3 - To be honest, ours was not a decision based on price as your company ranks among the highest. We chose Andersen Renewal for our windows and doors based on the unusually high number of five star reviews on line. But this experience has been very stressful and it didn't need to be. Communication between your office and myself was sub par at best. A phone call or two along the way would have fixed the problem but no one bothered until it was too late. The following is how I came up with my "generous" three star review. * First off, the sales rep (Kyle D) was very good. He spent a couple of hours with us, guided us through the selection process and saved us money where he could. His portion of the overall experience was worthy of (4 to 5) stars. * Next up was the Installation Project Manager, (Buster S). A big title but his contribution was minimal. He measured and said that he would "send a 3 to 4 man crew to perform the install which would take only one day." He said that he would "stay in touch throughout and follow up when the work had been completed."Ultimately, a one man team arrived (2 weeks late) and it took him two separate days to complete the install. I never heard from (Buster S) a single time after the day he measured. Not even to follow up when the job was complete. For his efforts I give one star. * Next was my interaction with the office staff. Not much went right with this group. Nice enough over the phone but screwed up at every turn. From not calling me to cancel & reschedule the original install date to misinforming me on product availability at the warehouse to short staffing the crew when the job did get done. It was a lot of phone tag, a lot of excuses and a lot of "we're sorry". This was by far the most stressful and disappointing part of the Andersen experience. And for that I also give one star. * After a (14) day delay on the install and our home completely dismantled for that same period of time. And after missing work and cancelling the carpet cleaners twice, the install crew finally arrived to do the work. To my dismay, a "crew of one". His name was (Michael P) and I tried to hide my anger that they had sent only one guy to a job that was originally meant for a (3-4) man team. At the same time, I was happy to have anyone show up at this point. As it turned out though, Michael was great. He did the work of two men anyway. He was a skilled pro. He was quiet, respectful, asked for nothing, never took a break and cleaned up after himself. And although it took him two days to perform the install, the work was completed and we couldn't be happier with the end product. His efforts were certainly worthy of five stars. * Lastly, I spoke to the Supervisor (Malina P). Our project was within her per-view as the team leader. After the initial communication breakdown, she stayed in contact with me until the job was completed. It wasn't always perfect but she politely listened to my concern(s) and ultimately was able to secure a $500 check for the various issues we experienced along the way. We received that check (57) days after the date of completion. Her efforts along with a talented salesperson and an expert install guy make this review worthy of three stars. read more

My older parents got an Estimate for a simple bay window. Guy shows up and does an hour and a half hard sell. Quotes 14k for Install for a simple bay window. Prices for window run around 1500-2000 for The window for any company. They actually think $12k is reasonable for installation. Loool I'm sure the salesman was thinking about some huge juicy commission. Ha not this time slick We had Home Depot come over and get the same job done for $6k. Don't get their sliding glass doors, you are better off getting on from Lowe's. The price by renewal was super expensive and the quality of product low. The door is made up of cheap product which constricts during the winter time which prevents the door from sliding shut during the winter time. read more

I love the sliding French door that Renewal by Andersen installed, even though the price was exorbitant and the wait for installation was long. Within 8 months, however, I had to call for the first repair because the handle had loosened. Two months later, the top track came off and the screen fell off. While they will repair it, the wait time to schedule service is approximately 2 months. For this price, doors should be more dependable and service should be more timely. I wish I had read the negative reviews before I agreed to pay the price. read more

I think there may be other reputable companies that can install the same quality windows. This business played games. When we got the quote they said it would be 6 weeks. Well, 6 weeks turned into 3 months and I was still getting the runaround. The project manager was the one playing games and I thin she had pulled the wool over the manager's eyes. She kept telling me it was Loudoun County Building Permit office that was holding up our project. She said that she calls them every week and they still have not done it. After 3 months I called up Loudoun county myself to ask what is the hold up. They never received a request for a building permit. So when I caught Andersen in this lie, suddenly things moved a lot quicker. The contractors who came to do it were wonderful, very professional, clean and spoke English. After the job was complete Andersen Windows felt so bad about how they'd given me the runaround they gave me a $100 Visa card to say sorry. They also sent a painter to come back and fix the drywall and repaint. It wasn't that bad, we were told in the quote this was our responsibility so it was nice that they tried to make amends. I need some windows and doors installed in the back of my house after my remodel. I'm going to look elsewhere for the project. read more

