As afternoon drifted into evening, the canal bank was overflowing with people but the line at Gros Bao had evaporated. It was time to dine at Gros Bao, just inside the wide open facade that allowed me to people watch from a front row seat. Gros Bao Paris is a fun, casual eatery and it was immediately easy to understand their popularity. Once seated, you order via QR code and food is delivered fresh to your table. Want another dish? Do it again. I'm generally no fan of ordering off a QR code, especially in a sit-down restaurant, but here it seemed to just be part of the experience and I really enjoyed it. Also enjoyed? The food, which I found to be delicious. An assortment of Chinese fare was ordered and I liked everything that arrived at my table. They do have bao, but the menu is also full of all the usual Chinese dishes you know and love. Two of us spent about $75 here for what proved to be a late lunch/early dinner. We left only as the sun was finally starting to sink lower, both declaring that it was a pretty perfect way to end a day spent along Canal St. Martin.

The eggplant hong shao had a nice savory flavor, and the green beans had just enough spice without overwhelming the palate. The charsiu pork and Shanghai noodles were also solid choices, cooked well with good texture. Mango sago was a refreshing way to finish off the meal. One minor drawback, some of the space felt a bit rundown and dirty, which slightly impacted the overall experience. Still, the quality of the dishes and pleasant service makes it worth trying.

It's a small restaurant in Montparnasse, and we fortunately were able to walk right in for an early dinner. They had to pull a table back so we could scoot into a corner booth. The menu is extensive and includes wontons (raviolis), soups, and noodle dishes. Everything looked amazing and the restaurant smelled so good. We ordered the wontons as an appetizer, soup Lamen with beef, soup with shrimp dumplings, lamen with pork and Lamen with beef. We only waited about 8 minutes and steaming hot food was placed in front of us. Our entrees made it out before our appetizer but we didn't mind. Portions were very large and the noodles were chewy, fresh and delicious. We loved every item we ordered. We came back later in the trip to order takeout since the line for tables was so long.
