We visited Splendor farms as a last second get away for a Saturday evening. I called Saturday morning to see about a vacancy that evening. Kelly, the owner, answered and was polite and prompt about getting back to me about an opening that evening. We heading out, and arrived around 4:15. The farm was easy to find, about 30 minutes from the Covington exit off of I-12. It was quickly evident that the farm was a working farm and that friendly dogs were present. However, although the farm was not super manicured and landscaped, it was laid out very well and clean. There was a kennel close to the house which housed alot of eager to let you know they were there puppies. Kelly quickly showed us around, and let us know to review the welcome packet, as it had important information. She showed us the dining room, with its games, coffee and beautiful table. We were next shown our room, the Ponderosa room, which had a microwave, and mini fridge on its screened in porch. The room was beautiful, exuded warmth and the decor was on theme. After reviewing the rules we explored. There is a saltwater pool (closed for the season), a hot tub (that we unfortunately didn't enjoy, no bathing suits) and a fire pit (which we later heavily enjoyed) all close to the house and the rooms. The farm has a gorgeous white pony, 2 burros (one was pregnant), a few goats, chicken,and 2 super fluffy bunnies. We followed the rules as we explored, ie if you open a gate close it. We were escorted by 2 super old and friendly farm dogs, and encountered multiple super sweet farm cats. The fields were a bit muddy, but it had obviously rained a few days before. We only explored one field with horses, but they were super sweet and the fields were well cared for. We went to the local Hog Heaven for BBQ (highly recommend, 15 minutes away, huge portions, delicious). After dinner we headed back and enjoyed the fire pit. We turned in early, because the bed was soooo comfortable. Unfortunately, the temperature dropped super quickly overnight, but it was on the forecast. Breakfast in the dining room the next morning was delicious, the french toast was perfect and the huervos rancheros was authentic. We decided to opt out of the trail ride the following morning because we hadn't packed for the rain (silly us). Kelly however offered coats and gloves, which was a kind gesture and really appreciated. We will definitely be back in the summer and better prepared. A few things to remember about this place, there is a kennel on site as Kelly is a dog breeder, so there is barking and some smell. However, Kelly provided ear plugs in the rooms for the barking and its outside, so the smell isn't terrible. Another thing to note is as this is a small business. check or cash is preferred, since credit card companies charge that nasty transaction fee to businesses, but Kelly will take credit cards if necessary. Additionally, Kelly teaches lessons, does camp, and trails rides, so she knows her horses. Just like any horse person I've encountered over the years, Kelly has a no nonsense attitude about her place. However, she manages to be clear about her farm and the rules while being warm and friendly. This is obviously what she is born to do and she is amazing at it. We will be visiting again, multiple times and with family! read more

These are not miniature dachshunds. My dogs grew to be large. They look massive next to other doxies. ALSO - she lied about my 2nd puppy having blue eyes. She sent a SIDE profile pic, of his ONE blue eye and said he had blue EYES. PLURAL. Never got a picture of him face on. Upon arrival we were shocked to see he only had ONE blue eye and the other BROWN. We drove all the way from Texas!!! After looking back at the pictures she sent us, it's clear it was intentional the way she placed him in the photos. Love my boy dogs but will never buy from her again. She sends you home with a care package for your dog she's also available to answer questions. He prices very dependent on if you are looking to adopt a puppy or adults. He adults are limited. My April was 3 years old she was one of used for breeding. She only breeds them once after they have 1 litter then shes fixes them in pups the up for adoption.She don't treat them like a puppy mill she cares for each dogs will being an health. I wouldn't even give them one star. Very unprofessional and their bussiness practices are very matter-of-fact like. Me and my husband booked a trail ride and there were hiccups with booking at every turn and miscommunications. As we drove out there three times from Slidell to recieve no service in return. Please see below: These are the recollection of events as mentionend previously; the first initial rescheduling was done on the 30th of March due to the rain. Please see the attached screenshots. It was done via email. They gave us this option of rescheduling due to rain in