Have been coming here for years every Sunday. Over the years the portions got smaller (which was okay because we got to know the people and the place). The last visit, appeared on my plate. I discretely told our waitress and she took my food without saying a word, food was not replaced, and I was STILL charged for my food. I then asked the waitress why I was charged for the plate that I returned due to hair being on it. She did not say a word and deducted TWO dollars from my bill. Once I stopped whispering and spoke up about the situation, she rudely took the bill and discounted the plate. Moles Reyes has good food. All items on the menu are delicious. The portions are equal to the price. They work out for as I don't eat much in 1 sitting. Don't expect big portions. First time here at this restaurant! We came here all the way from Orange County because we found that they serve Pipian on their menu. My dad loves Pipian. We both Loved the small mom and pop restaurant that is family owned. Jessica the second to the oldest assisted my dad and I on all our needs, dad bought four pounds of Pipian mole after ordering it for lunch. "Carne de Chango" - literally translates to "Monkey Meat"...of course the prehispanic meal typical of the Catemaco region in Veracruz, Mexico (the southern part of the State) is no longer made with actual monkey meat (FDA probably would not allow it anyway) so pork is usually used as a subsititute...but the preparation, care and taste is definitely really "old school" (Like before Europeans showed up in the Western World old school)...Chef Rocio Camacho (of Moles La Tia and La Huasteca fame) uses guava leaves and sugar cane leaves while smoking the meat over charcoals, giving the pork a distinct smokey and sweet flavor which she finishes on the grill...the name alone should intrigue you but the taste will keep you coming back to try the rest of the menu at this obscure location. It brought me back to try the salmon with salsa de gusano (that is a worm salsa) and the carne de ternera (veal) with a green mole (The Moles with Chef Rocio are fantastic - as anyone that has tried her recipes at the other locations can attest) - the great thing about her menu is you can decide on your choice of meats and choice of moles to create your personal combination - one of my favorites being the Moles de Los Dioses (huitlacoche or corn smut based mole) over a filet mignon...but you really can't go wrong with any of her homemade and fresh moles Her nopales (cactus salad) marinated in olive oil and sprinkled with fresh Mexican cheese was wiped out in the blink of an eye, partly by picking at it with a fork and partly in a taco and some table salsa, so comforting. Her guacamole "Diosa Sangre Ardiente" (Boiling Blood Godess) was incredible...she adds passion fruit and habanero peppers giving the guacamole a slightly sweet and tarty start with a little heat on the finish...perfect with the salmon previously mentioned...or just dip a chip or make a taco with the hand made tortillas (always a huge plus). If you are not into the heat then you can order the "Diosa Amorosa" guac which is not spicy at all or the "Diosa Amor Carnal" which has serrano chili as it's spice base (on the medium side of heat). The "Tres Soles Empanadas" is a perfect way to try three different types of empanadas; one stuffed with hutilacoche, another with flor de calabaza and the third a potosina style empanada. Mixiote de Borrego - is a dish typically wrapped in the skin of the maguey plant (yes the same plant used to make Mescales - including tequila) and then baked in an pit barbecue or conventional oven - this particular dish is made with lamb, but pork and chicken are sometimes used - just not on her menu, she uses lamb and I'm not complaining. The taste of this dish as I described it to Javier C. is "Barbirriaish" (a combination of flavors from a hearty and spice of the birria and the smokiness of a barbacoa) Caldo de Piedra - is a soup where all the ingredients are cooked together with the use of a red-heated rock (piedra in Spanish) - hers contains veggies, fish, shrimp and my favorite, octupus. All items are cooked perfectly with the use of the heated rock with the exception of a very nice piece of octupus, this piece being a little to tough, probably needing a little slapping around ala Sushi Chef to tenderize it before cooking it. There are three queso fundidos (fondue type cheese) dishes I will have to keep going back to try them all. Have tried her aguas frescas (fresh ades) of nopal and