These guys are incredible. True customer service at every level. We hired RTD to drive our moving truck from Chicago to Asheville. As we were loading we realized our truck was too small for all of our stuff. Our driver, Jim, helped us out by driving the loaded truck to UHaul to pick up an additional trailer, bring it back, and then helped us load and pack it. Despite leaving five hours later than planned, he still arrived three hours early in Asheville, the very next day. All of this great service was provided at a very reasonable price. On the front end, Frank, the owner, explained everything we needed to know and made sure we got to know our driver before we committed. Brenda was on hand to help facilitate scheduling and finances. Amidst all this COVID insanity, my wife and I decided it was time to leave NYC for Portland, OR. A cross-country move is one of the most ambitious feats to date and it was all so seamless with Frank's team. He assigned us Julian who is just the best! Such a nice and charming gentleman. He had been so helpful every step of the way. We rented a 22' Penske truck with a car carrier behind it. You can imagine how daunting that would be for 2 small ladies. Julian helped to attached the car carrier and drove the truck so safely with all our prized belongings in there. He is so skilled and kept us updated on his status each day of his travels. Everything arrived a day early and we even for a refund on some of the insurance because of it. We had done a bunch of research on cross-country moves with cars and every option seemed less than idea with very long transit times and horror stories of people's vehicles getting damaged from being on large multi-car transporters. None of them could guarantee ETAs or even know for sure when they were going to pick up our car. Rented Truck Driver was the best possible solution and cost-wise was about the same in the end. At the last moment I was going to have to drive a 22 FT Penske Truck (it turned out to be a 26 Ft truck omg!) but I thought I would google truck drivers for long distance move and found Rentedtruckdriver.com I've had very bad experiences with moving companies and difficulty getting PODS, - not to mention the reviews aren't that great, so my keeping some control of the loading and delivery time was extremely important to me. RTD was the answer. I am crazy about checking reviews first and I couldn't believe the 5 stars given to this company across several platforms, so I proceeded feeling pretty good. I found myself in quite a situation. I rented a 20' truck with my Jeep in tow and was set to drive it from the midwest to the PNW. I got to Montana when I realized I stretched my limits too far. I was in parking lot franticly searching the web for options when I called Frank, in the same call Frank had his entire team working on getting someone flown into Montana to, well rescue me and my family. They had everything booked by the end of the day. The next day Jim flew in, he was so kind and professional I felt like my own family was coming to help. I was in a desperate last-minute search to find someone to drive the 26' loaded U-Haul because I had attempted to drive it and was scared out of my mind. We were on a deadline and had to get on the road. I frantically searched the internet and ran across "Rentedtruckdriver.com. I checked every review I could find before making the desperate call. Almost in tears, and expecting to be leaving a message for a scam recorded voice on the other end of the line, I was relieved and surprised to receive a call back within minutes and to hear Frank's voice, in person, on the phone. I said, "This is too good to be true; you're a real person"! I explained my dilemma and Frank said, don't worry, we'll figure something out. Mind you, I'm calling Greenwich, Connecticut from Sacramento, California and Frank sent Neil to the rescue that very same day!!! Rented Truck Driver combined with local loaders and unloaders, along with renting your own truck is absolutely the most efficient and least expensive way to accomplish a long-distance move. Believe me, I've figured this out the hard way! I explored all ways of moving our family from Pittsburgh, PA to East Haddam, CT. I started in May to find the best way to get our July move done. First, the professional moving companies, then two other possible ways (encountering those pesky, less-than-honest brokers whom you should avoid at all costs), finally finding Rented Truck Driver. The only good part about taking weeks to figure it out was that the price for the total move kept decreasing. After several nationally-based companies said they were booked till August, one of local offices of one of the top national movers sent an agent to our small duplex and did a room-to-room, in-person estimate of how much stuff we had. Result: over $10,000 to move our belongings, and we'd have to wait for about one week to actually receive them in Connecticut after being packed up in Pittsburgh (on a huge truck that would hold other people's "moves," also). Second, I found a moving company who gave an over-the-phone estimate for about the same cubic-footage and about the same time-frame (through not guaranteed): $6,000. Then, I kept asking around and investigating. We actually don't have much stuff and knew there had to be a better way. I found UPac that leaves a container that you then hire the people they recommend, Moving Staffers, a broker, who finds local companies to fill for you. This was a nightmare. They charge you double for the local movers, who, if you contacted them directly, would receive the same amount as if Moving Staffers booked them for you. (Brokers do nothing but take money for arranging things that you can easily arrange yourself, whether it's loading/unloading, or the actually space in a truck, which they auction off to moving companies after pretending that they, themselves, are a moving company). After booking with UPac and Moving Staffers, I woke up from a nightmare where I realized that the UPac container might not be able to be unloaded on our narrow, hilly street (because two years earlier our PODS could not be dropped on our driveway after we moved from Ohio; that was another mess since we had to pay the un-loaders who were there waiting to do that work, then re-hire movers to go unpack the PODS at the warehouse). Anyways, I called the local UPac people in Pittsburgh and they affirmed that they would not know until the driver arrived on "the day of" whether or not they could indeed leave it there. Obviously, everything depended on having the container dropped when scheduled--the packers wouldn't have anything to load the boxes into if the container wasn't there that day, we wouldn't be able to actually move that day after lining everything up for that day/week/month, the people scheduled on the other end wouldn't have a container to unload; we'd have to figure out an entirely different plan at the last minute and lose our various deposits for getting it done that day. I asked if a representative could simply come and see if the container could be left on our street and the UPac people said no: The driver makes the call when they arrive for the drop. I couldn't have the entire move hinge on something that might go wrong the morning of. So, I then tried to find another way. Decades ago, my husband had twice driven our belongings in a rented truck and towing our car across country. At age sixty-one, he didn't want to have to do this again. But, couldn't we find someone else to drive the rental truck? Surely that would be the least expensive way to move. "I should be my own contractor/broker," I realized. Pack our own boxes. Rent either a 20' or 26' truck (Penske, UHaul, etc. and it turns out they don't care who drives the truck, who knew?). Hire a local company on each end to either load or unload (we loved Them Movers in Pittsburgh and Helping Hands in Connecticut). Hire someone to drive the truck. Who supplies the crucial professional driver? Rented Truck Driver based in Greenwich, Connecticut. They have a team of professional truck drivers. The whole move ended up costing about $4000 instead of $10,000. This is THE ANSWER! Truly, it is the best way to move! Rented Truck Driver--all the people who work there--are excellent to deal with. I highly recommend them. No disappointments at all. We had Richard, a sweet, semi-retired, experienced truck driver do our job. He is top-notch. I'm so happy with how it all worked out. Please benefit from my long-journey of figuring this out. If you google "movers," like I did at the beginning, you'll be led to brokers who will rip you off--as well as the people who actually do the hard work. Hire each part yourself.
