They have nice things, but they discriminate very much on consignment items. I have seen items that could go to charity with threads loose, buttons off, and faded looking yet the AA items are nitpicked and many times not taken Told me they were not taking dressy suits or formal wear but then I saw it for sale in there. Price less on AA items than the others. They did have some nice new AA workers but haven't seen them in my last visits. Most of the workers appear nice. read more

This was my very first visit to Sugar Plum Consignment and I expected a completely different experience than what I received. Shame on me for expecting better. I wasn't greeted by one salesperson, not even one of my own skin tone. It was even more hurtful when I saw other people entering the store and received a "warm welcome with a smile". I buy clothes constantly. The downfall, is sometimes there is no room in my closet, and too much room in my pocketbook. :) I used to use Ebay to sell my items, until I had a bad experience with a couple of people, and decided it wasn't worth the headache. I didn't want to deal with that anymore. I research several different places online, and decided on Sugar Plum. Their consignment pricing is fair, I have lived in many different states, and found that the 40% that you get is pretty standard. I have never found it higher, and at times, much lower. I went to the store, and they took about half of what I had, they said to come back after April to bring them back, because they were more "summer." As I waited for them to go through my items, I browsed the store and found that they don't have a lot of plus size clothing, which actually works for me, because I intend to keep it stocked with my consignments. heehee They took five items on 3/4/18, and all but one top has sold. I called the store and asked about their payment policy; do I have to wait a certain amount of time? Will you mail me a check? Donna who answered the phone was extremely nice, and said that mailing it wasn't a problem, and it was my money, I could get it any time. I definitely plan to go back and bring more clothing and shoes to the store. It is such a relief to not have to worry whether a person on Ebay is going to be crazy or not!!! read more

I've been walking by this store for months (I work out next door), but it took winning a gift certificate to finally get me in the door. And wow! I have been struggling to find shoes that fit, and I found a gorgeous pair of suede Prada cowboy-style boots for $62.50 (half off the original price), as well as some slingbacks that are perfect for work (just $4). On my last visit, I snagged a couple of super cute knit dresses in the $14-20 range. The biggest find so far was my boyfriend's -- a beautiful shearling coat with fur trim, consigned all the way from NYC. The owner was extremely helpful, offering to call the consignor to negotiate the price, something I thought was really above and beyond. I've gotten a ton of compliments on the coat and just love it! I also brought a couple of items here to consign, including my old Coach purse and a small fur piece. I was quickly directed to the appropriate area of the store, given the paperwork to fill out, and asked to hang my items and browse while they were inspected. The owner appeared, announced that they were accepting my items, and gave me a receipt that also listed the prices and my consignment number with instructions on how to check their status online. I think they sold within a month -- when I was in the store last weeked, I asked for my balance and was promptly given a check for the amount I was due. Overall, I am very impressed with Sugar Plum, for both shopping and consigning. They have quality merchandise at prices lower than department stores, and made it easy to sell my unwanted items. Wow, Ya'll! I don't often update reviews but Sugar Plum Consignments has improved drastically since my last review. I visited yesterday and I was floored! First of all, the store has expanded to the space next door. They really needed the space. If you read my last review, my major complaint was that the racks were crowded. Well that is no longer an issue. Also, they have really stepped up there game as far as the quality of the consignments. They have a much larger selection including a decent amount of high-lever designer items. A much better selection of shoes too! The prices are great. I scored a real leather jacket for eight bucks and a pair of Frye sandals for just 28! Kudos to management for turning the store around. I am now a fan and I will be back soon. read more

I gave this place 4 stars for a few reasons! It's seems as if this place only take things that a partially new, worn maybe one or twice. I was considering taking a few items here to see if I could get money for my designer pieces but the prices are based off a 40/60! Maybe in the future I could bring a few items here instead of giving them away for free. One of the ladies here asked me was I interested in anything but I can't wrap my mind around purchasing things that can't be cleaned or sanitized to the fullest such as shoes! I found me a fantastic new consignment store. Really good variety of higher end clothes, good variety of jewelry and great shoe selections! I often find clothes that still have the price tags on them so I really feel like I'm getting a deal on new clothes. Name brand purses can be found here too (in the counter top case). Not a fan of the location as the parking can be limited. The store space seems a little tight and the dressing rooms are always full when I go in, which is usually on the weekends. read more

