The food is quite expensive but normal for Swiss standards, and honestly felt it was worth it given the large portion sizes. The spicy pork bratwurst was juicy and satisfying but a bit too salty for my liking. I also wish it was a bit spicier! It came with some caramelized onions on the side which were drenched in sauce and paired well with the sausage. The potatoes were buttery and delicious. I've had a lot of potatoes during the past two weeks in Europe and these were among the best. The veal schnitzel was also quite good. It was lightly breaded on the outside and succulent on the inside. We ordered the risotto on the side which was creamy and flavorful, but we had a hard time finishing due to the heaviness of the dish. Although I was curious about their Wienerschnitzel, the portion is for 2 people and I simply wasn't in the mood to eat that. I've been craving pasta and fish (not together) after a few days in Switzerland. I looked up their menu the day before and planned on getting their lobster pasta. The server just whips the cream and fluff up with mousse, serve two big dollops of chocolate mousse under the whipped cream on a plate. 4.5/5 Their best dishes are German and French which makes them truly Swiss. I left feeling satisfied. The restroom is downstairs. They have a wall of fame with pictures of celebrities and politicians that have dined at Old Swiss House such as Frank Sinatra, Pres. We were traveling to Switzerland to celebrate my friend's birthday, so I wanted to make sure that on the day of his birthday, we had a nice meal to celebrate, and Scala didn't disappoint! The restaurant is located in the Art Deco Hotel Montana. I made a reservation on their website a couple weeks in advance with the note that we were celebrating a birthday, so they gave us one of the best tables with a view by the window. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with impeccable service, from the coat check to letting us try the house wine before committing to the complimentary birthday dessert. It was the best service by far that we received at any restaurant during our trip. The meal started off with a delicious complimentary baguette, paired with regular butter and curry butter. The baguette was super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and both butters were fantastic. We also each got a glass of their house wine for $10.50 each. Both the red and white house wines were delicious. One of the reasons I chose Scala is because the menu is very vegetarian friendly. There were multiple options for my friend. We had a large lunch and weren't super hungry, so we shared one appetizer and each ordered an entrée. The tomato carpaccio ($28) was delicious when paired with the fried burrata. My entrée was the braised veal cheeks ($56 for a large portion), which ended up being one of the best braised meat dishes I've ever had. The veal cheeks were super tender and flavorful in every bite and went well with the saffron risotto and spinach that comes with it. It was a HUGE piece of meat, and by the end I was struggling to finish, but I managed with lots of breaks. My friend got the burrata lime ravioli ($44) and said it was the best ravioli he's ever had. I tried a bite and I had to agree, it was pretty flavorful and amazing. We were completely stuffed but still wanted to end the meal on a sweet note, so we each got a scoop of their sorbet. I got the strawberry and he got the mango-passion fruit, and as you'd expect, both were on point with their flavors and were exactly what we were looking for in terms of a light dessert. They also came by and presented us with a complimentary birthday cake and candle, which was a pleasant surprise. Halfway through the evening, a pianist came and started playing the piano, so the meal here felt like such a classy and elegant affair. What is raclette? Raclette is a Swiss dish in which a wheel of semi-soft cow's‑milk cheese, traditionally from Valais, is heated and the melted layer is scraped onto potatoes, bread, and pickled vegetables. Raclette refers both to the cheese and the dish. The name comes from the French racler, meaning "to scrape," describing how the melted cheese is served. Our traditional raclette had a wedge of cheese that was heated on a special tabletop electric raclette machine. It was served with bowls filled with boiled red potatoes, cornichons, tiny, pickled pearl onions, steamed veggies, cubes of bread and sliced fruits.