the area via text intially and then that was redacted. The seocnd occured when we came on the 6th of April. We rescheduled in-person with a staff member. This fact was initially denied via text (on today) but proven via email that we did actually schedule. However, they claimed we scheduled for 11:30 not 11:00. It was raining (when we came there from Slidell the second time) and the staff member said the trail was flooded. The staff member took out her phone and rescheduled us for today. Which we showed up but no one was there to greet us for the 11:00 session. I have pictures to show/video of today. Before we left we contacted the office via email, text, and phone however no one was able to be contacted. They refuse to give a refund and are trying to say that when we initially booked, they accommodated us by moving the booking prior to session. Specifically, my husband is a Air Forcmen. We had to move due to his schedule and this was done days in advance (by the way). I do not appreciate the operations of this business nor their unappreciation for their clientele. Today now they claimed we showed up at the wrong time and was at the wrong place on the farm. Which is impossible beacaue this is where we stood the second time. Even if so this company could learn to employ methods of scheduling which could be and should be more cohesive amongst them and there clients. I also had to write them to ask what equipment was needed or how we should dress etc. Hence the screenshot below with them informing me. This commercial breeder has been reported to the AKC. The breeder placed profit, social media, and dog aesthetics above the welfare of my dog. Here is my personal experience with this breeder, Kelly McKinney: 1) sold me an unhealthy and emotionally traumatized dog, per a professional dog behaviorist assessment 2) misled me about Sunni's age (initially said she was 2yrs old and then upon delivery and a $1000 deposit, told me she was 4yrs old and 4mos. Then she ESCALATED the purchase price upon delivery from $1200 to $2000. By this time I was already emotionally prepared and attached to this dog after the deposit. 3) Additionally, she ignored all attempts at communication regarding ongoing medical problems ($4750.54 to date within the first 14mos of purchase). The breeder only responded by blocking me on her facebook page. My dog had a LARGE and painful 1.5cm stone in her tiny bladder which took many months to resolve before considering surgery, and then recurrent UTI's and then an enlarged heart within the first 14 mos of my purchase of her. All veterinary reports were sent to her to prove this and yet there was still no response of apology, sympathy, nor empathy. Upon requesting a prior medical history before purchase, the breeder sent them to me after name-calling and bullying text messages. I found this reaction and lack of response shocking, uncaring, unprofessional, disrespectful and unacceptable. 4)The breeder initially told me her adult dogs were ONLY bred twice before selling them as young adults. My dog's prior medical records indicated a c-section at a young age of 2 yrs and a post-op muzzle for anxiety and pain, and then subsequent artificial insemination every 6-8 months of her first 4yrs of life. It is no wonder my behavior therapist for dogs said she was the most anxious and frightened dog she had ever met for being an AKC dog. This was an additional $2000 for behavior therapy that remains ongoing. These actions constitute a series of unethical behaviors, which are unacceptable for a breeder claiming to be of good merit with the AKC. With this sequence of events, it would have been more appropriate for the breeder to compensate me something or at least minimally charge me (and other clients) for RESCUING her adult dogs rather than charging $2000 for a 4+ yr old retired female after multiple artificial insemination breeding. I was made aware of several other buyers who got dogs with very similar behavioral problems, and also early onset spinal problems. I am writing this to hopefully help future dachshunds and let this breeder know that she needs to improve her practice ethics and take care of her adult dachshunds better. I would not have gone to these measures of writing a review to caution other buyers if the breeder would have communicated kindly to my messages and at least provided empathy and some form of compensation for the high veterinary bills and the behavior therapy. read more