Scheduled an appointment by phone. Received confirmation on three different devices. The morning of, I received three notifications that the technician would arrive promptly at 10a. At 1030a, no one had arrived. I called to inquire and they apologised that they did not have a technician to come by today. Despite telling me three separate times a couple hours prior that their technician would be at my home promptly on time, they had no technician. Horrendous business. read more

We had several windows and a balcony door replaced. They are definitely expensive but they are very nice. Easy to open and clean and the insulation is noticeable right away. We had 15 year old vinyl windows before and on hot/cold days you could feel the temperature change standing next to the windows. The Andersen windows eliminated that. The install crew was fabulous. Clean. Efficient. Nice. Just a great experience. HOWEVER. One of the biggest requests we had for our upstairs bedroom windows was sound abatement. We live about 1/4 mi from a major highway and the traffic noise (especially Jake brakes) late at night or early in the morning are irritating. We were assured these windows would do the trick. "They have 99% argon in between the panes", etc. We don't notice any change, however. So just a word of warning. If you don't need to worry about traffic noise or whatever outside your house, these are wonderful windows. If you're very concerned noise abatement, don't believe a word they say, the windows won't do anything. read more

Anderson used to be synonymous with quality and price. They kept the high price but did not deliver on the quality. I had 16 windows and two doors replaced. Complaint number 1: I was concerned I would lose my hard wired alarm system in the process. The sales rep assured me (more than once) that the hardwire system would not be affected! It was a sticking point for me. He said it was not an issue "we pre-drill holes and leave the wires and all your alarm company needs to do is pull the wires forward" Well, doors and windows were replaced and no pre-drilled holes. When I asked them afterwords they said that was the alarm company's issue not theirs! Alarm company came out and said all the wires were missing. Now I i have ugly boxes on every window for my wireless system. Complaint number 2. they installed a window above my sink. I liked the old window and was tempted to keep it, it had crank handles just above the splashguard over the sink. But we replaced it. The window they installed I now have to get on a stepstool in order to open! Absolutely absurd! Third and biggest complaint that I find absolutely unforgivable is how they messed up my French doors onto my deck. Apparently they miss measured and had to add extra molding around the door in order to make it fit in the space. The individual doors are considerably thinner, (less than 19 inches wide! than previous one and most of the time we have to step out onto the deck sideways! I've had the rep out to my house twice to look at it. Ultimately they said they can replace it but it won't be an Anderson door since it would be "custom". Are you kidding me!! And that's not all concerning the French door! The mechanism for the screen door was installed too tight. Not only did we have to step out of the door sideways but the screen would only open up 1 foot before slamming back. The only solution was to dismantle it. They came out twice and that was the solution! The freaking door cost a small fortune and it's a piece of crap. And now it appears the hinges are wobbling on these French doors. They seemed to be very confused because it is an estate property. I repeated myself so often to their inquiries..it became exhausting. Spoke with one agent, then her supervisor - Suz****. The experience didnt get better with a manager. They ultimately scheduled the appt - but I'm no longer interested in keeping it. Alternatively - the same ridiculous questioning and concerns weren't even raised with the competitor companies I ultimately scheduled with. Renewal's owner or CEO needs to be monitoring these calls. If other prospective customer communications went as poorly as mine did today...there's no question that they're losing 100s of thousands a month. Perhaps it is a blessing. Sadly my experience with this company started off stellar but has deteriorated. They replaced all the windows in our home. Team did a great job. We have had some trouble with a smaller bathroom window balancers keep breaking and needing replacement which was fine while windows were still under warranty. It is impossible to schedule and get service once your warranty is expired. This window has required service a few times I'm wondering why it keeps happening. Now they want full payment prior to completing work. I would use another window replacement company. Even if the product is good which is questionable with this one window the service is not......there is a reason for so many poor reviews! read more

Wow, can't believe how much of an absolute used car saleman scam this Fortune 500 company tries to push on customers. I know this business is replete with hucksters selling sub-par products. Anderson is a quality window, especially when compared with the crap being sold on flyers that come with your mail everyday. Why would you take a good product and sink to that level? Luckily, I thought twice before letting these @#%holes into my house. I have 4 windows that remain in the old part of our house. I am going to replace them. I sent an email expressing interest in the Renewal products, to get a cost estimate. I was called back almost immediately by Anderson sales staff and was greeted with an insulting and unbelievable instance that both my wife and I be present for a salesman's pitch. I said it would just be me, and the woman insisted. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he again insisted. Both refused to make an appointment. I explained that I am the one who will make the decision on this project, and my wife will not be involved at all. No dice. No appointment. It is none of Anderson's business how the MRS and I divide up projects/chores in our home. There is no time to waste "90 minutes" together to talk to a window salesman. (When we have 90 minutes free, we do things with our son, our friends or each other.) I know enough about contractors, renovations and building materials to last a lifetime. When I want my wife to weigh in, I'll ask her. I will be telling everyone I know to steer clear of Anderson and their high-pressure business tactics. Save time and go to a handyman/contractor you know and trust. Ask him to get you some options and have him order from TW Perry or another supplier. He may very well suggest Anderson products, but he will put them in with no sales pitch. Installing windows is not hard. Measure right, remove the trim, remove the old window and put the new one in, replace the trim and move on. The difficult part is fixing up the paint and drywall around the window. Best to have "your guy" do that anyway. read more

