The way this company collects money is quite concerning by the level of threatening, abusive language, lies and intimidation by specifically Ms. M. (Not saying the name just for legal purposes) I was told I had receive 2 letters and that I had to pay, never email, never got those letters, never understanding. Gave me 3 days to pay or they would sue me, somehow I paid with someone's help. And surprise the letters finally got to my house 2 weeks after the threatening. Calls from this business are very rude and inconsistent to what a collections agency should be. For a moment I thought I was getting scammed by the level of nonsense and aggressive behavior through the phone. Less to say the current legal case against them for the thing I just said I also experienced. If you really need help call the (800) number in their website the lady will be kind and actually help you instead of the (425) which is a person that in all honesty violates multiple policies in any company by the way you can be threatened thought this number despite being the direct phone number. They were so harsh in interaction and kept reading off notes from 2013 and I kept asking how can you garnish my wages when I had no idea this was happening and don't have recollection of this bill. I called overlake and they had no history of this bill. I am getting garnished in 2022 over something from 2013 that there is no evidence of. Now as a single mom I have to go find a lawyer and feel the stress of resolving. In a world that already has enough going on this just pushes you to such a negative mind frame. Not secure. I noticed on my credit report that I have a three-year-old collection from an old ER visit when I was in Bellevue. I don't live there and did not know about the bill. I'd like to pay it but the site for Renton Collections is NOT secure and they still use Flash, which is not supported and does not work. I'm concerned about two things -- that my payment to them might not be secure and that it might not help my credit and in fact could hurt it if they don't remove the item from my report. I received a notification on my credit alerts that I had been sent to collections for $67.00. This was from an ER visit at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA. I had other bills for large amounts all of which I paid. I was not notified of the $67.00 bill which is why it was left unpaid. I was sent to collections RCI (Renton Collections Inc). I called on a Saturday about the matter, left a message to please call me back ASAP. Monday I hadn't received response so I called in again, transferred to Ed Clark ext 208. He explained the reason I had not been sent any info is because it is company policy to not mail anything out of state, and I'm in Oregon. I asked him to verify as that sounded ridiculous. He verified with manager that is company policy to not mail out of state which is why I received no notification. I asked what if someone being treated at the hospital lives elsewhere, farther than Oregon and they receive no notification, they just have to catch the collections account appear on their credit. Now I have paid it in full days after receiving the email from Credit Karma asking if it was my account. It's paid in full but I have a derogatory mark on my credit now due to this ridiculous oversight. He explained that because the total balance was less than $150.00 I couldn't pay with a card, only by check by phone which they would need my bank info. I'm not giving that out over the phone and a card payment is traceable. He then told me I could log into their website and pay with a credit / debit card, so I did. Ed was not rude, but not understanding either. I would say remained professional but it must be hard for someone to remain professional with ridiculous company policies. I certainly wouldn't want to be in that profession. Especially since they make no effort to contact the account holder. Website says the company prides themselves on "good old fashioned customer service". This statement must be false with the ridiculous company policies in place. I told Ed I would be writing this review and posting it on all review sites so others will be aware that the company does not make any effort to notify collections account holder who are located outside of Washington state. I don't expect any collections agency would have even one good review, however I just wanted this information to be posted for anyone else out of state who is facing the same issue. read more

I was reported to this horrible place either 9 or 12 times (my credit report said 12; Renton Collections told me 9) by the uncommunicative Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, which failed to send me any bills or warnings before reporting me. After I saw the notices on my credit report, I immediately called the number for Renton Collections; a pre-recorded voice informed me that the person who owned the voicemail box was out of the office and that it "wouldn't be checked" (um, okay). No other details (such as exactly for how LONG the inbox wouldn't be checked). I was still able to leave a message, so I decided to do so, just in case. I had no idea if anybody would call me back. Well, somebody did return my call the very next morning. I, too, had the misfortune of speaking to the rude and ridiculously unprofessional "Sandra". This woman was polite up until the point she identified herself; as soon as we started talking about the charges, she was all sighs and huffs and condescending scolding; she lectured me for sounding frustrated on the voicemail that I'd left (because I'm sure everybody who gets hit with 12 unexpected collections reports is just a ray of sunshine about it), she interrupted me and spoke over me, she refused to answer my questions about