She is sweet, easy to train, well-behaved, intelligent, most fabulous dispositioned pup on the planet. I intend to get another. Oh! Definitely not worth going here! We scheduled a trail ride in April, paid then, and unfortunately had to cancel because of a family emergency. They were unable to refund, which is completely fine, because they said we had 6 months to use the time to do the trail ride another time. We spoke to Kelly about a reschedule, and we agreed on a reschedule for today at 10:30am. We come and Kelly was extremely unprofessional with us and stated that she never recalls us rescheduling for that day and time. Her body language, tone, and attitude was really poor as my mother and I were trying to work the situation out. She was completely unprofessional, unprepared, and unorganized. Highly , Highly recommend!!! I Had the opportunity and Fabulous experience to stay at Splendor farms and bed and breakfast this past weekend ! We Rode the horses Saturday and Sunday mornings . One day we went to the lake trail and today the forest trail . Since it rained Saturday night we got some big areas of shallow water on the forest trail and it was the most fun to cross the water on the horses and Both trail rides were beautiful and serene , e joying nature to the max . All horses were well behaved . My horse Snickers was the best and tried to be the leader but responded quickly to Kyle and my directions in keeping behind Kyles lead . Kyle and Elyse ( sp? ) were terrific guides , patient and knowledgeable for our trail rides . The farm is beautiful , and large . On the farm you can see many animals , beautiful horses, a baby foal , a few goats , mules and dachshund dogs , and o saw wild rabbits . We stood both nights in the cabin across the road which was so welcoming , quaint , roomy with a full stocked kitchen , computer , tv and all needed amenities . The cabin had a roomy enclosed porch , pond and private jacuzzi . There was a beautiful pool across the road and the other rooms for renters to use . Kelly the owner was quick to address our needs , welcome us and share the use of her beautiful farm in the country , away from the bustle of the big city . I Can't wait to go back again and ride the trails with other friends / groups and hopefully stay as a guest again at their accommodations. I've had 2 completely different experiences with Splendor Farms, and both have been fantastic. The first was when I took my third grade class on a field trip. Amazing experience for kids! The second was the horse camp. My 9 year old daughter who had zero experience with horses wanted to attend camp. It was well run, the kids were very well supervised, and my daughter learned a tremendous amount. It was an experience she wouldn't get any place else. My dad and I visited splendor farms right before getting to New Orleans. He found a groupon for 50$ for 2 hour rides so we figured why not! I hadn't been riding in forever and remember it being a blast. The website can be a little deceiving. When you pull up to the farm, you don't think you're at the right place. It's just a house with fenced in areas for the horses and a lot of land but once you find someone they will direct you. There were a ton of horses! You can go up and pet them as you wait and just walk around and explore the farm for a bit. The guide, Maddie, tells you which horse to get on. I was a little hesitant because yore just told to get on and not being familiar with horseback riding it's a little scary! But she tells you the different ways to control the horse and then you can ride around in the fence to practice. We did the 2 hour ride so we went into the woods for the first hour and then the second hour was to a small lake. I enjoyed the second hour much more because it was more open fields and more to look at. The woods part was a little confined and the horse kept walking really close to trees making me hit them! It also had just rained a lot so we were going through a ton of swampy, wet areas. Overall I enjoyed myself and it was fun to get back on a horse! The 2 hour ride might have been a bit much, I would have been fine with just 1. You don't realize how much it hurts sitting in the saddles for so long! read more

On June 30, 2014, I took my family to Splendor Farms in Bush, LA. The following is a true and accurate statement of our experiences during our stay... My children wanted to go horseback riding and after searching the internet, they found the website for Splendor Farms in Bush, LA. I went online and researched and found many negative reviews and also positive reviews about this place... I was to find out later that the positive reviews must have been left by friends and family of Splendor Farms or by the management itself. That being said, I will now DETAIL this "All Inclusive" experience: THE STENCH From the moment I opened my truck door until after I left, my nostrils were filled with the aroma of fresh squeezed feces. If you enjoy the smell of animal dung, this is the place for you! BREAKFAST When we found this place online, it was advertised as a bed and breakfast. The "breakfast" that we got was muffins wrapped in cellophane, three yogurts, juice, and three apples located in a mini fridge next to a disgusting toilet that would not flush...LITERALLY RIGHT NEXT TO THE NASTY