Restaurant Kozo was our best dining experience on this past trip to Paris, and I am convinced this chef will have a Michelin star in the near future. Small, with just a smattering of tables, Kozo is another "find" in the 9th Arrondissement. In my opinion, the 9th has become a restaurant haven in Paris, housing establishments with better kitchens and more elegance than what pops up in the eleventh.
The Japanese chef, Kozo Makita, continues the tradition of Japanese culinary artists producing exquisite French food in the capital. There are hundreds, but Kozo does it right. Our 9 course degustation menu cost 85 Euros, not exactly cheap, but well worth the expense. We have tasted worse food for twice that amount at restaurants exuding arrogance, with no concern for the diner's pleasure. At Kozo, the customer comes first, and the service exudes warmth, not arrogance. They couldn't do enough to make us happy. My favorite dish was a tender piece of veal, cut from the rib. It was succulent and delicious. The preparation wasn't as creative as the chef's delicate pumpkin and chestnut soup, but I love veal done well. Everything on the nine course menu was delicious, and the Chef had no missteps. We were the last patrons to leave, and rather than being rushed, the chef offered me a saki tasting. Chef Makita took pleasure in my pleasure. That is what dining should be all about, and I will return to Kozo as quick as I can. Restaurant Kozo is a special dining experience, pure in their direction, knowing that graciousness is an integral part of serving great food. read more
