I seem to be one of the few patients who didn't have insurance issues, but my experience with Dr. Matthew B. Bourneuf was still incredibly difficult. During my first epidural attempt, I immediately felt sharp pain radiating from my spine through my right hip, down my leg, and into my foot. I repeatedly asked him to stop because something felt wrong, but he continued and told me, "You're just nervous -- I'm going to keep going." I began screaming from the pain. My husband and nurse both looked terrified. My nurse even said she'd never seen anything like it. My OB's attending ran in, thinking I was delivering, and demanded that he stop once she realized what was happening. Afterward, Dr. Matthew B. Bourneuf told me I was being "too emotional" and that he'd speak to me once I'd calmed down. When he returned later, he explained that "sometimes we just miss" and that it's "really just a guess where the right spot is." I waited until the next shift for a new anesthesiologist, Dr. Lee, who was calm, patient, and communicative. Despite being terrified from the earlier experience, he explained everything and successfully placed the epidural without issue. Dr. Jay was also kind and reassuring during this process. Five stars for Dr. Lee and Dr. Jay. Later, with confirmation from neurology and dermatology, I learned that the first attempt had gone through my hemangioma (a large, benign cluster of lymphatic tissue I've had since birth aka "a strawberry patch" that runs from my butt cheeks down to my right calf). That explains the excruciating pain -- it wasn't "just nerves." I don't expect medical providers to be my best friends, but I do expect to be listened to, to have my consent respected, and to be treated with empathy. This experience was traumatic, not because the epidural failed, but because of the way I was dismissed and spoken to. Follow up to my review on 11/29/22 They finally cleared all my charges with my insurance company but then decided to send me to collections anyway. I have all the documentation and names of customer service reps who said I have a zero balance and that no further action is needed on my end, yet here I am with a letter from a collection agency. WORST experience ever, especially when I have to fix someone else mistake, After I gave them the insurance information twice, RED FLAG. 5 hours+ and 12 phone calls still not resolved. Apparently they don't notify customers of any insurance issues. The replaced their billing system, still does not work. They said they submitted it to insurance, yet after calling insurance, they did not get it. They lied and did not notify me of any failures. I HAVE A SOLUTION FOR EVERYONE - PLEASE READ THIS! After I was wondering why I didn't get a bill from them after my surgery, and reading all the reviews here, and calling them non stop for 2 weeks everyday with no one answer the phone ever at any time, I did not wanted to be send to collections so I went to their office in person. They are in building #3. There were two ladies at the office extremely rude and very angry I was there. I'm just going to say at some point they were yelling at me, asking me to leave, I told them I was not going to until I get help. They started making calls, and at first I thought they where calling the cops, but I was not doing anything wrong so I stay calm. If you are in Austin, I recommend you to go in person and don't leave until you get a printed copy of your bill. If you give them your information they have a way to look up at the system and print the bill there. At first they'd say they cannot help you, and that that office is just for pre-estimates. They won't accept any payment there, so don't try that way. After argue for a while, they gave me a number to pay, a different one that is not on google, or anywhere else (find it below!). I still needed my account number to be able to pay and I begged them to give me at least that. I was no taking a no for an answer, and I told them I read the reviews and I knew they like to send bills to old addresses and send people to collectors, and I did not want that to happen to me. They got more angry after that, saying that office was about to close (like permanently) and was not public, and that they only open the door because I was nocking really loud. They do have a post-it on the door that says to knock loudly, so I told them I was just following their instructions. I also told them that that's the address the have on google, and also on the business cards they have over the reception desk. All of the sudden, after arguing for a while, and after saying the couldn't help me, they were able to find my bill and gave me a copy. Then, before leaving, I sit and start calling the number they previously told me to see if it was going to work. The guy that answered seemed like he was able to help me, so I leave the office to be able to hear him, because the other two ladies keep yelling and asking me to leave. I was kind at all times, despite them being so mad and rude. I was able to pay over the phone. So HERE IS ALL THE INFO YOU NEED... I like many people here had my bill turned over to a collection agency without ever receiving a bill. Bad practice and it reflects badly on Texan Eye Care surgery center. Wow, same story as everyone else. Never got an itemized bill, and then the account was sent to collections. Called several different times requesting an itemized bill, never received one. Called back to confirm that they had the correct address. The most unhelpful billing office I've ever seen. Really speaks poorly to the doctors who are affiliated with this practice. read more