BROKEN TOILET. POOL AREA The pool was filthy. There was not only a lot of debris floating in the pool, but also swimming bugs, and worse of all, dead frogs floating in the pool. To top off this "experience" the biting flies and mosquitoes were so bad that we could not spend more than 10 minutes out there before we had to go inside. "PETTING ZOO" This is NOT like any petting zoo I have ever been too. The ground was "Slip-n-slide sloppy" and muddy, the animals were covered in mud and dirt and biting flies. The "zoo" as it is described on their website consists of a few goats, sheep, and two ponys...one of which bit my 10 year old daughter and drew blood. Once again, the owner shrugged this off with the, "you ARE on a farm" excuse. THE PUPPY FARM We were not allowed to go into the pen with the puppies unless we...and I quote..."are prepared to pay $1500 in case one gets hurt" because she said, her puppies are special and that is what she sells them for. Nice attitude. Now, although the puppy area was clean, the place where they keep the adult dogs they breed was atrocious. The SPCA should make a surprise inspection....don't worry, I called them. NASTY ATTITUDE OF THE OWNER Kelly Bensabat...what can I say about this "lovely" woman? All of us...including my children, were made to feel as if we were intruding on her property. Her permanent scowl made my children want to stay in the room because they were afraid that she would yell at them. Picture the woman in the beginning of the Wizard Of OZ that took Toto away...Almira Gulch...THAT IS HOW THIS WOMAN ACTS. Although we have never met in person--but I plan to visit one day!--I have known Kelly for 4 years. My family has 3 dachshunds from her, my boyfriend has one, and I am getting my own red boy next week. I would not keep reaching out to her if I didn't think she was a competent as well as responsible breeder and person. She has always been punctual with answering my questions via email, as well as kind and genuine on the phone; she even called me to let me know the availability of my puppy because she knew I have a thing for standards, which I found very personable--she wants her babies to go to the right people. The passion she has for what she does shows in my dogs. They all have intoxicating personalities and gorgeous coats. My dogs are my closest companions, and my heart is full from all the dachshunds that Kelly has raised so wonderfully. To whomever reads this, please take the nasty reviews with a heavy grain of salt. There are people in this world who are sad, angry individuals who are never satisfied with anything; and those who don't understand the value of great service and complain and slander when it's not as cheap as they wanted. I will definitely be making the trip down for my next dog after my red guy. First off I ordered a Chocolate, Long Haired, MINIATURE female. I love my dog. She's an amazing creature and I do believe that her pedigree is legit. But I paid extra money for a miniature puppy that is clearly a full size. To top this off. Three days before I left for Louisiana (she will not ship you a puppy...you have to go pick it up or pay her to escort)...she informs me that the dog is $200 more than she quoted. A proper business person would have eaten the cost. But nope...I paid the extra money for a miniature and got a full size. This dog is twice the size of my two miniature dachshunds. Don't do it. We purchased our first female long haired dachshund in March of 2016. She has been the light of my life and is the most sweetest thing on earth. In April 2017, we are picking up another long haired dachshund puppy. We have had a great experience with Kelly. She was very informative about the breed and gave us advice on how to care for her. My husband and I bought a LivingSocial voucher for a 2-hour trail ride for two at Splendor Farms. We used our voucher in early June, at 10am, with 4 other people and two guides in our group. We had a lovely time, the horses were healthy and well-behaved (not semi-comatose as some other trail rides' horses have been) and it was obvious that they are very well cared for. We enjoyed ourselves a lot, feel we got a great deal for the money, and will definitely be back for another trail ride at Splendor Farms. read more

