I explained that I had spots before due to a cataract, but this was absolutely different. I was directed to the nurse and I left a message. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon, I realize that no one had gotten back to me and that they closed at four . I called again. Spoke to the same receptionist again. Although her customer service was basic, her attention to detail was poor. I was pretty upset so she said that she would speak to the doctor. I have no idea if she did or not. Long story short I was directed to go to the emergency room if it got worse if not, I could see them the following Tuesday or Thursday. I ended up going to the emergency room at 9 PM and they sent me via ambulance to UC Davis. I had a complete detached retina and a few other complications. I was told by the emergency room doctor and also by a doctor that I spoke with at UC Davis that had I waited, I could have completely lost my vision. The next week I called the office and asked to speak to the office manager. I was told first that he was out sick, then I was told that he was at lunch, and then I was told he went home for the day. I actually left two messages for him. To this day I have never received a phone call back from anyone. To add insult to injury, I received a phone call back from the nurse on the following Monday. She stated I should get a hold of the front office and let them know that I needed an appointment. Again, no urgency. It was obvious that they did not communicate with one another. I understand that I am certainly not the only patient but this was a true emergency. In the past, I have had amazing care at this office. I saw Dr. Chen for years and have great respect for him and his son. I am highly disappointed that I have not received a phone call back and that no one actually cared that I was literally going blind. I would recommend UC Davis, Eye Center for any issues that anyone has. In closing, I will not be returning to this office . I am only sharing this in hopes that they may actually listen to the next patient with this or any other issue. I scheduled an appointment to do a comprehensive eye exam, as it's been over a year since doing one. Upon check-in, I had to complete several pages of my medical history prior to being taken to the back. Thankfully, filling out the paperwork did not take too long whatsoever. The staff member who assisted me for the majority of the visit was Tanisha. Tanisha displayed nothing but a positive attitude and was extremely helpful from start to finish. Veronica also helped me out briefly, and she provided a pleasant level of care and customer service. Finally, I was greeted by the ophthalmologist - Soungmin Cho, M.D. What I appreciated the most was his thoroughness, professionalism, and reassurance about my eyes. He indicated that he didn't find anything concerning, which was such a huge positive thing to hear. Dr. Cho also provided helpful tips for maintaining my overall eye health. Glasses were not imperative and an absolute need for my situation, though they were still offered. I proceeded to order glasses anyway, just in case my eyes don't want to cooperate in some moments. The brand of the glasses I ordered was by Michael Kors. The frames are absolutely gorgeous and I'm in love with them. The glasses were ready for pick up on Wednesday, 04/08/26. I was not able to pick them up successfully until Tuesday, 04/28/26, due to my demanding schedule. Overall, the entire appointment regarding eye care was straightforward and an easy process. I had a lovely, incredible experience from the hospitality of the staff members/doctor to the quality of the glasses. I highly recommend coming here for quality patient care and vision needs.
