I am a new customer to Republic, forced upon me by the Village of Downers Grove. I just received my 1st invoice and it appears to be twice as expensive as I was quoted for a senior. I attempted to call the office. I knew I would probably be on hold for a while but 45 minutes into the hold, the clock turned 5p and the phone said, "Please call back during our regular business hours." My pick up date is scheduled for Fridays. Usually picking between 12pm and 2pm. I see the truck thru my window and when it passing and not coming to my parking lot, for sure he not come back. when I saw him passing, I called them at 1:37pm. Lady said that the truck is in my area and done just 10% of collecting and he come to pick. Nothing. Called second time at 4:14pm and guy said truck is still in my area and done 50% and for sure he come to pick. Never showed up. This company is the joke. Paying for the service that not performed. Called customer service, been told that driver put notes they will stop by. Nothings happen. But bill already arrived for full amount. Friday, March 6, 2026 Dear Shenise Attached is a copy of the letter received in today's mail referencing the class-action judgment against Republic. I personally was able to cancel my contract with Republic and void the demand for liquidated damages by referring the matter to the Cook County States Attorney's Office and through correspondence with Andrew Stanley, Senior Corporate Counsel for Republic. Hopefully, through the settlement process, I will recover some of the money, I was forced to to pay, 434% over the initial contract rate. Your local office informed me that they could raise my monthly rate twice a month, and never failed to do so. Republic was charging me $521.25 per month. When I cancelled with Republic, I signed a contract with Tri-State for $190.33. FYI: I live in Oak Lawn, Illinois. A couple of months ago, when I received notice that The Village of Oak Lawn, had entered into a contract with Republic for garbage pickup, I contacted our village manager and expressed my displeasure. It was Great News when Oak Lawn canceled the contract with Republic shortly thereafter. FYI#2: Your condescending remarks regarding contract law were duly noted. This outfit is the worst or we have a bad guy ? He picks up our garbage when he feels like it and will leave a garbage can full on purpose. My mother would take it out on a wheelchair and would have to bring it in for the following week ? We live in a town where there's no limit by the way as long as everything is in a trash bag or container. This is 100 unacceptable now my husband and I live here and we aren't standing for these games. My husband even tipped the guy 30 dollars because we had so much .he sneered and took it wtf? This company is very unprofessional. DO NOT use them. I called for a Dumpster 9 days ago and talked to 3 different people Tyra, Justice and Rhonda who is was supposedly a supervisor. I am still waiting for an answer to see if they can deliver my dumpster. Today I am talking with a 4th person who said "I see you ordered this 9 days ago and you need it tomorrow and it was scheduled for tomorrow but we cannot get for tomorrow because someone dropped the ball. Now I have to call another company to see if they can deliver a dumpster but will have to wait another week for that dumpster to be delivered. This company, Republic is terrible. It has been almost 2 months since either one of our dumpsters have been picked up and dumped. I have called them myself 13 different times. My neighbors have called them repeatedly also. It's like we give them a big zero I can't score them low enough every time I call they say they'll be out tomorrow or they'll make sure it's picked up tonight and they reassure me. That nothing seems to change and the trash pile grows. I called them again I asked to speak to somebody in management I spoke to 14 different people probably. At management has never returned a call. I'm tempted to get some neighbors hook their dumpster to a truck and haul it out of the alley and down to the church parking lot let them pick up their s***. The sad part is my landlord pays them to pick it up every Wednesday but because of a new incompetent driver who refuses to back up down the alley it doesn't get picked up. This is ridiculous hire somebody who knows how to drive the truck. Anyways if you live in Morrison Illinois if you've dealt with this you're not alone I wish there were more options I'm sure there will be in the future. read more

Small businesses should avoid if at all possible. Their small business contracts are written to bleed off as much money as they want at any time with ridiculous price increases while posting about hundreds of millions in earnings online every year for investors. My bill went from $192.97 on May 20, 2022 to $289.95 on 01/09/2024 to $369.60 on 03/11/2024. Then they also have a removal bill of $1,371.67 for 3 trash cans and 2 recycling cans when I had to switch because of their price gouging. I only went from 1 to 2 recycling cans at their request to help them because they said their driver found our pickups useless since they were usually empty and wanted to come by less often if possible... If you have a small business or apartment building, etc. Find another solution if at all possible. read more