how to set up a payment plan, and ultimately she wound up hanging up on me. I immediately called back and spoke to a man who was at least faux polite (he claimed that he would "talk" to Sandra; right). I paid my entire balance in full then and there; I question some of these charges (not having received any bills or notices from SCCA or Renton Collections, despite the latter's claims to the contrary, I'm not even entirely sure what they're FOR -- probably co-pays, but who's to say without any paperwork?) but the $1100 balance almost seemed worth it just to get these people off my back. I'd have preferred to set up a payment plan, but my brief "conversation" with Sandra was more than enough for me to decide that I did NOT want to deal with this company on a long-term basis. Now it's almost funny to read all these other reviews that specifically reference Sandra (although I truly sympathize with anybody else who's had the misfortune of speaking with her -- or rather attempting to speak with her while she railroads over you, then hangs up on you). I spoke to Mrs. Martinez after dealing with a few agents that were not able to help me, she claims to be the manager. She was able to help me with my situation. These people are vermin. After speaking to multiple reps on the phone and each time getting the runaround, I went down to their office. I had faxed them documentation multiple times and each time I would call to verify its receipt, they would claim that they never received it. 4 faxes - Attn: Mrs. Martinez. The account they had was for under 300 dollars (2 bills) for unpaid medical expenses that my insurance didn't cover. Bills were sent from multiple departments and sub groups (from my heart attack) and these were over looked by my insurance. They refused to provide me with any documentation and treated me as if I were trying to rob the place. Very unprofessional and a disgrace to hardworking people who are in this industry. Thankfully I was able to work around them and call the billing departments (Swedish Emergency Physicians and Integra Imaging) directly to get this sorted. (Even though Renton Collections stated I absolutely could not go around them.) I would highly recommend anyone dealing with this company to instead call the original debtor and work with them directly. What a horrible experience and unethical practice! How on earth is this legal? Why on earth would Overlake Hospital choose to do business like this, and with the likes of Renton Collections? Horrible! Last year, I was admitted to Overlake Hospital's emergency room. When the shocking plethora of bills rolled in over the following weeks and months, there was a lot of back and forth between me, my insurance company, and Overlake. There were far too many out reached hands wanting a piece if the pie (one hospital visit equates to at least four or five surprises separately invoiced under different legal entity names, and for things I that were not communicated to me and that I didn't authorize). Several months later, it was all settled (I had given up fighting with my insurance company to cover their share of the bill). My last invoice payment of $300 was sent to Overlake in December. Paid in full! It is now July of the following year. Earlier this evening, I was served with a LAWSUIT by a process server (by way of my son). Renton Collections had apparently filed this case with the King County District Court back in April, three months ago. And this is how I am notified, with a LAWSUIT? No letter in the mail? There should have been accounting controls in place to recognize the obvious error and have it be worked out between Renton Collections and Overlake Hospital. Not with an abusive lawsuit filed against me! The claim is that I owe $300 PLUS Renton Collection's self-appointed legal fees - and the amount is now more than twice the $300! Is this how they manipulate their way through loopholes and around collections and credit regulations? Disgusting, really. It will be a pleasure to report this to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (for anyone who needs it, here's the link: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/). I looked up Renton Collections before typing this review. They are listed as a "sponsor" of Overlake Hospital. Looking more at the relationships of people involved, it looks to me like there are some close and cozy connections between the two (pockets being lined?). About two weeks ago, one guy in particular was peering into my windows and was acting strange and out of it. It scared me so much that I contacted and filed a report with the King County Sheriff that day. I would have never guessed, but now it seems obvious that they were process servers working for Renton Collections. Peering into windows like that is NOT legal. It is NOT okay! It is harassment, violates my privacy, and is willfully intimidating. I have evidence of my $300 payment to Overlake Hospital in hand. If you have a medical bill in the Renton area, PAY IT OFF WHILE IT'S AT THE HOSPITAL. I had emergency room bill from Valley Medical Center in 2008 that was in collections. This bill should have been paid by Progressive but that story is for another review. I contacted Renton Collections to pull it out of collections and explained my story about the insurance not paying it. They said they can't release it from collections and cited policy. After trying 3 or 4 times I gave in and paid it off last month, March 2012. The original balance was $212 but I ended up paying over $300 for it. When I paid the $300 they said I had another bill in collections with a $25 balance from May 2011 but the only hospital visit I had from 2011 was when I broke my foot. I went to Harborview and got my balance approved by charity care. I told them about