Every detail, from door knobs to furnishings, have been thoughtfully installed and placed to whisk you back to the turn of the 20th century. Magnificent wood work throughout with spacious halls and tall ceilings set the mood of the original Architect's intent - elegant charm! The hosts, Gerry and Jenny, did a wonderful job from start to finish! From communication via email, to welcoming us at the front steps, giving us a tour of the home and setting the historical stage, to waiting on us at amazing breakfasts! The Ross Mansion is also just a 10 minute walk to the heart of the historic downtown district, where many shops and restaurants await you! We are extremely happy that we found this gem! If you're passing through, make it a point to stay a night, or a few! This was truly a wonderful experience! Hats off to Gerry and Jenny!

I am reluctant to write this review for a couple of reasons. The first is because I don't want to…read moregive away the best kept secret in vacation rentals. The second I will keep to myself. I love the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I always have. People can complain about the beaches and the water, but they're missing several key things. First of all, this is one of the closest real beaches to New Orleans. Second, I spent a large portion of my youth out here with my family and for that reason alone, it will always be special to me. Those memories are what drives me to this beach several times during the summer. You see, those memories are so incredible for me that I want my own children to have similar experiences. So now that the sentimental stuff is out of the way, I'll explain more about the rental. I found these rentals while searching vrbo.com. I had stayed in a beachfront hotel a few weeks before and was massively disappointed. These rentals looked great and were half of what the hotel cost. Booking was incredibly easy, and the owner was very friendly. What is billed as a cabin is actually a trailer. They have been fancied up a hit, but they are still a trailer. Ours had a single bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/dining area and a living area with sleeper sofa. The bedroom was small, but manageable. The bed was a full so my legs hung far off of the end. If you're tall, that's something to consider. Having a full kitchen was a nice addition and saved on food cost since we were able to cook a few meals instead of dining out. The kids loved the sleeper sofa especially since they could watch the tv while lounging in their bed. There wasn't much of a view from the cabin I rented, but it was only one block from the beach. For the price, you really can't get a better place.

I 100% wish we had stayed at the St Philip the entire trip. It's quiet and very accessible by foot to every corner of the French Quarter. Our room was 3x the size of our Frenchmen room for the same price, and I was surprised that we actually utilized the kitchenette (which is well stocked with utensils and dishware etc, plus the coffee maker in the room is a plus). The hotel itself is silent which can be hard to find, and I was surprised how much I valued the quiet after 2 nights of Frenchmen street. The only drawback is a lack of parking. There is a lot on Elysian Field (6/7 blocks away) that the desk clerk recommended that's only $20/24 hours but you do need to walk back and put more money in the meter daily, which in the middle of summer in the middle of the day can be an arduous task - to maximize your $20, stay as close to the same time as when you first check the car in (first payment at 3pm, the 24 hrs expires at 3pm the next day). I did see plenty of parking tickets on windshields and a car with a boot all over so, parking laws are definitely enforced. Just as an aside, most hotels with parking or a valet service run $30+/nightly plus you have to tip the driver so $20 is a steal. All in all, the St Philip is a unique, affordable, very comfortable hotel in the heart of the action.

Our room was so cute and well decorated. The entrance and courtyard, along with the rooms were well kept and clean! Everything was in walking distance!
