We booked a couple weeks in advance and ended up going on Sunday, rather than Saturday, like we wanted. Oddly enough, they're closed on Saturday. We arrived early for our appointments and were quickly greeted, given forms and asked to use slippers. Within a few minutes, I was taken in for my massage and my friend to her facial. The rooms are lovely, and the spa itself is quite small. Fully functional and they're making great use of the space, but definitely small. My massage was awesome... deep tissue, which is my preference! She worked some magic indeed! When doing more than one treatment, you change into a robe. They have a lidded basket for your belongings and it's taken to your next room with you. I relaxed in one of the pedicure chairs drinking cucumber water while I waited for my facial. Rooms were changed out quickly and the aesthetician took me into her room. She did a great job, however was a little heavy handed a couple times and really spoke too quickly in the beginning, coming across as extremely rushed. As a medical aesthetician myself, it seemed a bit odd, since it didn't come across as calming, which is generally a goal. I kept my credentials to myself, because I personally like to see how services are provided and preformed when they don't know. When all was said and done, I was quite relaxed and we were both very happy with the experience overall. So much more than the local spa we went to last year... to the point that my friend didn't even remember where we went. I guess you know it's less than mediocre when you've blocked it from your memory. As I sat in the entry putting on my shoes, we wondered what they do with the slippers, hoping they're not put on the rack for someone else to wear... moments later a gal comes out with antibacterial wipes, wipes them clean and puts them away. Nice to know! We both agreed, we will definitely be back!

She is an incredibly talented massage therapist and just a great human to have the pleasure of getting to know. From intake to throughout her massage sessions she is constantly seeking her client's feedback and finding ways to improve the experience. I've received a lot of massages over the years, and I've never had such a relaxing experience and felt so in tune and grounded with a person. My schedule is fairly demanding and Caryl is also willing to work with me fairly short notice to get me in. For those interested, she is also a certified medical massage practitioner and is constantly looking to improve her professional knowledge. A true five star experience and I look forward to my next appointment! Thanks Caryl and the Alaska Massage Company!

This hands down was the best massage I have ever received!…read more Tammy and Travis are truly a pair that vibe well with each other (stay with me here). For me it's important to have a feel of cohesiveness, trust, & comfort; especially when dealing with the vulnerability that you have to kind of surrender during a massage. My husband and I had a couples massage that was purchased off of Groupon. He was paired with Tammy and I Travis. Travis hit areas that I had no clue I had pain in. You can tell he really listens to your body's reactions in response to his manipulations. He worked a lot with pressure point release while still maintaining a fluidity of movement. Whereas me being a (what my husband and family calls me) modern day hippie my husband he is NOT he likes to forget the science and "hoopla" behind it and just wants a sound relaxing, put to sleep massage. That was expectation was not only hit but surpassed by Tammy's gentle touch. When talking with them you can tell they both have a genuine respect of the body. They both understand the "how" along with "what" it needs to heal. But wait it gets better! On top of that they understand the financial strain that massages can carry so they like to throw in little perks here and there to help "build up" your massage. I'm just saying. I love supporting small businesses and even more I love supporting a business that truly cares about their customers!

I'm not someone who typically writes negative reviews -- I usually only leave positive ones -- but…read moreI feel this needs to be shared so others don't go through the same experience. I first contacted Affordable Massage Therapy (Tammy) on December 11 and over the next several weeks had multiple appointments scheduled, confirmed, and then canceled by her. Appointments were changed, rescheduled, or canceled at short notice due to scheduling mistakes, family emergencies, and illness. At one point, she stated she deletes all text messages, which made it difficult to keep any continuity in scheduling. In total, my appointment was canceled three separate times by the provider, including once just hours before a scheduled session. During this process, her rates also increased significantly compared to when I originally booked. After the last cancellation, I looked more closely at her reviews and noticed a consistent pattern in the one-star google reviews describing the same issues -- frequent cancellations and lack of reliability. While she does have positive reviews, it seems those experiences depend heavily on actually being able to keep an appointment. If reliability and respect for your time are important to you, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. For what it's worth, when my appointment was canceled yet again, I was able to book last-minute with Chris at Root Massage, who provided the best massage I've had in Anchorage. The difference in professionalism and consistency was night and day.

I would give a less than 1 if I could. I called Tammy and…read morethen she texted me she could fit me in next day. First said 2:40p, we started to set up the time. Then turns out she meant 1:40p. I couldn't do 1:40p so she suggests 4:15pm. I agree, she sends all the details. I showed up 10 minutes early as requested and go in. There is a lady who runs the massage space but no Tammy. She says Tammy just went in with a customer, during my scheduled time. I texted Tammy to ask what's up. She doesn't even apologize at first, just says "I meant 5:45p". I sent her screenshots of the messages she sent me and ask if she will give me a discount since I had to drive over and potentially have to come back later. She doesnt offer one and then just says she is booked up. I have no idea of her massage quality but I can tell you to expect your appointment to move multiple times and for Tammy not to really care. Also I just want to say that I am experiencing pretty extensive pain. And mistakes happen. But If you work in an industry that provides relief to people, it might be worth it to invest in some scheduling tools because you will have clients continuing to live in pain when you can't live up to your business responsibilities. All in all -10 stars, do not visit.
