Missy Garvin is the best physical therapist I have ever worked with. She is knowledgeable, professional and very easy to communicate and work with. She has helped me with the second tear of my right rotator cuff, hand numbness and tingling as well as post surgical fusion of four of my cervical vertebrae. There was some miscommunication regarding my insurance and if my plan required a referral or not. I originally called before going and specifically asked if I would need one and they said they'd get back to me. They did and said I didn't need one. I just gave them the name of my PCP. About 2-3 sessions in, I was told I would need a referral and that it would need to be backdated. Okaaaaaaaaay! So I scramble and call my doctor's office. Had I known this earlier, it would have been taken care of. Maybe there is some disconnect with the billing and front end but a heads up would have been nice. Other than that, my experience after that has been great. Laura is always nice and greets me by name every time I come in. Onto the actual PT part. I had Sarah and she was really awesome! I sprained my ankle and it didn't heal quite like I would have liked so we set some realistic goals and after 10 sessions, I'm happy with my progress and increased range of motion that I have. I am a middle aged guy who in his younger years and early twenties was a big jock. Basketball, swimming and power lifting. Now I'm old and fat, and got hurt at work. I was referred to them and had never tried physical therapy. Very professional from the start,from the people who schedule you to your initial review and the PTA who helps you. Clean and we'll organized. Candice Scellato was the PTA who saw me and her direction and energy was amazing. She is a true shinning star, who pushes just the right amount so you can get going. I only wish I had gone a couple more times to get more direction but I had to get to work. I have been going to Renew Physical Therapy since they first opened in Columbia City. I appreciate walking into a clinic where the staff looks like the community they are serving. The front desk is very friendly and helpful. I know at times I've called with irritation in my voice from pain, they easily put me at ease and figured out the best solution and always except my apologies The Physical Therapists/Massage Therapists, Joe, Erik and Holly, that I work with are always so knowledgeable and helpful. Every time I've had an issue with my back or knee I call, and when the pain has been severe they fit me into the schedule quickly. They are never pushy and help me create a PT/MT plan that work best for my busy schedule. A testament to their attentiveness; when I've gone in for treatment, I've often stopped ahead of schedule. I've found other clinics want me to stick with the full treatment plan regardless of continued benefits. I'm grateful for the staff at Renew, they are a great team from the front desk to all the physical therapists and massage therapists I have worked with. I highly recommend them! read more

I had a great experience after going to Renew for 12 appointments over three months for knee pain. Matt was very knowledgeable and tinkered with my therapy plan until it was just right for my needs. As a senior, what I didn't like was, after discussing my Medicare Insurance prior to visit, everybody changed the game when I arrived for the actual appointment. Now, we need cash up front AND my insurance. This was not what we discussed days prior to the visit. Normally, I present my insurance for clinical services and then i receive a bill if everything is not covered; not surprise!!!! Maybe I was just the wrong color , or they thought because I'm a senior they could scam me. I left without being seen. I was in excruciating sciatica pain for two months, but I have to trust people to be upfront with me. A brief update: Erik, the owner, just called me to try to explain the insurance confusion to me. He was polite and, I believe, sincere. I'm not sure if he got how I felt being a senior who was met with a bad tone and attitude, but, I think he got how I felt dealing with this as an older Black woman. I told him that I would not return to Renew PT, because I was done with "2nd chances" for bad- attitude personnel. I'm just too damn old for this kind of treatment and too damn tired! Have real mixed feelings about my experience here. Got paired up with Nancy to help strengthen my back after being in a rear-end car accident. She was knowledgable and invested in my progress. But after my 2nd visit (just 1 week after my first), she tells me that she's not gonna be there any longer and was a temp of some sort. As somebody who has been in the health & fitness industry it never makes sense to pair a client up with a short term person for a long term job. Upon leaving that last visit I requested for them to email me all my notes. Never got them so I pro-actively asked over email a 2nd time. No response. So at this point I've been going to a different trusted PT who I've worked with before, even though she's at Northgate. Hopeful that Renew can tie up their loose ends for future clients. read more

Great experience at Renew! I needed therapy for work related injuries; the entire staff has been wonderful throughout my. my treatment. I have no complaints. Laura at the front desk has always been professional and gracious. Megan, my therapist is awesome and I would definitely refer any friends or family to her. Renew is awesome and I highly recommend anyone needing a physical therapist anywhere near Columbia City to go here. My boyfriend initially went there for a broken leg, he worked with Sarah (who is WONDERFUL), she set realistic goals and exercises to gradually get his range of motion and muscles back into shape. When he was cleared for walking he was prepared and was walking like a champ in no time. I'm now seeing Sarah for a knee issue and experiencing their gorgeous and spacious new location. They offer a knee strengthening class (amongst other services), so Sarah is working with me to be ready for it. Their customer service is impeccable. There was a misunderstanding with my insurance, which isn't uncommon, but their service recovery was smooth and professional. When I called to schedule my first appointment, they called me back to offer me a better time for my schedule due to a cancellation and worked to make sure everything was as efficient as possible. read more