June 18, 2015 Update on Snickers Got a call from the vet on Tues night. After 8 weeks and multiple medications, she is clear of giardia. ( she tested positive 3 times ) Needless to say, I am relieved at the least. Her inner ear infection is being treated with meds ( now going on 4 weeks)- The mass was so deep in her ear canal, we literally had to keep softening it with meds until vet could flush it out. Poor little thing..she is still on meds just in case there is still an infection I got a email from breeder last night, attacking me personally, calling me every name in the book and asserting that because of her 30 year paralegal experience and because her husband is an attorney, she will sue me in federal court for slander. I expected this from the breeder. This is not the first time she has victimized herself in this situation. It has nothing to do about the puppy , the truth and the facts. She accused me of making mountain out of a mole hill.. Really ?? if you don' t take my complaint about a sick pup for 8 weeks , accruing over $1200 in vet bills with multiple visits to the vet and infecting my other dog with fleas....WHAT do you take seriously? So this is NOW ACCEPTABLE BREEDING? Sending a pup back with me that has giardia, fleas, tapeworm hookworm and an inner ear infection??? I know in CA we take these things very seriously... In the final analysis, those that had positive experiences with this breeder will stand behind her My experience was far from that IF YOU ARE THINKING OF PURCHASING A PUP FROM SPLENDOR FARMS MAKE SURE YOU READ HER PUPPY APPLICATION VERY CAREFULLY - AS THIS BECOMES YOUR FINAL CONTRACT. Got a fantastic deal for a trail riding package on Groupon for my Husband's birthday. Ended up going for the weekend with friends for my birthday. We had so much fun riding that we decided to go again the next day at full price before heading home. There really is so much to do in the area. What a wonderful weekend get away. The owner Kelly was very personable and friendly. The staff were all young but incredibly patient and willing to answer any of our many questions. The trail itself was very peaceful and serene. I see mixed reviews here on Yelp about Splendor Farms, and I'm truly disheartened by the negative ones. They really make me wonder if these people have ANY idea about Daschaunds or if they just wanted a "novelty weiner-dog"! My fiancée and I drive from Florida to Bush, LA, 13 hours each way, over a 2 day weekend, to pick up our new pup, Oliver. He is a long haired mini-daschaund. He is amazing! Kelly was SO thorough, she spent about 45 minutes just discussing the care that our new pup would need, despite the fact that she had B&B customers patiently waiting for her! We are SO pleased with Oliver, he came to us 100% crate trained, and hasn't had a mistake yet, in the two months we've had him! He has gained weight appropriately and our vet is absolutely impressed with him. In fact, the entire staff at our vet's office have never seen such a beautiful dog, and it's obvious to us they're not just saying it. We already have a Daschaund named Finnigan who is 3 years old, and the two of them took to each-other immediately! It is true, her place doesn't look like a PetSmart, so if that's what you're expecting don't bother, but also realize that when you go to PetSmart half the fish are floating belly up in the tank, and the "sales associates" at just that... They don't know anything other than their "department", and that just means they know where things are located, if even... Kelly is SO down to earth and SO in love with each and every litter she raises! She INDIVIDUALLY crate trains every puppy, that is a HUGE task if you think about it, but she really does it, and you'd truly believe your puppy was the only one she had to train! This place was great. My husband and I stayed for a weekend get away. We stayed in a room in the main house. The breakfast was great and Kelly was very accommodating (I don't eat wheat and my hubby hates eggs). The trail rides were fun. The animals are impeccably kept. Kelly really loves and cares for her animals. We brought our kayak and drove just a few miles down the road to use at the Pearl River canal. The pool was clean although we didn't have time to use it. The staff was friendly and helpful. We plan on visiting again with the kids. We may also send them to the horse camp. If you like animals and farm life, this is the place for you! read more

My wife and I visited Splendor Farms to stay in the cabin, have breakfast and take a trail ride on the horses. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by two of the friendliest dogs - made us feel quite welcome. We checked in with Kelly and everything was smooth and easy. We got settled in our cabin and took a walk throughout the property, checking out the animals, gardens, etc. It was very peaceful and nice. We drove in to Covington for dinner that evening. The next morning we had a wonderful fresh-cooked breakfast, fresh coffee and fruit and great conversation with the other guests and Kelly. Afterwards Maddie took us on an hour-long trail ride with the horses. Everything was peaceful and easy going. One of the most relaxing weekends we have had in a LONG time. Update on Charlie: he is now allergic to something and scratching crazily! When I sent an email to the owner Kelly I never heard back. I WAS NOT ASKNG FOR ANY MONETARY RESOLUTION but simply relaying my thoughts and concerns for future breeding. Well, to