if I can, I would give them a Zero on review. the procedure was done on 11/10/2023. until now, they still said they haven't got the EOB from the insurance. I was the one contact the insurance company to make sure they received the claim. after 6 months, they still said they haven't got the EOB from the insurance. I called the insurance company and the insurance talked to them they had paid them. but Napa still said we didn't receive the EOB. terrible service! How can they stay in business? Horrible billing! The same story continues-- bill forward notice, overseas call center... I waited on hold for supervisor 512-343-2292 & 833-402-0575 both lead to North American Partners in Anesthesia. After calling several times, I got to hold for 20+ min for a supervisor who conference called with my insurance. My insurance NEVER was billed & we had 2 insurances. -Found out the overseas call center only acts as a collections call center. Was told by Napa Anesthesia Group that they are now doing the billing for Austin Anesthesia. 866-306-6007. They are sending an itemized bill via snail mail to patient at listed address, so we can send to insurance. -Supervsr from call center said he requested an email itemized bill for patient too. So hopefully this will wrap up fast! --I just can't believe how much it took to get this far (more promises & some hope of resolution). I hate giving bad reviews and always try to look for something to compliment. However, this group did not earn my generosity. I have never been so frustrated with a billing service like this. I started getting phone calls from them about an overdue balance on a procedure I had in March of 2020. I paid for everything before the surgery and even got a refund because I had over paid. I thought that was it. The calls kept coming but there was never a bill. So I naturally thought it was a scam. After the third call I did give them my address again because they said the one they had was wrong. I assured them I would pay in full if I got the bill via mail. I even had them read the address back to me. No bill ever came. I assumed it was a scam and moved on. Last week I got a call from a collection agency and said I had to pay it by November or my credit history would be impacted. I was irate! I called the office and they told me they sent the bill to...yep you guessed it...the wrong address. I spent my entire day working with the collections agency and AAG. They were not willing to help at all until I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Before you pay a cent be sure you file a complaint with the BBB. read more

Same story as others, had a surgery Dr used AAG for billing that never showed up. I was in the middle of a mortgage loan and needed $237 off my credit report. I paid AAG and the collection agency IC Systems. I paid both so I could show paid in full to the mortgage company (it was a few days before closing). The collection agency sent the payment to AAG and after months of calling and getting the run around, I finally got a human from AAG to answer where is my refund. I called the 844-775-8987 number (thank you other person on this thread for that number). After being on hold for 5 mins they finally came back on and said yes they have both payments, BUT they show a bill from Nov 2012 ($77) and Dec 2012 ($85) due. Had no idea these were out there since there was never a bill sent over. They gladly took those two amounts from my "overpayment" and will send me a ck in 6-8 weeks for the bal of $75.00. A long story and aggravation for an overpayment of 8 months ago. They talk thru both sides of their mouth, you get a different person every time, and get ready to repeat your story five times along with your address, name DOB etc. This billing or not billing was more pain than the surgery, avoid them if you can!! read more