I made an appointment for the evening after work thinking that the appointment would not take up too much of my evening. I was promised that the "consultation" would not exceed 90 min. It ended up going over 2 hr. For this time, the salesman (make no mistake, the guy was a salesman and not a consultant) showed us video and demos trying to create an emotional attachment to the windows. After all this time, I got my quote of $14,000 for seven windows. Are you joking? He said, "Don't worry, I can beat that. How does $11,000 sound?" After over two hours of saying how simple and straight forward the installation would be without having to do any special framing, I still get charged $1,600 per window. Some of these "individual windows" go side by side in one opening. So it was over $3,000 to install two windows in one opening just in my kitchen. After I said that was two expensive, he kept pushing and asking how much I thought the windows were worth and then feeding me some bogus information about how PVC (aka vinyl) windows cause long term brain damage. I guess most of us are in trouble because we've been drinking toxins from our PVC pipes. After I told him "No," he asked me for a reason, and I said, "because for that cost, I can buy a new heat pump and remodel my two bathrooms." He went on to push some more incorrect information about how upgrading to Andersen windows would increase my property value more than a two bathroom remodel. Long story short, ask for the quote up front. Also, always be wary and be informed about your particular job before you get someone like this who will give you something outrageous. Enduring one of Renewal by Andersen's illustrious sales meetings was a terrible mistake. It was an hour of time that my wife and I will never get back. And an hour of time nobody should ever have to endure. My wife and I hoped that Renewal by Andersen would arrive, take measurements, and present us with a written estimate for replacing the sliding glass doors in our sunroom. We were looking forward to hearing about the different cost/finish options based on our examination of their online literature. We were instead exposed to one hour of sales talk, with the focus on getting us to establish an emotional connection with the brand. Throughout the process the sales people waxed/waned between treating us as simpletons and treating us as sophisticates. At one point they focused on the environmentally friendly features of their glass and its important to energy saving. At another point they focused on the proprietary nature of their gas technology, how nobody else in the business has the same gas mix. This went on with no real focus on what we wanted, what we needed, and what it would cost us. At the end of the conversation we were presented with a bottom-line dollar figure (no disclosure of the bill of materials or labor costs) on a piece of paper that did not align with our budget or expectations. After explaining that they were very far off the mark, they came back with a lower number. But that number came with the disclaimer that it would only be honored that day. When my wife and I asked if they would give us an additional week to review, they balked and began feeding us excuses. Once the conversation took on this disingenuous tone, my wife and I decided it was over. It is worth noting that, for those that are interested in the Andersen quality/brand, there are plenty of installers that use their product. Their basic line is stocked at Home Depots, with their premium line available for special order. There's nothing unique to the Renewal by Andersen experience! The sales persons will tell you that the strength of the relationship between the installers and the manufacturers will ensure a seamless installation. I can tell you that a competent installer will work to keep you happy. read more

Once the tech came out to measure he claimed that it was going to cost $4800.00 more. we refused to pay extra, and now they are claiming the hoa will not allow them to install the windows, but they want us to pay the full price of the contract, even though they are not going to install anything. read more

Buyer, beware and beware, again! Yesterday, a "team" of RBA door-to-door salesmen canvassed our private community. The "No Solicitation" notice is clearly posted at the only entrance to the community, but it certainly didn't dissuade them. Two young men rang the bell, with one of them launching into his pitch. Told him, immediately, that I wasn't interested, but he persisted to the point where I asked him to leave and that no solicitation was permitted. He responded by telling me that unless the "No Solicitation" notice was posted on the actual residence, they were free to remain on the property. At no time did he display the required county door-to-door vendor permit. Told him clearly that his solicitation activities had just ripened into trespassing and that if he continued to remain on my property, I would call the police. He responded with some unkind words in Spanish and the two guys headed across the street. They threw a note on the ground as they walked away. About an hour later, I noticed a white RBA passenger van (filled with folks) turning into the neighborhood to collect these knuckleheads. The only RBA reference (besides the trade name) on the sticker is the 703-910-5792 and a website that my computer security program blocks. Would be curious to know which of the area RBA dealerships wants to step up to owning this egregious behavior and sharp business practice. read more