chia (prickly pear pads and chia seeds) and guayaba and fresa (guava and strawberries) are very refreshing and not too sweet. Her horchata with semillas de calabaza (roasted pumpkin seeds) and tuna (prickly pear) is fantastic. Although the location is obscure it does have it's own parking lot right across the street from the restaurant if none can be found on the street. Next for me will be the breakfast choices that are out of the norm, of course there are your typical dishes like nopales and huevos, huevos a la Mexicana but the ones the seem interesting are the "Chilaquiles en Salsa de Flor de Calabaza" and the "Rabo de Mestiza, Huevos Pochado en Salsa de Jitomate y Rajas de Chile Poblano". Also on deck will be the "Gorditas de Barbacoa" and the "Salbute Yucateco". Stop by and be surprised by Chef Rocio Camacho's food and be delighted by her passion for prehispanic foods, bringing you a different taste of Mexico. So happy to have discovered this quaint restaurant with delicious food at reasonable prices! This is the place for authentic variety of moles and homemade tortillas! My top 3 favorite moles from this place are: mole poblano (red), mole verde (green with pumpkins seeds on top), and their house mole (made from corn fungus). Get the mole sampler and discover your own favorites! Their carne asada ($10.95) and veal filllet ($12.95) were tender and flavorful - can't go wrong with either of these dishes! We were hesitant at first to order the cactus and pineapple smoothie but our waitress highly recommended the drink so we went for it! And, were we glad we did! The combination of cactus and pineapple had a light refreshing sweetness to it and the milk in the drink was effective in toning down the spiciness from their complimentary salsa served with warm homemade tortilla chips. In terms of Mexican food, this place is probably one of the very best that Los Angeles has ever had. Ever. In terms of Mole restaurant; you show me one better..... We are not talking carb rich and fatty immigrant worker food (i like that too don't get me wrong); This is delicate food that holds court with traditional French, Persian, etc... We are talking about World Class..... But with a truly traditional Mexican menu. Lots of exotic spices and flavors... The prices are so modest that I tipped 100% because I felt guilty for spending more money to eat food that is nowhere near as good as this food. My first time there was last night and I had the veal with the salsa mandarina OMG.. My girlfriend had something resembling a more typical dark mole; but nothing typical about it... My personal quest is over; I have officially discovered the best Mole in L.A. The flavors in their dishes are all remarkably unique, and the 30+ ingredients in their Mole De Los Dioses will only blow your taste buds away till the last bite. Mole De Los Dioses ("Mole of the Gods") is a true divinity of a restaurant where gourmet meets cultural authenticity. As the story goes, Rocio (the chef) won a Mole competition in Los Angeles, where after a taste of her mole one of the judges remarked "this is the mole of the Gods". The main ingredient in Mole De Los Dioses, huitlacoche, stays true to ancient sauces once prepared by Aztecs of Pre-Hispanic Mexico. The owners and servers are incredibly nice. To help us decide on drinks, they brought us 3 samples of their drinks (citrus & Chia, strawberry & hibiscus, horchata w/ pepita garnish). You can't go wrong with any drink as they are oooohhh so good. For dinner we ordered Mole De Los Dioses (a must have!), Diosa Mayahuel (shrimp w/ tequila sauce, also a must have!!), and for desert we got Plantains In Tequila Sauce (BELIEVE ME, ANOTHER MUST HAVE!). I am a huge lover of molé. The kind of person that will drive around to taste a delicious molé. That being said, this restaurant made a fresh, well presented, yummy molé. I can't call it the best I have eaten but I do appreciate a family establishment that tries. I ordered the molé poblano, it came with hand made corn tortillas and a side of rice mixed with veggies. I also ordered the horchata which was one like I never had before..... came with pumpkin seeds floating on top, I was a bit confused but I drank it anyway. If you do decide to try it, don't let the fact that it is in a industrial neighborhood steer you away..... parking is a little tricky but I'm sure you will figure it out. Wow, this place is great! In the hood in an unexpected location (you might think you're in the wrong place at first) but once you're inside you won't regret