying for at another place. Yes, you read right, 10 times! They have beautiful fabrics but you wont see me spending my pretty penny here. read more

I should have listened to the previous reviews and not gone to this store. Service is terribly poor here. Staff is condescending for no reason. The best part of shopping here is the doorman/greeter. Once your in; it's hotel California. You just want to get out. Had a list of specific fabrics to purchase which I shared with the sales assistant would jumped all over me as soon as I walked in. She clearly didn't have any of the things on my list but I decided to walk around to see if anything else tickled my fancy. She followed me through the store; hovering over me while I looked. Never giving me a second to breath. (Not smart. You may want to give customers the chance to browse your selection) When I finally saw a fabric I liked but put it down when I saw the price. She asked why I wasn't taking it, so I told her I was looking to spend a less that $142/yard, she then offered to sell it to me for $80/ yard. REALLY? If she can afford to slash the price by almost 50%, you've essentially just told me you have a 50+ percent markup on your fabrics. Wasn't looking to bargain, just get a few cuts to make clothes. I was going to give just one star but I'll give it two because I purchased a zipper here for a cocktail dress and it was absolutely perfect. When I got here, the doorman rushed to the door to open it for me, it was kinda awkward he wasn't standing where he should be. Then I walk in and nobody greets me, they're all just kinda chit chatting and I say hello to the first person I see and in Spanish she says "not now I'm busy ask them" and then I look to the other employees and they start arguing because they didn't think I was bilingual and none of them knew English. So they kept saying "oh no I can't take care of her she's American" and I said "I can speak Spanish just help Me" but they were arguing so loudly they couldn't hear me say that. Amparo is extremely helpful and understands my aesthetic perfectly. There is every kind of fabric imaginable for the serious couturier or designer. Yes, there are some very high priced fabrics - one of the beaded fabrics I purchased yesterday was $700/yard. It's hand-beaded in Italy - what would you expect to pay for this? I do have to agree that the smell is really strong and it stays with the fabric - I do have to wash all of my fabrics. This is something I do no matter where I order from - you may be surprised to learn that you can wash silks - I use the Laundress products in a lingerie bag - I don't work for them or get compensated for sharing this info, just a tip...I'm just happy that I can shop locally and not have to travel to NY to find specialty fabrics so I'll deal with the smell. read more

I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who held the door open and from there the experience just got better. They have every kind of fabric you can imagine here and the staff is very knowledgeable. Ordered 6 sets of EXPENSIVE CUSTOM drapery. We provided specific measurements, along with drawings, of the openings and existing rods. All drapes were made too narrow to fit the rods and barely covered the window openings when stretched tight (industry standard is for drapes to be 1.5 times the window width to hang properly). When we took the drapes back, Rex Fabrics refused to return them, or even to fix them unless we paid more money to correct their mistake. We are now forced to take up the matter with our credit card company. Very Bad Service. read more