I saw Erik for shoulder and neck pain for a few months. He was attentive and helpful. He gave me exercises to do at home and always followed up to make sure i was doing them correctly. He is easy to talk to and open to the patient's suggestions; he doesn't take offense easily which I really appreciated. I am often annoyed by commercial radio at medical and dental offices but not at Renew. They had oldies playing and no commercials. I love the location because I can walk there but the few times I drove I had no trouble finding parking. Lydia at reception is friendly, fun and helpful, too. Every aspect of the experience is wonderful end-to-end. The office having two practices (PT & Massage) under one roof I find really convenient. Awesome to have it close to wear I live in the neighborhood, not having to drive downtown. Erik does a great job of pulling together skilled practitioners and front desk staff. One of the more recent staff being Hennessy, she is great and patient working appointments into my crazy schedule. Really tough to single any one them out, as all are super friendly and helpful. I suffered a severe stroke a few years ago and over this journey I have worked with a lot of therapists, some good, some really bad. Now working with Sarah Benditt there and she is turning out to be my new favorite with lots of good experience & knowledge. Her experience on the Neurological side of the equation is really tough to find among the many practicing only Ortho. All along though, I've seen Holly Jackson for Massage Therapy and she's by far the best MT I've ever had! Her business name is Stillwater Massage. Any type of massage you can think of, she can do. Renew is as good as it gets! I had experience with 3 other physical therapy clinics; none of the 3 can compare with Renew's exceptional quality and standards. I had a complete left hip replacement at the age of 70 and they were referred by my surgeon at Swedish. I had one primary therapist. Tana at Renew worked with me and championed me; my quality of life improved beyond any concievable expectation that I could have imagined. I did see other folks when she was on vaca. I received ongoing treatment for a very frustrating shoulder injury that previously showed little improvement with PT. Joe gave me a series of dynamic exercises that greatly helped to stabilize my shoulder and increase my strength and mobility. He was willing to try many different techniques until we got a good result. I also received treatment for an irking knee injury, and learned what I need to do to keep my knees in good condition for running. Both my son and I have worked with PTs at Renew over the past three years. In both cases, the experience has been professional, friendly and successful. The PTs we have worked with at Renew are knowledgeable and supportive. They have always been available on-time for appointments and the office staff has always been helpful, friendly and competent. The facilities on Orcas and Rainier are well-organized and welcoming - large enough to have all the space needed, but small enough to feel personal. I like it that there are always 3-5 patients working with PTs at a time so that I don't feel alone, but it isn't crowded either. I suffered an upper back injury at work a few years ago that left me with some chronic back pain. My pain started getting worse, and I finally decided to see a PT for it because it was affecting my ability to work. I started working with Chelsea, and she has helped bring my pain down to nearly a zero. She is incredibly knowledgeable, and created a treatment plan for me with goals that are achievable and that provide results. First of all, I hardly ever leave reviews.. but after my experience I feel that I need to. I've had back pain for YEARS! Went to chiropractor after chiropractor that each told me the problem could be fixed but needed to go in 3 times a week for about a year. All they would do is adjust and have me come back... Finally took some advice and went to a physical therapist. I had just moved to the Seattle area so I had no idea where to go. A coworker recommended Renew and I could not be more pleased! The ladies at the front desk (Laura, Lidiya and Sharonda) always have a great big smile and make you feel so welcomed! They even ask how your pain is and how therapy is going, which may not seem like a big deal, but it feels great when people show genuine concern. They also made insurance and booking appointments quick and easy and were always able to work around my schedule, even when I needed to move an appointment. Matthew, PT who worked with me, actually listened to the pain I described and targeted certain muscle groups in my HIP that were causing pain throughout my back. No chiropractor or doctor I saw ever thought of that.. After just 3 sessions I felt the pain go down drastically! Without his expertise I might not have recovered so quickly and completely after my ankle fracture. He gave me the confidence to keep pushing my ankle to the next level. I was highly recommended by my primary care doctor for some neck pain. Called and made appointment, gave all my insurance information; was told I was all set and I'd hear from them soon about copays. That was Friday afternoon, called me Monday to say they had my insurance information wrong, could I give it again. Didn't get back to them until Tuesday because I was at work, was told I would hear back from them about copays. My appointment was Wednesday and I still hadn't heard by noon and called. Was told information that seemed totally off base so I cancelled the appointment. I have decent insurance and we met the deductible awhile back and I was being told I'd have a big copay and had to meet a deductible; that's what she was told by insurance company. I called them myself and I have a co-insurance that wouldn't be to high. I called back to this office, made another appointment, gave my insurance information AGAIN and was told I'd hear back by Friday. It's Monday and zero word. I can't deal with that, if the office staff can't get it together, that means in a few months I'm going to get some big ass bill and have to fight them over it. I wanted to go, heard good things about there treatment, but this is ridiculous. read more

