My contractors name was Steve Noel and he did an amazing job addressing all of my concerns and coordinating my messy project. Renovating your house is not easy and I have had the worst luck with contractors just dumping the job and leaving half way through after I have paid them and I did not have that fear working with Trademark Flooring. We did have some miscommunications and a few mistakes were made but after talking to Steve and clearing things up everything was fixed right away. I did a master bathroom flooring/wall and a living room/kitchen/dining/guest bathroom flooring project with Trademark Flooring. Living room/kitchen/dining/guest bathroom work: I had red oak 2.5 inch hardwood floors in the kitchen and dining room area and carpet in the living room section. Trademark Flooring first came in and removed everything. I have no basement and a concrete slab so they worked for about three days removing the glued down hardwoods and sanding and scraping everything down. I chose a large 48 by 48 porcelain tile for the living/kitchen/dining/guest bathroom floors and the entire floor was to be heated. Trademark Flooring was the only place that confidently took on the 48 by 48 inch tile and was fully prepared with their own electrician to hookup the thermostats after the installers ran all of the wire underneath before tiling. Master bathroom work: My master bathroom was all done with marble and heated flooring. I wanted a lot of niches and they were able to make the curved arch niches l wanted leaving the wires from the inside for my other contractor to come in and install lighting after the tiling was done. I used 48 by 24 marble tiles on the floors and walls and smaller marble tiles for the niches. They did a beautiful job with the tile around the deck of my drop in bathtub. They can basically do anything you ask for and I wanted to be a little creative with my design and they excelled in meeting my expectations. They even gave me great ideas when something I wanted was not going to be able to be done because of the existing layout of house. For example: An idea from Steve came up with the brilliant idea of furring the wall out to make one of the niches I wanted because breaking the wall and moving the pipe for the toilet was not an option as there was no room for the pipe to go back further. (Saved me money too to do it this way). I have posted the before and after pictures of my bathroom and living room floors. My house is not done yet so do not mind the unfinished surroundings. History of my project before Trademark Flooring: I am renovating my entire house and had a previous contractor come in that took a large deposit as 50% of each project I was starting ($42,000) and he started demolishing everything in the house first and then said he ordered all of the materials (tiles, speakers, bathtubs, windows, cabinets etc...) and basically kept asking for more money and after I told him to finish the projects I already paid for, he left the job and my house in a state as if a nuclear bomb hit it. So here I was with no bathroom, kitchen, and holes in the wall everywhere, plus things that he did wrong while trying to pretend like he was working. I tried to save a buck by going with a cheap contractor and I learned the hard way that sometimes going through companies is cheaper in the long run and less of a headache. I had to redo my master bathroom three times before I finally had Steve and Trademark Flooring come in and fix it for the last time. Side note: I also felt that the pricing from Trademark Flooring was very reasonable compared to quotes I got from other companies but if you run into any plumbing work and extra electrical work please try to find and use someone that you know. I had an issue with my Kohler tub faucet but because of the sake of time I used a plumber recommended by Steve who did excellent work but was very expensive. I also had to run 240 volt wires for the heated flooring that was broken up into 3 sections (master bathroom (kitchen, living room, guest bathroom on one circuit)(dining room heated flooring on a different circuit)). I got an electrician I knew to do the running of the 240 volt wires as the electrician that Steve recommended who connects the thermostat at the end was a little pricy too.

I was asked to pick out tile, fixtures, and cabinets from a list of vendors. I had initially…read moreselected grey cabinets, but called the vendor back to change my preference to white. I used white cabinet samples to compare to the countertops during selection. The work was done quickly at first. Demo took a couple days with the owner and one worker. When it came time to install the cabinets, they had ordered the grey color cabinets. When I called the vendor to confirm my color choice, she informed me that ARJ had never placed an order with them. The cabinets (and presumably the tile as well) must have been ordered from some alternate vendor. ARJ fought with me to insist that the grey cabinets were fine and looked good. I had to insist that they install the cabinets that I selected. Because the shower pan installation didn't account for the lip of the shower bench, the bench installation was done by cutting a notch out of my doorframe to accommodate. When I insisted this be corrected, the bench was cut down smaller and the notch was filled with silicone caulk (which shrunk upon drying). The mosaic tile used for the shower pan floor and on the walls was uneven and poorly cut and installed. ARJ blamed this on defective tiles from the manufacturer and insisted that this could not be avoided. No spacers were used on the mosaic tile resulting in uneven and jagged lines. Tiles were chipped and cracked during installation. There was a film left from the grout which has stained the tile floors. The wall tile and shower tile are still covered with a film. The light fixtures that were installed were not even centered above the sinks, and when I asked to have this corrected, ARJ suggested just moving the mirror over (even though this would also be off-center with the sink). I asked ARJ for an itemized invoice for the cost of materials numerous times and they never provided one. I was charged over $5,000 for materials (tile, cabinets, and countertops - fixtures were purchased personally). When confronted with the issues, ARJ argued that the work was fine and that the damage to the tiles was hardly noticeable, especially if you stood back from the walls. I insisted on receiving an itemized invoice because I feel certain I was overcharged for the materials (including the tile that was damaged).

