Severe Quality Issues & Failure to Rectify…read more Project: Back patio and concrete sidewalk addition (2024) Contractor: Seth Tomlin (Tomlin's Home Services) I cannot recommend Tomlin's Home Services due to severe failures, poor workmanship, and a total lack of accountability. Despite being a polite individual, Seth's concrete work was substandard and resulted in a project that was both non-functional and aesthetically unacceptable. Primary Issues: Poor Grading & Drainage: The patio was not properly graded, leading to significant standing water. I raised concerns about the grading during the process multiple times, but they were ignored. Mechanical Failure: Incorrect materials were used for the sump pump drainage and base materials of the patio pad, causing water to discharge directly under the concrete pad and would have caused future structural instalbility of the pad (found when we tore the pad up to replace it two months later). I raised concerns about the option for these materials as well, and obviously it was also ignored. Substandard Finish: The project was left with breaks at the joints/edges, concrete splatter on my siding and brick, and a generally messy job site. Total Loss: The work was so poor that I had to hire a second contractor to completely tear out and redo the patio pad. I am still facing the cost of repairing the sidewalks. Resolution Failure: Over the last two years, I have provided Seth with extensive photo documentation and multiple opportunities to provide a refund and cover the corrective costs. While he initially agreed to a repayment in his words to avoid involving his insurance, he has failed to provide any reimbursement to date. The Bottom Line: This experience has cost me a significant amount of money in both the initial payment and the subsequent demolition/reconstruction. If you are looking for quality concrete work and a contractor who stands behind their mistakes, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

He didn't even do the windows he was supposed to do, threatened us with court and also threatened to smash bricks t through the windows when we refused payment due to the lack of quality. The only thing Tim cares about is the payment. he does not care about the quality of workmanship that he puts out so if you want a house that's going to look terrible, go for it.

Additionally, the invoices lack transparency. There is no itemized list of material costs--only a total is provided. The company refuses to produce receipts for confirmed trips to Home Depot and Handyman Hardware, despite multiple mentions by both the manager and handyman of purchasing materials from these stores. Their response has been, "Trust us, we buy in bulk," which is not acceptable without documentation. Workmanship was subpar, with several jobs left incomplete. He line itemed everything we requested and answered everything we asked. The price was very reasonable. Communication from him and the office for scheduling was great and responsive. They used an easy online system explaining the work and contract. Painters started just a couple weeks after we signed. It took several days to paint 6 rooms with a big basement including ceilings, trim, doors, and walls - it was a big job. They did minor patching with sand to match the original texture. Everything looks great, and I'm a discerning customer. No nickel and diming over small things. The workers were on time everyday and left by the work hours we requested (8am-5pm.) They were super friendly and happily addressed any small concerns we brought up. They explained the plan for the next day before they left so we could plan for locking up our cats. The team was quiet, polite, and never complained. Everything was cleaned up and put back together when they finished. We couldn't be happier and highly recommend them if you value a good team and ownership that stand behind their estimates and quality of work. The pictures show some of the work. The corner of the ceiling was damaged with big gaps between the walls. Not any more!

He was professional and personable, and I felt good about hiring him. Months later, his crew arrived seemingly unaware of the scope of the damage. They initially used materials riddled with large knots and cracks, had to redo the work, and when finished it looked great. I was satisfied. One year later, the siding is pulling away from the house and splitting. The work has failed. I have called, texted, left multiple voicemails, and sent Andrew photos of the damage -- always politely, never once raising my voice or making demands. Every message has been ignored. This is from a company whose website promises "satisfaction guaranteed." What disappoints me most isn't even the siding. It's this: a business owner who is warm and responsive when he wants your money, and then simply vanishes when something goes wrong. Andrew has the video of our original walkthrough. He knows what was agreed to. A simple phone call is all it would have taken to begin making this right. They say you never truly know a contractor until something goes wrong. Now I know. I'd encourage anyone considering this company to think carefully -- because the guarantee on his website is meaningless, and when you need him most, he won't pick up the phone.
