We got there around 7 for dinner on a Tuesday. Mesa Maya is a smaller restaurant but very quaint. Traditional mom and pop vibes. I will say the tables, chairs, and menus were a bit sticky/dirty which made us a bit skeptical of the experience. It was also really dark in there. There was one other couple and 5 empty tables when we arrived. However, by the time we were leaving an hour later almost all the tables were filled. The menu wasn't anything exciting so we weren't sure what to order. I had to do a bit of research to see what we wanted to order. We decided to start with chips and guac. The guac was decent, but I expected the chips to have a little more to them. They were super thin and airy. It also would have been better if they were warmed. The stars of the show were the tacos and the red hot sauce. We ordered the barria and the taco fajitas with steak. They were juicy and tender and with the red hot sauce; it was really good. The barria tacos weren't oily or soggy, they were really flavorful. For drinks we order the Passionate Love and Hibis-Kiss margarita. The Passionate Love was delicious, literally reminded us of our time in Cancun. The Hibis-Kiss was okay it tasted more like a strawberry margarita than anything. It was good just not what I expected from what I ordered. I don't think I'll return, would opt for take out of the tacos instead, but I would recommend for a nearby location for decent tacos.

I ordered from uber eats. Food came quickly as well, and was hot. Everything was so flavorful and good! Great portion sizes as well.

After searching in the area for good Mexican food we came across Mesa Maya. Parking was a little difficult on Thursday late afternoon but was able to got one spot on the street a block and a half away. We were greeted warmly by our server. We ordered shrimp 3 meal tacos with fries on the side, also mixed (chicken, beef & shrimp) fajita that comes with rice, beans and guacamole on side. All of the items were delicious. Ambiance was great too with halloween decorations still intact and looks great. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend this place to anyone who is in a mood of good Mexican place.

First time visiting and it definitely won't be my last! This restaurant has been around for about…read moresix years, and I'll admit I had previously dismissed it because it's located in an outer strip of stores where Harmon and Bed Bath & Beyond once were. I truly wish I hadn't--because I was thoroughly impressed with the food, the décor, the service, and the extensive menu. There are so many dishes I want to come back and try. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant impressed us with its vibrant, themed décor and incredibly friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Warm tortilla chips with chunky salsa and glasses of water were brought to our table immediately after we sat down, which was a great start. They have a full-service bar, and while they don't offer frozen cocktails, we honestly didn't miss them. I had a coconut margarita, and my husband enjoyed a passionfruit rum cocktail. He doesn't drink tequila, so I asked if rum could be substituted, and they were more than happy to accommodate. He chose a Tajín rim, while I opted for sugar instead of salt. Both drinks were strong, flavorful, and served in really nice, heavy margarita glasses. We both chose specials from the House Special Grill, and wow--what a great decision. My husband had the skirt steak and jumbo shrimp, served with a creamy corn salsa, and he loved every bite. I ordered the grilled steak with sautéed onions, homemade tortillas, cactus pad (nopales), rice, and beans. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and perfectly prepared. We ended the night on a high note with dessert--one of the best flans I've ever had--paired with a glass of hot Mexican coffee. Absolutely delicious. Amazing food, great drinks, welcoming service, and a fun atmosphere. Highly recommend!

However, I'm happy to report that I dined here recently and had a better experience. Since the time of my initial review, La Casa remained in my periphery - mainly because my parents periodically visited and it was a frequent stop of one of my friends who lives in Bronxville. That being said, I was curious to check out La Casa again - and that opportunity came when my mother chose here to celebrate Mother's Day. La Casa is located just off the main commercial strips. The interior is pretty spacious with a bar towards the front of the restaurant and the main dining room split in two sections. The decor is somewhat under-toned with a cool color scheme and tasteful decor. This is in contrast with other Mexican restaurants that tend to go overboard with the kistch and warm colors. I will say the seats look a little tired, they could use some re-upholstering - and were a little lower to the ground than I expected. In addition to the indoor space, they have an outdoor section which was done up very nicely. The brunch menu contained a selection of apps, sides, quesadillas, tacos, and sides. We decided to start by splitting a few apps: brisket and al pastor tacos, a quesadilla, street corn, chips and guac, and more guac with tuna. All the apps were tasty - the biggest standouts for me were the quesadilla and the tacos which were all generously filled and had good flavor. For my main, I got the camarones a la diabla which were shrimp in a red pepper sauce placed atop beans and paired with bok choy. The dish was pretty good - the shrimp could have been a bit snappier, but I appreciate that they de-shelled them and the sauce and beans worked well with them. Dare I say the bok choy was the star of the dish? It had just enough flavor and added a needed green. We opted for dessert, and I got the grilled pineapple which was paired with (per the menu) vanilla ice cream or guanabana sorbet. I wasn't asked to choose, and was served the sorbet. I would have liked to have been given the option, but maybe that's all they had - fwiw the sorbet was good. The pineapple was candied and came as a large, thick ring - definitely needed a knife and fork to cut it up (which they provided); this was a good dish in concept but I think it can be executed better. Service was good, everyone was friendly and efficient. In my experience, service tends to be the weakest component of a meal on a holiday, but they did a great job. Overall, I had a good experience at La Casa. Even though it's not in my backyard, I would definitely return if the opportunity presented itself.

Everything felt watery, and while I understand that some locations may cater to people who prefer milder food with more moisture, it just didn't work for me. I had the beef birria. The texture was all right, but it was very saucy without much kick. It honestly tasted more like a generic meat filling rather than something with the bold flavor I'd normally associate with birria. The rice was forgettable, there were a lot of chips, and the drinks were okay. This was just an average spot. I wouldn't come back unless they made some noticeable improvements. Maybe if you're tired and just need a quick pit stop, it could work as a one-time group experience.