Absolutely horrible. They bought out our local company- that we had for years. We never signed a contract or agreed to anything. They keep raising rates. Raising rate. Raising rates. Every 10-12 months. When trying to cancel service- they "need" 60 days and an incredibly exorbitant pickup fee ($110/dumpster and $30/can). When told I never agreed or signed a contract that included pick up fees, I was told I needed to have a lawyer contact their legal department. This has been HOURS on the phone w/ call center, case managers, supervisor. They don't always relay the messages to have a higher up call me. So when I'm told 24-48 hours for a call, it's really 4-5 business days before I can talk to someone. They are absolutely insane to deal with. I have no idea why they think they can extort this fee from me? read more

I live in a town that uses Republic Services for its residential trash, recycling, and yard waste removal. In fact, I own several properties and have had nothing but positive experience with them -- until two days ago. I called customer service, spoke to an empathetic woman, and felt reasonably hopeful that my issue would be addressed. To my surprise, shortly thereafter, a rep named Greg reached out with a phone call from his personal cell phone to ask for details. He then went above and beyond to remediate the situation and even do a little extra something nice. I cannot remember the last time I received such great customer service! Since we witch to Republic Services, we must say now my life has been much easier. When starting the account my first sale rep was not on top of things... When they switch my sale rep now Janelle King has help me set up my account and service to our needs. When we needed a 30' container all I did was emailed her and she took care of the rest. I have had nothing but positive experience with them. I get an email to inform me of pick up and when it's completed. Thank you, Ms. Janelle King for all your help. I'm a resident in a building that uses Republic Services. In fact, I live about 15 feet above the 4 dumpsters for my building and can hear EVERYTHING that happens down there. So when I'm woken up by not one but two drivers around 5:00 AM most mornings, I'm furious. Where's the common courtesy? Where's the respect for the noise ordinance that's in effect from 10PM - 7 AM in the city of Chicago? Where's the respect for and willful compliance with the request in my last complaint to customer service to come after 7??? By the way, getting customer service on the phone and getting them to actually take the complaint was another battle in itself. Republic should be ashamed of itself. Utterly incompetent. We moved three weeks ago and transferred service to our new address. Republic has failed to pick up our trash (there's a lot of it due to the move) two weeks in a row because the driver thinks we don't have service. We've had to call Republic both times to send the driver back. I understand messing it up once, but how do you screw it up again after we called the first time? I would cancel Republic in a heartbeat but Hinsdale has them under contract, so I guess we're stuck. I'm relatively confident I'll be calling them again next week. Clown show. read more

They were supposed to start our service 2 Mondays ago. We received the containers but 0 pickups. I tried calling customer service multiple times and have just been continuously passed around from rep to rep until I hit a voicemail box that nobody responds to. Same with email - no response. We just want someone to pick up our trash. HELP Edit: after 3 more phone calls finally got someone who had my information at the Mount Prospect location. They skip pickup days, put in a missed pick-up ticket, they don't pickup the missed ticket. Get the runaround when you call. They change pickup days and times without notification. They change rates without notification. Terrible customer service. If you the option of some other service, use the other people. UPDATE- emailed them as they requested, still nothing. Called this afternoon and spoke to someone that said I can get $8.21 credit if they miss the missed pick-up which was scheduled and they missed that too! WOW. read more