I called to book an appointment with Erik per a recommendation from another provider, and assumed I was scheduled to see him. When I arrived, I was surprised to learn I was scheduled to be seen by another professional. Although I was satisfied with the care I received (not blown away, satisfied), my low rating is mostly related to the facilities and quality of the support staff. The facilities didn't strike me as super clean (stains on carpet, peeling tape, etc.) and the front desk was of questionable competence. I just got a bill more than 3 months after receiving services. I now go to a place in West Seattle which is much nicer and has a top notch front desk staff. My billing now is super efficient (my Insurance company was billed today for services performed yesterday!). Again, review is mostly based on facilities and support staff. read more

This past winter I hurt my back on a ride at Disneyland. I was referred to physical therapy and after some investigation, decided to go with Renew Physical Therapy. I saw Erik Norwood for treatment. This was my first time to sustain a serious injury, and my first time in physical therapy of any kind. When I entered therapy, the pain in my lower back was so bad that I was limited in walking, lifting, any physical activity and even limited in how I could interact with my small children. The first thing Erik did was diagnose my problem and I was reassured to at least have a place to start. The staff at Renew are all friendly, helpful and kind. The chronic pain I was in left me feeling that I would not ever be feeling well again and as I expressed this, Erik said it would likely be 8 weeks in treatment. In the 7th week I had a trip planned with my daughter, so he laid out a course of treatment and I followed it diligently. A few days prior to the 7th week, I began to feel the pain lifted. Today I am at the end of my therapy and beginning the strengthening and maintenance phase. I am very grateful for the knowledge and expertise Erik brought to this situation. I realize that not all practitioners are created equal and I feel fortunate to have walked into Renew Physical Therapy when I did. read more

Last fall I developed sciatica on my right side, out of the blue. I initially covered the pain up by taking ibuprofen. The pain gradually moved from my buttock, all the way down to my ankle. The pain was EXCRUCIATING! It hurt to walk, sit on the toilet, brush my teeth, do dishes, put shoes on, walk DOWN stairs, drive... The sciatica eventually triggered arthritis in my lower back and hips. The ibuprofen was no longer working. I was getting depressed because I was very active prior to this, working out at least 4 times a week. At 45 years old, I could barely walk or stand up straight, let alone work out. I finally went to see my doctor, and asked for a referral to start physical therapy. Renew PT had recently opened up in their new location in Hilman City, which happened to be closer to my house. Because of my work schedule, I had 2 different PTs, Megan and Matt. These two are phenomenal and have totally different styles. Megan is more hands on doing deep tissue massage with stretching, while Matt had me doing crazy stretches and basically taught me how to properly walk again. He taught me the proper techniques to work on my balance again too. Both Megan and Matt gave me stretches and exercises to do until my next appointments. Matt also suggested that I buy a lumbar pillow, which I still use in my car and at work when I need to. By the end of 2017, my sciatica was gone and has not returned! I honestly thought I was going to have to get back surgery. Megan assured me that she could fix me after our first appointment, as long as I did the stretches and exercises that she and Matt assigned to me. I honestly didn't believe her, because I was in SO MUCH pain. Well, she was right! Renew Physical Therapy makes you feel very comfortable and at ease from the moment you walk in the door. The facility is very clean, and has parking in the back. Having parking is VERY important when the mere act of walking causes intense, severe pain in your body. I've been working predominately with Eric for almost 3 months due to sustained back and neck problems. He's attentive and goal oriented. During this time I've gone from fairly substantial pain and limited range of motion, to much less frequent, and greatly reduced pain. He's helped me with home exercises, as well as educating me about posture and body mechanics, and how to use my body most effectively to prevent relapses. My wife and I are both treated at Renew for car accident injuries. We are both experiencing relief from painful neck, back, and hip problems as a result of our treatments. Erik set me up with a plan that gradually introduced things for me to do on my own to help with my problems. He was willing to explain the physiology behind the treatments when I asked. He also came up with some new and creative techniques to work on injured areas. My wife sees both Erik and Karen. She speaks highly about both of them. I will say that physical therapy is not an instant cure. I still have pain and sometimes after treatment I would feel worse for a few days. However, I have improved greatly and they are focused on helping you make progress. As Erik said on the first day- if things aren't improving we need to change the plan. Massage therapy and some other pain related services are also available through their office, which is convenient and good to know that the folks working with you are confident in each other and will talk to each other about your treatment.
