Ordered a cheeseburger and poutine, first of all, the place got super dirtier than I remembered, The guy who's taking the order he's mean, dirty looking and super rude. For two items was $22, That's beyond insane. Burger was small and tasteless. The topping counter is dirty and the vegetables looks like it was thrown out at no frills. The gravy on the poutine is filled with MSG and put me into a coma straight away it looks nothing like the picture. If I could give this place a -1000 I would, stay away from this place. I have until now gone to this Ajax location for years. I have always enjoyed the food and promoted it to my friends until recently. I went in and ordered a souvlaki and paid by visa and did not apply a tip. This is when every thing went bad. The cook burned the bun & pressed out the juice from the meat after cooking it. The person who dressed it did not apply the tzatziki nor the lemon juice I asked for and the fried onions were burnt to a crisp. They did this to the side where I could not see. We usually get their staple cheese burgers + a milkshake...Sometimes at certain hours, they have a promo where you can get 5x hamburgers for like $20-$22 price range... The staff is friendly and the burgers are decent as they grill it there and you can pick your toppings like a 'harveys'...We usually like to have grilled onions and greek yogurt Tsisikis sauce...Prob mis-spelled that...Sry! I'm not really a burger fan to be honest but this place was not bad! Super friendly staff and really fun environment. Really got that retro vibe down; all they're missing are some old arcade machines and a gumball machine. Haha The food is great too! Talk about a great deal! Burgers are mostly 5 oz but they are not small! Patties are juicy and filling! The poutine though, is huge!! Very homely and they put so much cheese on it :) love it! Super impressed with the tastiness of these cheeseburgers! I've eaten here several times now and they're consistently delicious....and ditto the Philly cheese steak sandwiches, but beware, those are big suckers that'll have you busting at the seams (in the best possible way). Personally, I would skip the Greek salad and the crispy chicken sandwich, although my hubby likes the crispy chicken, so it's just a matter of taste. Oh, and if you like your bacon crispy, then Retro does it just right....there's nothing quite like a little bacon cheeseburger to brighten your day :) Amirite? They serve a good burger and great fish and chips (haven't tried their Philly cheesesteak yet) but what brought me here on Yelp is that I have to rave about their poutine. It's the BEST, and I've had a LOT of different ones. You can't go wrong with the classic but my go-to poutine is the bacon poutine. It's absolutely DEEEELISH and they always put the perfect amount of bacon, cheese curds, and gravy atop their yummy fries. The bacon has such a satisfying crunch to it. Fun place, friendly service, great food! Just found this place and what caught my eye was their heavy promotion of their Philly Cheese Steaks. Growing up in Niagara Falls, that city had the best Philly Steaks, otherwise known there as the 'steak sub'. Never been able to find a good Philly steak outside of Niagara since I left (except in New York City, they were awesome there). Anyway, tried the Philly Steak at Retro Burger and it was awesome! Still not as good as what you can get in Niagara, but by far the best I have been able to find so far. I tweaked the sandwich a little bit... asked for no hot sauce (normally they add mild, medium or hot), asked for hot peppers instead of green peppers. The rest of the sandwich had fried onions, mushrooms, cheese, toasted bun. It was great! Next time I go I'll also add diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Then the sandwich will be complete and as close to Niagara's version as I can get, for now... Fries, onion rings and the atmosphere all great as well... enjoy! Easily one of the best burger joints in the GTA. Ajax is not exactly a culinary jewel. If you want a fantastic Chinese restaurant, or a Hakka restaurant, or Indian, or Thai, or Korean, or ..., or ..., or ..., or even a ...., there's a pretty good chance that you'll have to drive all the way to Toronto or Mississauga or some other far away land. We have a few 4s here (kudos to them), but mostly 3s in the Durham region, and that sucks for foodies. Now that the rant is over, I can actually get back to Retro. This place is AMAZING. I can't believe I lived in Pickering/Ajax for 10 years before discovering this hidden gem on Bayly. Great family sit down place or good for take out the staff here are the friendliest I have ever seen the owner is incredibly nice really gets to know his customers and always makes you feel welcome and the staff are the same way I have to say I am extremely impressed I hadn't seen the level of customer service I get at Retro Burger anywhere else. The food is great, I have had their Philly Cheese Steak numerous times it is by far the best Philly I have ever had in Ontario, honestly eating a Philly at places near by like Kelseys, Shoeless Joes etc... those expensive chains Retro Burger's $8.00 Philly Cheese Steak puts these to SHAME! You have to try it with their hot sauce. My only complain about the philly is the the bun isn't the greatest it just can't handle all that philly and sauce so when I get home if I don't eat it quick enough it gets soggy but still good. They have a burger special of $2.49 for a burger between 2-5 PM I believe and the burgers are great. I haven't had much else other than their poutine (also good) but I visit frequently. Ordered the 5oz cheese burger combo with fries and a chocolate shake. The flavour of the burger was very good, the fries are run of the mill nothing special, the milkshake was good and creamy. The price is pretty good but for a whole family of four the price does get up there. The atmosphere is very nice, and was quiet busy for the late afternoon lunch. Overall, I would say if your in the area and hungry it's a good place to eat, but I wouldn't make any special trips to Retro Burger. read more

Ordered a spicy philly chicken steak and poutine. Both were MASSIVE. The price of the poutine was a steal, though I wish I had a little more cheese. The gravy was pretty good as well though a little watery. Philly chicken steak was stuffed generously with green peppers, mushroom, chicken, onions and cheese. Apparently, you can add whatever extras you like from their toppings? I asked for extra hot peppers at the end. My only complaint about the philly was their bun. The bread is too soft to hold all the toppings that it comes with so before the sandwich was finished, it had either become grossly soggy, or split at the seam dropping all the toppings. We stumbled across Retro Burger thanks to the Waze app and some awful 401 traffic in Ajax. I ordered the hamburger (only $3.50 Mon- Fri from 2-5pm!) and my boyfriend got the Philly cheesesteak with Retro sauce. The burger was homemade and one of the best I've had in recent memory. However, the cheesesteak sandwich was definitely the highlight! For less than $10, you get a huge portion of meat with mushrooms, peppers and onions at no additional cost. I heard many great things about this place but what I heard and what I seen was two very different experiences. I heard the burgers were great which I'm sure they are and I heard their poutine is fantastic but when I went in to order a bacon poutine and a cheese burger my friend who ordered the same exact thing got his first I was wondering since I ordered first how he got his burger first only to find out they didn't give me a burger.... When I asked where the burger was they said it was on top of the poutine now being really confused I opened it to find a cut up patty on top of my poutine and I did not order that it ruined the poutine as well as not having the cheese burger I was so excited to try I don't know how they could screw up so bad and I didn't have time to waste because I was late to work as it was a terrible experience even mc Donalds has never screwed me over that bad. read more

The first thing i pay attention to when going to any burger restaurant is the size of the burger and the patty itself. The patty was nicely grilled and delicious. I love that I can call and order ahead of time before I pick up. What's even better is that the wait wasn't that long. I ordered for 3 people so I expected about a 30 minute wait. Can't beat the price! $3.00 for a burger until 5pm. And you get to pick all fresh toppings to put on your burger for free (except for cheese and bacon of course). I always order a second burger for my dog. The retro burger is delicious and you have to have the retro sauce on it too.
