I was left with no service provider. I called a couple of companies and they either couldn't provide service or the information given was really no help. I called Independent Energy and Sean-Daniel listened to the issue I was facing and provided excellent care. There were a lot of hoops to clear but Sean-Daniel guided me through the whole thing. Then to top it off just as the Tesla battery was finally ready for replacement, my inverter stopped working. Through our communication, I simply asked if that was also something they could help me with also. I simply had to provide some information and they took care of the rest. I was kind of left on my own with the previous company, but Sean-Daniel and Independent Energy really guided me through the replacement process and took care of me even though they were not the original installers. If you ever get into a situation similar to mine or looking to get any kind of solar service, I highly recommend Independent Energy of Hawaii1

As luck would have it, my previous updated review of Ecosolar would not be my last…read more After converting my system from running off of Sunpower/Enphase's microinverters to Tesla's inverter from my new Powerwall Plus, I had some worry about what might happen with a single point of failure. Midway through summer, I found that out when my entire system went down when it failed. I reached out to Chris from Ecosolar right away and let him know that I was having a problem and he started troubleshooting immediately. After some investigation it was determined that the inverter had to be replaced and after waiting for Tesla to ship out the part, it was replaced in a timely manner. I was back up and running again, until December when my system started acting up again, this time seemingly having a problem with one of the batteries. I contacted Chris again and let him know that I was having a problem again, and although communication was rough with the end of the year approaching and federal tax credits expiring, I had a service appointment scheduled for the first week of January. On their site visit, it was determined that my new Powerwall Plus itself had gone bad. They were able to start the RMA process with Tesla and told me it would be replaced, possibly with a new Powerwall 3, because the Powerwall 2 was end-of-life and not in production anymore. That meant they would also have to replace my original Powerwall 2 as well with a new Powerwall 3 expansion pack. They hoped optimistically that I wouldn't have to wait too long for the replacement. Fast forward to April and it did take longer than expected for Tesla to send them the replacements but the good news was that Tesla did indeed replace both of my Powerwall 2 units with a new Powerwall 3 and expansion. This did require much more work on the part of Ecosolar to retrofit than just unplugging the old setup and swapping in the new one, for my particular case, and I appreciate the extra lengths they had to go through versus just having to swap out the old if Tesla had just sent a Powerwall Plus replacement instead. I had been down for a few months but the upside is that I have a brand new set of batteries now in 2026. I would say my solar journey has been rougher than I expected it to be. Parts have failed. Parts have been replaced under warranty. Yes, I've experienced periods of time where my PV system has been offline due to failures, and had to deal with big HECO bills until those failures were resolved. I've had two Powerwalls replaced under warranty in the last 7 years (technically 3 since they swapped my still working Powerwall 2 with a new expansion pack), and an inverter. I had problems with weird glitches with power that kept tripping the Powerwall into thinking that I was experiencing a power outage, that Ecosolar's technician helped to diagnose and find out was actually a problem with HECO's underground service feed into my home (which was another years long adventure with HECO altogether). Sunpower's PV control system got booted offline and needed to be reset remotely. Each time I've had a problem I've contacted Ecosolar and each time they've addressed it to the best of their ability. Yes sometimes it takes time to get things resolved, and it can be hard to be patient. Tesla seems to take awhile to get things sent here but they have always come through thus far too. My additional cost for all of their warranty work and service over all this time has been ZERO. Every single problem I've ever had has been addressed. It's great if you can invest in something like this and never have a problem, but I understand that things happen when you're dealing with new technology, and it sucks but sh*t happens. But when you do invest in something as expensive as solar, it's good to know that I've invested with a company that takes care of it's customers.

We had a great experience working with Julian and the Solartech team here on Oahu. From the start…read moreJulian didn't come across as a typical sales rep at all -- he felt more like a knowledgeable industry expert who offered thoughtful, objective opinions about different technologies and brands. Before meeting him, I spoke with two other solar companies. One rep came on extremely strong and the meeting felt very sales-driven and impersonal, which made it hard to trust the information being presented. The other rep seemed to still be in training and had to run nearly every question through a senior colleague. Working with Julian was a relief. He's clearly experienced and communicates in a smart, casual, and very approachable way. We also had a great experience with Jelly and Brandi from the Solartech administrative team--they were easy to work with and helped keep everything moving smoothly. Solartech's digital quote platform made comparing options and selecting our plan simple and easy to understand. We ultimately decided against Tesla batteries after learning about potential overheating issues, which can be a concern in a place as hot as Hawaii. We went with Enphase we're happy with our choice. The installation team was excellent as well. Nainoa, the lead electrician on our project, is a total pro--easy to talk to, great at problem-solving, and he helped us quickly figure out a battery placement challenge. He completed the electrical work in just a few hours. During the panel installation, the crew accidentally drilled through part of our roof which caused a small leak, but they responded immediately and repaired it right away. Everything was patched up and looks good as new. We really appreciated how quickly they addressed the situation. Post-purchase support has been just as strong. I had some questions about how our system was pulling power from the grid, and Julian took the time to explain everything. It turned out to be more of a settings preference than an issue. He followed up with helpful explainer videos and even called a week later to make sure everything made sense. Overall, we're very happy with the experience and appreciate the professionalism, transparency, and support from the whole Solartech team.

