This company is reckless and unskilled. These tree rings and patio were completed 2 weeks ago and are already breaking apart as you can see from the pictures. They overcharged for work they did not know how to do. When I questioned their methods and repeated 2 outside professionals' expert explanations of the issues, they condescendingly told me to "google the ramming earth method they have used for 20 years" and acted like I was overrating to my patio caving in on itself. I did google it and found out it was indeed the wrong method for a raised/sealed patio and would cause it to sink into the ground and break, which you can see is already happening mere weeks later. When I asked how they would fix the issue they said they would remove an isolated area of stone that dipped into the center to reinforce that part and add more mortar to the top to fill in the sinking seams. The issue is that they used permeable sand that allows water to break down the seams and because the base isn't reinforced with cement/rebar, the water that leaks in and the weight of the stones make it sink deeper and breakdown into itself. I had stopped payment on my second check so we could work out a solution but other professional opinions were their solution wouldn't actually resolve the problems, it would just keep happening. They told me to use the second half of my payment to hire someone else, so I did. When I asked them for the remaining refund of the patio (excluding the tree rings that weren't even circles and had already cracked apart) because I didn't want to pay for something that needed to be demolished and redone, they responded with a bill and threats. The email was attempting to convince me that I had accepted their work and was there to oversee it all, which I wasn't and also, I'm not a foreman or masonry - I accepted ugly work but didn't realize it would also fall apart. They attached a bill for full payment, going back on their previous statement to keep it, and threatened to put a lien on my property if I didn't pay. Luckily, that was unlawful. I replied inviting them to see what has happened to their work over the last couple of weeks and provided them with access to a photo drive with over 100 photos and a video so they could see their work. They accesses the photos but ghosted me. If they, and their work, had integrity they would have handled this situation respectfully and appropriately. I don't want others to have to be in my position so I'm sharing my experience in hopes to prevent you from getting a hazard installed on your property and having to pay twice. read more

I've been planning and preparing to build a garden in my backyard for awhile now. Unfortunately, this company is part of the reason Texas has a law against deceptive trade practices. I have spent months trying to reconcile fraudulent practices with the owner(s?) and have been left with no path for recourse except a lawsuit. I was referred to Stevie and a Resolution gardens through a family member who his part of the addiction recovery community. They were the most expensive of 3 quotes I received which I discussed them. At the end I chose to move forward on Stevie's guarantee of my satisfaction and in part because they were a referral who, in my mind, was helping a good cause. Skipping past communication issues, worker inefficiencies, and seemingly random start/stop times, the bottom line is they cheated me out of $2000 on my $9345 deposit and were not able to finish the job they started. The quote stated in writing that the final bill was due on receipts and actual hours worked. At the end of the job I was told there were no receipts for the materials and "her records" showed 13 daysx8 hours x 2 people for a total of 208 hours. They were only onsite 10 days for 5 hours/day (+ 2 partial days), they only worked onsite for 110hours. Stevie has justified that I should pay 3hrs/day for her people to drive to my house. I raised this concern twice during the job, the project manager onsite agree that I should not be paying for drivetime and Stevie assured me we would sort it out at the end. The company quoted me $1000/gravel, then tried to charge me $1960 for gravel and when I asked for receipts they "cannot" be provided and so the charged was dropped back to $1000 as quoted. In the end, if I ignore inefficiencies etc, this company brought $7000 worth of value to me. They took my $9345 and have refused a refund stating that I should pay the workers for 8hrs/day even when they were only onsite for 5 and pay for days in which they didn't even show up. Stevie has change the invoice a few times, each with different core numbers, but it all instances coming to the same conclusion that her work was justified. Every single hour I have accounted for is on my property cameras. Advertising that their work is billed on receipts and actual hours worked and then billing for excess hours and zero receipts fit the definition of deceptive trade. Be very aware of this company. read more

I would not recommend this company at all. The soil that they used has been awful. It doesn't drain at all. Their response "The soil we use is landscape mix for Whittlesey and we use it in every garden we plant. It is supposed to pool and then slowly soak in." It is a clay like soil and definitely pools/does not drain. All the plants are yellow and leggy and have a rust fungus on them. I have several beds on my property, raised and in ground, with similar plants, planted at the same time and this one is the only sickly looking one. My other beds are lush and green and producing! I regret selecting Randy and Resolution Gardens over two other bids that were slightly more expensive. In addition, working on this project with RG was not a pleasant experience at all. read more

