I agree with Jolynna, they keep this place well-organized according to what's what. Size-wise, too. Sweaters are separate from tops, etc. And, it is what it is. Well-worn and loves items amid some gems. I spotted a gorgeous, heavy, beaded black cocktail dress for $19.97. I should have bought it. I have no idea where I'd wear it, but it was in immaculate condition. It's a good place to go for the person who likes to take the time to sniff out a good find. I also agree that the housewares are a bit more well-worn, but they do have a selection of couches, chairs, entertainment centers, old TVs, and shelving. If you are into bargain hunting and thrift stores, you'll really like this place. It's quite the hidden treasure. You'll find really great clothing brands like Ann Taylor Loft, Talbots, Harrold's, Chico, Ralph Lauren, Gap, Nike, Adidas and Levi's. In addition to really nice things and great name brands, there are plenty of funky, very dated "vintage" finds, so plan to spend more than a little time weeding through. It's well worth it, though. At least if you love the thrill of the hunt like I do. Mostly, I find classics, since trendy styles come and go so quickly. On the other hand, there are plenty of retro things and if you have an eclectic style, you'll definitely be happy with the things you're guaranteed not to see anyone else wear. The store is huge compared with the typical thrift store, which makes it much easier to shop. The clothes are very well organized by category - skirts, shorts, dresses, long sleeved tops, and on and on. They do a good job with keeping the sizes organized, too. Each week, a different color tag is 50% off. In addition to clothing, they have housewares, furniture and books, but I wasn't thrilled with what I saw there. Thrift store shopping is the best kind of shopping for Erica B. I fell in love with this place the moment I stepped inside. There's some awesome finds to be found in the way of name brand gently (and not so gently if I'm gonna be completely honest) used clothing items. Hell, I'll take an Ann Taylor Loft linen skirt for 10 bucks in my size any day of the week. And I did. Wouldn't you? Name brands aside, Jolynna's right they have quite a few random vintage pieces right smack dab in the middle of the Abercrombie, Gap and Express finds. I picked up a fabulous 50s era dress for 15 bucks, and some other super fun vintage pieces to add to my ever expanding thrift store wardrobe. Never mind the small fact that I have no idea when or where I will ever wear the dress. Nonetheless, it hangs in my closet and I stare at it every day as I dress, wondering if I'll ever find an excuse to actually take it off the hanger. Need furniture? Cheap? You'll find it here. They have a rather large selection- larger than I would have thought it to be. Granted, it is worn and most of it is dated, but it is cheap and you can sit on it- so it fits the bill. They also have a housewares selection, and it is very used to say the least, but again it is cheap and this is thrift store shopping at its finest. City Thrift is surprisingly organized for a thrift shop. The clothes are sectioned by type and then size within the type- so you get to hunt for items, but they don't make you go so far out of your way to do so that it takes the fun out of it. read more

Like a few of the other posters reviewed, I walked in, walked around and found some GREAT deals instantly. I saw several things that took me back down memory lane, either Items that I used to have, or always wanted as both a kid and an adult. One of the best features of the store is that they have power strips attached to the shelves on the floor so you can plug up electronics and test them out before you buy them. If you are an electronics/gadget junkie, like me, this is a definite plus ! My advice is to check the store out at least once a week since these places always receive new items and you never know what you'll find. My most recent "treasure hunt" got me, not one, but two 8mm SHARP VIEWCAM camcorders for $45 (one was a low end model tagged $14.99 on the floor shelf, the other newer model was in the case at the register tagged $29.99) . They both had nice camera bags and a few accessories. One still had the manual and appeared to be in fairly new condition. Both worked ! I know where to get tapes and spare batteries dirt cheap and I have a USB capture device for my laptop... Needless to say, this was like GOLD for me, lol. I have also come across several Wilson's Leather jackets and coats in great condition selling anywhere from $15 - $40... If you went to Wilson's in a mall somewhere, you'd pay anywhere from $100 all the way up to $300 for these. SOME WERE BRAND NEW ! They also have a color coded tag system and they have 50% off certain colored tags daily. Sometimes, they even have 50% off the entire store days (usually on or around a holiday). I wanted to give this place 0 stars. I purchased Christian Audigier pants for $22. 1. the tag had on there a size 15 but the pants said size 33. Pants didn't fit me and because their fitting rooms are permanently closed I couldn't try them on. I purchased the pants and tried to return less than an hour after leaving the store 2. after the purchase the cashier and I did our research and found out a size 33 is a 12 in which she admitted that they put the pants in the wrong size. 3. I was forced by the manager on duty to do exchange on an ugly purse I didn't want for the third time. This is my 3rd time having to do an exchange and I told the manager I work odd hours so I don't know when I will be back to do an exchange and I want a refund. He refused and was very rude and said, "oh well." After I was forced to do an exchange, I donated that ugly purse right back to city thrift. WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME! NEVER SHOPPING THERE AGAIN! read more

