Make reservations for dinner! On our first visit, we were turned away for dinner with no reservation. Stop in at the hotel reception to claim your spot.
This restaurant is small with an area of nicely set tables a couple of steps up from the entrance and a 'bar' area below. There are quite a few staff members for the dozen or so tables being served. The decor is wood and stone lending it a nice 'Alpine lodge' atmosphere.
After check in with the receptionist to the right of the door, our coats were hung with help from a staff member and another staff member showed us to our table. The menu has English translations making it easy to choose. (The menu is also posted outside on the building to the left of the entrance.) I was brought the 'wine card' which is an enormous (in dimension), menu with a selection of 'by the glass', and bottled options in red, white, rose and effervescent.
The waiter opened the bottle at the table, offered the cork and a sample before pouring. I ordered 2dl and a small portion was poured into my glass and a carafe with the remainder left on the table. Staff members refilled my glass as it neared empty throughout our meal.
We chose the veal medallions and duck. My first choice was rabbit, but that sold out at lunch, so if you want the rabbit, you may want to come for lunch not dinner. The veal medallions were excellent. Served in a rich sauce with buttered egg noodles and seasonal vegetables. The pan fried duck was very good, well cooked, in a tasty sauce and served with duchess potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
The staff here are friendly and professionally trained. One of the wait staff was a bit stuffy, but all the others were relaxed and good-natured. The owner stopped by our table to say hello and we chatted a bit. We were helped on with our coats after paying the tab and the door held open for our departure. Lots of small touches that raise the level of customer service to the next level. read more
