It is a really pretty space. I love their Instagram feed; it's gorgeous. But it's more than just a pretty space. The space is set up for you to go through a thermal cycle. For the first cycle you can choose from the sauna (dry heat) or my favorite the steam rooms. They have have scented steam and I loved the orange one. Then you either take a dip in the Polar Plunge pool pictured above or dump a bucket of cold water over you. I tried both and preferred the pool. I was really hesitant to go in and it was super cold while getting into the pool, but felt SO good after. Then you can rest in the hot tub. One of the things that we experienced was the Aufguss Ritual. There was a Sauna Meister that performed the ritual and it was intense, but amazing! I would highly recommend it. There was also a restaurant on campus with amazing food. Everything I had was so good, but the confit was my favorite! Okay the tomato soup with the croque was a close second. And the best part? You can eat in your robes! Talk about being relaxed! It's beautiful in the evening too. And the spa is opened year round. I would love to come here in the winter! We ended the evening with s'mores over the fire. We spent a total of 5 hours and it flew by! I could totally spend all day there and wish there was one close to where I live. I slept so well that night and woke up feeling amazing.

When things stabilized a little, I finally decided to pamper myself. I found Essentique and decided to give them a try, never having been to an Aveda salon before. I shot the works! the stress-fix mani/pedi, stress-fix massage, body polish, bikini wax and a haircut and blow out. OMG. I couldn't believe how great it was. Ava took care of me for the wax and manicure, Parvinder did my massage, body polish, and pedicure, and Kelly took care of my hair (the cut was better than the one I got at Chatters, and was more economical!). The body polish, with the hot towels was SOOOO relaxing. I nearly fell asleep. I felt so spoiled and amazing after I was done. I was offered something to drink during my mani/pedi, and everyone was so friendly and nice. I felt so refreshed and renewed afterward, and I'm so grateful. Thank you for a great job, ladies!

A recent not great experience at a nail salon had me thinking, in hindsight, how much I appreciated…read morethe manicure I had here last year. Yes, it was that long ago -- nails just aren't a thing for me. But, I really appreciated the experience here: I was asked about my preferences throughout -- preferred nail shape, if I wanted my cuticles trimmed, or pushed back, and whether I wanted my nails buffed before polish. After being asked none of those things elsewhere, I value how much the manicurist really wanted me to enjoy the results. And I did!! As an overall review, I would say I spent a great deal more time at this spa back in the days when it was possible to buy day passes for the mineral pools - I bought a few 10 packs in 2009/10, and really enjoyed it after work as away to unwind and warm up in the winter. Now that I have a different job and work far, far more hours per week I wouldn't have time to indulge in this even if it was available! But, over the past 1 - 1.5 years, I have had a d enjoyed body scrubs and wraps. TBH, I think they do the best wraps in the city because they provide a mini facial instead of just leaving you stranded in the room for 20 minutes like so.many.other.places (in Winnipeg, and elsewhere). I used to go more often when they had the rosehip healing wrap. The only downside to the spa is how noisy it is. True, certain days will be louder than others due to the hotel pool and water slide adjacent, but I have also found the mineral pool side of the spa quite noisy, so I find it hard to relax. But, as I understand, there are renovations planned to make the mineral pool side a little more secluded, and hopefully that will encourage a more soft, calming atmospheric

The one who massaged my lady friend, however, was way too chatty. Not only so, but her volume was quite loud too. Whenever I tried to tell the one massaging me something, she couldn't hear most of the time and the interference was getting pretty annoying. I can tell this is a pricey place (the massage was a gift) and the chattiness left me kinda sour, and the chatty one wasn't even the one massaging me. Otherwise, the establishment is quite nice. After the massage, ppl can go make tea or coffee upstairs, take a shower in the locker room, or use the amenities in the locker room. Within the locker room, they have shaving cream, disposable razors, a shower, mouth wash, and other things to get ppl freshly on their way. The receptionist seemed alright, hardly a smile but not mean at least.