this and they said they can't remove the balance until I send them a copy of the charity care letter. I called back a week later after searching for that letter, but to no avail. I explained I was going to pay it even though it was illegal to charge me for a visit that was paid for. The lady that answered was EXTREMELY rude and said I had no balance. She cursed at me and said I need to get my facts straight before I call back. I had two different medical bills end up here, totaling about $650. I called and they tried to get me to pay another bill belonging to someone else with the same last name! Not my responsibility. I was very clear I wanted to pay off my account in full, and they took my debit information. It was debited from my account within 24 hours. After 3 additional calls I finally get them to send me a receipt. They only charged off one account, there is still another $100 charge collecting interest. I call again and pay AGAIN. I have STILL not received a receipt for this payment. It has been over 6 weeks of phone calls. I can almost guarantee they are not reporting it to credit agencies as paid. My advice to anyone is do not let your medical bills get here. Valley Medical Center, Overlake, etc all use them for unpaid accounts. Received a statment in the mail from RCI in regards to a "final notice to pay your past due balance of $12.54". Strange, because I never had any other "notices" come from them (this was the first), yet this is my "final" notice "before account will be assigned to Renton collections, inc". Panicked, I called them on today, and was transferred to an agent. "RCIBillingService." "I'm calling about my statement--" "..K. And?" "...I wanted to know what this debt is for?" Sandra was horribly unprofessional. I was unaware of a medical bill that was in collections (under $200). Let her know I was never notified and she stated that they sent me two letters which I did not receive (common complaint in other reviews). I was unhappy but was going to pay my bill in full. She made remarks such as "you don't need to be sarcastic" and "it's not my fault that you didn't pay your bill and it's in collections". I have never dealt with someone this rude and blatantly unprofessional. I requested a different representative or supervisor to work with and she refused and said to pay online. I told them each time that the hospital and my insurance were working it out. Each time the person I spoke to was more rude than the previous. This company's due diligence is completely lacking. I saw my credit get hit in November of 2017. Thinking that I got hit by fraud I called them in a panic. For some reason they had my old address I haven't lived in in 5 years. So I asked them to send me a bill... the bill states this is their second attempt. So they report to your credit after 1 phone call and 1 letter. Ridiculous, as I never received due to their incompetence. I called the vendor (medical) and they had the correct address. So this is intentional on the part of Renton Collections. I think they do this on purpose so you won't have any opportunity to fix the issue. And then it dings your credit for 7 years. This is for something from August 2015 that JUST hit November 1. I have never encountered such unprofessional and beyond rude agent by the name of Sandra, maybe her last name is Martinez, because she literally warned me and said that I was being recorded. The collection was sent to them by Tapco Credit Union and folks it is not like I did not have money to offer, the debt for my niece and nephew on the report was 10,532.00 last reported 07.31.19. I asked if we could settle for a lesser amount she said no we have to pay over 12,000 and she does not have the authority to remove ANYTHING. so i asked her to get me to someone that has authority please. she then says i cannot speak to her boss but she will and let me know. Great! She comes back and says 11,000, the debt is 5 years old, and they sold and made money off the vehicle already. I have 8500.00 take it or leave it. Obviously, you probably don't have a choice if you can/can't deal with these people or not, but maybe the companies that use them could catch some wind of how completely terrible this company is. I am dealing with a medical claim that has been processed incorrectly twice now by the associated medical billing company. I received a call from this agency saying that the claim was again denied and the hold on the collection had been lifted. I expressed that this was again and error that I would need to investigate the issue again, as I have not had any lapse in insurance coverage for any time. The associate on the phone made a comment indicating that if the claim came back denied, that it was denied and that I need to "Grow up and pay your bill". During the time I was being insulted by this company employee, I was asking the associate to please listen to me, at which point I was hung up on. Upon calling back, I was able to speak to a supervisor who gave me the phone number and account number associated with the collection attempt. Both numbers were wrong. Calling back, I was presented with another account number, and again calling the number for the medical billing company was incorrect, and they were able to determine that they were in-fact not the billing company who processed this during the time of my treatment. They gave me a number to the hospital who could then find me the correct number for that medical billing agency. With that agency, none of the account numbers given to me by renton collections were correct, but they were able to look up my account again. They determined, that they had in-fact billing the wrong insurance again. I have since been calling back to try and clarify the situation, but have been unsuccessful in being