The vinyl collection consisted exclusively of knockers, slappers, bangers, and heaters. I saw all of the essentials when I dug through the inventory here: Kano, James Brown, D-Train, Vaughan Mason, Graham Central Station, Hot Cuisine, The Strikers, Secret Weapon, and etcetera. Any Prelude, any Sutra, any Westend--Funk Freaks just might have it. I was pleasantly surprised. The customer service earned all the stars I can give too. Loser and Debo managed the kind of authentic professionalism and good humor that most franchises try foolishly codify in a handbook. Congeniality can't be fabricated, and neither can The Funk! Loser played me a copy of Jammin' Big Guitar by Vaughan Mason, and Debo shared a few polished anecdotes about The Funk Freaks' latest tour in Berlin. Neither man was just chilling in the store though. What is most impressive about The Freaks is their assiduous promotion of all that is FUNK FREAKS. Debo and Loser were unpacking several boxes of black sweaters featuring the notorious FUNK FREAKS graffiti that has now garnered international acclaim for Loser, Debo, Unique, Luer, Ney, Bosoe, Irene R., Clos, Lil Man, Phree, Groove, Aysai, and the rest of THE FUNK GANG. Loser only stopped moving merchandise to sell a Funk Freaks t-shirt to a woman who wanted a Funk Freaks shirt for her 2 year old. They're never too young for the Funk. The mother was in such a rush she forgot her credit card; without hesitating, Loser sped down the stairs, the shop is on the 2nd floor, stopped the mother in the lot and handed her the card. I seldom see that level of sheer effort made just to ensure a customer's satisfaction. These guys are freaks in word and deed. They go out of their way to put the classic funk in the correct hands. Do me favor. If you are a Funk Freak, or a Funk fan, please take me with you to the store when you go. I left hours ago, and I already want to be back there with The Freaks where The Funk belongs. In all seriousness: message me before you go. I need to pick up a Parliament single I should not have left there. Please do not go to see The Freaks without me. I need the Funk. I got to have that Funk!

The Orange Circle antique mall is 100% legit…read more The staff here is very friendly and provide excellent customer service. They can help you find what you're looking for. Based on my personal experience, nothing here is overpriced. Each booth is individually owned, and everyone seems to have their merchandise priced to sell. I've been here a few times in the past and I enjoy coming here to see what's new and to going down memory lane as I look through this mall.

If you're patient enough, you'll find something. There are two stories, so you can easily spend a lot of time here. The pricing is mixed, I've seen some pricey items, which are usually the clothing, but I've also seen some bargains. This is a great spot if you're looking for your next vintage find.

I asked the store if they would still honor it and they said they "have no way of proving it's authenticity." You may not know, but their gift certificates from that time were printed on old library catalog cards and signed by the owner. Pretty easy to see that mine is authentic. I'm more upset because there is a law in California which states "expiration dates, service fees and dormancy fees are prohibited by law for single-store cards." If I misread the law, I apologize. Nevertheless, I'm still upset that I couldn't use my gift after being so happy to initially receive and then to find it again after so long.

Rock and hip hop seem to predominate the space in this small shop. They also sell CDs and tapes. Follow them on Instagram @vinylsaurs. This is the best way to know when they are open as they don't adhere to the schedule posted on Yelp. This is also how I found out about their amazing sale that Saturday.

So I open my package with 4 out of 7 vinyl ,and they didn't mention anything, until AFTER I brought it up to them on instagram. Later they drag their feet with a refund that takes them a week to process, but when I finally nagged them enough about it, they refund me right away. Later on they go ahead and block me on Instagram. Embarrassing, and lack of accountability. OOF. So many better sellers out there than these folks. Ones without an attitude.

After…read more30+ years, it is undoubtedly the largest music store in Long Beach, and one of the largest in SoCal. We were there for Record Store Day. Loved the special deals they offered that day and having the chance to listen to a few bands over the course of the day (and get some merch signed!). I think their old store was better for listening, since there was a clear area for the audience--in the current store, we were tucked between shelves of merchandise--but it still worked and we had no problem seeing or hearing the bands. I particularly enjoyed seeing Violet Grohl and her band that day. Dave Grohl was there, but as a member of the audience. It was fun rocking out with him to his daughter's tunes (even if he was a couple of rows away). Love the staff. Rand, one of the owners, in particular, is incredibly knowledgeable. He also does a great job of lining up events and bands. We had such a great day at Fingerprints!

I've attended countless signings and performances, and I buy a vinyl there almost every month to keep growing my collection. As an LA native, I grew up going to the original Amoeba in Hollywood and continued shopping there after they moved to their current Hollywood Blvd location. I've always appreciated the events they host, and when I moved to LB, Fingerprints felt like LB's version of Amoeba because of its incredible lineup of signings and performances. Since moving to their new Bixby Knolls location, the event experience has taken a step backward. The new space isn't designed to accommodate the crowds these events attract. They proudly increase the vinyl prices for these events to pay for staffing these events while admission continues to be oversold. The result is an experience that feels more focused on maximizing attendance than ensuring fans can actually enjoy the event. I attended the Charli XCX Q&A yesterday, and the stage was so low that I couldn't see anything. Within two minutes of the event starting, I requested a refund because the room was clearly over capacity. Unless you were around 5'6" or taller, the only way to see Charli was through other people's phone screens. When I asked for a refund, the employee handing out vinyl records told me, "Well, it's a Q&A. The whole point is to listen." I respectfully disagreed. Seeing the artist is part of the experience, especially at an in-person event, but my refund request was denied. Even if the focus was solely on listening, the experience still fell short. Employee phone notifications were constantly going off and the front door opened every few minutes as employees loudly turned away customers because it was a private event, and outside street noise frequently overpowered the conversation. At times, I could hear phone notifications and traffic more clearly than Charli herself. I think Fingerprints hosts some of the best artist events and I want to see them succeed in their new location. The event setup needs to improve- a raised stage, better crowd management, clearer policies on phone usage, and limiting attendance to what the space can comfortably accommodate would go a long way toward creating an experience that matches the quality of the artists they bring in.
