Went to an event at Second Mill and what a treat. The space in the back is perfect to make any vision come to life. The party theme was green and gold. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. For their event they had rice and gravy, mac n cheese, green beans, grilled pork chops, fried chicken, pulled turkey, rolls, and banana pudding. Excellent! So much flavor. First off, server was great. But the place is so trashy. Filthy booths to the point you can tell the fabric used to be one color but now just dingy and gross. They put out the lunch buffet at 10am, zero customers besides us so you know the food will be gross by the time anyone showed up. Don't get me started on the restroom. We didn't even finish our mimosas just paid and left never to return. Gordon Ramsey might be able to fix it but would probably walk away and let it fail. read more

I went for lunch with friends. I didn't want the buffet, too much food. I ordered wings with hot chili sauce. When I ordered the wings, the menu stated that it came with celery and blue cheese or ranch dressing. Pretty standard at most restaurants. The server said they don't serve celery. I said that's what the menu says. She said they don't use celery in any other dish so they don't buy it. Then they should not list it in the menu. She did say I could get green peppers from the salad bar to eat with the wings and that's what I did. The wings were drenched in sauce. Average at best. One person had salmon which looked dry and unseasoned. The Brussels sprouts that went with the salmon looked awful. She didn't complain but didn't eat most of her food. We were a group of 6 and we were each charged an extra $2. I think people come here for the buffet which I didn't have. Maybe the best food is on the buffet. This restaurant is not for me. read more

If you have any desire to eat tasty, seasoned southern food.....don't waste your time or money. I suggest keep on traveling till you find Southern Bistro. Spend your hard earned dollars wisely. From the terrible run down bathrooms to the overpriced canned food dumped into the feeding trough, to the small cramped dining area with the stained and disgusting fabric cover benches. Always a great experience at the Mill. The food, customer service, and atmosphere are all great. Now the selling point of the whole experience is the banana pudding because this is where I got hooked on it. You can either order from their menu list, buffet or do both. Cash, debit/credit accepted. There is a bathroom outside of the restaurant by the first entrance and also a bar. I've only been at the restaurant side of it. Support local! read more

Let me start by saying hopefully this was an off visit. Used to go to the old location off of Liberty all the time. Absolutely loved that location. Was back in town so decided to try this newer location. Food was decent for most part. Exception being the corn bread being very dry, and the baked chicken was over cooked, dry and bland. The time we went it wasn't very busy. However the waitress never stopped by our table to refill our drinks or check on us. Food was a major disappointment, expected a good country buffet and got over/uncooked mess. The fried chicken could choke you on pure dryness. Cabbage was so over cooked it was essentially baby food. Many dishes on the buffet were poor and frankly for the price point not worth it. Waitress was a sweet woman but for a while no hostess to direct guests. We ordered food from here when we first arrived to the area. My husband and I both ordered the chicken fried steak. I got mashed potatoes, green beans and macaroni and cheese. Hubby got the same except he didn't get the potatoes. Everything taste really good. It reminds me of home cooking. I also got the banana pudding for dessert and it was delicious. We ordered from doordash so I can't really say what the restaurant itself is like but the food is great. Yummmmmm! I love their home-style, country-cookin buffet... especially when they have turkey and dressing on it! The salad bar (which is included) is awesome as well! If I start out with a salad, I usually end up just eating salad. They have the BEST tuna salad in Sumter, along w/ chicken salad (I think they alternate chicken & tuna salad) seafood salad, pasta salad, cucumber salad, bean salad, etc... along w/ all the toppings to make a complete "Chef's Salad" or whatever you fancy. They also have a full menu from which one can order. The menu includes starters/appetizers, salads, steaks, seafood, surf n' turf, burgers & sandwiches, and desserts, with your choice of tea, water, or Coke products. My family of 7 and I often go to the Second Mill Grill for Sunday lunch after church. I don't have to cook OR clean up which makes me SO HAPPY! I've never had a bad meal from there...nor bad service. The wait-staff are very nice, sweet, and "Johnny-on-the-spot" quick Their STEAKS are FANTASTIC, and so is their SEAFOOD! I have seen in the past where they had crab legs on the buffet, but I can't rate those because I've never had them before from SMG. They can also cater to large parties in their private dining room(s) and in their main dining area. They have a terrific set-up to host large parties. Their dining room configuration can be altered by partition walls that pull out from the walls. I WILL be hosting my next party there. read more

None of us were impressed with the buffet. The food was overcooked & bland. There was only 1 dessert option & it looked gross, didn't even try it. I love all the food options, but it's all in how they are cooked & I found the lima beans, black eyed peas, cabbage & collards all underwhelming; needing salt & mushy. I had the shredded chicken & turkey that didn't have any flavoring at all to them. The kids even said the soft serve ice cream wasn't worth it either. We would not be back as this was their Sunday buffet, which in general is a restaurant's best offering. read more

