Yes, it is true, the cars are not like budget or hurts however, i the name of the place is Rent-A- Wreck. That being said, I rented a car from them back in October and the service was impeccable. The owner and staff were kind and professional. I was not surprised that the car was not brand new. Lance and his staff were so kind and generous to me when I was in a really tough spot. The experience has stayed with me and I try to pay it forward. It just goes to show, you can't judge a place by its name. Rent a Wreck a ran a scam to me with Expedia. I booked a car through Expedia website which directed me to Rent a Wreck. The Rent a Wreck requested individual insurance that I did not have, so I decided to cancel and the representative agreed. Immediately I canceled the trip with Expedia to obtain a refund as instructed by Rent a wreck representative and when Expedia reached out(multiple times) to the responsible for Rent a Wreck(Lance) he denied my reimbursement according to Expedia. I never visit Rent a Wreck or touch the car. I requested the connection of the call to hear from the Rent-a wreck representative their statement opposite of what they were telling me and it was denied and Expedia claimed it cannot be reimbursed. read more

Utter incompetence. Stood for 40 minutes with one guy not wearing a mask. The kid didn't know how to run my credit card, resulting in multiple failed attempts. I called ahead and told them what I needed to move. He tried to rent me some thing that very clearly would not be able to move what I needed. This place is way more than a rental place. Lance, the guy who you will be dealing with, is one of my favorite people I have ever met. He is always positive, always ready to help you and honestly one of my favorite people. They will always work with you if you are in a jam and I can't express how absolutely amazing the whole team there is. I rented this car through cars.com and paid in advance which saved me 10%. I even purchased insurance, although I already have my own to ensure everything was taken care of. I pick up the rental and now there's an additional $150 deposit (fine print) even though the non refundable rental payment is paid. And all these extra hidden fees the lady keeps throwing out while complimenting me to death to overshadow the fees. Finally sign and get the keys to a supposed "upgraded" vehicle with the tire light on and squeaking which increases anxiety of this entire rental. My mother and I ask about the cars reliability to which the young man states "rent a wreck" twice as if to say good luck. He then states the light is on because the tire was just changed and it will go off soon. (Light never went off) Again, non refundable and I need to use a car so I let Jesus take the wheel.... Return the rental and I'm 9 miles over the limit for 50 miles per day ($4) whatever. That's not the issue the issue is when the lady tells me I won't be refunded the entire $150 deposit because it's $5/day addt'l taken out of the deposit for using my debit card. Clearly now I'm over this place and rental process all together. Never was this explicitly stated and she wanted to be so surprised when I was upset. At this point I just want my paperwork and whatever refund I can get and leave. I leave review the paperwork and my online confirmation. No where does it state $5/day with deposit. I call back now that I've calmed down and speak with the owner. He is very understanding and states he will refund my money for the deposit. But beware of the hidden fees and this lady who uses fast talk, compliments and personal questions to distract from the sham she's creating. Do not ever rent from this place! These people are thieves! I was taken advantage of, harassed and in addition to that I went through 3 vehicles because none of their vehicles are in proper condition! They are unsafe and wouldn't even pass inspection! My car had oil leaking from the tail pipe! And the old woman that works at this location is a disgrace to say the least! She is a money hungry thief! I spent a lot of money renting a car from them then just recently they used my credit card without my permission which is "illegal" to pay for their ezpass on their vehicle!!!! I had 150$ stolen from me! Now I have to file a fraud investigation against this woman that runs this place!!! I regret ever going there! I rented a van through budget trucks for this location. I showed up on my move day and was told I was early (by 1 minute). No van was available as reserved and only an 8ft truck that looked like it was from 1980 was. I left to go to another truck rental place and was later contacted by my credit card because they believed a $50 charge from here was fraudulent activity. When I contacted budget they told me it was for a no-show/ cancellation. I wish I had checked yelp prior to reserving to save myself the aggravation. read more