AWFUL. DISHONEST. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT USE (if you don't have to.) We lived in Downers Grove and had to use this service. The collection was fine although I had to call several times for yard waste to be removed despite having stickers. The biggest problem is their office and customer service. Misinformation was constantly given and no records of previous calls were kept. The last straw was they lied to us before we moved. When we called to cancel our service because we were moving to Darien, they told us we HAD TO use them because they were the only service working in Darien. NOT TRUE. In Darien, we had our choice of waste removal services and our first move was dumping Republic and going with Groot which is cheaper and no more expensive green stickers for yard waste! If I could give zero stars I would. I live in Downers Grove and moved in a month ago. I have called now 6 times trying to get a garbage cart and recycle cart.. They say they deliver it and continue to give me case numbers but then when I call back they have no history. The garbage carts still have not been delivered. When I call they continously give inaccurate information such as... "on Tuesday when your pickup occurs, blah blah blah" um no, my service date is Thursday. Then they say things like we don't offer recycling. When my Village's website says they do and all my neighbors have Republic Service recycle carts. The customer service people are clueless. Its as if they don't have computers in front of them and simply state "lets see I have your account pulled up here" when in reality they clearly do NOT. Its so infuriating. read more

My trash did not get picked up on Wednesday. I called Republic and they told me they'd pick it up the following day. Thursday comes around, I get gome from.work and the trash is still there. I call a 2nd time and they tell me that someone should be picking it up by the end of the day, if not to callback at 5:30pm. They never picked it up, and I called only to find that they were closed. Friday comes around, and the same thing, I get home from work, the trash is still there. I call a 3rd time and ask to speak to a supervisor. Waited 20min on hold, I get a hold of a senior person but not a manager, takes all my information and said they'd call.me.back. I call back because noone contacted me. They tell me that theres nothing on the notes stating why they dodnt pick up the trash. They would pick up the trash next week!! I said I cant wait until next week, I've already waited with a trashcan full of trash and more ready to be thrown out. They said that I can leave the bags outside. I tell them no, kids play here and it does not look.good and it's not sanitary. I ask for a supervisor again. I'm out on hold for over 20minutes. Nothing got done. Terrible service from sales representative. I call on 7/13 to set up a service and she promised I'd be getting my container within a week. I wait a week, emailed and left her a voicemail to ask approximately when we'll be getting it delivered. No replies. Turns out, she put in the delivery date as September 19th which is flat out stupid. So not only we have trash piled in the back of our business site, we have to wait 2 more months? Jesus Christ. After 15 days of trying to get a hold of her, I was able to have her on the phone. She apologized for the mistake and promised to have it delivered today. This convo happened around 9am this morning. We wait, but still hear nothing from them. So at 3pm I call to cancel service. That's when the same sales rep calls me within minutes (finally) and she's actually irritated that I had the audacity to cancel. Really? How do you expect me to do business with someone that's extremely lazy to say the least. She kept lying to me saying I can't do service with other company no matter how displeased I am with Republic because it's the "law." Yeah well, that would've been more convincing if I had the container and started service. Anyway, she calls back to say it's been cancelled. Given how dishonest and sneaky she's been, I wanted proof of cancellation to be sent. She promised she will email, but she never did. I even emailed her to remind her, but nope. This is the shadiest experience I've had with a company. Do not trust them. Update as of July 31st : The lady finally sends me an email with an attachment that's supposedly the proof of cancellation. It is basically what I received initially except the close date is one day before (9/18) the open date in September (9/19). Plus she added the removal fee of $24 onto it as if I have received the container plus $108 for "extra lift." I wonder if she generated this file to throw me under the a couple months from now to charge me of those fees. I'm honestly confused as to why something so simple has to be shady with this individual. read more

Republic Waste haulers have an extremely inefficient back office operation. Took me 6 WEEKS to get a larger recycle bin; 6+ phone calls; duration of last call (I hope it was the last call) was 40 MINUTES (most of it on hold AFTER connecting with a representative) just to ask what the problem is about delivering the bin I had paid for 6 weeks prior. Several of the reps I spoke with kept apologizing for how long it was taking to enter info because their computers kept freezing or just taking forever. Anyone ever hear of DSL??? Ridiculous time suck just to upgrade a recycle bin. Finally spoke with a supervisor who said "I'll talk to our people in Operations." What a mess! read more