say the least, I never heard back from her. Don't get me wrong, she truly cares for her doxies but it seems her realm of control on breeding is getting jaded and further stretched. I always thought Splendor Farms was an exclusive miniature doxie kennel. I think she has brought too many other sizes into the mix and we got a 17 pounder instead of a 12 pounder. Live and learn!!!! Fabulous, again!!! What's fabulous about Splendor Farms is; that nothing is "over the top",(Except for the Eggs Bennedict, and Huevos Rancheros). No, ladies and gentlemen...this is not a day spa where your every whim is catered to. Genuine farm. Genuine people who love and care for animals. Genuine bed and breakfast. Is it perfect? Probably not...But it just so happens to be the perfect little get-away for "city-folk",like my wife and myself. Not so far so as to be out of touch with everything; but if you're looking for a reprieve from the "hustle and bustle", of city life, I highly recommend this little gem. Kelly is an awesome host. My husband and I took my son to visit Kelly's farm. We were specifically interested in the petting zoo. When we arrived (with a reservation) there was only one girl (that we saw). We asked her where to go for our petting zoo reservation and she explained that she wasn't sure as it was her first day. We followed the "check in" signs in hopes to speak to someone that could help us. There Kelly told us we were in the wrong spot (which we knew but needed someone to help us) and after questioning us about where we parked she walked us to the petting zoo and directed us back to the new employee (Jessie). She then proceeds to tell Jessie that she will have to do our petting zoo tour/visit and attempts to tell her what to do. At this point we felt like we were intruding and felt very uncomfortable so we walked to the stable (just steps away from them). Kelly walks in the stable and very rudely tells us "Um, you can't just walk around here, we have livestock." Kelly leaves us with Jessie and says she has phone calls to make. Jessie walked us through our petting zoo experience as best she could struggling to find feed or know exactly what was excepted of her. I have to say I was impressed with the kindness and knowledge Jessie provided but I did feel bad that she was thrown into doing something she had never even been shown how to do...now even once. The owner criticized Jessie in front of us more than once and while we were in the arena doing my sons horse ride Kelly, from her golf cart, yells towards us, "Its $20 for a petting zoo visit." Yet another example of her extremely rude and unprofessional attitude the owner displayed. Not to mention there was no option to bottle feed goats like falsely advertised on the website. We were even allowed in the gate with the goats/sheep. We had to feed them through the gate. We drove almost 2 hours for this experience and we were extremely underwhelmed, to say the least. We will not recommend this place to any of our friends and we will not return. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Splendor Farms Dachshunds. I had to put my two dachshunds down (ages 13 & 15) and was so lonely that I soon began the search for another one. I found Kelly on the internet through another breeder. I was so impressed that she would not ship her dogs and that unless it was going to be shown had to be spayed or neuterd. This clearly showed me a very careful breeder who is interested only in the well being of her animals and the breed. We flew from Tampa to Bush, LA and stayed 2 nights at the B&B in order to bond with Ava before bringing her home. After all, taking a 6 year old dog from the only home she has known could be traumatic for the dog. Ava has turned out to be the perfect dog for me. She is first of all a gorgeous blue and tan piebald, and secondly has the perfect disposition. And to top it off, she does not bark which is not in keeping with the Dachshund tradition! She accompanies me to work every day and makes everyone smile. I check in with Kelly to keep her updated on Ava and to let her know she made a good choice in allowing me to adopt her. I have had her 2 1/2 years and am very pleased with her. If you are looking to purchase a quality pup this is the place to go. read more

My oldest daughter did the week long horse day-camp here a few years ago and loved it. They also have the B&B, which I hear is great- if your into that. I grew up about 5 mins away, so I never needed that option. The owner is nice and her animals were all friendly. She takes you to another location a few mins away to do the horse back riding trails and we had a blast. read more