US Anastasia Partners review. They didn't take insurance info from the beginning. No explanations and no contact with me. They just send you a bill to fill out debit card billing to auto draft. Once I called them to explain I have insurance and why they did not ask me for it or try to ask if I had it. Then they stopped the auto billing and no contact as to why. I call them but get constant run around. This places customer service, well it just sucks! I have already paid them over 900.00. Now they owe me a refund for this amount as they didn't do their due diligence to begin with. I called in 6 months ago to ask for a refund. Then I called again 4 months ago and was told the same thing. Now 6 weeks ago I called and I was told the same thing. Yes, that's right yet another 6-8 weeks. They are flat out lying to me every time I call. Nothing but excuses and lies for the last 6 months! I have just called and left yet another voicemail (managers to scared to take calls). I'll call them back every hour now till I get results! You have to, other wise hey will screw you too! While the care of the anesthesiologist on the day of surgery was phenomenal, the billing department needs a lot of work. However, the person I spoke with was beyond helpful and very patient and understanding--so that's where 3 stars come in versus one star. I get a call from their collection department yesterday, which blindsided me because I know I didn't owe money to anyone being I paid everyone from the procedure that happened back in February. I didn't even have an ID# to reference because I never received a statement--they were asking me personal questions and I stopped them and said it felt scammy to me and they understood and said they'd send me information in the mail. Today I called AAG and spoke with billing. Come to find out, someone on their end entered my address wrong. So three invoices were mailed to a non-existent address. The good news however, is that it isn't in collections and won't affect my credit--which was my biggest concern at this point. I called collections back, explained the situation and they had the bad address on file. They fixed it, took off the late fee and will be resending the invoice for payment. After reading all of these reviews--half are one stars all about the billing department. AAG needs to read these and fix the hiccup. This is unacceptable. read more

It says a lot that they have an automated line for attorneys calling in with complaints. Like so many others I was sent directly to collections with no prior notice and thought it was a scam. The anesthesiologist who worked on me was also dismissive to my concerns prior to surgery and I woke up on the operating table. Will never use them again if I can help it. read more

The billing for this organization got me, too. They took over 8 months to send me a bill saying they were out of network. By that time, my insurance company would not accept a direct claim from me. The local office does not handle the billing - I was routed to a call center with extremely long hold times (several hours). The reps told me that they had things covered then I received a collections letter. I've never had such bad service from any medical provider. I guess I'm glad they didn't get me for more money. It seems I am not the only one with a terrible review of Austin Anesthesiology Group! I had a procedure done in Dec 2021 and gave my insurance at that time. Everything was handled properly EXCEPT AAG. I received a bill from them that I ignored knowing insurance would cover it. But when I got a 2nd bill and looked more closely it showed "No insurance" so I called them. I let them know that they didn't have my insurance information for some reason and gave it to them over the phone. I was told she would file it so I thought we were good. But today (5 months after my procedure), I got a bill from a collections agency! I was of course fuming mad because I know my insurance would cover this. I did call the collection agency and told them I would not be paying since it would have been covered by insurance. She told me that SHE could file it with my insurance and I asked why AAG can dump this to collections but can't file an insurance claim. Of course she didn't know but in reading all of these other reviews I guess that is just their way of doing business. I had the same problem that everyone else has had for years. I find out that an unpaid amount (that I was unaware of) was sent to a collection agency. I discovered that the collection agency was given the incorrect billing address and phone number. So, I was never sent a bill from Austin Anesthesiology Group or the collection agency because they both incorrectly recorded my billing address and phone number, even though all my current info was given to the surgery center before the surgery as I'm sure is required before anyone has a procedure. I only found out about this overdue amount by checking my credit report. Now I have to spent my time correcting their mistakes. I agree with other reviewers. The doctor was good. The billing department charged my debit card without authorization. I suspect they got the account number from the surgery group. I was planning to pay them from another account. When a large sum was missing and the bank statement read "Patient Pay" I had to spend quite a bit of time running down information as to who took my Monet WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION. The woman on the phone said I went on the web and paid my bill. I did not do this. The account I was going to pay them from has no credit card associated with it. The problem is, I pay cable and utilities from my debit account. I am not an attorney but I suspect this is illegal. In my opinion it's SLEAZY. read more