My windows look great, and in the 90 degree sunshine I can feel the difference between these and my old windows. I am already planning to call up my sales guy Gooch to make "Phase 2" happen with my front doorway next year. Installation was smooth as silk. Remus and his crew came in and they had them up in no time. And they were very considerate to my wife's request to reimplace the old blinds so that something would be up there until we got nicer window treatments . All in all, I have had a good experience with these folks. I'm looking forward to doing business with them again. read more

We had a door installed and overall it looks like a well constructed door. The price is very high and they love to bad mouth the competition. They installed trim that was on primed and refused to paint it white. You would think that for all of the money that they charge this would be included with the installation. My advice is to look elsewhere as I am going to do when it is time to replace my windows. RBA is very, very expensive and they have very poor service after the sale. read more

I got a post card in the mail from Renewal By Andersen. The info on the card looked good and I was in the market to replace the windows in a rental property. I reached out to them and a representative called me about a day later to set up an appointment for a free estimate. The representative that both me and my wife had to be present for the estimate. My wife and I are very busy and I did not see the need for both of us being present. I asked the representative why this was a requirement. I had received estimates from other window companies and they did not have this requirement. As I was trying to explain to the representative that I was fully capable of handling the in home estimate without my wife, she continued to talk over me and kept hammering on the need for both me and my wife to be present. I finally said "I am still talking." With that, she hung up on me. So much for customer service. If this is how they treat me at the onset of the relationship, I can imagine how I would be treated if I had a problem with them after I signed a contract. Ironically enough, another representative called me about a day later with the same free in-house estimate pitch. I told him about my experience with the other representative, and he explained that he could arrange an in-house estimate and my wife did not need to be present. Too late! There is an old saying...if someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. Renewal by Andersen showed me who they were during my first conversation with them. After being visited by un-asked for solicitors, and engaging with them in good faith for an estimate, the company is unable to be contacted by phone. Renewal by Andersen asks for a down payment to secure a discount immediately after the consultation. While the sales representative promised that the money could be refunded if we cancelled with a week, my wife and I have been unable to contact the company by phone. We will evidently have to hire legal assistance to get our money refunded. read more

my whole house was installed with renewal by anderson windows and doors, so I could say I have been a customer for a long time. But this time, it really disappointed me. Basically, my windows on the third floor by the street are not as soundproof as before. Because the whole house was installed with renewal by anderson products, it is so obvious there is something wrong with it. I called customer service, they kept saying that was because the street is busier/ my hearing becomes more sensitive. But if this is the case, why didnt i complain about the ones on the second and first floor? they finally sent someone to check, and the technician also confirmed my findings and agreed to come back to me later, but NEVER. This is a follow up on a two star review. After posting this review, the triple slider was replaced with a French door. The experience was memorable -- the product installed does not look as good as it does in the showroom. Yes, I understand the showroom sample is new build, and my door is a retro-fit, but I would never replace any of my windows with Andersen windows if they are like this door! I wish that we had spent more and purchased a higher quality product. Yes, our home is updated; yes the French door is more energy efficient, but that is why we spent $7,000! This winter, we could see the curtains moving when the wind rose above 20 miles an hour; upon further inspection, I could see daylight through the door and the frame on the non-hinge side. The hinges have sagged or it has always been installed slightly off. The opening is wider at the bottom than at the top -- when the weather improves I will ask Andersen to replace the door-- the MDF has cracked at the bottom in two places making a noticeable "divot" shape at the floor -- Spend more -- or don't. read more

I had an appointment for 10 AM on Friday. I told the scheduler that I couldn't spend the requested 90 minutes (!) talking to the salesman and agreed to an hour instead. The salesman went through the house taking measurements and we let let him know that Renewal By Anderson had been recommended by neighbors and we planned on making sure the estimate was reasonable and that we'd basically be going with them if it was. When done with the measurements, he started talking about the different divided light options at around 80 minutes in. I asked for two estimates based on two different scenarios for his divided light options. The salesman started talking about "glass packages" and I asked him to include in the estimate whatever was appropriate for our climate. At this point, we're right up against 90 minutes (already 30 minutes too long) and the salesman actually said "I don't think Anderson windows are what you're looking for". Both me and my wife were amazed he'd say that. I can only assume he realized we weren't going to make a decision on the spot and this was his last-ditch effort to get us to make one. We asked him to leave. I sent an email to the customer support site with the hope that this might've been an isolated incident but haven't received any response for weeks. These guys have lost a rather large sale and me as a customer forever. read more

