How does Anderson Renewel get enough customers to stay in business? I was taking bids to replace my patio slider and this salesman comes to visit with his fancy briefcase. He measured my slider and gave me a quote of $7,000. I almost fainted, he said oh you can pay it in installments, you would only need to give me $2,000 right now as a deposit. I ended up going with a local company that did it for $2,000. When I see their constant commercials , the people look so fake on them. And on top of that, every single Thursday I get one of their flyers in my newspaper that is being sent out to everyone that has the newspaper delivered. read more

We had 4 windows replaced by Renewal by Andersen last fall. 3 were good. 1 was horrible. It can only be opened 1/4th of the height. See picture. This one is laminated glass. The sales person said it was much better at reducing the noise to the room so I used it. But it turns out the window sash had to drop 1-2 inches when it was opened to the top. They sent a few technicians to try to fix it, only to install a limited travel balancer to the window. This balancer limits how much I can open the window, yet it still drops 1-2 inches after raising the window sash to the top this balancer defines. Now the window can only be opened for 1/4th of the height. I called and said they should at least warn the future customers. If I had know I could only open the window 1/4th of the window height, I wouldn't choose laminated glass. The Andersen person politely told me the sales is a different organization from the installation org and they had no control on what information the sales provide. read more

We had a guy come out to quote on replacement windows; big job; about 19 windows. I was at work and my wife handled the appointment. When he arrived, he asked her to call me as if she wasn't able to make decisions on her own. After the whole walk around, we talked on the phone and he asked me "would you buy wood windows?" which i replied "I don't know, maybe?" and he said, "well we don't sell wood windows." I confusingly asked him the point of the question which he replied to educate me. okay, I get it, but if I went to a Toyota dealership and they sold toyotas and started talking to me about Hondas and Nissans to educate me. I would ask for another sales person. This guy (Mike), was a bit rude, and acted like we were poor, and stupid; like we were wasting his time. $60,000 dollars for the 19 windows (and 1 door) by the way; which was an offer that expired when he walked out. We told him we cant make a decision of that much money in a day/a week, and we would explore other options. He then said "I thought you wouldn't buy a wood window" and started ranting about how this is his livelihood. It became an argument. Maybe someone was having a bad day; we all have bad days. It was an experience to say the least and the only education we received was; don't go with Renewal by Anderson. I hope everyone who uses them has a far better experience. read more

These Andersen windows are 100 series. They are selling them at my local Home Depot but only have single (not double) hung windows. I believe this in part because Andersen has had so many complaints about the sashes not lining up properly on the double hung windows once installed. A friend of mine had several double hung windows installed a couple of years ago and had to call the installers back several times to address sash lock and just poor workmanship issues. I've purchased and installed Andersen 400 series double hung windows over the years and have always been satisfied with them. I would definitely not recommend renewal by Andersen services. read more

1. I was told installation would be in 8 weeks. BUT took 12 weeks. I was not called or alerted to any change. Receiving an email with no explanation after 4 weeks is not being notified properly, in my humble opinion. 2. I chose to have the windows open on a specific side. When they arrived one window was not as promised. I capitulated only because I did not want to wait another 12 or more weeks! If I am told by someone that my purchase will be done a certain way this is a promise. Must every detail be in writing? A company's word should be it's promise. Nice people, solid windows, but get this, when they install them they don't lock properly. You tell the installation people "these windows don't latch shut properly. I have to force the window to latch them." The answer is always the same, "Let them settle. They'll be fine in a week or two." But you'll be forcing them shut forever-- when they are large windows, they take a great deal of strength to shut and latch properly. Just not worth the money for this aggravation. When I complained, no one was interested in fixing. They simply shrug it off and take your money. I'm stupid--I had almost all of my windows replaced, in small groups, with different work crews, and every time the same thing happened. Don't trust them. read more

Purchased an Andersen sliding glass door. Thoroughly inspected the entire shipping packaging. Absolutely no reason to suspect any damage to the product. So we removed the old door fully expecting to install the new door with no issues. Come to find out the door was damaged. It was obviously damaged before it was packaged and shipped. This level of negligence on the part of Andersen Corporation is unacceptable. While they are replacing the door under warranty, I now have to pay more that the original installation cost due to Andersen's incompetence. I'll never purchase another Andersen product. read more

