Dr White's office is almost an hour from my house but after A LOT of research (and review readin') I made an appointment anyway.

Dr. Thoreson is great at writing scripts. My wife and I had been patients at his practice just…read moreshort of 20 years. My experience was never spectacular. My needs at the time were mainly getting scripts for thyroid and cholesterol meds. My wife benefited more from his D.O. background. His use of placing vials containing herbs or minerals on my chest while checking arm resistance felt a bit like witch craft. If it speeds up the visit then so be it. At that time I would have given him a solid 4 stars. Now, would I not only give him zero stars but would like to warn others, in my opinion is his neglect of my health care needs. The issue started December 2022. Under his care, I started taking Naproxen Sodium for a shoulder injury. I never exceeded the dosage and told him I was taking the maximum shown on the bottle. He said that was fine as long as I didn't exceed the dosage. He didn't request any kidney lab work prior to taking the pain meds. Later in the month I was experiencing fatigue and cold intolerance. I called to request lab tests followed by an office visit. Paula at the front desk told me that a visit was required before the lab work could be requested. I stated that I wanted to arrive with lab results to hopefully give Dr. Thoreson some information to determine what was causing my symptoms. Again she told me the sequence is Dr. visit then labs. The visit consisted of Dr. Thoreson writing lab orders which I completed at CPL a few blocks down on Jollyville Rd. This was 12/22/22. Christmas Eve morning Dr. Thoreson received a call from CPL that my calcium levels were elevated and that I should go to the hospital immediately. Upon arriving at the Heart Hospital at 45th street, they confirmed the elevated calcium but their main concern was my creatine level was five times higher than normal levels from the Naproxen Sodium I was taking under his care. I was in kidney failure. I spent the Christmas holidays in the hospital getting flushed with IVs. Luckily there's no permanent damage but if I was allowed to visit Dr. Thoreson with lab work in hand he could have caught the extreme levels of creatine and possibly saved me from a hospital visit and the costs associated with it. My wife and I scheduled a follow up visit on 12/27/22 to give our concerns about not being allowed to request labs prior to the visit on 12/22/22. He was visibly uncomfortable during the visit. Possibly because he knew he could have prevented this situation? I think so. The rest of the visit basically consisted of him telling us that I should have pressed the importancy of wanting the labs prior to the 12/22/22 visit. We were dumb founded. Is he really victim blaming us? Dr. Thoreson has never had a good bedside manner but this is so incredibly unprofessional it came across as covering his ass for what he knows he's responsible for. My wife and I have changed primary care providers. In my opinion, Dr. Thoreson is not up for the medical challenge of patients that need more than prescriptions written and needs to retire.. If you as a patient need the most basic care, he's adequate.

I decided it was time to get a primary Dr in Austin instead of in my home town. I did some research…read moreand ultimately chose Dr Wolf because she was an internist and was on ARC's rising star list. I went to the appointment and met with her nurse. I don't remember her name, but she was super nice. I waited maybe 5 minutes in the room - overall wait time was around 15 minutes (arrival to Dr time) - and Dr Wolf was super easy to talk to. I went over my concerns and she addressed everything in a very easy to understand manner. She asked that I do some bloodwork and things, which I did the next morning. Within a few hours, her nurse had called me about an abnormal result and they walked me through that process. Definitely like Dr Wolf and have referred a few of my friends that recently moved here to her! Appointments seemed easy enough to make. I got in within a week, but I didn't have anything really going on like a cold or something. Most Dr's like that will squeeze you in if you needed to be seen quicker, but I haven't had to do that at her office yet. Anyways, I was satisfied with getting in to see her in a week for what I had going on.

I am writing an update to my original review because I have had Dr. Wolf as my doctor for awhile…read morenow and can highly recommend her. This past year was a tough one medically and with losses in my family, and she and her staff have listened to me, referred me to appropriate specialists and understood my own need to advocate for my care and methods of treatments. She has been my primary care person and her staff has always treated me with respect, gotten back to me in timely ways and used caring and compassion. Now that I have seen more doctors in Austin and am aware that they all see huge numbers of patients I am more appreciative of the kindness and professionalism of Dr. Wolf and this practice. She has coordinated my care but it has always felt like a partnership through a tough year. She rocks!

Dr. Lockey did not know me from Adam and treated me like I was a part of her family. I had 7 pounds of fibroid tumors in my abdomen and needed to have them removed. I am sure it was a pretty serious situation, but Dr. Lockey handled me with enough care, sensitivity, and objectivity that I wasn't afraid when I left her office. Her staff was quick and efficient without making me feel like another claim number being rushed through the door. I was informed and respected while everyone still kept an inviting environment. Dr. Lockey performed the removal of my tumors. She had to make a vertical incision, and from what I heard, this would be a long time of healing, pain, and high rates of my abdomen opening again. Well that was a myth in Lockey Land! I was cut from my navel to my hooha and you could barely tell I was cut and had staples in the area. They put a suction gauze over the wound so my tummy wouldn't pull and cause pain, that is not a requirement but they wanted me to be as comfortable as possible. Dr. Lockey also took pictures for me and sent them to my cell phone. Yes, she was not afraid for me to have her freaking cell phone number! This is a woman who has faith in mankind and it is refreshing! She met with all my teammates, friends, and family and took the time to greet them all personally and hug them. They all ended up asking me for her information to be their new OBGYN. I was only in recovery for 45min when it is estimated at over 2 hours. I was walking the next morning and not using any pain meds. I could not believe it! I was active for a person who just had surgery and never had any bleeding or leakage. I never had any setbacks and I am a little over 6 weeks in and back on the football field! Dr. Lockey rocks and you would only be so lucky to know her in your lifetime as your doctor or friend.

I seem to be one of the few patients who didn't have insurance issues, but my experience with Dr…read more Matthew B. Bourneuf was still incredibly difficult. During my first epidural attempt, I immediately felt sharp pain radiating from my spine through my right hip, down my leg, and into my foot. I repeatedly asked him to stop because something felt wrong, but he continued and told me, "You're just nervous -- I'm going to keep going." I began screaming from the pain. My husband and nurse both looked terrified. My nurse even said she'd never seen anything like it. My OB's attending ran in, thinking I was delivering, and demanded that he stop once she realized what was happening. Afterward, Dr. Matthew B. Bourneuf told me I was being "too emotional" and that he'd speak to me once I'd calmed down. When he returned later, he explained that "sometimes we just miss" and that it's "really just a guess where the right spot is." I waited until the next shift for a new anesthesiologist, Dr. Lee, who was calm, patient, and communicative. Despite being terrified from the earlier experience, he explained everything and successfully placed the epidural without issue. Dr. Jay was also kind and reassuring during this process. Five stars for Dr. Lee and Dr. Jay. Later, with confirmation from neurology and dermatology, I learned that the first attempt had gone through my hemangioma (a large, benign cluster of lymphatic tissue I've had since birth aka "a strawberry patch" that runs from my butt cheeks down to my right calf). That explains the excruciating pain -- it wasn't "just nerves." I don't expect medical providers to be my best friends, but I do expect to be listened to, to have my consent respected, and to be treated with empathy. This experience was traumatic, not because the epidural failed, but because of the way I was dismissed and spoken to. My nurse, Carrie, submitted an incident report at St. David's North Austin about what happened. I share this review not out of anger, but in hopes that no one else has to experience that same level of disregard and pain during one of life's most vulnerable moments.