I could take every other review here and just cut and paste it into my review, because the words are exactly the same. Anesthesiologist was wonderful during my procedure. Was very patient and comforting. Explained everything that was going to happen, and I was so pleased with him and his team. That was in May. Yesterday, I got what sounded like a scammy phone call from them saying that I owed them money. By this time, I had no idea who this was or what it was about. So I called them directly. Got a phone tree that finally got me to a recording that asked for an account number. I didn't have an account number; I didn't even know what this was about! So I called back....again and again and again. Kept getting recordings at every extension I tried. FINALLY got a human who said that she'd been getting a LOT of these calls lately - that people were getting scammy-sounding phone calls saying they owed money. That, when she looked into their account, it turns out that the address had been entered incorrectly, so the person had never gotten a bill. That everyone she was talking to was angry. That she'd spoken to her supervisor alerting them to the types of calls she was getting and how they really needed to make some changes in the process for the patients. My address had been entered wrong in their system, so I had no idea I owed money. Excuse me. But if you want money from me, it's up to YOU to bill me properly. I'm not going to go out and ask you if you want money from me. You don't send me a bill, I don't pay. Simple as that. So you need to fix whatever problem is happening where you are not getting the addresses correct. Seconding (thirding, HUNDREDING) the other comments who say that the Billing Dept of this group is horrible. Someone needs to be reading these reviews and listening to the feedback they're getting from the calls. WE'RE TELLING YOU THERE'S A PROBLEM - ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION, AAG? I got the idea from the over 90 poor reviews for this group posted on Google. After months of dealing with this group under the assumption that it was an ethical, legitimate business (as one might considering it's the billing services of a physician) I wasted a lot of time. I spent many months trying to get this group to submit a claim to my insurance company. I also sent a complaint to the Texas Medical Board and will also send one to the hospital medical staff office. After contacting many government agencies I couldn't find anyone under whose jurisdiction this falls. The unethical activities of this group has been going on for years and will continue to do so as long as the physicians are not held directly accountable. read more

What a horrible billing experience. Never got a bill, just a sketchy looking text with a URL that could not be typed into a pc, just got an error. Tried calling them, they could not find my bill. I used the phone number provided by my insurance from the claim. I could not get a valid website from them to pay, there was the option to pay by phone, but you had to have the account number from the bill you didn't get. The account number on my insurance EOB was apparently not correct according to the representatives from Austin Anesthesiology Group. I can't believe they stay in business when you need an act of congress just to pay them! I was able to find a website for the business they are now part of NAPA AA. I made a payment, but with the account number my insurance company gave me. I figured if it could not find an account it would not take my payment? Well, it took my payment but did not give me a receipt. All I got was a message that I took a screen shot of. The last 4 of the card and approval number have been redacted by me to protect my info. I am having surgery tomorrow and unfortunately, I know I will go through this same mess again. read more

This is a terrible anesthesiology group. This provider whom we never interacted with got our address wrong. They sent bills to the wrong address, never called us (they had the right number) and then sent our bill to collections. Total idiots. Only because I received a credit alert did I find out they had not been paid by insurance. I helped them get paid by our insurance (who paid 100% preventive care item) but they never bothered to inform the collection agency or the credit bureau. The lady I talked to was not able to do anything to clear up the mess and basically told me that there was nothing she could do since they had sold the account to the collection agency. The quality of care seems to be good. However, the billing department is very misleading and dishonest. They quoted me a cash price. Because it was covered by my insurance, I submitted to Blue Cross Blue Shield. BCBS paid them almost twice the cash price but they still sent me a bill for even MORE than the upfront cash price (after being paid by insurance). Now I've finally paid them in full after a serious of calls and they're sending me bills for late fees. These guys are insane! The team who answers the phone sound like robots and are incapable of independent thought. They just recite back their talking points even if they don't make sense. read more