From the initial quoting process through installation, I was thoroughly impressed with their team! I got quotes from three different, highly-rated vendors... Solar Tech was not only significantly lower, they were the best value. Cisco had a great technical understanding and was a phenomenal communicator, working hard to ensure they were providing a system that best fit our needs. They provided multiple viable solutions for financing the project and did a great job working through permitting in a timely manner. Their install team, Nainoa, Nakoa, Asa, Wes, Kevin and Sean absolutely crushed it on the install. They were professional, knowledgeable and did not mess around... installing a 22 panel system with 2 Tesla Batteries in under 6 hours. I would highly recommend their services for anyone considering solar on your home.

This is one of the best companies that I am sadly going to remove from my usual go-to list. I've…read moreused them for many jobs and meant to write praise for them, but it took some frustrating experiences to get me to post this one. Let me start with the praise that is well-deserved: 1) Solar panels and battery storage. My parents used them first, and Alternate Energy briefly monitored their solar panel production to find that one panel was not producing as well as the others - something my parents wouldn't have noticed. Fixed. Leeland was an amazing point of contact for us when we then added solar and batteries to our home. He sized it based on our current usage and didn't fuss when we asked to go bigger, knowing our usage would increase. During the pandemic we contacted Leeland again to ask about maxing out solar panels on our roof and adding another battery to our home - again, all done quickly, and done well. 2) Electric vehicle charger installation. We had one EVSE installed during the solar panel job, done for a very fair price (even by mainland standards). We later asked to have a second EV charger installed. This one had an issue in that it didn't show up in our Tesla's energy tracking. Trevor was amazing for contact and coordination (for this and other projects) - he noted that the technicians who had done the job were newer, and he got it working quickly. He also noted that they had installed the wrong kind of electrical outlet, as they had used an indoor outlet (although with a cover). He swapped it out for an outdoor outlet and fixed some minor damage that had occurred during the installation, all at no extra charge. I appreciated his thoroughness! 3) Solar water heater maintenance. Simple and fine. 4) Home ethernet wiring. This one isn't listed as a service that they do, but their electricians took the job and did an absolutely amazing job of adding ethernet to my rooms based exactly on what I asked for, and to the outdoors for security cameras. They mounted the cameras (I handled the angling) and even tried to fix a cover for one of my air conditioners that keeps sliding down. The cost of this work was significantly less than a "low voltage" installer had quoted. 5) Air conditioning repair. One of my AC units began to struggle, and the technician identified that the condenser unit would need to be replaced. We had some scheduling delays for this one, and I have to give a shout-out to Ginger on the phones and by email, who was empathetic, responsive, and incredibly helpful. After the job was done I noticed a water leak; I tried to trouble-shoot it on my own and eventually determined that the water was coming from behind the unit. The technicians came out, identified that they hadn't fully secured the insulation, and even tried to scrub away some of the water stains on my wall. If you're keeping track, that's a lot of jobs, and while two of them weren't all 100% perfect, the company ultimately identified the issues and made them right. So why the negative? It has to do with the billing. 1) For the ethernet job, we had discussed the quote and then noted in advance that if the job took longer than expected there could be a cost increase. A complication did occur, causing delay. I had received one bill at the start to pay a portion of the job before it started (which is standard), and then the second bill at the job completion seemed to include the added time. However, I was later told that I still had to pay the rest of the first bill. That would mean that the cost overrun was over 50% of what was quoted. It took multiple calls over multiple weeks to get this one resolved. The company ultimately cleared it and said that everything was paid, but that was a lot of time and stress. 2) The air conditioning repair job in which they had to return to fix the insulation and admitted to it being their error? I agreed to pay a service fee, and was given a positive response when I asked if the fee could either be reduced or waived if it was found to be related to the original job. The technicians usually leave a receipt of the work done before the final bill is sent to us, but we didn't get that, nor did we get a final bill to pay. We assumed that they took responsibility for their work and left it at that. 7 months later I received notice that "internal oversight" had occurred and I owed the full $575. I called in, was offered $150 off, and admitted I was unhappy; I said it might be reasonable to pay the time for the technicians, but they admitted it was their error. So the bill was reduced to $250 for the technicians' time, they confirmed I'd get a new bill, and then promptly terminated the call, without so much as a season's greetings or an apology. I won't be so dramatic as to say I'll never use them again, but I've gone from seeing what else I can possibly use them for to making them my last call. Save all invoices and get confirmation of payment completion in writing.
