I brought my wife's 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit in for new brakes and rotors. A few weeks later, my wife noticed the brakes were making a squealing noise during turns so I brought the vehicle back to have it inspected. I was charged $100 just for them to look into the issue. What was most concerning was learning that when the brakes and rotors were replaced a few weeks earlier, the shop chose to install lower-quality aftermarket parts rather than OEM parts. The original components on the vehicle were OEM, but instead of giving us the option to choose, the service advisor of Indian descent told me they used cheaper parts because OEM parts were "too expensive" and would make them less competitive. That decision was made without our knowledge or approval. When it comes to critical safety components like brakes, customers should always be given the option and informed about the quality of parts being installed. Choosing lower-quality parts to save money--without discussing it with the customer--raises serious concerns about quality, safety, and reliability. At the very least, we should have been given the option to replace the parts with OEM components or informed beforehand about what was being installed. Instead of rectifying their original mistake they shifted focus to other parts (pins) that still didn't address the issue at hand. Hence, I would not recommend if you're looking for honesty, quality, safety, and RELIABILITY. read more

Will not be back! New owner is trash! Tried to overcharge for an oil change while you are showing a coupon for $49.99. Oil change always takes a 1.5 hours, if not longer. Why? They never have my filter in stock. I MAKE AN APPT! You know I'm coming, why aren't you ordering ahead of time?? That was when I was DONE! I spoke to Ryan, who made it right by giving me a free oil change. Made the appt, and came in for my oil change. No more Ryan...WOW.....they then tried to charge me for my oil change. "No notes in the system" is what I was told. I walked out. Not paying this place another dime, EVER!! Owner needs to learn about the business be bought. The guy on the phone (had an Indian accent) was incredibly rude and was dodging giving me a quote unless I told him how much other places were quoting me. That's not normal for an auto shop to do.. I told him the exact amount of labor hours needed, the list/codes of the parts required, and he proceeded to tell me they don't accept parts from outside sources.. what did that have to do with anything? I said "that's not what I meant sir, I just have the names of the parts that you guys would need" and he responded "do you want to work with us or go somewhere else". So far they saved me OVER $6200 as well as aggravation. I have a 2015 kia optima with the notorious oil consumption issues they are known for. Kia dealer told me piston rings were bad;upward of $5000 to tear down engine just to confirm. No warranty coverage. Wanted to do some kind of combustion chamber engine cleaning at $1200 but wouldn't guarantee it would solve the issue. (Typical BS you get from dealerships) Took her over to Reliable (Geo was amazing!) After a full day of problem solving they discover my PCV needed replacing!!! Changed out the valve came back for oil level check after 500 miles and voila!!! Oil level is normal. Recap: kia dealership in St Charles Il suggested... Engine combustion chamber cleaning - no guarantee $1200 (NOT) Worn Piston rings diagnosis only!!! - $5000 (umm no thank you) Reliable Auto - replaced PCV valve $287!! Included the time to diagnose, labor to replace the PCV valve and parts -$287.39... umm yes please. My kia is running good and so far oil level is normal and holding ... Thank you reliable auto and thank you Geo for your great attitude and professionalism I'd give 5 stars but I haven't had any other services to compare so today... You get 4 stars. More than three years later, Reliable is still my go to for all repairs and oil changes. I've gotten my injectors cleaned, my transmission fluid flushed, my brakes done, battery replaced, oil changed, tires rotated. Every time they tell me what is needed and let me decide if I want it done. Every time they do a job they tell me exactly what they did and their prices are honest and reasonable. Pete and Paul run a great operation. Didn't know them from Adam the first time I went in (based on online reviews). I have recommended them to countless people and they never disappoint. Don't go there expecting to pay $15 for an oil change or $125 for a complete transmission flush. That is not reality. We live in Phoenix, but were visiting family in St Charles, and the "Check Engine" light came on in our 27 year old motor home. Our nephew recommended we call Pete at Reliable. He got us in the next day and they spent 45 minutes searching for the cause. Because the motor home is so old, it doesn't have the diagnostic capabilities of a more modern vehicle and they were unable to pinpoint the issue. The new piece I broke was going to be time consuming, and the part itself was expensive, so I was in no mood to mess around trying to DIY the reapair. I took the car here, based on the previoius reviewes. They called me the same day and told me what was wrong, and what was needed to fix it. They told me exactly what I knew already, and didn't try to add anything extra. Very honost mechanic, he even went on to other things to check for repair, and did not recommend getting it done now, until I had a chance to think about it, and make sure it was needed. This is the second time I've used Reliable Auto Repair. I came in to drop off my car for service. The owner Paul asked me if I needed a loaner and I declined, as I had my wife outside waiting for me in her car. As we pulled away, her car started having problems, so we immediately turned around. I explained the situation to Paul and he was able to take my wife's car and give me a loaner for the day AT NO EXTRA CHARGE! When he called later that morning to give me my options, he recommended the lesser of the 2 costs and had it repaired later that day. We found Reliable Auto on YELP a few years ago and have been taking our vehicles there ever since. It's hard to find repair shops you can trust but Reliable Auto is very honest and the customer service is incredible. My initial visit to Reliable was to get an oil change and while I was sitting there waiting I overheard Paul, the owner, talking to another customer, a young man, probably about 17 years old. The young man didn't know he was supposed to get his oil changed and his engine had seized. I don't know anything about cars either but I know enough that I know you need to get your oil changed regularly. I was impressed with how Paul talked to the young man and did so respectfully without making him feel like an idiot. These guys are awesome. I came to this location for two main reasons: 1) they are right down the street from work and 2) my boyfriend had work done on his car at this location and raved about his experience. These guys know