Unfortunately, all the details were in the face to face interactions. Again, the female sibling depending on her day, behaved horribly. Her customer service skills are horrible and she over charges and gets upset when questioned about the difference in charges. She behaves as if it's her only source of power. Fortunately for me, her poor behavior was a blessing in disguise as I pay less money for a 2018 vehicle with hardly any miles on it with no restrictions. I am provider awesome customer service that reflects the company experience and not an "it's my business and I do what I want attitude." This location definitely should remove the female from the front desk ASAP. But it worked out better for my favor because not only is it cheaper and a much better vehicle but I receive customer appreciation refund money. So thank you for forcing me to go elsewhere and receive awesome, friendly, welcoming, and great conversation from hard working people like myself. Thanks to Lance and Devereaux's amazing generosity, our non-profit was able to afford to rent their biggest truck and haul enough supplies down to NC for hurricane relief last weekend. Their customer service was amazing. The vehicle was top notch and the pin point vehicle for our huge fleet that went down from 3 states "Follow the Budget truck!!". The supplies we took helped over 200 families and countless animals after they had lost everything. It would have been impossible without their help. Be careful. Great prices for local driving but will charge a fee to pick up at Philadelphia airport, and mileage is not included. The devil is in the detail as the notation that "mileage was not included" was listed as a line item on the reservation. But didn't even say how much per mile and no mention that they would charge for pick up at the airport although the location and their cars came up all over a search engine for a car rental at PHL airport. They do ask you that you call after making the reservation which I assumed was for organizing pick up as they provided me with a reservation number. I travel a lot. To my chagrin when I called to get picked up after landing, I learned of all the surprises. And, even more surprising while I was (stuck) compelled to explore their additional fees, manager was quick to drop the whole thing and simply cancel my reservation. GREAT! Just when I thought I was all set to pick up a car. Perhaps it was because I was planning to driving about 300 miles in four days only in NJ. read more

I ended up paying more than I thought I would versus what I had been quoted online. See, online it allowed me to create a 24 hr itinerary, but when I went in to pick up the truck, I was told anything after an 8AM dropoff incurs a whole second day. So this means their policy allows them to double dip, renting the same truck out twice in the same day even if it is returned well before noon. I had not heard of that before but apparently it is regular business practice. When looking at quotes from another company, they at least spelled out two different prices for 10 hr vs. 24 hr rentals. This additional option wasn't necessarily twice as expensive, though. And it certainly would have helped if their policy was spelled out on the affiliated company's website. Just because truck rentals are usually same day returns does not mean that this company should allow me to reserve something that is not readily available. $17/day for damage waiver was added on top of their daily rate, too. The salesperson insisted I buy the insurance because he knew box truck rentals were not covered under standard policies, which was helpful to know but again, the rentawreck.com quote didn't indicate how much this would cost. In hindsight, the baisc $14 protection plan offered by u-haul is probably more comprehensive than a damage waiver, but the "gotcha" nature of the insurance add-on at Rent-A-Wreck did not give me enough time to compare quotes and go elsewhere. Ultimately, I give 3 stars because they accommodated my requests and the truck, though more old and weatherbeaten than trucks I have gotten elsewhere, was capable of getting the job done. Also, the personnel here do work hard to accommodate unplanned needs that pop up, and I've been generally satisfied with the work that they do. read more

As multiple other reviewers noted, this place was a nightmare from beginning until end. It was so bad it in fact, that it inspired me to finally create a yelp account, just for the purpose of letting others know not to bring their business here. The first major let down was the "airport shuttle" that was promised. This "shuttle" turned out to be "Take SEPTA regional rail, wonder through a Blade-Runneresque dystopian mall until you find the PATCO line. Take it several stops, and then get a cab from the stop to the rental office". An hour and a half later, we arrived at the run down rental office which was as understaffed as it was derelict. At this point we were given half-hearted service, and a myriad of hidden fees which were no where close to advertised. After an hour, we rolled out in an early 2000s Ford Taurus, rather than the "Chevy Volt or similar" that was originally reserved. Mid way through our week, the defroster on the car barely worked, which is more than you could say for the brakes. In an attempt to reach a suitable compromise, I called the rental office. The greeting from the lady in the office was equal parts unhelpful and rude. The owner later called back, and was equally disconcerting. After returning the car, and being charged a full $100 more than what was originally quoted, we left Cherry Hill Rent-A-Wreck as fast as possible. Take my advice: Run, don't walk, in the opposite direction. read more

This establishment was very accommodating and friendly toward my needs on a recent road trip while in a bind to find a car to rent for only a couple days. The owner and staff were quite friendly and welcoming to my questions not being from the area. True, the actual rental office was not relaeveily close to the Philadelphia Airport I flew into. However, the owner was able to provide me clear instructions traveling by rail to a pick-up point where I was then taken to the rental office. As well as at the end of my trip I was provided the same polite arrangements to travel back to the PACO station for my exit flight. The rental process was clearly laid out, reviewed with me, and understood. While on this trip I did have to make some minor changes in my plans and they were able to respectfully accommodate without any extra concerns on my behalf. The car I was provided with was more then satisfactory to accommodate my needs for this travelled trip. Upon return of the car and final processing I was appreciative to find this smaller, yet friendly business to meet my rental needs. *For future renters weighing out the negative reviews possibly read, be aware this smaller business is not a fully stocked rental car company as found at most airports. They provide used cars for traveling short distances or more within the local area at a competitive and economically friendly price. read more