However, I'll never get a…read morechance to experience their work because of the way they handled canceling their appointment with me to give an estimate on an entire basement renovation. On Friday at 6:30 PM, I was able to line up an appointment for their estimator to arrive at our home the next day (Saturday) at 4 PM. I rearranged my day on Saturday to make sure I would be there when the estimator arrived. At 3:21, the estimator called my cell phone and left a message. He called again at 3:25. At 3:30, I received a text asking if I was home and then another text that said my appointment was canceled due to no response. During these 10-15 minutes, I was on a treadmill running, so I did not have my phone handy. Honestly, I could have been doing a lot of things and not had my cell phone handy... reading a book, working in the yard, playing games with my kids, etc. If I had been told by ARJ Remodeling that I would receive a phone call or text 30-45 minutes prior to the appointment and that if I did not respond, the appointment would be canceled, I would have made sure I had my cell phone handy. However, I was never told this important fact. So, when I got off the treadmill at 3:35 to make the 5-minute ride home to be home 15-20 minutes before the appointment, I picked up my phone and saw the text that my appointment had been canceled. I texted back expressing my disappointment and received a text that stated: "That's not good you did not answer even text at 3:30." Read that text again... notice it is my fault the appointment had been canceled. I was irritated, so I called and said: "Wow, that's a great way to lose business." I admit this was not the best way to start the conversation. At the same time, the young man who answered the phone immediately put the blame on me (as he did with the text). He explained, in a verbose manner, that it was my fault that I did not answer my phone and that his estimator didn't want to drive 30 minutes to an appointment if I wasn't going to be there. I mentioned we had just made the appointment a day earlier, that I keep my appointments, that I was never told I needed to answer a phone call before the appointment to confirm I was there, and that if I had been told this fact that I would have made sure I had my phone handy. The young man barely took a breath before he started explaining again that the problem was that I didn't answer my phone. This is when I decided to hang up. Never once did the person answering the phone say, "We are sorry we canceled your appointment" and there was no apology for any misunderstanding, even though I stated that I had rearranged my entire day to be available for this appointment. Here's the kicker... I'm getting 2-3 estimates, which is what most people likely do for a big project like this one, and ARJ was the company I was leaning towards hiring because their online reviews are strong. Obviously, after the way I was treated as a potential customer, I won't be doing business with them. With that said, my disappointment is not just with the way I was treated as a potential customer. I'm also disappointed that ARJ is out of the running for this project because, as stated in my first paragraph, it sounds like they do good work. One final word. I was in the process of selling my home when I unexpectedly ended up with three huge holes cut into my basement ceiling (due to some last minute plumbing work requested by the Buyers). On a Friday, with the closing scheduled for Monday morning, Michael and his guys patched the holes and painted them with leftover paint I had. Unfortunately, the paint I gave them was not a good match at all. In addition, the upstairs AC quit working at the same time and it was hot as Hades up there! Although Michael doesn't generally work on weekends, he came out the next day, on a Saturday, and he brought along his HVAC man. The two of them got everything fixed. The ceiling looked like new and the AC was working great by the time the two of them left. I was the last to leave. At the exact moment I was backing down the driveway, the Buyers showed up to do their final walkthrough! (Talk about cutting it close!) Anyway, apparently, they were happy with everything they saw because the closing went off without a hitch the following Monday morning. I plan to use MCO Professionals for future work. He was supposed to have a crew working but it was only him. He would show up at 10:30 or 11:00am and only work until 2:30 or 3:00 and take an hour lunch.