Since the first week of August, I have been trying to get Republic Services to pick up my trash cans. I've sold my house and the cans have been out on the street for weeks. They keep telling me they are coming to get them. Last Friday they told me a supervisor would come by today and pick them up. They are STILL there. Writing an official letter of complaint to the company now. If that doesn't resolve the issue, I'll write a letter to their CEO, Don Slager. RIDICULOUS. Call the Village of Downers Grove,now you're only choice for garbage pick-up is Republic services. I believe in Darien you have a choice to choose Groot Garbage Removal. It is a shame the men who pick up the garbage are very nice. The customer service department is the worst I have ever seen. When you speak to them they are rude and they know they are the only choice so they don't care. They bill you for late fees when the bill is on time and it takes months to resolve the issue. The past two weeks, I've had nothing but problems with their personal and call center. They only recycle paper, certain metal, and cardboard goods. No more do they take plastic, plastic is to go into the garbage then to a landfill. The answer I received was it is to expansive to recycle. "Thanks to China, oh and they do not recycle anything from China". " China does not have the regulations we have". When I asked their reply was " Most Chinese products contain led". I was told to check their list of what they take, garbage and recyclables. I recommend using another waist removal service! They over charge and under preform. Honestly, this is one of the worst companies I have ever done business with. Been with them for years. Received a bill from them in April 2019 for $13.47. Seemed strange since I had paid them in full through the end of May. Called the company and inquired as to what this was for. I was told it was a rate increase ($4.30), a fuel recovery fee ($3.22) so that amounts to $7.52.....oh...a "processing fee" of $5.95. Really? A bill for $13 and almost half of it is the fee to send me the bill? I asked why they didn't just include in the next quarterly bill and never really got an answer. Then I thought about it, the number of customers they have and they can collect $5.95 from every one of us just by raising the rate a few dollars and sending out a bill. I called Waste Management and changed companies (on principle because they cost more than Republic). I called back on April 10th and told them I was cancelling service effective the 12th. They said they would pick up the can. Never did. Called back, they said they would pick it up on the 19th. Never did. Called back again to ask where my refund was and why the cans are still here. I was told they can't cancel my account until they have their cans back.....REALLY?!?!? Informed them I am not paying for the delay. Received a notice of credit $4.81 on 05/20.....more than a month after cancelling and have not received a penny from them. Today I get a bill from them for $42.63. Called again, spoke with David, who told me he would have to have someone go through my billing because it is not correct and the $42.63 was for them to come out and pick up their garbage cans. Buried in their web page under "fees" it states that they may charge a fee for drop off and pick up. I asked for a copy of my contract where I signed agreeing to this, David never answered whether he would send it or not. Then I saw that Jess B complaining about a $15.00 pick up fee.....why would mine 3 times higher? Michele K on 04/18/2018 took 5 calls and 3 months to have hers picked up. At least she got to speak to a supervisor, I have 2 requests to discuss this with one and have not received a response. I was in sales and customer service with the same company for 29 years, if we treated our clients this way we would be out of business. Republic Services is a front-runner for the all-time worst customer service award. When I first contracted with them, they told me they couldn't deliver cans for at least 3 weeks. But, they started billing me from the order date rather than the date I started getting garbage pickup. And they also billed me for a larger can than I had ordered. This took 8 or 9 calls to straighten out. Talking to a supervisor at Republic Waste is like talking to a rock; they are indifferent to your concerns. I called them before moving to discontinue service and they came out and picked up the cans. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they are still billing me even though I discontinued service. First attempt at calling about this had me hanging up after being on hold for 18 minutes waiting for their customer service gurus to answer the phone. Absolutely ridiculously poor service. read more

Total disregard for customer service. Apathetic in their approach to customer concerns. Their time is more valuable to them than the customer's time. Republic Services is quickly becoming the "cable company" of old, in terms of bad customer service. They just assume customer have to use them - so they don't really care if customers are satisfied or not. Seriously the worst customer service experience ever. Paid for service for 20 years and now when needed to cancel service it took 5 different calls to have trash containers picked up-- had to put out and bring back each time when they didn't pick up as they promised. Now it has taken 3 months and over a dozen calls to get my refund check and still nothing. Promised by many that it would be taken care of and it has not. Promised by a supervisor that the check was cut and would be overnighted and it was not. Someone in senior management needs to look into what is happening. read more