I have found some interesting things here. Some of their items are priced a little high though given their slightly older style. For clothing, it's mostly mid-range popular designers like Michael Kors or of a similar type, and most of it in the casual to dressy casual category. I bought a very pretty Michael Kors crochet peasant circle skirt once. The shoe and belt selection was pretty nice the last time I was in; I remember seeing some reasonably priced vintage 2000s Prada sandals and a nearly new pair of Stuart Weitzman satin heels for 150 which was a good deal. I have grabbed a few cute pieces like a vintage windbreaker and a vintage western style skirt from their clearance rack which starts at around 5-10$. I like the decor of colorfully painted walls and cute jewelry displays. Anyhow, it's worth checking out and I'll definitely stop back in sometime. read more

Had the worst experience ever at this store!! I was already warned before I went that they were snobby and rude!! I was never spoken to the whole time I was in there. I went to the dressing room to try on a few finds.. I walked out and they had closed the STORE!! I was locking in!!!!!!!! They said they close at 7 and it was only 6:10. I even had to let myself was not told sorry for being locked in... I was however told when I left to have a great day... Umm really???? Yall just locked me in this store! And it's supposed to be a high end shop.... They had target clothes!! Nothing against target but if I wanted target clothes I would just go to target and get them cheaper then they had the clothes. I concur with the review that talks about how this store has changed since it opened. I am a very loyal customer and typically stick with one consignment shop where I buy (and sometimes sell) a good portion of my wardrobe. I am the type of customer who will pay a bit more to be loyal- just ask my manicurist and hairdresser- and my husband.. (hehehe) I hadn't been in the store for about 11 months because I was pregnant. The first time I went in post-pregnancy, the store had doubled in size (great for them) but the employees were in the back with a stash of new bags that had just come in. The employees were talking about which ones THEY were going to buy. I was a little annoyed about employees buying the best stuff before it hitting the shelves but I blew it off. This time I went in and asked if they would come down a bit on the prices of 2 items ($6 on a $46 purchase). Mind you, EVERY SINGLE TIME I had been in there before I had done this and the owner had marked down the prices of both new arrivals and other things (to the tune of sometimes 30% on an item). This time the owner not only acted insulted but treated me like I was the problem. She actually tried to whisper to me, "if I give you a $1 or $2 discount, I have to give everyone one." (Yes, like a cheap car salesman would say). This is just one of the many condescending insults she hurled my way. She acted like I was yelling (I was speaking in a normal tone) but I wasn't going to whisper. Mind you perhaps it would have been less of a problem for her if she didn't have multiple employees standing around watching or if she didn't proceed to walk around "apologizing" for the "scene". Negotiating at a consignment shop is not only normal, but it is good practice for everyone involved in the transaction. Just Google it and there are tons of articles on it. I also want to say that i was not stuck on the discount. It was the way I was treated when I asked. 1. I was told that they NEVER had negotiated with me. (basically calling me a liar) 2. When the owner came out she acted irritated and her demeanor (intentional or not) was just plain insulting. (It is totally acceptable if she didn't want to negotiate on those two particular items but ask me if there is something else I was considering that she could negotiate on etc...) don't behave like the act of me negotiating is insulting. I actually would have paid full price if she had treated me properly. I'm just glad I saw this now because I am getting ready to consign my size 6 wardrobe from when I lived in New York City. (I've given up ever being a size 6 again, despite that I have the cutest clothes!) I also have the cutest Prada clutch I've realized a mommy just doesn't need. I am SUPER glad I didn't consign it to them (and yea, if someone offered me $50 for a skirt I consigned for $52, that would work). Sad cause I like the shop but happy that I will find another one with an owner I love! Addendum: This owner posted a bizarre "comment from the owner" which is blatantly false, funny to me and offensive to others. (BTW- I'm not taking it personally because in reading her other responses, it seems similar in nature) I asked if she could "do $40 for the 2 items?" These are carefully crafted language and tactics I use when negotiating. I always bring at least two items and I actually had a third in mind (a cute little colorful purse) that had been on the store shelves for a while that I was hoping we could bring into the equation if necessary). Before I spoke to the the owner, the salesperson had no idea what I was asking about, so I asked her to get the owner (because we had done this before.) The person was a little snotty but nothing horrible. The owner's comments about how my experience went are also bizarrely untrue. She caused this incident NOT her staff. I feel the way she approached me was confrontational. I had to look around other staff to see her. It was weird. I knew it was going to be bad right then. In hindsight I should have not even bothered. I knew where it was going, I should have walked out and never turned back. My experience before the incident is not as she stated it. I had a whole conversation with the blond lady. I very pleasant one. She was the one who was helping me a few weeks back when I overhead the conversation about the bag. (I think she was embarrassed about it too). Her response to me here is downright insulting. Hiding behind your religion to justify your bad behavior is poor forum. read more