It has been several months since Randy and his team came to do work for us. I was very disappointed to say the least. The pros: Randy had some good ideas and was able to take out a fountain and move it in pieces to another part of the yard where we can reuse some of it as a planter. The veggie garden he built works great. A few of the issues we encountered: 1. He had several jobs going at the same time and so people on his team would come by for a few hours a day a few days a week. Part of the reason we hired this work out was to get it done faster and better than we could have done ourselves. I would have preferred that he do our job all at once even if we had to wait for it to start, or failing that, as estimate of how long our elapsed time would be. Our job that was bid out at 3 people for 4 days took over 6 weeks to complete. This is a very long time to have your yard unusable by two small kids and a dog. 2. Because it took so long to do some of the issues with their work became apparent even before they'd finished. They didn't weed before they mulched so weeds grew through the mulch on the front yard before they finished the back. When asked to make sure they didn't mulch what hadn't been cleaned out, they grumbled and made a big deal of it. A few weeks after they'd left we found huge paving stones they'd thrown mulch over. 3. They put sod down on some areas of the lawn. We asked them to rework one area because it was so lumpy it was unsafe. They had dug in that area and so they did put some dirt down before they put sod in. The rest of the lawn they did not do any prep whatsoever. Sod was placed directly over weeds. Needless to say, it did not take. When I emailed Randy about this and asked him to come by and discuss he said he was out of town and that's the last I heard from him. 4. I asked for budget updates regularly. The last update I got was about 2 weeks before they finished and they were $1000 under budget. When I got the final bill they were more than $1400 over budget, although he took off $400 in labor for the sod redo. That was a massive swing that I feel was inappropriate to not have received notice they'd gone over. 5. Several of the plants they planted have died and others are not working in the spot they were planted. I was expecting more expertise in selecting plants, as I'm able to buy something from a store and kill it by planting it in the wrong spot without paying $40/hour for labor. 6. I got a totally different story from everyone that came out about what was going to happen and when. When we discussed the different versions of the plan we were hearing with Randy he said he was the boss and he made the decisions so we shouldn't listen to anyone else. That wasn't a feasible solution because he was rarely at the job site to weigh in. Needless to say I would not use Randy and his team again or recommend him to anyone. We felt like he didn't have the equipment or labor force to do parts of the job (specifically the sod) and he should have told us that isn't what he does and we should go with someone else. read more

The work they did correctly is great. However there were too many communication issues to leave a good review. I would tell the manager what I wanted but the team on-site always got the wrong instructions. At the original consult we agreed to remove the ligustrums from the front flower bed. I just got home to find they removed the nice shrubs I wanted to keep. Communication is a serious problem, but the people are nice and friendly. read more

We were initially impressed with Randy's sketch for the yard and the staff were all friendly. Things started to break down when, despite voicing our concerns about weeds at the outset of the project, they didn't put down any sort of weed barrier under the flagstone patio they installed, so our patio is constantly covered in weeds. We were reassured again and again that the few sprouting weeds we saw, once pulled, would be the last. This turned out to be patently untrue and was one of TWO major issues we wanted to avoid that we brought up at the very beginning. As another reviewer mentioned, they didn't amend the soil at all and planted everything straight into heavy clay soil in Aug/Sep, so we lost a lot of plants. They replaced a few, but lost interest in helping us when things weren't getting any better. We also relied on them to choose a good variety of plants for a bed they made and instead we ended up with plants that will be over 6 feet high in front of shorter plants, 4 of the same thing, and a gravel bed (again with no weed barrier) instead of a mulched bed. Constant weeds are the result. And lastly, again, despite voicing my preference for a variety of plants so that not everything died back in the winter, the choices made all died back in the winter, so the yard is completely brown for months. read more

From the minute I made an offer on my house, I knew I wanted garden beds in the front yard. On a two way slope, I could visualize terraced beds set into the slope, ideal for vegetables, flowers, winter greens and roses. Randy came out and looked at my drawing, and suggested some changes to help capture rain runoff and made the beds conform more naturally to the slope. We started with a side bed that ended up much larger than I had intended, but it is now my mainstay herb garden. The three crescent shaped beds near the sidewalk are ideal for winter garden vegetables and now okra in the sun. The natural stone retaining walls were laid by Stevie and Randy, without any mortar or posts--and they have stayed in place through heavy rains and some occasional wandering dogs and kids. For the ultimate challenge, I asked them to improve the drainage in a narrow passthrough to the back yard on the uphill side of the house, but retain a firm walkway wide enough for my garden dolly to carry sacks of soil, manure and so on, to the back yard. Randy came up with an innovative design with a gravel drain and a decomposed granite walkway, separated and supported by large limestone bricks that I already had on the property. Again, several heavy rainfalls later, it is in good condition, drains beautifully to both front and back (as planned) and means I don't have to worry about flooding or erosion on my foundation. As an added plus, we used the soil removed from the drainage ditch to create a raised bed in the back yard that guides the runoff away from the back of house. I'm hoping to have more terraced beds put in the front this winter. Great design, great installation and great communication! read more

