Refreshing, slightly effervescent, aromatic, flavorful, complex in a good way, clean on the palate. I've tried most of the bottled brands of Kombucha sold at Oliver's supermarket, and they do carry quite a few labels. I do like the Revive brand for the reasons listed in the 1st paragraph above. I do have a habit of seeing the sediment at the bottom of the bottle and then shake the bottle to mix it in. And then forget not to open the bottle right away. Sploossh! About 2 ounces erupt on my pants. Inexplicable expensive like most kombucha. When on sale I pay $3.29. Kind'a don't understand why a bottle of kombucha (fermented tea) is priced 100% to 150% higher than beer (fermented barley, rice or wheat). None the less, at lunchtime when I need an energy boost without caffeine I will grab a bottle of Revive kombucha. read more

I am a big fan on the Cola flavored kombucha; it has a taste that is similar to an anise/vanilla flavored cola without the corn syrup. I have also had the cucumber mint which was okay but I could do without having it again. Fairly clean list of ingredients and its available at a lot of big chain grocery stores. read more

First off let me say that my review is biased due to the fact that ownership is family. Not so many years ago before all of this started it were my sibling and her hubby which introduced me to Kombucha. What I knew of it was some funky Chinese tea like stuff made from a fermented spore and into a drink which supposedly offered greatening feeling of vitality and more. Not like something out of a video game, like invincibility, but a good something you could get from it for the everyday. You can check out Wikipedia for more information about kombucha. During the fermentation process of "buch" there are a great many healthy benefits. Stuff which is naturally created and works to benefit us such as: Probiotics which is good for healthy digestion, boosting metabolism and strengthening immunity. These work with acids to support these functions of digestion and circulation. There are statistics that can be found on the Internet of added benefits folks have experienced from its continued consumption. In regards to myself, I've found that it reduces my craving for sugar, drinking a beer or snacking. Due to fermentation, it's got less than .5 percent of alcohol. Different to a beer, I feel spirited enough to still do stuff but with enough consumption I work to help myself and get a slight buzz during. Good stuff. It's taste and effervescence keep me spirited for those long mornings of work, laying out with people or the occasional long night of writing reviews on Yelp! From the time I first tasted it, I continued to sample different brands found at the likes of Whole Foods, Trader Joes and stuff found at farmers markets. You'd be surprised the number of folks that make it in their homes. On the West coast, kombucha is a big deal. So big in fact that folks prefer to have it (some are offered with higher alcohol contents) instead of their usual pint of beer. Drinking something which is good for you and giving you a slight buzz, nice! Plus it's got a lot of good shit inside as I stated above. Revive is made with organic fair trade ingredients, its gluten free and vegan, also has low sugar and low caffeine. Those on special diets like GFCF, know there aren't many drink options for you that contain effervescence. Due to Revive's good stuff approach, this is an option. I mean.. yeah you could drink other brands of kombucha also.. But why? Now I've tasted many of the brands most have seen in stores today. There are two favorites of mine, Revive and the ever popular GTS. (GTS is the easiest to find in Chicago and hopefully soon we may see Revive available there as well, that is as long as people that have tried it are willing to share their thoughts with store management.) After having to serve a day long sentence of juicing lemons at the Revive plant, I like Revive that much more. Couple reasons; which mainly are for taste. Forget that I'm biased and I know the owners. Trust me; I don't get as much free shtuff as you might think. I know, its bogus right? My apologies for wandering off topic, but maybe management will see this review and remedy this for me. Not. Many purists would say that kombucha should taste alike other kombucha product, which depending on which flavor you try can be kind of "mediciny" or "vinegary". While all kombucha shares that aspect, Revive has a flavor all to their own. A flavor that competitors may try to mimic, but fail in comparison. Which all starts with a black tea which to me is much different than the rest. Since my short lived stint juicing lemons, I got to try a few other kombucha "flavors" not yet released to the public. Since Kombucha is made in small batches, you know that the people behind its creation process are doing their best to ensure the very best product. Boy, how I wish these other batches were available for everyone, but they are still in the testing phases. What fun is had at the Revive labs, indeed. Maybe one of these days Sean will start allowing people to stop by for tastings but for now, you can get a taste at many Whole Foods locations in and around Santa Rosa / Sonoma county, as well as a few known gourmet markets. I've heard that there is a winery and a restaurant that plan to offer it for their customers as well, so look for it on tap. They've been locally brewed in Petaluma and/or Windsor (a northern suburb of Santa Rosa) They recently contributed to North Bay Wildfire relief, so, a great drink for a great cause! I totally understand that kombucha isn't everyone's cup of tea (no pun intended). And I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that most people have tasted bad kombucha. I'm talking about the flavorless kind with the mucus-like surface. That's like judging all tequila because of the bad Cuervo Gold you drank in college. Trust me, kombucha (when done right) can be a refreshing beverage with many healthy benefits. And for my money, the best kombucha out there right now is Revive (which also happens to be based in our North Bay backyard!). It's currently available in select stores, including Whole Foods Market, Mollie Stone's, and Nugget locations. You can also occasionally find them at local food/wine festivals. My favorite flavors are the Hibiscus Brew, the Coffee Brew (which happens to be infused with Blue Bottle Coffee), and the Yerbe Mate Brew (which boasts some potent ginger flavor). Cool, little Revive factoid: they offer a Bottle Exchange Program. When you buy any of their 16oz or 64oz Kombuchas, you pay a deposit on the bottles. And if you bring your empty bottles back to an exchange location, they'll refund you the deposit. So that's kind of cool and green! All in all, I'm a fan of this local company, and I look forward to watching them spread kombucha love across the state and country. read more

