We had a wonderful diner here during our "Covid getaway" from Toronto. I had the lobster Mac and cheese and my wife had the grilled salmon on polenta. Both were delicious. Super friendly and attentive service. If I lived in Stratford we would certainly be regulars. Please support local during the pandemic.

We came to Rene's on a Friday night 645, and the hostess was happy to suggest items to make sure we made our 8pm show on time. The ambience was comfortable and upscale - the other diners were a mix of pre-theater and locals from what we could gather. The special cream of cauliflower soup with a pesto garnish was good. There was no side of bread, which I found unusual. The entree special maple glazed salmon on a cedar plank was excellent - see picture. My husband's fettuccine with mushrooms was very good as well. The service was excellent. The hostess and server were polite, helpful and quick. Would go again and recommend in a heartbeat. We'd cancelled our Sophisto reservations because we were running late, and we're glad we did!

This was a fantastic meal in a lovely setting. It's on the high end price-wise but totally worth it for a night out! For apps I had a nice roasted beet salad, my husband had the petatou de chèvre (a delicious potato salad in a mold with a layer of chèvre and tapenade on top - absolutely delicious!) and my son had the very tasty bruschetta that could easily have been shared. For mains the guys had lamb shank on crazy-delicious roasted garlic bread pudding with roasted veggies on the side and my daughter and I shared a wonderful mushroom and Brie Wellington. The kitchen was kind enough to split our meal with no extra plate charge. For dessert we all shared the mango sorbet and the maple bread pudding both of which were delicious and large enough to share. A special shout out to our waiter Barrett who was charming and attentive.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but got a nice tour of it and liked how many nooks there are to read or play games in, how different rooms/floors are Shakespeare-themed, etc. It seemed very well thought out - not just another basic hotel chain. Steel Cut Porridge: If you love dessert for breakfast, this is excellent. The banana is caramelized (flambeed?) and the oats are perfectly cooked and sweetened with the birch syrup. I got this twice and it's just the right amount. Avocado Parfait: This was weird, but edible and very filling. I wouldn't get it again - the avocado was a weird choice. Like a sweet guacamole? Pain au Chocolat: Fresh and warm, a little soft (I like them a little more crispy on the outside and soft inside). Decent amount of quality chocolate inside. Crispy Smoked Bacon: Okay this one was maybe not as well priced as you only get three pieces of bacon, but it was tasty and I didn't have any regrets. Thin cut, wide, fatty slices. Maple Breakfast Sausage: No complaints, nothing too special, so it was a little pricey at three sausages. Better of course dipped in maple syrup! Bruce Blend Tea: This was quality black tea, but also just okay for me personally. I appreciate that they tell you how long the tea should be steeped and give you a timer for it. Apricot Tea: I liked this a lot on its own, but I liked it even more with some maple syrup, which made it taste like peach rings. Lychee Tea: This was nice and also I liked it better with a little maple syrup. Fabulous service. On weekends you get hot towels, which I thought was kind of funny. There is a path just outside that leads to the Stratford Festival Theatre, which is nice. I don't know that I could afford to stay at the hotel, but I would definitely come back to the restaurant.

Having spent a weekend earlier in the year in Stratford neither was I keen about some of the prices that the downtown restaurants like to charge. Pazzo Taverna and Pizzeria seemed to be the answer. At 6PM we actually were able to book a 7:30 table. The room was still busy when we arrived and there was a small crowd waiting but we were seated quickly with menus. The bill of fare is pretty much limited to salads, a couple of appetizer choices, a variety of pizzas, and a handful of pasta dishes. Still, a Marco Polo pizza (roast chicken, sun dried tomatoes, feta, & basil) for me and Spaghetti & Meatballs for my spouse suited our dining preferences. My spouse had a glass of a Spanish Red with her meal, I was satisfied with just water. We were impressed that everything on their wine list was available by the glass as well as by the bottle. Also, we got some satisfaction to see Canadian, Italian, and other countries' wines with one particular exception. (As for that, take your annexation threats and stuff it where you're storing all the Bourbon that isn't crossing the border either.) For my wife's spaghetti, the pasta was fresh and the meatballs plentiful. As for my pizza, I found it flavourful with fresh Basil and the crust was thin and crisp. Portion sizes were more and sufficient as we both had something to take away. Service was quick and cheerful. The room cleared out quickly as we expect a lot of tables were headed for an evening curtain. Still, there seem to be a lot of hard surfaces and it can get a bit loud, it did get a lot better once more tables departed. While not cheap we felt we received value for money, especially compared to some of the other nearby establishments. We'll still go there but from time to time it's nice not to have to fork over 3-digits on a dinner for two.

Service: 4 Food: 3 We ordered the burrata which was pretty good though it was more gritty that smooth inside like the ones I've had at some other places. We had two pizzas and their toppings were great, but I prefer a more light/airy crust. This one was quite hard and on the chewy side. The kale salad was delicious and the best out of the 3 .

The French onion soup was really thick with cheese at the top, perhaps a bit too much so. The carrot salad was really pleasant to eat and felt healthy. The burger had a nice flavor and texture to it; the bun was a bit sweet, and the fries were tasty, but not super crisp though crisp enough, and a bit salty. The leek tartine was a bit monolithic, the leek being too oily and the bread a bit flat. It was overpriced by about $6 or $7 in my opinion. Wish there was as little more going for it. The crepes were decent; the nutella crepe was particularly sweet. For dessert, the roulé au chocolat was top notch, with a freshly whipped cream accompanying a sturdy and flavorful chocolate roll cake. Music was good too! All in all a good way to spend time eating and having a bite with friends and family prior to a show.

Our guy was on top of things, good descriptions and always there when we needed him. The food was yummy but not mind blowing. I loved that you could do half fries and half salad. The frite were soooo goooood and the garlic aioli was delightful. The rest was just good. I didn't think the "crispy" added a lot to the eggs benny but it was interesting to try. Nice place if you want to have a fancy little brunch before a play
