Several years ago, I took my Chrysler Town and Country to Fletcher Automotive for its annual NC…read moreinspection and was told it failed inspection due to a leaking rack and pinion, plus a claim that I had a warped and leaking oil pan. When I asked why the oil and power steering fluids were not low and there were no signs of leakage on my garage floor, I was told it doesn't always show up like that and was advised the repairs required to pass inspection would cost more than a thousand dollars for a new rack and pinion and over $300 for a new oil pan. I asked to talk to the technician and see the leaks, and after claiming it would violate their insurance laws to do so they reluctantly lifted the van, where I saw nothing dripping with only a light oil film on the oil pan and nothing that clearly indicated the rack was leaking. I declined the repairs and took it to F&R Automotive, for a second opinion where its owner Fred Vacok (who recently passed away) reported that he found no rack and pinion leak and merely snugged the bolts on the oil pan to fix its minor leak at no charge. I then took the van to another inspection station, where it passed inspection and confirmed both the rack and oil pan were not leaking and later ran that van for an additional 20,000+ more miles before giving it to my granddaughter. It served her well in her last year of High School and into her college years. I've never gone back to Fletcher Automotive and would caution others to be wary.

(she didn't turn her head to acknowledge me until after checking her lottery #'s, lol) they're fairly priced for what they work with. all the mechanics have been very helpful & knowledgeable. i trust them.

If you can find a good mechanic (we know what that means) be thankful because paying a car payment on a used car is not the way to go. Don't do what I've done. I'm giving it a slightly higher review because the lady at the front was very kind…read more My car broke down last week and I had to get it towed to a shop to find out what was wrong with it. Once it was at the shop I figured I'd just "support a small business" and let them do the work. I get a call that they believe the issue is the spark plugs. The diagnostic isn't free (it's literally just plugging in a reader for the warning light) but they say they'll deduct some of it. I've worked on my car before and I have an idea of how long it took in my old cars because I did the work myself. But I didn't have a spot to do it, tools, or honestly...the time and headspace. They come back with $500 for diagnostic, parts, labor. Now I'm a little annoyed because I know spark plugs aren't that expensive, but I thought "maybe because it's a newer car it's harder to get to those parts so it'll take a bit longer". I agreed and let them do it. This is where it gets more annoying. They come back and tell me the $500 spark plug job didn't fix the issue and I need my ignition coils fixed and that brings the total to $1400! Now I'm actually mad. I said no thank you, I can figure something out later but I don't have $1400 lying around, the week of Thanksgiving, right before Christmas. The front desk lady is apologetic, she understands and tells me she'll call me back. She knocks $50 off the job I get my car back. Look...to be fair, my car needed a tune up 50,000 miles ago, and those spark plugs were dead (good job Mazda on making good parts). But $1400 was nuts. THEN I looked up how to change the ignition coils on my car and I was overtaken by rage. The spark plugs would've taken them no more than 30 minutes. The most expensive spark plugs at any auto parts place would've cost me $100 tops, they charged me $160. The ignition coils are expensive, and at an auto place would've cost $600. I paid $300 for all 4 and they arrived in 2 days. The work...to change the ignition coils took 10 MINUTES, 10 MINUTES. That means that this shop charged $164 for 20 minutes of work on the spark plugs. Then wanted to charge an additional $300 for 15 minutes of work on the ignition coils. Which BTW, if they had done all of the work at the same time would have been 30 minutes tops because you have to remove the ignition coils to get to the spark plugs.
