The delivery took a little longer than the estimated time, but once I took that first bite, I completely forgot about it. I ordered the birria tacos and they were so good. The tortillas were soft with just the right amount of crisp, giving that perfect texture. The beef was incredibly well-marinated--so tender it practically felt like it would fall off the bone if there was one. Delicious freshly prepared Birria beef tacos with rice and beans! Came here after listening to a band performing at Tara's bar across the street. It was after midnight and the food came out quickly after I ordered. But not before I had a shot of tequila and a delicious Mexican beer I hadn't tried before called "Victoria" (see pics for the label on the bottle) Service was good! We got there around 7 for dinner on a Tuesday. Mesa Maya is a smaller restaurant but very quaint. Traditional mom and pop vibes. I will say the tables, chairs, and menus were a bit sticky/dirty which made us a bit skeptical of the experience. It was also really dark in there. There was one other couple and 5 empty tables when we arrived. However, by the time we were leaving an hour later almost all the tables were filled. The menu wasn't anything exciting so we weren't sure what to order. I had to do a bit of research to see what we wanted to order. We decided to start with chips and guac. The guac was decent, but I expected the chips to have a little more to them. They were super thin and airy. It also would have been better if they were warmed. The stars of the show were the tacos and the red hot sauce. We ordered the barria and the taco fajitas with steak. They were juicy and tender and with the red hot sauce; it was really good. The barria tacos weren't oily or soggy, they were really flavorful. For drinks we order the Passionate Love and Hibis-Kiss margarita. The Passionate Love was delicious, literally reminded us of our time in Cancun. The Hibis-Kiss was okay it tasted more like a strawberry margarita than anything. It was good just not what I expected from what I ordered. I don't think I'll return, would opt for take out of the tacos instead, but I would recommend for a nearby location for decent tacos. read more

So I came here last night, 3/25 with a friend. I ordered the shrimp taco, and the taco maya- chicken. And I don't know what they put in the food or if something was not prepared clean. But after I got home I have been having diarrhea, non stop all night into today 3/26. It's soo bad. After searching in the area for good Mexican food we came across Mesa Maya. Parking was a little difficult on Thursday late afternoon but was able to got one spot on the street a block and a half away. We were greeted warmly by our server. We ordered shrimp 3 meal tacos with fries on the side, also mixed (chicken, beef & shrimp) fajita that comes with rice, beans and guacamole on side. All of the items were delicious. Ambiance was great too with halloween decorations still intact and looks great. I no longer recommend this business. I haven't ordered in a while because my pick up experience was very poor the last time using doordash pick up. I ordered two fried calamari, 3 steak taco, shrimp taco and flan. Because when i ordered doordash it suppose pick up estimated 7:05 pm. It constantly said preparing. At 730 i decided to go get it. Lo and behold my bag was on table waiting for pickup. Mesa never clicked to inform me that its ready for pickup. Calamari was so bad, tasted microwaved not crispy. It had a funny taste to it I lost my appetite. Steak tacos was dry and cold. Shrimp taco cold. Your taking a risk if you order for pickup. Maybe you get lucky and they update. Not me. Never again. Lost a customer here. In the beginning the food used to taste so good. Lately it's gone south. It used to be fresh everything. I feel like last few times they were not fresh. No Negra allowed ... only Spanish is welcomed here ... my first visit was great I met the owner sat down at the bar he even made me a special dish with spice and herbs .. but three months after everything went downhill ... 2nd visit the bartender told us we wasn't sitting anymore but they close in 3hours told me and my wife it's only take out ... 15 minutes waiting outside two Spanish couples walk in sit immediately.. I should have greet the host with Que lo Que maybe I would get some type of respect.. 3rd visit I went back to see maybe it was just that person or that day that I was rejected full service .. but then I asked to be seated again and was told the bar is close but it was a full boxing event going on ... but yet again three "Spanish " individuals walk up and sit down and start to party .. I went with a group of girl friends and it felt like we were being rushed. The server had an attitude from the start. Didn't come over to ask if we needed anything. At the beginning, she asked if we were going to split the bill or would we pay in one bill. I haven't had Mexican food in awhile where the meat itself is so flavorful. The ONLY reason why I didn't give it a 5 star was because my mother requested white rice as she doesn't eat rice w corn. Decided to try this restaurant for Cinco de Mayo. The place was small but beautifully decorated. They even had custom made chairs with amazing art. Place was clean and staff were really nice and attentive. Drinks were really good. Ordered the coconut frozen margarita and it was delicious! Food was great as well and reasonably priced. Mesa Maya has easily become my go to for Mexican food. It's nice that they have a vegetarian menu which features enchiladas, tacos and fajitas. These entrees are all delicious and I do believe that they have the best rice and beans here. I've also had the Maya shrimp with Mexican rice in both garlic sauce and chipotle sauce. It tastes amazing with the creamy garlic sauce which is a delight over the rice. I highly recommend this restaurant for authentic Mexican eats. Let's talk about the dessert. The flan is creamy and a nice, sweet completion to the meals. It's a good portion and is suitable for sharing. Their churros are fried to perfection and is better than most I've tasted. I didn't like the tres leche cake as much as the other desserts. This is my favorite dessert so I am pretty particular when it comes to reviewing this cake. They had a bar located in the rear of the restaurant. A small one. There menu was full of goodies! We didn't feel like any appetizers, so we just ordered entrees and dessert! Of course they started us off with nachos and salsa! The service was very good. The waitresses were constantly attending to us. My husband ordered the 3 chicken tacos. It came with rice and beans. I had an enchilada. I asked if they could substitute it with cheese instead of chicken. They did. And it was excellent. It also came with rice and beans. The portions were nice size. We were looking for a new place to have dinner and found this lovely family owned Mexican restaurant. The decor is cute- reminiscent of a Mexican restaurant in Mexico, not generic at all. Rich, the host, is lovely and checked in on us frequently. His wife works along with him and his father in law is the chef. I can highly recommend the frozen mango Margaritas- they're one of the best Margaritas that I have ever had. My wife loved it too- she was speaking in tongues after she was halfway done with hers. The food is uniformly excellent, made with care and pride. The ceviche was really good. Rich recommended the chicken enchiladas. They were amazing. There was a depth of flavor to them that is lacking in most other local Mexican food. My wife was equally pleased with her fajitas. The restaurant doesn't have the service dialed in yet. Rich is aware of this and apologized. We weren't in a rush and were having such a good, relaxing meal that we didn't mind.