Not sure if I want to give this place a 2 or a 3, so I'll be generous and give it a 3. I must say that I went through the clothes and they were very nice, if a tad expensive if it was in almost brand new condition. However, I mostly go to thrift store for books and DVDs. The book section was large but the prices for books were surprisingly expensive for a thrift shop. I don't remember there being DVDs, but maybe they were in some place I did not check. I'll probably try this one again just to see if I came on a bad day. read more

As we walked in this thrift, I spotted a Vera Bradley (my fav) behind the counter. It was a relatively small bag and it was tagged crazy-high like $35-45. My husband said, "Let's go" but I wanted to browse a bit more. In the end, we wound up buying nothing. This place is the absolute worst. When it first opened, I had decent luck here for a short while, but their prices soon became absolutely outrageous. Empty perfume bottles, $10 each. Ripped, stained clothing at retail prices. I'm attaching some photos of just a few of the ridiculous items that I saw today on what will definitely be my last visit to this dump. Including a $5 empty liqueur bottle (that's right, they're literally selling garbage), a $25 outdated toaster oven covered in food, and a small burned up (as in, obviously charred in a house fire) shelf for $10. Their starting price for everything seems to be $20 instead of $2 or 99c. Whoever does their pricing is INSANE. Why in the world do you find it necessary to charge as if these items are new, when they're filthy and outdated! And this isn't the first time I've seen things like this here. On my last visit, they had an American Eagle paper bag for sale. Stay away from this place (including donations). This organization is far from charitable. read more

I went two days before christmas and the store was still in great shape. I found some great pieces alittle overpriced but well worth the shopping experience. They have a wide range of housewares, books, toys and luggage. Just to add the staff was not very friendly and the wait in line was very long. Overall the store was a great place to shop but I am a super thrifter that knows how to find a great deal and it could have been cheaper. read more

I will never return here again. This store at 5124 Summer Ave in Memphis is not a place that I choose to go to again. I purchased clothes the wrong size and wanted to exchange them for the correct size not even an hour later. i was told in no uncertain terms that was just to bad. The receipt does not say this, and before you get to the cash register it does not say that. As you are leaving a small paper states it in an obscure place. I was treated very rudely by the Manager Ted in our conversation. He all but said to not be so stupid next time. I have all the receipt information and he said they were just not going to go back and look, and it was just to bad on my part. I was very very dissatisfied with the customer "NO' service from the manager, the workers were fine. But the rude and impolite way I was treated, apart from my small 15.22 purchase, is not proper. If you want to stay in business, treat people correctly. Especially when it is within hours of the purchase and you have a receipt. I'll not go back and share that you might want to take this treatment into consideration if you are unfortunate enough to go near the place. Don read more

Great selection but very over-priced! No matter if you want a used 10 pg. children's book or a 1200 pg. medical text book they charge the same. That's ridiculous! Okay...straight-up: I LOVE this place! It's a thrift shop so it's low on glamour. But tell you what, if you want glamour, take your fancy-pants over to Talbots or Dilliard's and spend 10x what you will at City Thrift! Okay, okay, you won't find clothes quite THAT nice at City Thrift, but they have a wide assortment of quality clothing for dirt-cheap prices. Even better, they have a sale every Monday where they'll choose a random color tag, and all items with that tag color are 99 cents! (Items over $19 are just half off I believe, but that's barely anything in the store). They have other sales throughout the week as well, but the Monday sale is where it's at. They also do a good job of keeping things relatively organized by size, unlike some other local or national thrift shops (which as a plus-size dude means a lot, because there are far more M's and L's in the world than 3XL's). So if you are looking to change up your wardrobe without breaking the bank, City Thrift is where it's at! read more

The clothes are normal fare you would find at any thrift store, and they have a lot of it. The prices surprised me for being a bit higher on some items. I needed a black dressy shirt and I found one but for $12? Two other shirts I bought were at $2.98. If the tags are still on it they only mark down 50%, which can still be a lot for a thrift store.. I've never paid more than $5-$6 for a shirt at a thrift store, name brand or not. The main thing that bugged me was their 3 dressing rooms. Ugly, inefficient, desperate need of a paint job and more hanger holders. Walls and floor were filthy. There are only 3 dressing rooms!! For a store that big they need at least 6, and their policy is no more than 3 items which is ridiculous. How many times do I have to dress and undress and go back and forth, it's a complete waste of time. PLUS, the doors seemed to always be closed even if no one is in there, and you have to search for an employee to unlock it for you. Very inefficient way to shop. Honestly I might go back but the dressing room experience was just too bad. read more