able to reach a supervisor. I was clearly harassed and asked to pay an amount that I was clearly disputing. I was treated with derogatory remarks. Upon reaching the supervisor, I clearly explained my situation and that after jumping through hoops, I was able to find the company that originally sent my account to collections. I explained that they DID in-fact have the wrong insurance information again. When I told that I was going to be filing a complaint for derogatory treatment, being asked to pay when I was disputing the claim, and for hanging up on me when asked not to, she became hostile. She said that the associate did not hang up on me. I told her that the associate said said "goodbye" and hung up, and the supervisor said that I was put on hold. I was told goodbye and heard a click, and no hold music and I told her that it was my assumption that this meant that I was hung up on. She said that I was put on hold and when I asked, how would I know that when I was not told? Her reply was, "It's just common sense". She then reprimanded me and raised her voice while claiming that I wasn't letting her finish, when in actuality, she was speaking over me most of the time. She snickered at me when I mentioned that the billing was suppose to be to BCBS of California and not Premera. She then indicated that she did not have to talk to me, and that I was not her customer. She declined to call me back to ensure that my account would be put back on hold, when the dispute was again issued by the medical billing company. The supervisor would not let me speak anymore and said "OK, I am putting you on hold now, 3,2,1". This was voiced in an antagonistic way. I tried to stay respectful throughout the process. I have never been treated so poorly and so offended by a company ever in my life. Especially, when I was not at fault for the billing errors in the first place. I wish I could give negative stars. Unfortunately I ended up in the ER at Swedish (never doing that again). They gave me a bunch of unnecessary tests that ended up costing me $1600 after insurance. I received my Swedish bill and was making payments to them thinking that was all I owed until 4 or 5 months after I was in the hospital I get a collection notice for $800 from these people for Ballard Emergency Physicians. I had no idea I had a bill with them, I thought the bill for Swedish covered everything, so I only changed my address with Swedish and the other bill was apparently going to my old address. Trying to pay this off has been a nightmare. Every time I call to make a payment they are horribly rude and threaten that you must pay it all or else (not sure what or else means). I even got a ridiculous fake summons in the mail. These kind of ridiculous scare tactics are not necessary. I'm paying my bill. I just called to pay off the last of it and after being kept on hold for 10 minutes an extremely rude lady told me that they can no longer finance my debt and if I wanted to make a payment I'd have to go to the website. Its sad to hear that I'm not the only one that had to deal with these rude and disrespectful people! After being placed on a hold and talking to some random guy that 'was in training,' he transferred me to Miss Martinez. You can tell that this lady has no life and has nothing better to do than talk down to you. She threatened me with garnishment. She said my minimum payment would be 700 a month or paid in full. I told her that I can't afford that much a month and I can do 200. She didn't even give me chance to finish and was already yelling at me. She was calling me names like loser and that it wasn't her 'f***** problem' that I couldn't pay it. She said she was going to garnish my wages as of today! I asked to speak to her boss or someone above her and she said she was the boss. I asked what her first name was and she said 'that it was none of my f**** business!' There was so much that was yelled at to me that I can't repeat it. She ended up hanging up on the phone with me. I've never been treated so poorly by a company before! I ended up figuring out who the debt was from (because she also wouldn't give me the name of the company I owed money too) and personally called them. How do you review a collections agency? They were chasing me for an unpaid medical bill, so I'm not about to view them charitably. No five stars from me. However Renton Collections Inc were chasing payment on a legitimate bill so I shouldn't blame them for doing their job. (Bloody Emergency Physicians of Ballard, however, sent the original bill to a badly out of date address. Boo to them.) RCI has been unfailingly polite on the phone, but slow to get me information by mail. One note of caution. The Better Business Bureau of Western Washington rates them "F" - their lowest rating. Horrible. The staff is rude and disrespectful and will even go as far to tell you that you need to pay off your doctor's bill of a 1000 dollars in full and they've taken away your privileges of a payment plan. The last straw for me was when last month someone told me that my remaining balance would be 100 dollars less than what actually was. If I don't have the money to go to evergreen hospital, I won't just because of this unprofessional collections agency. SO glad I'm paid in full and NEVER have to deal with these people again. I would give them 0 stars if I could, The worse customer service I have ever encountered in my whole life!!! I called to inquire on a $17 statement i received from them, which was not supposed to go to collections in the first place. I started to explain my situation to the lady on the other end, and to my surprise she said "I don't have time to argue with you over a $17 balance, you act like you owe us $200" and hung up on me....Do I need to say more? read more