My story is the same as the other reviewers - instead of sending my bill to the address I gave on all my forms when I was in labor at the hospital, they inexplicably sent it to a 15 year-old address. They were the only medical provider who did this. The hospital, doctor, radiologist and pediatrician all managed to get invoices to my correct address and I paid them - but not Austin Anesthesiology Group. So it went into collections and all the while I had no clue. I only discovered this while trying to apply for a mortgage loan. Now I'm having to wrangle a nasty debt collection agency, all because Austin Anesthesiology Group has shady and inept billing practices. Dr. Jahangiri performed an epidural on my wife a couple of months ago.  First, he didn't do it correctly so only half of her pelvis was effected by the medication, leaving her in agonizing pain in the right side of her lower body.  When we notified him of this he said he would be there in 5 minutes but took another 2 hours to come back in to check on her to try to fix the problem.  He had to redo the whole thing cause he screwed up the first time.  That helped a little, but didn't fully get the job done either.  (I know by comparison to our first daughters birth from 2 years before.   When our first daughter was born (at the same hospital) we also had an epidural (done by the same anesthesiologist group).  We paid $1500 at the hospital, were told thats all we would pay and then later got a bill for an extra $1500.  I begrudgingly paid that bill because I just figured the billing department screwed up and told me the wrong thing.  Well this time I was told the same thing.  So we paid the extra $1500 upfront for the epidural.  Well this time (again, same hospital same anesthesiologist group, different doctor) we were sent an additional bill from Dr. Jahangiri for $6000!  Yes, the doctor who kept screwing up charged us 4X what his colleague charged!  I called and explained that we don't have insurance and I was willing to pay him the $1500 that I paid his colleague.  Well I got hung up on...  Stay away from this guy! read more

They called back, but left no message - so I called back. Then they told me to call IC Systems - which is a collection agency. The collection agency had no record of me. So I called the office AGAIN and was told they just sent out the bill. So now I am on hold waiting to talk to the office manager and figure out what is going on. read more

While doctors services were good, the billing department is absolutely horrible and has no customer service. I just checked my credit score and I see that they sent a bill in for collections and I do not recall receiving any bills from them directly. Now my credit score has been affected! After I paid the collections agency, I followed up with this group of surly misfits in the accounts department and spoke with an argumentative and condescending woman in the billing department. She was aggressive from the get go even though I was calm and professional. While I'm sure she makes a low wage and hates her job, she has no regard for the fact that people are calling after they most likely endured a very difficult time in their lives post surgery. From what I gather, they billed my insurance and then when insurance did not pay, they eventually sent it to collections three years after my surgery! The phone number they had on file for me was incorrect. So I have had no idea about this outstanding bill. I am completely flustered and disgusted by the bad attitude I just received when I was trying to remedy a situation professionally. I can only imagine the stress that people who are dealing with major medical issues are going through, and this is further proof that our healthcare system is an absolute failure. To me, it seems that these agencies are purposely selling the debt to collections agencies for a profit. Something seems very fishy here. My husband also recently had a procedure and now I am dreading the ghost billing and nightmare that is to follow. I was very disappointed with their customer service and how they handle their billing department. First it's outsourced to a huge firm out of state that has no idea what's going on locally. For example, I had a surgery. I had a contracted amount through my surgeon, surgical facility (St. David's Surgical) and a contracted amount through Austin Anthesiology. I paid my portion in full. Now they are coming at me for the full amount completely disregarding contract. Now I have to fight them. I've worked in accounting for years, I've never seen anything so unprofessional. I called to ask what cost to expect for my procedure a week ago. All other providers gave me estimates in advance, and in the past I have always received an advance quote for anesthesia. Patsy answered my call, would not listen, and kept repeating the same things at me. She insisted she could not give me the cost, and stated that I would have to wait 30-60 days. I called back about 30 minutes later and got Patsy again. She briefly put me on hold and then quoted the cost. There is no reason to subject a patient to this waste of time and rude behavior. I told the surgical facility and my doctor. I hope they change anesthesia providers. Patient care was fine. read more