it. I was wondering what I would order initially since I'm not a mole fan, however most of what they offer is not mole related. You have to try anything with tequila sauce; my favorites are the shrimps with tequila sauce and the plantains with tequila sauce (dessert). The service was exceptional and the quality and taste was phenomenal. I'm the type of individual that appreciates fine dining and treating myself and this sure was a treat. My gf suggested this place because she'd been here a few times for lunch with coworkers. Despite multiple visits, somehow she had no idea they sold grasshopper tacos! As soon as I saw the photos of them on Yelp, I had to check it out. I had never had roasted grasshoppers (chapulines) before, so I didn't make it the focus of my meal. I ordered a single taco de chapulines and the veal with mole verde. To drink, I ordered the horchata, which was prepared very differently than I'm used to. The rim of the glass had some flavored sugar on it and there were sunflower seeds in the drink. I was impressed at how well the nuttiness of the seeds paired with the cinnamon sweetness of the horchata. A great combination that I never would have considered. Some of the seeds sink and others float, so use that spoon and straw strategically. The grasshopper taco came out first. It made my girlfriend a bit squeamish and she wouldn't try a single bug! I thought it looked surprisingly amazing and I wasn't disappointed. The grasshoppers themselves are well-seasoned: salty and limey. They have a decent crunch that would be best compared to the fried shrimp head you get when you order sweet shrimp at a sushi spot. The roasted insects sat on a bed of pico de gallo with cilantro, a creamy avocado salsa, and some hot chili oil. It was a little spicier than I thought it would be, but hardly unbearable. Next was the veal. The meat was SUPER tender and flavorful. Not at all gamey. The mole verde was delicious but very mild and next time I'd probably prefer something with some more kick. The pumpkin seeds in the mole were interesting and, like the sunflower seeds in my horchata, provided an intriguing combination of flavors that worked very well together. This was served over some julienned carrots, peas, and white rice. Everything was great and I can't wait to come back and try more! read more

I came to this little mole spot over the weekend w/ my bf and his family for dinner located in the industrial part of Bell. There was about a 10 minute wait since we had a larger party. I wanted to try all the moles I can, so we ordered a mole sampler which is an off -menu item that comes with 4 bowls of mole of your choice and home made tortillas ($7.99). Of the options, I highly recommend the Oaxaqueno and the Pablano mole. The Mole de Tequila was pretty good too and had a nice spicy kick to it. I don't know why the menu says it's "mild" next to the description. The Manchemantales mole was only ok and NOT hot as it was indicated on the menu. That was my least favorite. My chicken enchilada with Oaxaqueno mole was good, but I was expecting the chicken to be shredded rather than diced. I think shredded meat soaks up the sauce better. The horchata here has sugar on the rim and sunflower seeds inside, which is very tasty and interesting. I believe everyone else at our table loved their meal. Parking is along the street anywhere you can find. I would def come back here again. read more

It was the first time I tried mole so we went with the sampler. My favorite was the strawberry mole followed by the coffee mole and the medium spiced moles were good too. I had the platillo Oaxaqueno and my gosh was the meat awesome and the tortilla filled with cheese and smothered with black beans... excellent. You have to try one of their agua frescas. I'm not a dessert person but save some room because there is a dish with platanos in a white tequila sauce that makes your meal experience complete. The service is excellent - very friendly and welcoming. This place was worth the drive and definitely deserves the 5 stars read more

I've been here a hand full of times and the quality and taste is always consistent. I make it a must to order the sopa azteca whenever I come. I even come for the soup alone. It is a bit small but nothing wrong with that, you could still fit a large party of 12-14 people comfortably. He was kind and knew about every single item on the menu. He would give his recommendations and what mole (they have an assortment to choose from) goes best with what type of meat or fish.