After waiting weeks for my windows to be ready, the install crew showed up and told me that they could not accomodiate the connection for my alarm system. Both Adrian (the sales person) and Mark (the PM who came out to inspect and remeasure etc) said nothing about this being a problem. It would cost another $3,400 to modify my alarm system to accomodiate these windows. Frankly on top of the almost $40K for 10 windows this was more than I could take. After many calls with Scott the manager and my alarm company, Adrian called to tell me that I am still responsible for the cost of the windows and that they would be taking legal action. Frankly, his nasty comments and behavior caused me to send the team away without any further discussion. This is all very shocking to me because I have several other Anderson replacement windows in my home already. Well, I didn't hire them to do any work because their prices were bananas. I needed a basic window for my basement and a backdoor with a blind in the glass. They couldn't do the blind inside the glass. Still, they quoted me $13K for the job. I almost laughed out loud. They said they'd knock 10% off if I signed today. Nope! So, I hired an alternative company to do the basement window. It was $1,000 for a Milgard, install included. I found the door (with blind) I wanted at Home Depot, so I bought it and installed it myself. It was $1,300. Throw in the trim and various materials and I still got it all done for under $2,500. Say what you will about Home Depot doors, but it's sturdy and has the blind inside the glass like I wanted. I'm very happy I did not get ripped off by RBW. read more

we had the windows installed less than 5 years ago. the bay window wood is chipping. The consultant told me it was water damage as I had a plant I. the window. When they came out it was agreed it was not water damage. long story short they were due here today to fix but they call to let us know they received plastic not wood. I'm suspect as they wanted to come in the morning and I told them that would not work so the afternoon was scheduled. then the day before they wanted to move to morning. (second time they tried this). The money we spent to have our windows done we should be treated better. and with the initial install they had to replace some of the cedar and the tech was given plastic siding. I had my windows done a little over 5 years ago. As far as the people, very professional down to the install. The actual window, not so much. I have had to replace the lock on one of the windows twice. for the amount of money I paid to have them installed this should not be happening. I had 9 more windows to replace and used another company just for this reason. Windows are an investment and the amount of money we spend the locks should not be breaking every couple years. read more

They left dozens of nails and screws in my driveway and I got a flat on New Years day. I paid $18,000 for two sliding doors and two very large sliding windows. All four units had to be removed and reinstalled AFTER I had them stained and finished. More than four visits later they still don't operate properly. One of their "expert" people came out to look at the problems. This guy could not figure out that the jambs were not parallel to the door even after I explained it to him. He had no clue!! I wish I had searched for reviews before using Renewal by Anderson. We're from MN, near where the windows are made, and many people use them in MN so we thought they'd be a good company. Well, they're not. We were told the windows would be done one room at a time since the work was done in winter. Not true. They took out ALL the windows at once and we had to turn off our heat so as to not pay for heat to just go out the holes. We were told each room would be completed fully before moving onto the next room. They did the basic install first and only completed one room the first day. We were told they train their own installation crews and don't use outside contractors. Maybe they do, but their crew didn't speak much English so it felt like a random contract crew. How can I ask what's going on when the lead contractor doesn't even understand what I'm saying?! I train employees internationally and deal with language barriers regularly. This was beyond a simple language barrier. I'd have to have spoken Spanish to communicate with the crew. The job felt rushed and we later see it was. They finished at 7pm and since it was December, it's dark and we couldn't see much. They took us around to look at the windows and it looked decent. Then, come morning and we start seeing all the flaws. We even had nails sticking out of the trim, putty/caulking missing on some trim, and overall shoddy work. We have been working to fix the issues with the trim and may have to replace some of it because it's so bad. Some may wonder why we don't call Renewal by Anderson to have them fix the issues, but why would we want people who can't do the work correctly to do more incorrect work? We paid about $23k for our windows and I hate that we did. Going with Renewal by Anderson is one decision I truly regret. If I could back in time, I'd work with someone else. I feel as though I received Home Depot level work at Renewal by Anderson pricing. I feel ripped off. read more

Extremely frustrated by their advertising and horrible used car tactics. I was getting 2-4 contacts a week by the local Northern Nevada location and it was buy one and get the second 40% off. I have a modest 1700 sq ft house I wanted to upgrade and put new windows in being the originals were not that very good and 24 years old. I know middle of the road windows should be about $15-18 K. The rep that came out was awesome and then hit me with a $67,000 estimate with all the so called discounts got it down the $53,000. I know the product is good but this is obnoxious, usury and trying to take advantage of people because the demand is so high with construction and real estate, but that doesnt mean robbing people is okay. I was even willing to pay up to double the price because of the quality but coming at me over 4X the cost of a Milgard is just a bad approach. Hey, Andersen, its not a discount if you start from a quadruple cost to still be well over triple the price, what a nasty way to do business and is really taking advantage of people. Even after all of this and me leaving a candid response to their survey they keep sending me mailers, I called and asked to be removed and the lady who answered was borderline condescending and wouldn't listen to anything.. read more