We booked a "couples" massage as a family day and were really excited to try hot stone therapy. We had to call to book since it wasn't letting us online and we were told we had to book many weeks out to both have hot stone, after a lot of back and forth we settled on one receiving hot stone and one regular massage so we could book sooner. Even at that, openings were very minimal and we had to work our schedules around it. We were not warmly greeted upon arrival and provided cheap polyester robes. Our locker stopped working making us need to go back out to rescue our belongings. After the massage we asked each other how the hot stone was (since in the midst of the silence we both thought somehow the other had been assigned the hot stone masseuse) and realized NEITHER of us had received it. Upon bringing it up at the. front we were offered $4 off our $420 appointment. No replacement offered for the service we never received. The massage itself was fine, but masseuse was sick and coughing. The level of service here and the fact that we never got what we booked was a huge disappointment and frankly this establishment isn't even close to living up to the hefty price tag they charge. Never again.

My son (age 46) and I (age 75) visited Aikens Lake Wilderness Lodge for the second time this past…read moreweek. This is my 33rd fishing trip to Manitoba and 18th lodge visited. We were the first group in for this season. Other than being very cold and rainy it was a great trip. Nothing has changed since our first visit in 2019. In my opinion this is the best overall lodge in Manitoba. There are so many different ways that this lodge is superior to others but let me try and highlight a few. Let's start with the booking process. Pit, the owner and General Manager, appears to sit at his computer 24 hours a day. When you contact him, you get an almost immediate response. His communication is clear and to the point. When you book you get a provisional slot hold until you make your deposit. You can send in a check or use a credit card. Once you book his wife, Julie, takes over and contacts you about any special requests you may have. If you have any special dietary requests, booze orders or the like she makes sure it happens. Next are the lodge facilities. The cabins are immaculate and appear brand new. Ours had two bedrooms each with a mini split heater and AC and a living room with a fireplace. There was also a screened in porch. A short walk to the main lodge itself which houses the dining room and "Big Mollys Bar". The bar is unusual in that it includes a happy hour before dinner where the drinks are free. At most lodges I have fished the groups tend to keep to themselves. One impact of the happy hour is that most groups become very friendly. Secret spots and lures are shared freely and you make new friends. We have already made contact we people we met at the lodge and are making plans to met again next year. On to the food. Most lodges have a fixed breakfast. At Aikens you can order whatever you want for breakfast. I had asked Julie to have some hot peppers for my omelet and they sure were hot! The shore lunches were also unique. The lodge has prepared several sites throughout the lake with picnic benches, metal roofing to protect from the rain, propane cook tops and chopped wood for the open firs. This not only keeps you dry and comfortable but dramatically reduced the food preparation and cooking time. The lunches themselves are not just the old fried fish but included different variety of batters and baked fish. Dinner at the lodge was also special every night. Julie cooked for us a few nights and she is the best chef in Canada. One night we had a pork chop that must have been 2 inched thick but was still moist and tender. Steak night riveled any steak house in Winnipeg, The staff were also exceptional. Pit, Julie and Patrick are all co-owners and unlike many other lodges are on site. This ensures that if any issues arise, they are dealt with quickly and properly, They have hired a great group of young ladies to work the dining room and cabins. They are friendly and hard working. The guides are also good. They tend to hire young men in college who work there for4 to 6 years so you always have an experienced guide who knows the lake in your group. The newer ones receive formal training from Pit and Pat and also learn from the more experienced guides. The fishing is also good. The boats are newer 18-foot Lunds powered by 60HP Yamaha motors. They have very comfortable cushioned chairs, depth finders, live wells and trolling motors. Most lodges have. 16-foot boats and 20 or 30HP engines, benches and no electronics You can really cover a lot of ground quickly with these 60 HP motors! It was very cold (low 40's) and rainy during our trip which impacted the fishing. However we still managed to catch several pike on the low 40s and had an afternoon during which we caught walleye over 22 inches for 3 hours straight. I made the "century club" by catching 4 walleyes totaling over 100 inches in the same day. We can't wait to return next year!
