It was, in a word, fantastic. First off-the service. The gentleman who attended our table was delightful. Patient in explaining the dishes, his favorites (which we ordered), and just a great sense of humor and kindness about him. Next, and importantly, the food was amazing. We had the Stonbass and the Turbot with potatoes and a mixed salad. Grilled to perfection, fresh as could be. The meal was so good. My partner had the lemon meringue (after the pastry chef suggested it). Light and lovely. It was a great meal. A great spot. A great staff. We could not have asked for more. Neither could you. Do it!

And veggie soup along with algarvian salad for me. Prices were very reasonable. And quality of food was fantastic. Service was impressive. The best part of our entire dining experience was the kind beautiful smile and expert service by the young woman with beautiful black braids. Her name may have been Erika (she's expecting also). What a gem of an employee and definitely an asset to this restaurant. All in all a great lunch at a traditional Sagres family restaurant!!

We got there right at 6 and they gave us one of only 2 remaining tables, telling us we had to be done by 7:30pm. We started with prosciutto & melon which was AMAZING!!!!! And reminded us of Italy. My children got the house style spaghetti which was a cream sauce with tomatoes and ham. Neither kid could get enough! The pasta was soooo tasty. My husband and I shared the Mixed Catalana for 2 - prawns and clams. It was the best meal we had during our almost 2 week trip to Portugal. The broth was so delicious I could've drank it with my spoon. It was loaded with veggies too. Came with white rice on the side and some fried potatoes. Also my husband got a glass of house red wine which was a very generous pour! They only take cash, which we did not know ahead of time. But luckily there's an ATM across the street. They turned tons of people away while we were eating. I guess their system is reservation only from 5:30-7:30pm and then after 7:30pm they allow walks in on a first come, first serve basis.

It is a small restaurant so you don't go there for the ambiance! It is a family run business.. The chef, his wife, son and son's girlfriend... They work so... well together and are extremely kind. It's best to make reservations as the wait is hideous if you don't. Best restaurant ever!

Lota is good for groups and families, wielding picnic style benches, quick service, and affordable prices. But make sure to bring cash! We couldn't believe our eyes at some of the prices (pâté for only 0,6€?? squid for 11,50€??), but quickly learned that this was because the pâté came in a little peel-pack, and the sangria tasted like artificial strawberry juice. However, spend wisely and you will get full. The fish is mostly grilled, with minimal marination or fuss but it does taste pretty fresh. We were brought boiled potatoes and salad to accompany our meal which was a nice balance to the meal. Everything came out pretty quickly and it seemed like the vibe was to get diners in and out just as efficiently. No one was rude per se, but the staff very clearly were just waiting for their shift to be over so they could close up. Despite how convenient this eatery is, it probably wouldn't be on my places to return to when I'm back in Lagos.
