Six stars, and I'd give more if the form let me…read more The best 90 minutes I've ever spent stuck in the sand -- and I mean that as the highest compliment. Took my two daughters out on the Oceano dunes and it was pure, unrushed, roll-around-and-laugh joy. Nobody rushed us, nobody upsold us, nobody made us feel like a number. Just a family-run crew that clearly loves what they do and wants you to have the time of your life out there. And Marlene -- the beautiful dancing queen -- made the whole thing. Warm, funny, full of life, the kind of person who turns a good outing into a memory the girls are still talking about. She's the heart of the place. We came for a dune ride and left with one of the best afternoons of the whole trip. We're already planning the next one. If you're bringing your family to Pismo, this is the one. Thank you, SunBuggy -- see you again soon.

I want to share my experience so other families know what to expect before booking with Sun Buggy…read more On July 31, I brought my two sons for what was supposed to be a fun day riding on the beach. During check in, I watched several customers get charged amounts different from what they booked online, have refund requests denied, and get spoken to in a way I found unprofessional. I became uncomfortable, stopped before taking any equipment, and told the staff I no longer wanted to rent. Their employee wrote "Canceled, customer does not want to go anymore" directly on my paperwork. I have a copy. I was told refunds couldn't be issued on site and that I needed to email the company or dispute the charge through my bank. I emailed them on August 5 requesting a refund of $571.23 for services I never used. They agreed to a refund, and my bank credited the money back to my account. Over two months later, my bank reversed that credit after Sun Buggy contested it using their no refund policy. So they agreed to refund me, then fought that same refund months later, for a rental their own staff marked as canceled. Another red flag: the charge on my statement didn't come through as Sun Buggy. It showed as Silver Lake Towing LLC, while the paperwork itself says Sun Buggie Fun Rentals. If you book with them, pay close attention to who is actually charging your card. I never rode, never took a buggy, and never used a single service. Agreeing to a refund and then fighting it months later is not how an honest business treats people. I would not recommend this company.

We arrived 10 am on a summer Saturday morning without reservations . No real crowds. Only maybe 4 other groups ahead of us signing up. One hour later.... we've signed up, filled in our paperwork, watched a safety video, get our helmets, we were instructed to walk approximately 75 yards to a waiting shuttle to the equipment location. At the beach equipment location we were shown our buggy and given a safety talk and instructions on how to call for getting help if stuck in the dunes. Pay attention cuz you might need help. And sure enough we got stuck 10 mins into our adventure. We were told not to go into the 'Do Not Enter Zone'. There's a reason.... Noobs like us would get stuck. There's no market area.... We turned too early.... Following some kids into the danger zone. Support came quickly to the rescue. Super friendly people and was told jokingly 'know your ABC 'already been caught'. They unstuck us in two minutes. YAY! Away we go again. This time we found our way to the allowed zones. We spent the rest of the hour up and down dunes. One hour was plenty of time for us. We returned our dine buggy and shuttled back to the parking lot location. What a fun time. I would recommend Sun Buggy Rentals.

Got there at the asked time of an hour and half early and breeze through check in at the pier. I didn't get the young lady's name but she was so sweet and everything went so smoothly. Than we got on the beach just in time to catch the shuttle to the ATVs. Yvette? The driver was amazing. We got to learn about her family and how weekends can be bay weekends, la weekends, etc. Remember to "Stomp your feet at the first step". The mandatory video was very informative. A massive overload of info for the kid but it was fine for us. Got our helmets and then introduced to the atvs we would be using. They were already lined up and waiting. I forgot the guys name but he was really good at explaining everything. He could tell the kid was nervous and talked her through everything, even showing her and making her listen to what she needs to pay attention to. Than off to the Dunes where the husband battery dies. We called and it got it working but regardless the SAME guy comes in his atv to check up on us. Come on! How great is this company?!? We opt for an hour because we didn't know if the kid would enjoy it. She did. Now it will be an annual thing and we will always use Steve's.

We had a confirmation in January with Enterprise, but a week before the start of our trip, we found out that they did NOT have our reservation, and the original company could not come through for us. They recommended Wil at Ride Free Tours and within a few days, Wil had us the convertible that we wanted!! He worked some magic that no other company was able to do. I don't know how he did it, but he is definitely an expert at making things happen! And without breaking the bank. His communication was top-notch, giving us confidence that he was staying on top of our reservation and it came off without a hitch. I would definitely use Ride Free Tours again and hope to some day.

From a practical standpoint, Ride Free are exceptional. Wil seems to know the roads of the United States the way most people know their local commute. Not just the famous highways, but the right roads, the ones that offer unforgettable views and lead you to small local places you'd never find on your own. His knowledge is encyclopaedic, and it will show when he designs your route. Erin runs operations, accommodation, logistics, pacing are all handled from long experience. Everything is tailored. I wanted small, backwater towns and characterful places to stay rather than major cities, and that's exactly what I got. If you want big cities and landmarks instead, they can do that too. Ride Free can cater just as easily for groups or individuals. I chose to ride alone, deliberately, because it made it easier to talk to locals at each stop and really absorb the places I passed through. Equally, if you want to take on an adventure with your mates -- riding together, sharing the experience, they cater for that just as well. When it comes to the bikes, Wil is first and foremost an experienced rider himself and leads some of the tours. He understands what works over long days in the saddle and will recommend an ideal bike for your trip or source exactly what you want if you have something specific in mind. What I didn't expect was that one of these trips would end up meaning far more to me than "just" a ride. Because of the timing and planning around Route 66, I happened to be in New York immediately beforehand where I met the woman who is now my wife. That part wasn't planned, of course, but Ride Free quite literally set the conditions for it to happen. I suspect they don't often get credited with marriages, but this one belongs on the list. I'll be back for more trips in the future. Ride Free understands bikes, America, and adventures. Finally, if you do end up on Route 66 traveling through Arizona on the way to Nevada, you may find yourself on the Sitgreaves Pass. Near Oatman If you do then stop at the highest point of this winding mountain pass. It's not visible from the road but try to find the cowboy graveyard that I stumbled upon.
