In my opinion, she's also a beautiful mix of traditional internal medicine and integrative medicine. She's knowledgable across the spectrum and thoughtful in her approach. She's quick to offer OTC and home remedies for ailments. But, she also politely and diplomatically tells me when I need to consider taking antibiotics. She's also efficient when it comes to treatments and their costs. She was able to swap me from 2 injectable and 1 oral med that were all pricey for BHRT to a simple birth control pill that is free with my insurance. I also have a chronic condition that was dormant and has flared back up. She's been so patient and so kind with my angsty self. I truly feel fortunate that she's my doctor. She listens to your story thoroughly whether it is office visit or phone call, comes up with amazing natural healing plans which begins with thorough functional test, follow up on the test results and creating a holistic scientific plan. She documents all visit summaries in nice detail on the secured portal for her patients, so that they can be referred later as well. She is caring, supportive of patient's needs. Her fees are low compared to other functional medicine doctors in Austin, and she does her best to ensure she refers her patients to tests and supplements that are not heavy on budget. With her prescribed plan of diet / stress management / natural supplements, I achieved remission in less than 6 weeks. This is all the more astounding because nutrition was her undergraduate degree. She also doesn't appear to practice evidence-based medicine. After her asking me what I eat in a typical day, she asked, "Where do you get your protein?" (Ugh. The idea that protein is hard to come by is flatly wrong and severely outdated. As Dr. Nestle, chair of the NY University nutrition dept. said, *26* years ago "We never talk about protein anymore, because it's absolutely not an issue, even among children. If anything, we talk about the dangers of high-protein diets. Getting enough is simply a matter of getting enough calories." The DV/RDA is ~8% of calories from protein, while grains are ~13% protein, vegetables 23%, etc.) She then tried to tell me that I had to combine plants foods to get a complete protein. (That was an urban legend promoted by a popular 1971 book, whose author recanted ten years later. The USDA nutrient database shows that individual vegetables, grains, and beans have all essential amino acids, in higher amounts than what we need.) Finally, she said I should eat more fat. I asked if there were science to support the idea that an addition of fat to an otherwise healthy diet improves health outcomes. Her reply was like, "I've been a doctor for 20 years...." Meaning, no science. By the way, she asked why I chose her, and I said that one of her patients wrote in a review about how he was able to get off all his meds for Crohn's Disease. Dr. Ikbal replied that the patient took himself off the meds, it wasn't her doing. Anyway, after hearing so much misinformation in just a brief, limited interaction, I have to wonder what other misinformation Dr. Ikbal is operating on. If you want a physician who practices evidence-based medicine, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. UPDATE: After I left the above review, suddenly DOZENS of glowing 5-star reviews appeared within a few days, about 1/3 of which are from people not even in the Austin area, many not even in the same state, and many of whom have zero other reviews on Yelp. Yelp has understandably moved most of these to the "Reviews Not Recommended" section. Is Dr. Ikbal buying fake reviews? Draw your own conclusions.