FIrst, I'll say thiat this is the fourth brand of kombucha that I find tolerable. I don't like the stuff that acts like an energy drink, or some "groovy" soda pop. On the positive side, with this brand: They actually say on the bottle how much caffeine is in it. It's not a huge amount, but it gives you a buzz. And I don't feel terrible after drinking it. On the other hand, the "Black Tea" (O.G.) variety I had is basically tasteless. Kombucha for folks that don't like kombucha. I'd drink it if it was all that was available. The bottle is smaller than most brands. Hopefully some of the other varieties have more flavor. My favorites are the Humm brand and the stuff made by Townsend's Teas.... read more

Revive is truly unique. My favorite is the Go Solar Yerba Mate brew - very fresh and light. I love everything but the coffee flavor, actually, but simply the ability to culture palatable coffee, mate, and anything more than just the usual black and green tea shows a great deal of skill by the brewer. The Cucumber mint is superb, as is the herbal Hibiscus. Revive makes one of the few herbal brews you will find on the market as well as many other specialty teas; by specialty I mean actually different tea leaves, not just added flavors. What I would really like to see is *precise* labeling of the alcohol content. It is my understanding that above 0.5% alcohol content, beverages must be labeled as such. I have no beef with that and I do not care about the alcohol license debate over Kombucha, but I do care about choosing a low/no alcohol content brew as a personal preference. I would like to know if there is a difference in the Revive brand. Are they lower than other brands? They taste lower. They definitely have an artisan edge over competitors. Most brews are black tea, maybe a green tea here and there, but Revive brews white tea, herbal hibiscus, yerba mate (again, spectacular!)I think it would be very appealing to people to have a less than 0.1% or otherwise negligible content label to set Revive brand apart *if* they are that low. Apparently, not only is labeling the alcohol content contentious, the actual alcohol testing process has not been standardized. This calls in to question any comparison of results not only between kombucha recipes, but between beer and wine as well. The bacterial component of the brewing process is not amenable to certain alcohol testing techniques. I don't know why I went on about this, except that I know I wanted to know a little more, and I know that even after I read a lot online, I still didn't know much more. The majority of the people who work for this company are amazing and deserve a medal for the hard work they do. Solid Product, one of the best kombuchas you can find on the market. Super Tasty Cold! My rating use to be 5 stars, until I was enlightened over this past year. 5 stars are for honest companies who hold their integrity to the highest of standards. I make my own kombucha and have probably tried everything available on the market at least in NorCal, and Revive is by far the best! I don't know what they're doing over there, but it's unreal. My favorite is the Boogie Down (formerly OG). It's like a lighter, more refreshing Coca Cola, without all the gnarly ingredients! 10/10 would recommend. read more

Ok. I have to admit that I have no idea what the other revive Kombucha products taste like, because at $6 for a 16oz bottle, which is re-usable and cool, I could not bring myself to buy more than one, especially because for another 6 bucks I could buy a sixer that I know I like, and would probably last a couple of days ....maybe. Anyhow, from the other reviews I read, I can only assume that the other flavors taste WAYYYYYY better than the coolly named 'revive GOLD'. As it was, I had to convince myself that because it was a very expensive, probiotic beverage, that is "good" for me, I needed to consume it ...all of it. I also had to convince myself that it was in fact, not what it actually tasted like. A co-worker was watching the parade of expressions morph across my face as I worked to get the first sip past my tongue, down my throat, and into my stomach, where I hoped it would stay. In all fairness, I have to say that I was eventually able to finish the entire bottle ....because I'm a trooper ...and a cheapskate. So, once I regained my composure, I was sort of obligated to explain to my friend what was going on inside my mouth for the full 2 minutes that it took to swallow the first sip (I eventually got it down to about 15 seconds per sip). The best way I found to describe the flavor was to imagine the recipe necessary for me to make something similar in my kitchen .... or bathroom. Here it is: My homemade version of Revive's Kombucha GOLD probiotic beverage- In 5 Easy Steps. (May not be as healthy, but similar in taste) 1. Lay out a 12'x12' square of quadruple layered cheesecloth (Layer it yourself if you can't find quad-ply cheesecloth at the supermarket). 2. Take approximately one cup of USED coffee grounds from a pot that you brewed last Thursday or Friday, be careful not to introduce any smashed egg shells into the mix, and spread onto the cheesecloth. 3. Now pull up the four corners of your cheesecloth and tie off into a ball. 4. Steep the Coffee-ground ball in Seltzer water for 3-4 days, or until murky brown. 5. Add just enough Sugar to keep it this side of drinkable. Enjoy!!!! Now, if revive GOLD is actually meant to taste like my home recipe, then the joke is on me ..Ha! Ha!, but if not, then the folks at revive might want to consider getting their taste tester's taster checked out by a qualified professional, because revive GOLD is awful! NOTE: I would have used all caps to spell awful, but I didn't want to be accused of exaggeration. As it stands, this one harrowing experience may have single handedly turned me away from the entire world of Kombucha ...and coffee. And that is not a good thing .....I NEED the coffee. read more

It's rather disturbing that they no longer will recycle their bottles. I can understand the difficulties, but then to charge $2 more for the new bottles is unreasonable.
