The food is really good here! We grabbed dinner at Tecalitlan last Monday while in New Rochelle. Three of us sat at one of the tables. It looks like mainly a takeout spot with many locals stopping in, but there were a couple of dine-in patrons while we were there also. Our waitress was so friendly and hospitable. Good vibes. She greeted us when we entered and took care of us, especially with my husband's dietary needs (vegetarian). We ordered nachos and guacamole to share. I went with enchiladas rojas (chicken). Other orders were enchiladas verde (cheese) and a variety of tacos. We left happy with full bellies. You know a place is good when there are multiple hot sauce options on the table, and they bring out a bunch of squeeze-bottle salsas with your food. Hell yeah, the Yelp reviews were spot on for this place! Great find. My chick, who is the biggest Mexican food snob had only praises for the place. As for me, all I can say is that everything was fresh, well made, simple, and authentic. We got a few kinds of tacos, a burrito, and these deep fried thin rolled corn tortillas filled with chicken and everything was out of this world. Service was great. Our waitress was really fast and quite friendly to. When our kid dropped her pacifier she grabbed it off the floor and washed it for us without flinching. Also, the cook came out to have a chat and she couldn't have been nicer. Apparently the family that owns the place makes everything from scratch on site. Pretty cool. I should mention that there are only 3 or 4 tables, so if you go during prime time there will probably be a wait. Also, it's cash only! Really amazing food! Went there last night with wife, daughter and mother-in-law and had a wonderful dining experience. Had a variety of dishes and tacos and everything was freshly made and utterly delicious. Had enough leftovers to bring home for another meal the next day. Small restaurant, only three tables inside there but the server is very friendly and attentive. Street parking isn't that bad in front of the restaurant in around the corner. Finally!!!! I have been looking for authentic Mexican for ages and this is really it! Forget all the fancy places in the city and the tired suburban sprawlers. This place is small and the real deal. You might be intimidated at first with not knowing what to order and the language barrier, however they are most helpful and will make you comfortable. I had three tacos which was plenty filling. I was very excited to check this place out and probably I had high expectations but this place was a big disappointment for me - it is small but still cute. The problem is that we were frozen to death in this place, after the dinner leaving with red nose and ice cold feet I understand they were using AC...In February. The food looked better than it tasted, it was surprisingly bland. My question is why all food arrived cold. Wasn't it microwaved long enough?! Came here for dinner with a friend. It's a small restaurant so it's probably better for take out. Also note that parking is pretty bad in this area. We had to circle a couple of times before finding a spot two blocks away. The parking situation doesn't take away from how great the food is. We ordered enchiladas rojas and bistec burrito, horchata to drink as well. While we were waiting for our food the cashier/waitress brought us two soft tacos filled with beans and I'm not sure what else was in them. We doused it in their, what I am assuming, house-made hot sauce. So good! The food really is on point. Both the burrito and enchilada dishes were devoured even though portion size was above average. My enchiladas rojas con pollo came with beans, rice with corn, carrots and peas, and a salad. Enchiladas were crispy and not lacking in flavor (although I did add hot sauce). Total bill for the two entrees and two horchatas was $32. I will definitely return to try their other dishes. Also it's helpful if you know a bit of Spanish as the cashier/waitress doesn't know much English. read more