I really hate doing this, but I have to say that i wouldn't recommend this company. Scheduling was a breeze, but I felt like anytime I had a question, I received a different answer. The designer did a great job, but the budget that I was given was not enough for the work. The staff continued working spending more money that I never approved. When the designer asked me how I wanted things to be designed, I said " Do what you need to do to make it look pretty" . Apparently he took that as an open checkbook. We discussed several times that I had a tight budget and couldn't afford a lot of work. Halfway through the project I was told I would need to pay an nearly double what I was told in the estimate. I was shocked to say the least. I asked if Randy could come by and we could talk about it, his answer was " Why so you can ambush me?" He mentioned that he had some personal issues with his family and was working several contracts simultaneously and had several employees that he had to attend do and was too busy. Also when I asked to see what the delta was in the cost of the estimate and the cost of what was delivered, I was not shown any receipts or a breakdown structure, just a blanket time and materials invoice. I said that as a customer, I would be happy to pay if i could get this information and was told that I could not have it and that I was trying to " cheat Randy out of money" That was not the case and then was told that he would threaten to sue me if I did not pay for services that I did not approve..then I called a lawyer. I followed the state and federal legal rights process to ask for the information that I was due. Randy refused and said " I gave you a quote..what the fuck else do you want from me?". That was the end of the correspondence. I sent a check for the exact amount of the quote and finished the work myself and considered the matter closed. I have abd still do actual work for landscaping companies in the past and know that it is back breaking work, all I had asked for was answers. Randy provided a great design and reasonable price. The two day job stretched into four days. Only one guy came out to remove all the grass, sadly doing all that hard work by himself. He left without saying saying anything each day, something like hey I'm leaving for the day would have been appreciated. The crew was amendable to my change requests like widening the pathway, and brought out extra rock for future projects, they also talked me into using a smaller gravel between the stones--the rain and the dogs constantly kick up the gravel onto the stones. We are a little disappointed that the flagstone was spaced so far apart. Our patio chair legs constantly sink into the gravel between the stones. Overall I would recommend them, the final project does look very nice, and the crew were very friendly and cleaned up after themselves. read more

We were happy with the finished product, the design process, and the opportunity for our family to work alongside them to complete the work. Twice throughout the project, the project manager assured us we were saving a lot of money by contributing a lot of the labor ourselves. When she presented us with the final bill, she said we might be a little disappointed, and we were! It was quite a bit larger than the original estimate, and we had purchased all the plants ourselves. Each time we reached out to try to understand and clarify what had happened, we got vague and sometimes flippant answers. We asked several times to talk over the phone, but Randy never called. In the end we paid for the work and materials that we understood. We would gladly pay more if we received clear responses to our questions and concerns. In short, we highly recommend their work, but don't be surprised if they end up charging you a lot more without any reasonable explanation. read more

I wouldn't recommend this company. They treated me as an annoyance when I was working through scheduling with them. Also, the gardener didn't really know what to tell me about the plants. Randy was exceptional in helping us get started with our home garden. He provided us with a thorough, detailed, and financially feasible plan for getting it started after the initial consultation. We worked alongside him to learn the basics in preparing the land and sowing seeds. Afterwards, he continued to stay available via email and would respond promptly to any questions. He had us over to tour his own home garden and even gave us some of his leftover supplies. Randy Jewart & crew are excellent. They were creative on maximizing impact within my limited budget. The crew came out and put in a raised garden and landscaping. They took time & educated me on how to keep the garden producing vegetables.They also created a dry creek bed for me. When the crew finished I was pleased with the result. Randy came out later to inspect the work. He is a perfectionist. He decided to completely dig out the rock work & reinstalled with a different color rock to make it more aesthetically pleasing (Randy is an artist also). The results were fantastic! Randy left me with plans to do more work in stages as my budget allows. Highly recommend him. read more

We have not had a good experience with Resolution Gardens. Half way into the project we realized that it was going to be a challenging getting the work completed and performed correctly. Their worker resources were inconsistent in their availability and overall skillsets were below average causing the project to delay over 8 weeks. Project management struggled with providing best practices and ownership was overall unprofessional. A few example issues we experienced in addition to their unreliability....a large amount of rock overspill was not removed from the sod area which they refused to pickup, our driveway was damaged without repair or credit settlement and it took 3 attempts to properly fix a stone installation without using a poor caulking workaround. What i can say is that they tried to make things right at times and do the right thing but when you don't have the right experience to run a business, it's like fighting a losing battle. Cutting the chord in the middle of a project is usually never good but I regret not parting ways sooner. Obviously I do not recommend working with Resolution Gardens. read more

These folks built a 1,000 square foot garden in my back yard. Holy smokes!!!! You can't understand how much work is involved in a garden until you build one in Austin Texas in August when it's 110 degrees. Besides the super hard amazing word done they also educated me throughout the entire process. What an experience. I felt like I took a college class on gardening and agriculture. read more

The crew was very nice but now that it's been a year+ since the garden box was installed, I find that at least one corner post has been nearly eaten through by some crawling varmint. That's a disappointment since I bought the more expensive type so I could sit on the flat edge. read more

Poor quality work was done. Yard prep was done poorly and left lumpy. Yard was measured by guesswork leaving us short of enough sod to replicate our yard. We were advised we could purchase an additional 1/2 pallet of sod for $150 if we wish to complete the job to meet or original expectations. Installation left large gaps that are hazardous to walk on. (the adults in our household are in their 70's and 90's and in peril of falling on these ruts and lumps). Randy has been non-responsive to our concerns actually shifting the blame to us. Randy has avoided personal follow up and has been defensive to honest feedback. He advised us that he will not help if we are not nicer to him. He suggested we pay someone else to fix it. He sent the person that did the work originally to evaluate it rather than make the effort to see the poor work quality himself. Working with this company and it's leadership is a nightmare.