We went here for breakfast on Mother's Day. The wait for every other breakfast restaurant was an hour or more and we were about to just go home until Yelp suggested it. I am so glad we found it! No wait, friendly staff and good food! I got the Fried bologna, pancake, and cheese grits to share with my son. We both loved it! Came here for the first time ever tonight and I did not enjoy it. One of the servers was giving us stank side eyes making us feel like we weren't welcomed. The wait for our server to come by our table was absolutely horrendous and unfortunate. She was sweet and we could tell that she was busy but she would stop by every other table but ours. The food was alright...my mom asked for a spoon and she told us to go get it ourselves...with my mom visabley havung trouble with walking getting up and down. The food was good, however not delivered to the table in a timely manner, also I ordered half unsweetened tea but instead the waitress brought out unsweetened tea and even told me it was half sweet as she sat it down on my table. I ordered a meat and three but she only brought out a meat and two and I reminded her I had ordered banana pudding and she assured me that she would bring it out , it never came so I just let them know on the way out, I could not recommend this restaurant due to poor service. The string beans need the strings pulled off, the collards are full of stems and the grilled chicken is so dry. The food is good and the prices reasonable. I like that you can have the buffet or order from the menu. Service is good. I really want to opine on their lounge side. The lounge doesn't have it's own social media. If you want to find out what may be going on next door you must call the restaurant since the lounge doesn't have it's own number. When you call the restaurant for events, 90% of the time the person answering the phone has no idea! You're put on hold and when they come back, they may not have complete info, e.g.: cover charge or start time. I've been told that the same woman who runs the restaurant runs the lounge. NOT GOOD. Drinks are served in solo cups or it you get lucky, real glass! They never have frozen drinks and the attitude at the bar is less then accommodating and friendly. They seem to cater to the "regulars". If you're only a beer drinker you might be ok. Their wine racks are empty and the bar over-all is less then appealing. Their isn't much entertainment to begin with in Sumter. This place has a lot of potential, just the wrong person, people running it. I hope this review is read and considered as a qualified opinion. First of all, most restaurants aren't serving this good of cook-to-order food from the kitchen, much less from a buffet. Good, (bad for you) southern, comfort food. So good. I don't think I've ever been disappointed here. If you're trying to be good, they have the biggest salad bar in Sumter and always have hot veggies and baked/roasted meats on the bar also. Saturday night is seafood night and it is so good! They have your staples: fried oysters, clam strips and shrimp but they also have more interesting things like flavored steamed shrimp, shrimp and grits and baked fishes you don't usual usually see on a buffet. They keep a little on the bar and refill it often to keep everything fresh. And on Saturdays they have melt in your mouth brisket on the buffet. Mmm mmm good! read more

First time visiting restaurant and we decided to try their breakfast buffet. Well we won't be going back. The food looked as though it had been sitting out all morning. Very poor selection and all the containers were about empty. They gravy and grits were so hard which I know means they were out all morning! The waitress didn't even bring our drinks to us until we were almost done eating. I voiced my concern when we were checking out and was only given a $2.24 discount. That terrible breakfast was $22.00! The cashier proceeded to tell me that the buffet was mainly for the guests at the hotel and they start at 6am! The restaurant has a new location, 2390 Broad St. Our breakfast this Sunday morning was less than expected. We arrived at 10:00am. We waited for service no longer than expected. Our order was taken, and then came the long waiting game. A after a larger group that sat about the time our order was taken got their food, our breakfast was finally brought out to us. We arrived as soon as the doors opened on Sunday and we enjoyed a nice salad and we thought the fried chicken was excellent. The sweet potato casserole was just like my mom's so it reminded me of home. The pimento cheese on the salad bar was great. Our waitress arrived at our table about 5 minutes after we sat down and took our drink order. The table beside us was reserved for Perkins and the group of four arrived and waitress should have just sat down and ate dinner with them. We waved her over but she just said I will get you in a minute. After about 15 minutes the waitress is still talking and hugging the party at the reserved table. We asked her for tea and she snaps I will get it. The last member arrives for the reserved table and the waitress runs over and hugs her and comes back with a large glass of ice tea but she takes it over to the reserved table. After 35 minutes of waiting for a bill and tea we finally just left. The line was out the door waiting for a table which we could have left 45 minutes earlier if we could have gotten some tea and bill. The food was overall good but if a short waitress with short hair is your server I highly recommend changing tables. This was the worse service I have every had in any restaurant. Not really sure how this waitress is keeping her job but if the service is bad it makes your meal unenjoyable. I can describe how bad this service was but it was the worse that I have ever experienced. read more