I went in here to purchase my daughter a purse. As a father, I don't know a whole lot about purses (and that's probably a good thing). The employees were as nice as they could be as my daughter asked them to look at purse after purse after purse from under the counter. They were patient and extremely polite to us. Allison, the manager, even helped out too. My daughter knew the brand of purse she wanted but needed a little help on the style. Allison was great and suggested a style my daughter was really happy with. She loves her purse to this day. I have been shopping at sugar plum since 2010 I got their living social and their groupon when they were just in the starting out. I love them. Until I was pregant I would shop there monthly. I have always have an awesome experience with all of their staff. Melissa remembers me and says hi to me everytime I see her. My husband and I just went recently because I knew they had tried carrying maternity at one point and I wanted to check in and see if that was the case. Melissa talked with me and was wonderfully pleasent. They were not carrying any maternity at the time but she told me they would as soon as the expansion opened. So the plan is to consign some of my maternity in a 2 months. I purchase all my clothes for work there. I always find what I am looking for and more. I just adore their dresses. They are a prefect play to buy spring and summer dresses and when I was in last week they a ton of gorgeous prom dresses. I too went to this store when they first opened up, and had great experiences. Recently, however, the staff has been rude, selfish, and unhelpful. For example, I asked if a particular clearance item was on sale, and the associate responded, "It says right at the front that green and black tags are not on sale, but everything else is." Upon checkout, I was told my clearance item (with a white tag) was not on sale because it was clearance. Thanks for telling me, sales associate. Also, if you go in anywhere near closing time, they practically shove you out of the door. Even if you have thirty minutes until close, they will constantly remind you to make your final selections. I have also been very disappointed with the stock at Sugar Plums lately. It seems that they are accepting any and all clothes that are brought in. Like an earlier review said, they have target and old navy clothes. I have nothing against these brands, but Sugar Plums prices these clothes higher than their original worth. Also, they take too much pride in their stock. I know you have Coach bags, and that's great, but you can't ask over $100 for a small used Coach bag I could buy at an outlet store new for $60. It's simply ridiculous. On the other hand, I got a goregous black and yellow INC dress in great condition for $16.00. Who prices their inventory??? It's so inconsistent! read more

I started shopping at Sugar Plum in late summer of 2011 and have *never* had the bad customer experience that a previous reviewer mentioned. In fact, Melissa and her staff seem to greet everyone w/a smile. The store *was* overcrowded until they rearranged things a few weeks ago, but now it's easier to access items. The prices are great...Shopping here is sort of like going to a boutique T.J Maxx -- if you can't decide whether to buy something and you wait more than a day or so the chances are good that it will be gone...i'm still kicking myself for not buying a pretty blue sweater i saw last August (when it still was v. hot and I wasn't in the mood to buy fall/winter.) read more

Whether you want to spend $1, $20, or splurge on designer brands- Sugar Plum has something for EVERYONE. There is not a better boutique in Memphis. In fact, I have not been able to find better service or a better welcome anywhere in this city. I am always greeted with a smile, always offered a fitting room (even if I have just one item in my hands), and always leave happy. It is a different store every time I go, as they tag new inventory every day they're open. They constantly update their Facebook site, so I check it as much as I can to see pictures of new items (okay, I'll admit it- I check it pretty much every day). Their consignment process is so organized, and they always have treats or cold water (or tea in the winter) or something fun or cute going on (concert ticket raffle drawings, daily "blessings", Ladies Night every Thursday, etc.) I can't get enough! Melissa and the ladies who run this shop are so creative. I give Sugar Plum my highest recommendation. Definitely my favorite consignment store in the Midsouth! The staff is very friendly and willing to go the extra mile in helping you pull together an outfit. I like the fact that they are picky about the clothes and accessories they choose; everything is new or almost new in excellent condition. While it's easy to purchase from this place, if you don't mind waiting in line for a long time (the employees never seem to be able to do things quickly, work the register, and they talk way too much) do NOT sell your items here. I have had extremely high-end items disappear and the employees were not able to tell me what happened. Later they claimed they were sold and gave me an absurdly low price for the items - as in less than $20. I'm pretty sure one of the employees took my items in the hopes I would never question them or come back looking for my things. Basically the only explanation is someone took them and later came up with a lie to tell me, or these employees are completely incompetant and should not be running a store. It seems they only cater, as the told me, to 40 to 50 year old shoppers, and were only willing to consign my items for less then $5. Sorry but people have to make a living. I brought them over 30 items which included 2 designer tops for about $170.00 each with the tags on, I think they gave me $7.00 each.
