I'm not someone who typically writes negative reviews -- I usually only leave positive ones -- but I feel this needs to be shared so others don't go through the same experience. I first contacted Affordable Massage Therapy (Tammy) on December 11 and over the next several weeks had multiple appointments scheduled, confirmed, and then canceled by her. Appointments were changed, rescheduled, or canceled at short notice due to scheduling mistakes, family emergencies, and illness. At one point, she stated she deletes all text messages, which made it difficult to keep any continuity in scheduling. In total, my appointment was canceled three separate times by the provider, including once just hours before a scheduled session. During this process, her rates also increased significantly compared to when I originally booked. After the last cancellation, I looked more closely at her reviews and noticed a consistent pattern in the one-star google reviews describing the same issues -- frequent cancellations and lack of reliability. While she does have positive reviews, it seems those experiences depend heavily on actually being able to keep an appointment. If reliability and respect for your time are important to you, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. For what it's worth, when my appointment was canceled yet again, I was able to book last-minute with Chris at Root Massage, who provided the best massage I've had in Anchorage. I would give a less than 1 if I could. I called Tammy and then she texted me she could fit me in next day. First said 2:40p, we started to set up the time. Then turns out she meant 1:40p. I couldn't do 1:40p so she suggests 4:15pm. I agree, she sends all the details. I showed up 10 minutes early as requested and go in. There is a lady who runs the massage space but no Tammy. She says Tammy just went in with a customer, during my scheduled time. I texted Tammy to ask what's up. She doesn't even apologize at first, just says "I meant 5:45p". I sent her screenshots of the messages she sent me and ask if she will give me a discount since I had to drive over and potentially have to come back later. She doesnt offer one and then just says she is booked up. I have no idea of her massage quality but I can tell you to expect your appointment to move multiple times and for Tammy not to really care. Also I just want to say that I am experiencing pretty extensive pain. And mistakes happen. But If you work in an industry that provides relief to people, it might be worth it to invest in some scheduling tools because you will have clients continuing to live in pain when you can't live up to your business responsibilities. Tammy is an excellent massage therapist, and true to the business name, she is by far the most affordable good massage in town. The atmosphere is relaxing, with a comfortable table and appropriate music. The location of the business is pretty central and easy to access. As far as the massage goes, Tammy's technique is wonderful. I haven't had one of her more relaxing massages, but her trigger point/deep tissue work is spot on. She worked out some adhesions that I've had for a long time, due to a chronic leg problem. I have been seeing her on a fairly regular basis for several months and will continue to do so. read more

I was very excited to get a massage after reading Tammy Jo's reviews. I called and made an appointment with her for the next afternoon. 55 minutes prior to my appointment, she texted me saying she forgot that she had to go to her step-daughters graduation, and couldn't do it that day. Things come up, I understand. (Though it does seem like an event that you probably wouldn't forget about, especially the day before hand). So we rescheduled for the following day. The next day, I get a text 20 mins prior to my appointment saying she didn't want to do it today because she felt sick and was coughing. Again, I get that things happen. So 2 days in a row I am cancelled on with short notice. Not once did she say "I'm sorry" or even offer a discount for the inconveniences. I sent a very polite message stated that I did not want to wait until the next week, and that I would look for another therapist, and wished her luck with her business. I'm pretty picky about my massages as I've had chronic neck and back pain for years but Tammie did a fantastic job. She did a medical massage where she really tried to release the muscles around the knot and with my chronic headaches, it really worked! She tells you what she's doing and always checks in re the pressure and the pain. I don't need the fancy spa type massages, I would way prefer this. And $90 for 90 minutes is quite the deal! She was very accommodating with my time schedule. Location: In the small building called "The salon" with parking outside. Price: $60 for 60 min, $90 for 90 minutes. Wow, my mind is blown. I received an amazing medical/chiropractic massage. Tammy was able to fix chronic issues that have plagued me for years. Tammy is a very skilled therapist with knowledge of multiple techniques. The location and atmosphere could be improved, but the quality massage you receive makes that easy to ignore. If you are looking for a posh spa environment, with a light touch/petting massage: this is NOT the place for you. Tammy provides an excellent therapeutic massage that will actually improve your body. This review is solely based on poor customer service. Tammy Joe scheduled me for a 90 minute massage via text for the upcoming Saturday. I arrived for my massage at the scheduled time & she had another client booked at the same time. She apologized, asked if I could come back at a later time & told me she would discount the massage. About 5 minutes after leaving, she calls me to tell me she just read our text conversation, can't see me for a 90 minute but can do an hour & any discount I would have received for the double booking was no longer available. I agreed because I really was looking forward to a massage & my body hurt. About an hour later I received a text again apologizing that she could not see me that night because the store was closing early. She acknowledged that I might be "pretty unsatisfied" & understood if I didn't want to book again but that if I did she would make sure & schedule me correctly. Truly, I was not pleased & took 2 days to decide to text her back asking to schedule. I received no response. That was a week ago. And so I felt it necessary to write this review. I worked in customer service & in this line of work for 15+ combined years. If I had mis-scheduled someone so many times as she had, I would have probably offered a free massage. I'm not saying that's what she had to do, but to ignore my text is pretty awful customer service. read more
