When you're buying three of the same items and only one is missing a price tag, refusing the sale is absolutely horrible business practice. Train your employees to not literally refuse business and train your managers to deal with unpriced items. Clothing is pretty overpriced too. You can find way better thrift stores in Memphis. WAY better. read more

This place has some great stuff, especially clothes...you just have to spend time to look through the racks. Oh and let's not forget shoes. Bought two pairs suede shoes hardly worn for $3 each but were worth close to $100 a pair. I lucked out that day! Love this place. It has great jewelry and furniture too...just have to look from time to time. read more

If I could give them a 0 or a -5, I would. I went to the store looking for some black jeans. I had just left another store, and they didn't have what I wanted and I was pressed for time, so I thought I'd stop there. I walked in, asked "Chloe" where the women's jeans were, and proceeded to browse. Within about two minutes, I found exactly what I was looking for, and they were what I considered to be competitively priced for a second-hand store. The tag read $6.98. I took them up to the register to purchase them, and Chloe informed me that I would not be able to purchase the jeans because the price tag was not attached. Actually, it was attached, but it was attached to the pocket, which apparently is not where the price tags are typically attached. Even though she saw me enter the store and common sense should have told her that I had not been there long enough to engage in the type of deception of which it appeared I was being accused, she acted as if I had switched price tags and called a "Code 5" (whatever that is) to the Assistant Manager, Brendan, who naturally backed up her position to not sell me the jeans. I understand "policies," but I also understand "good customer service," which was not exhibited by Chloe or Brendan. If it is obvious that the customer didn't engage in the type of activity for which the policy is designed to address, the staff should have the discretion to waive the policy in the interest of good customer service. Either the policies or the training need to be revised but, in the meantime, I won't darken their door again. read more

Mid South Outlet is a local thrift store on Summer, and I visit very often to browse through the racks and racks of clothing and shelves of books and movies. Be warned- the place is crowded and the racks are very close together so it's not a perfect bargain-hunting experience, but you will find bargains. I've found this is a great place for kids' clothing and have even stumbled upon some great boutique items, smocked dresses and pillowcase dresses here. Best of all, they were in great condition, and ran about $2 each. I've also found winter coats, pajamas and Halloween costumes for dirt cheap. There is a ladies' suit section, and I have been able to find nice brands like Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, and even Kaspar. Designer jeans like Seven for All Mankind and AG are mixed in with the Lees, Levis, Gap, American Eagle and others. Why pay $160 for jeans when you could scoop them here for about $5? The handbag section is also pretty big, and I've lucked out with a Kate Spade clutch before. Kids' books range from about 25 cents to $2.99, so I always peruse that section, but I'm not big on the toy aisle. Some are broken, some are dirty and I'm afraid some may have missing pieces. read more

This might be one of the most reasonably priced thrift/vintage stores I've stumbled across in Memphis. They have a great selection of vintage furniture items ranging in decades from the 50s to the 80s. Armoires, trunks, dressers, turntables, upholstered wooden chairs and even used mattresses (if that's your thing) run amok in this store. They have a large selection of clothing as other reviewers have mentioned, but I didn't have the patience to squeeze my pregnant butt through the tiny aisles to look through the over crowded racks. I will take their word for it that it's a decent selection. If you can make yourself toward the back of the store, there are a few aisles of kitchen ware and collectible items. You may or may not find some hidden gems over here- though on my trip it was more toward the may not end of the spectrum. It is still totally worth a good look. I will return here in the future for the furniture options. They definitely seem to get some gems in their store and they don't over price them like most vintage stores on Summer Ave. The rest of the selection was decent, but without those furniture items I probably wouldn't see a reason to return. read more

I and some of my family members have found good items at the Mid South Outlet, for good prices.

I went as a first time shopper here, in need of a watch, with little money to pay and little time to shop for one. I found the staff friendly, efficient and the prices extrememly reasonable. I was only in the jewlrey department, but loved everything I saw. The manager even went out of his way to give me directions to my next stop. I left there with a great watch, great directions and in record breaking time. My kind of store, my kind of people. Parking was a bit congested, but that's because so many people were shopping there. I lived in Memphis for over 20 years and only discovered thrift shops during the last half of that time. I know I visited all of them I could find (this was before the internet), and by far, far,far, Mid-South Out was superior! It is packed with all kinds of stuff from household items, furniture, books, collectibles, clothe, shoes and accessories like you can't even imagine and so much more. I literally had 2 rooms full of clothes I bought here, all in excellent condition and all well known brands (Ann Taylor, Kasper, The Limited, Banana Republic, and so much more. I worked at a very upscale retirement home and promise I was the best dressed person there for probably only 1/10th of what others spent. This place is packed full, but if you have time to dig, it is well worth it. Also, don't forget to look outside in the back behind the stooe. I got some great outdoor furniture there. read more

Never know what you'll find.Some new discontinued stuff, some used, some junk,, been going there 30+ years. Bought cameras, camcorders, Leaf vacuum, industrial tripod, books, toys, dvds, cds, electronic junk. You pay your money, you take your chances, better odds than Tunica Casino's. Recently they started gettibg in a load of cd's that they leave piled up in carts that are a pain in the back to look through, when I started shelving them so it would be easier for people to find stuff and save wear and damage to stock. One of the stockers started taking them off the shelves and putting back in cart, saying they did not want to shelve them. This seems stupid, time wasting,and damaging to stock. also it hurts my surgically repaired back digging through stuff at almost floor level. read more