what they are doing and know how to take care of customers - super friendly and great attention to details. They fixed my car next day at a very good price and I will definitely come back! The only reason it couldn't be fixed immediately was due to a part that needed to be ordered. The part arrived that same afternoon and by 10:00am the next day I got a call that my vehicle was all fixed up. As an added bonus, I found a bunch of mints waiting for me in my cup holder when I came back to pick up my car. I work right down the street and hands down I will recommend this place to all of my friends in the area. Sidenote: As a young female, I'm pretty used to auto repair shops trying to trick me into paying for services that I don't need to have done on my vehicle. It sucks and it's so frustrating to see places taking advantage of young women, assuming they are too stupid to know anything about their car. I have literally watched mechanics take old damaged parts from "my car" and bring them over to show me how damaged it is when I know for a fact that my car's parts look nothing like their fake ones or that the part they are showing me has nothing to do with the problem I am having. It's that bad. Don't believe me? Ask any female under the age of 30 and I guarantee they have at least one story to tell you about a similar experience. While I am not super savvy with car repair, I know enough basic knowledge that I can tell when someone is feeding me total BS. I also do a ton of research and ask my trusted friends about the car issue I am having before I bring my vehicle anywhere to make sure that I have some possible causes in mind. Thankfully, Reliable Auto passed my test with flying colors. I spoke to two different gentlemen at the front desk who were both very knowledgeable and explained their diagnosis in detail with me, so I knew exactly what kind of work I was paying for and their solution was legitimate. I had a very interesting situation in which I had my 97 Ford Mustang blow it's upper radiator hose (probably due to a thermostat locking shut) on my way back from Naperville buying our NEW car...bad luck. Luckily for us, a young man associated with Reliable came to our rescue, fixed our car on his day off (let us keep our car in his driveway), then took it to the shop to ensure everything else was in working order. I do not recommend bringing your car to Reliable Auto Repair. I've brought my car in twice now for repairs. I had a poor experience the first time but gave them the benefit of the doubt since they owned up to their mistake. However, this second time has shown they are only interested in knocking down check-engine error codes without looking more in depth and giving you the whole picture. My first trip to Reliable, I needed my battery replaced; pretty straight forward. They replaced it and the very next day I went over a small bump, literally just the short curb between the street and a driveway, and my entire car shutdown. I managed to jiggle the battery enough to reconnect and drive back to RAR. They owned up to their mistake, that they had not securely connected the new battery, and fixed it with their apologies. I thought this was a good sign I was bringing my car to an honest company. This second trip, my checking engine light came on and my car was exhibiting issues with acceleration, revving high or nearly stalling. I brought it back to RAR and was told 3 things need to be repaired; two that were not directly related but needed to be done, and the third would solve the acceleration problem. Again, less than a week later, my check engine light came back on and the same acceleration issues returned. I honestly assumed they had messed up again and would fix their mistake; which would be bad enough. Instead I was told there was a brand new error code unrelated to the one they fixed a week ago. It seems unlikely another (very expensive) repair with the exact same symptoms cropped up in a week without having been noticeable to an expert's eye the first time I brought it in. My car is older and it would have been useful to have a complete picture of the state of things before dropping over a grand just to have the same problem and be told another major repair is necessary a week later. Moreover, a second opinion suggested simple fuel-line cleaner and no repair at all. It's clear Reliable Auto Repair is only interested in reading the error code, immediately recommending expensive replacement, without looking at the car as a whole. Specialized knowledge like mechanics have, I relied on them to give me a complete look at the state of my car and a sound recommendation. I was not able to make an informed decision on spending money with Reliable Auto Repair versus putting that money towards a new car based on the service and information Reliable provided. $950 for a water pump that costs $75. They said the changed my oil and checked breaks too, but 2 days later I had to take drivers front wheel off to notice only one bolt holding the caliper on the break. They either never checked them or didn't put the back together correctly. Really mad I put my family in a car in that condition. Not to mention I found one of their wrenches stuck under the hood by the windshield wipes obviously just where they forgot it. I'm new to Batavia and looked for a trustworthy repair shop. I had a rear wiper on my Buick SUV that needed replacement but couldn't remove the old wiper, even with a pulling tool. I took it to Reliable Auto Repair late this afternoon, and Pete (who couldn't be friendlier) had the car pulled in immediately. After 10 minutes the repair was done--they had to use heat to get it off. The I asked the cost, and he said "No Charge." Who does that?? Great service...very communicative...trustworthy...good price...on time..everything as promised. I really could go on and on to the point of becoming annoying. A quick example... Whenever power is removed the radio and navigation systems are locked when power is reapplied. After replacing the alternator and battery they even re-entered the codes to the radio and navigation system. I've always had to re-enter those myself after getting home. The Reliable Auto guys took the extra effort to dig into the glove box, get the codes from the sticker in the manual, and enter them to make sure EVERYTHING was just like it was when I dropped it off. No other auto service, dealer or otherwise, has ever paid such attention to detail before. Keep up the good work!! read more

Paul is one of the first auto guys I've met who takes the time to make sure you learn something about auto maintenance. As a teacher, I appreciate that he does not keep his expertise to himself. He is open about his own maintenance habits, given his 20 years of experience in the industry, and also when certain types of maintenance are necessary and when they aren't. It is rare to walk into a place and you can talk yourself out of (dealer or other mechanic "recommended") maintenance in front of the guy behind the desk. That is exactly what happened today.