She's reasonably priced, we've rarely had to wait more than a day to see her and in a crunch she'll make herself available by phone. One of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She's well versed in both conventional medicine and alternative approaches. I have been a patient of Dr. White's for a little over a year. Before today, I had a good opinion…read moreof him. He's never on time and talks too much but there are worse flaws. I went in today for my monthly follow up appointment. I had had a neck surgery last week which turned out to be extremely painful. I had been in the office the day after the surgery to receive some stronger medication while I healed. Today Dr. White walked in and I couldn't believe what followed. I had waited patiently for over an hour to see him. Then he finally came in and he was extremely agitated. So much so that he was shaking and pacing around the room. I started trying to tell him why I was requesting to see him instead of his PA this visit. He started cutting me off while I was talking, responding very rudely to what I was saying. Then he seemed to lose patience and launched into what turned out to be a 5 minute long assault on me and my character. He told me that I was a liar and a drug addict. He told me that I was obsessed with pain medication. When I tried to respond, surprised but calmly, he swore at me and told me he didn't care what I had to say. He cited early refills and multiple ER visits. When I tried to point out that I had never gone to the ER unless directed to do so by his office, I was again cut off and not allowed to speak. He continued on in a manner that I can only think to describe as cruel and abusive. I was cut off and shut down everytime I tried to speak or ask a question. This went on for almost 5 minutes and he ended by saying that I was to see their addiction specialist to be placed on Suboxone. Then he walked out. I was so shocked by his behavior that I just walked out without a word. To be clear, this is not about the accusation that I was addicted to pain medication. I have been on pain meds for a long time and Dr. White had some valid points. This is entirely about the way he handled it, the way I was treated. He was overly aggressive, too loud, he called me a liar and a drug addict repeatedly, he swore at me and kept cutting me off by telling me he "didn't give a damn" how I was feeling. I believe his attitude and his rant at me fall into the category of abusive. I felt so degraded and embarrassed by the time I left. Not to mention he has left me with only two days of medication left, shortly following a very painful neck surgery. I filed a complaint with Advanced Pain Care and may file one with the Texas Medical Board. What happened to me in that office today was not okay. I will never step foot into that facility again. Update: I spoke to the practice manager at Advanced Pain Care. According to her, the nurse in the room contradicted my complaints. She said the doctor was "stern" with me and never swore. While it's true he didn't cuss me out or anything, he did say "I don't give a damn what you feel about....". I felt it was inappropriate and unprofessional. As far as him being stern, that is a gross understatement. Apparently Dr. White expressed that he was only trying to help me. Well Dr. White, if you feel that's true then I'd like you to know that you have an *awful* way of showing it.

Dr. Thoreson is great at writing scripts. My wife and I had been patients at his practice just…read moreshort of 20 years. My experience was never spectacular. My needs at the time were mainly getting scripts for thyroid and cholesterol meds. My wife benefited more from his D.O. background. His use of placing vials containing herbs or minerals on my chest while checking arm resistance felt a bit like witch craft. If it speeds up the visit then so be it. At that time I would have given him a solid 4 stars. Now, would I not only give him zero stars but would like to warn others, in my opinion is his neglect of my health care needs. The issue started December 2022. Under his care, I started taking Naproxen Sodium for a shoulder injury. I never exceeded the dosage and told him I was taking the maximum shown on the bottle. He said that was fine as long as I didn't exceed the dosage. He didn't request any kidney lab work prior to taking the pain meds. Later in the month I was experiencing fatigue and cold intolerance. I called to request lab tests followed by an office visit. Paula at the front desk told me that a visit was required before the lab work could be requested. I stated that I wanted to arrive with lab results to hopefully give Dr. Thoreson some information to determine what was causing my symptoms. Again she told me the sequence is Dr. visit then labs. The visit consisted of Dr. Thoreson writing lab orders which I completed at CPL a few blocks down on Jollyville Rd. This was 12/22/22. Christmas Eve morning Dr. Thoreson received a call from CPL that my calcium levels were elevated and that I should go to the hospital immediately. Upon arriving at the Heart Hospital at 45th street, they confirmed the elevated calcium but their main concern was my creatine level was five times higher than normal levels from the Naproxen Sodium I was taking under his care. I was in kidney failure. I spent the Christmas holidays in the hospital getting flushed with IVs. Luckily there's no permanent damage but if I was allowed to visit Dr. Thoreson with lab work in hand he could have caught the extreme levels of creatine and possibly saved me from a hospital visit and the costs associated with it. My wife and I scheduled a follow up visit on 12/27/22 to give our concerns about not being allowed to request labs prior to the visit on 12/22/22. He was visibly uncomfortable during the visit. Possibly because he knew he could have prevented this situation? I think so. The rest of the visit basically consisted of him telling us that I should have pressed the importancy of wanting the labs prior to the 12/22/22 visit. We were dumb founded. Is he really victim blaming us? Dr. Thoreson has never had a good bedside manner but this is so incredibly unprofessional it came across as covering his ass for what he knows he's responsible for. My wife and I have changed primary care providers. In my opinion, Dr. Thoreson is not up for the medical challenge of patients that need more than prescriptions written and needs to retire.. If you as a patient need the most basic care, he's adequate.