My husband and I looked at many different brands of windows and decided on Renewal by Anderson because of their look and reputation. We thought by paying more and choosing a well-known brand we would have a better experience. We were wrong. We explained to the sales person exactly what we wanted and what our Home Owners Association required. When the man came out to measure our windows we told him the same thing but were ignored. The day the crew came to install the windows we asked that they wouldn't be here before noon. At 10 AM two people were sitting on our lawn. They started to rip out the windows damaging drywall as they went. They put the first window in the opening. It was 4 1/2 inches too short and 1 inch to small on the width. We complained they weren't right and were told they were the size ordered. After more complaints, the guy who measured the windows came out. He said they looked fine. We showed him the requirements from the HOA, again stating that the windows couldn't be smaller. He finally admitted he made a mistake. He pleaded that we call an emergency HOA meeting to ask if we could use the windows anyway because he would get in trouble for not measuring the windows right. After many more calls to the sales person, which were not answered, they agreed to reorder the windows. When they got the windows they sent the same crew out. As they ripped out our windows they placed a small drop cloth under the window, but as they walked in and out of the house they tracked all the dust and dirt across our carpets and wood floors. There was drywall dust everywhere in the house but it was especially bad in the kitchen. The next day they finished the trim inside the house. Before the trim is put on spray foam is put between the window and the wall to seal the window. The person who sprayed the foam did a very bad job and in places didn't install any. We pointed this out and were told it would be done right. That afternoon they "finished" the job. They demanded the final payment and left. What we cleaned the night before was a mess again. The yard was full of debris. The worst was the small pieces of metal and used nails that were scattered throughout our lawn. We found our toddler trying to put some in his mouth. That evening we started to notice there was something wrong. The trim on EVERY window was off center by about a half of an inch. It just didn't look right. We wondered if the installers had sealed the windows correctly. We took off a part of the trim. Nothing was done to fix the foam seal around the windows. We stopped payment on our check and called Renewal by Anderson. A manager came out and agreed it had to be fixed. He took pictures and notes. He said he would give detailed instructions to the crew. They sent the original crew even though we requested a new one several times. When they arrived they did not know what to fix. They did NOT use any drop cloths at all. They got caulk on our carpets and left an opened can of goo-off (the warning on the label says it can cause neurological and physiological damage and to keep out of the reach of children) in our toddler's room. Before they left we inspected each window. We found two windows that wouldn't open and one window had a bug between the panes of glass. After pointing this out they said they would have to order replacement parts. When the replacement parts were installed the installer damaged one of the parts and had to reorder that part again. It took 7 months to finish the window installation. The last month they kept sending us letters saying they were going to charge us interest on the unpaid balance! We got a visit from the owner of The Window Place. He assured us that these things have never happened before. We are pretty sure that's not true. It's just that most people either don't know enough that things aren't being done right or just don't complain. We would NEVER use this company again, and we certainly would not recommend it to any of our friends. read more

I had a large (6' X 6') picture window that had a broken seal. The window was 17 years old with double pane glass and when the seal broke, moisture started leaking in between the panes causing the window to fog. Had "Renewal by Andersen" come to give me a quote to replace the glass and was told that they would not just replace the glass - they wanted to take out the frame and replace the entire window for a price of over $12,000 dollars?!?! So I called a glass company to come out. They told me Andersen won't do just the glass because there isn't as big of a profit in replacing just the glass - since it is only a 20 minute job as opposed to 6-8 hours of labor to replace the entire window. I had the glass company do the work and was charged just under $1,000. The window looks great again and I saved a bundle! From what I understand, most window repairs are due to broken glass or seals that fail. So, if you don't have damage to your window FRAMES (rotten wood, leaking, etc.) don't replace the entire window, just get the glass replaced. read more

Terrible company. Kept us waiting then canceled. Don't do business with them. When we called they couldn't care less.

I would give a lower rating if possible. My elderly parents signed a contact for a glassed-in porch in April with a completion date by the end of June. The company collected a large down payment. They would not return my father's calls and he asked me to intervene in July. It is now the end of August and I have gotten nowhere. I hope it doesn't come to legal action, but we may have to go there. No customer service. My parents feel they have been taken advantage of due to their advanced age. Such a shame. read more