I recently did a one-way Budget truck rental from this location, and I had a GREAT experience. The lady working the counter (Devereaux) was awesome to work with. I picked up on a Sunday morning, and she was very pleasant to speak to, and I was happy to give her my business. I did the reservation online Saturday afternoon, and the truck was ready Sunday when I went in. As a person that used to work in the business (ERAC), I understand that the reservation system (contrary to popular belief) doesn't have any view of the current cars on the lot. Knowing this, i was worried that I would be able to get a truck the next day, but it was ready when we pulled in 30 Min early! Now I did get a larger truck than i reserved online, but like I stated before, I know how the business works, and they don't always have the exact car you want, but they try very hard to meet your needs. To fight against some of the negative vibes on here: 1.) They charged me exactly what I was quoted, and they wrote down the previous damage on the vehicle, and I didnt pay a penny more than what was online. 2.) I know how to properly work the heat/AC, and it worked on my whole 150 mile trip to MD 3.) I had such great service, that it inspired me to create the YELP account, so that all could know that usually people just complain on here. I think this place was great, the customer service provided by Devereaux was AWESOME, and if I need to use a Budget truck when I am in NJ, I wont hesitate to get a quote from here. I rented a Budget moving truck from Rent-A-Wreck last week for a local move. They were extremely pleasant, helpful, and accommodating. When I made my reservation over the phone through Budget, my last name somehow got misspelled, so when I got to Rent-a-Wreck, at first my reservation did not appear to be in the computer. I got worried, but the customer service was great! The woman at the front desk figured it out quickly and changed the spelling so that it was no problem. I also had to keep my truck for a few days because of the details of the move, and she made sure that I got the lowest price possible. She saved me a LOT of money and a lot of stress. She also made sure that I understood the details and knew all of my options regarding payment. The truck itself was really nice -- it was only a few years old, it had relatively low mileage, and there were no problems driving it. Overall, Rent-A-Wreck was really great! They had wonderful customer service. I have rented vehicles a handful of times, and I would definitely say Rent-A-Wreck was the friendliest and easiest experience I've ever had. read more

I have rented a truck from these people on 3 different occasions with no problem and no incident. When my car broke down I needed a rental and decided to give them a try. The Ford Focus they gave me smelled like a college fraternity house after a wild party. The brakes went on the vehicle while I was driving it. They provided me no credit or concession for that fact even though I could have been seriously injured. To add insult to injury the weekly special I was promised was only given to me for one week and even that charge was $40. more than what I was told it would be. I never took the time to critique my rental contract because based on past experience I trusted these people. Lance refused to work with me and raised his voice at me as if I were a child. The car was cleaner when I returned it but they still tried to keep my deposit. I didn't have a sippy cup Lance so let's see what untruthful response you add to my review. I had to put in a complaint with their corporate office. After I had received the refund Lance left me a message stating he was not budging so I would not be receiving a refund. These people are crazy. Lance is rude and I believe he has mood altering medication that he does not take. One minute he is so nice and sweet but once he gets your money-he flips on you! Devereaux was great but she is no longer with company and I see why. If your own sister won't work with you what does that say? Do yourself a favor stay far away from this place. read more

Seem to be nice people... but 'deals' they offer are real rip-off's! You get your quote on-line, and then the actual payment nearly doubles that (pretty huge per-mile payments, various fees etc) when you check out. And the cars they offer are real junk: smelly, huge gas consumption, different functions/parts either don't work or not even present. The bottom line is that from a regular rental car agency you'd rent a new car for the same money or even less and with unlimited mileage. The customer service at the Cherry Hill location is pathetic! I booked a reservation online and I called to confirm my reservation. I spoke to a woman who stated she was the sister of I'm assuming the office manager or owner. Anyways, she became very aggressive and hostile as I asked questions about additional fees she informed me of that were obviously not apparent when I booked the reservation. She was very, very rude as she over talked me and cut me off several times during the conversation. She then threatened to cancel my reservation and stated that she was not going to accept doing business with me! What?? She then proceeded to hang up the phone. I am completely appalled by this woman's behavior and nastiness all because I questioned the additional fees that were not mentioned during my reservation. I called back after I was treated very badly by her and asked to speak to the manager. She picked up the phone and stated that she was the office manager and she refused speaking to me. She then proceeded to hang up again. I starred at the phone for a minute because I was in total disbelief of how rude, unprofessional and nasty the woman was to me! I could have sworn that Ashton Kutcher was going to jump out and tell me that I was being punked!! I called back a third time and spoke to a gentlemen who asked me to hold on and never returned to the phone. I will never attempt to do business with this place again! Beware of these people. They are complete scam artist do not rent from this establishment it is a brother and sister duo up there! They prey on customers who they know don't want to pay the regular prices that you would with a regular rental company i.e. enterprise. So they post this 10 day for $200 than charge you 500 hundred dollars after all is said and done.