Kelly is a great host and an even better at puppies and her kennel. I purchased a puppy from Kelly in Nov 2013 and also stayed at her bed n breakfast. Her puppies are great and so well mannered. Kelly cares a great deal about who gets her puppies and how her puppies are treated. There was one of her dogs taken to a shelter that she reached out to her previous puppy buyers for help and I was able to help save this puppy from the shelter for Kelly and send her back home to Kelly where she is currently really happy. I was happy to have purchased such a wonderful breed from Kelly and also to be able to help her get one of her puppies back was the greatest feeling in the world. read more

This B & B was superb! clean facility, friendly farm animals, quiet, peaceful, relaxing. it was the perfect get away for my family and I from a busy stressful lifestyle. Mrs. Kelly amazes me at how she does it with this place. the animals are well kept, the grounds are well kept, the gourmet breakfast is sensational! my daughter became particularly attached to the baby goat. the dip in the pool was very comfortable and relaxing the trail ride was nice as well and yes be expected to pay taxes upon leaving! Really people, have you gone all your lives without paying taxes! so what is everyone barking about on Trip advisor, Google and yelp! its called LIFE! deal with it! and yes there is a weight limit on the horses IF YOU KNOW that you weight more than the max limit which is 250 then WHY go through the drama of embarrassing yourself when you get there! Mrs. Kelly is super sweet and she speaks her mind. there is NOTHING wrong with that. myself my family and other guests were more than comfortable here this past weekend and were very well attended to and taken care of. we will DEFINITLY return! don't visit if you don't like the country life is all I have to say! The different b & b rooms are well kept, fresh linens, satellite tv in each room. clean restroom facilities, its so nice... even a clean class and a mint by each night stand. you can t get better than this unless you stay at a fancy hotel! read more

I can only speak to the dog breeding part of this business. A year ago, I put $100 deposit on a red LH puppy. At the time, there were 2 pregnant females that had what Kelly told me was an excellent chance of delivering reds within a couple weeks. When I spoke with her, she was very curt and gave me the attitude that I was bothering her by asking any questions. She kept interrupting me saying that she was very busy and she was currently at the post office, having a bad experience with a postal worker. Just fill out an application and send in my deposit to get on the list. I get that we all have bad days, but I thought it poor business etiquette for her to complain about her bad day, while trying to make arrangements to spend upwards of $1000 on one of her puppies! I should have followed my instincts to not do business with her. That is my fault. I sent in a deposit anyway, as she seemed confident that there would be a red puppy very soon. By watching the website, I knew that both of those dogs delivered their puppies, of which not a single one was a red.Two months after I gave my deposit, with still no contact from Kelly, I emailed her inquiring as to when she thought there would be a red puppy available. She emailed me back that she had no idea; that she had no control over what color puppies these dogs would have. I told her that I had thought I would have one by then, which is why I got myself on the list in the first place. She offered me a red puppy that some friend of hers had, with no further information at all. I declined, as I had chosen Splendor Farms, and not a "friend of hers" for a puppy I knew nothing about. I waited another 3 1/2 months to hear from Kelly, when I found and bought a beautiful red puppy elsewhere. I was aware that the SF application form states that the deposit was non refundable, but I was led to believe that since I wanted a red, my chances were excellent to get one from her sometime within at least a 6 month period as I was one of the first on the list for that color pup. I emailed Kelly (remember, this was a week shy of 6 months being on the waiting list without a single word from her). I asked her if she would please refund my deposit, as it had been 6 months already, and she had no signs of breeding to produce a red puppy in the near future. I explained to her that I felt there should be a time limit on waiting for her to produce the puppies, and asked her how long I should be expected to wait. I got a very short and rude email back from her stating that "deposits are not refundable". That's it. If you desire a specific color puppy (which is why Kelly has a color-specific waiting list) be prepared to wait what could be a year for it. However, at this point, I would not ever do business with Kelly, as she was very rude and seems disengaged in her breeding business. My guess is she makes a lot of money on "non refundable" deposits while not caring very much if she delivers what people are laying their $100 down on. read more