It's been 1 year since the installation began. Even though we have been charged for the entirety of the installation, it is still not complete. They have repeatedly left the job with sub-par quality, I still have the caulk surrounding a front window that looks like it was applied by my 7 year old. This was AFTER they fixed it once before. I wanted triple pane and glazed windows that were offered in the catalog, but the guy who came out to sell me the windows told me they were not available. So we went with what he recommended. Now I have ice on the inside of my windows, and enough condensation to fill my bathtub. My "old" and "cheap" home depot windows that I installed 15 years ago never had this issue. This is after the company had to come back out and reinstall my windows after they installed them backwards and without the flashing that is required by code. The kicker is that I had installed the interior framing on four windows before I realized that they were put in backwards. I didn't figure this out until the next day, when I could open the windows after the caulk and insulating foam had cured. So I had to tear off the framing, which I had caulked and painted the day prior. I had taken 3 days off work to finish these and now I was left with wasted time and materials. Then, another Renewal guy tried to cover the mess up and tell me that the windows were installed correctly and looked better having them go in opposite directions. How does that work with three windows on one side? I asked for them to replace the materials I had used for the interior framing of the windows and was told it wouldn't be a problem. Three weeks went by, and nothing showed up. I had bought new stuff and installed the frames on my own. Nobody wants giant ugly holes on the inside of their house for weeks. When I mentioned the ice and waterfalls in my windows, I was told that my humidity levels were high. However, due to the medical condition of one of the residents, this is strictly monitored with multiple hygrometers. I called into question the calibration of their equipment, what system they used and if they had documentation, but no one at renewal knew what any of that meant. I have more I could go into, but I'll refrain for now. My final position is that I am left with heavy condensation in my brand new windows that build up with ice on the interior of my house for which I will be battling mold for the remainder of their existence. I was credited 1500.00 which covers my first 3 days off work and the materials, so there's that. read more

We called Renewal by Anderson and explained we needed to replace 34 windows. I was asked many questions about the property and answered truthfully. I was told I would get a callback which happened several days later. Again, I repeated the answers to many questions. I received a callback giving me a date and time for their rep to come to us. They said both my husband and I had to be present. We arranged our schedules so we would both be available. In the interim I received several calls asking for clarification on the property. Today our appointment was scheduled for 10 am. I received a call at 8:30 am and was told Anderson does not do replacement windows on properties that are adjacent to the ocean. I asked why we weren't told this during my first question and answer call? The rep couldn't answer. After reading the reviews, we seem to have dodged a lot of problems. read more

The salesman was so attentive and personable. I went with them because of Andersen's reputation for quality. I was told they don't use contractors, but day of the job guess who showed up. They rushed the job! My house has 36 windows. I was told that the job would be a minimum of 4 days! They finished in 2! At first I was impressed, but it was about 9:00 PM and dark when they finished. Well when the sun came up we started to find all the stray screws in our yard. I have a 2 year old grandson and 2 puppies. Not to mention the cats. Very unsafe! Then we started finding screws and little black pieces throughout the house. Now my husband in his younger days was a contractor, so this sent him off on an exploration. Half of the windows were not caulked and about 1/2 of the rest weren't caulked properly. He ended up caulking the windows himself because getting a call back once the job was done was impossible!! I had 8 Anderson casements installed in the early '00's and 6 of the cranks are in various levels of decay, which began maybe 3-5 years after they were installed. DO NOT USE ANDERSON FOR ANYTHING!!! Is there anything lower than 1 or Zero stars? I would never use this horrible company again. Our install date was moved multiple times. We were told that they do not use contractors for installation, but low and behold contractors showed up for the installation. When the installers showed up they did not have a permit from the city for the work. The city inspector came by and told us to stop all work on the house, with a giant 10-foot hole in my now removed entryway. Got that resolved after an hour of back and forth with customer service.. When the installers left the door didn't close or lock properly, the flashing around the bottom was damaged, the side panels were damaged, and they broke tiles in my entryway and left a hole in the wall. The service manager came out and agreed that it was poor quality work and will "rectify the situation". He placed an order for parts, in October 22, 3 weeks after he came out to look at the damage. Finally, in December they came back out, a full 3 months after the initial, and found they didn't order the correct parts nor did they order a replacement door, which of course needs to be replaced as it's warped. Customer service has done literally nothing aside to placate me with new promises of install dates and apologies. At the time of this review, I'm 100+ days from my initial installation and I have to shoulder slam my door to close/lock it. I've now had to threaten a lawsuit simply to get a manager to call me back and discuss. Wildly unacceptable. read more

They will pressure you to buy their windows by telling you that their windows are MUCH better than vinyl windows and therefore worth the EXORBITANT price that you will end up paying if you hire them. They will tell you that they will bring the cost down, but ONLY if you sign with them right then and there. They will bore you with a very long (almost two hours!) sales pitch. I could go on, but instead I will just say: DO NOT even bother getting a quote. You will waste two hours of your life. (I did not hire them.
