It's no more than a mile from the 4th largest lake in Wisconsin, castle rock lake, and they have a nice bait shop that's open 7 days a week from 7a-7p. There are a few golf courses near by, snowmobile/ATV trails right across the street and even airsoft/paintballing 1/2 mile away! There are a lot of activities around the site as well volleyball, playset, horseshoes, custom made basketball hot shot and our favorite, sitting around a nice bonfire and seeing all the stars. This place is stunning!! A perfect home away from home…read more We are a group of travellers, most of whom are government contractors at Fort McCoy, and are living here for an entire month. We were so pleased that this worked out, as Tomah does not exactly have a wide variety of corporate housing or even any nice hotels! It appears to me that there are 4 houses, all located around Birch Lake. The compound is extremely private, and each house has it's own secluded area, driveway and boat dock. The lake has 3 small beaches, and I believe that there is an inflatable "splash island" and trampoline in the summer.... and there is no one else around! The town of Tomah is only a 10 minute drive away, and fort McCoy is about 20. I would recommend this for anyone working on base, and also to vacationers who want a peaceful and relaxing stay on a lake. We are in the largest of the houses, and I have only seen one of the other ones. Both of these houses have hot tubs, boats, fully equipped kitchens, and large Tvs, and I am sure the other do, too. We have 6 fully furnished bedrooms, and also a ping pong table! They all have outdoor BBQs and fire pits, and stunning views of the lake. The Landlord is super friendly, and handles everything very professionally.

The Paradise home has the best view of the lake from the 6person hot tub in the sun room! The home also has a great fireplace, living area, and extremely well stocked kitchen with all appliances. Direct TV as well! There are beaches on the lake and each house has a paddle boat and a row boat. There are also fire pits and firewood is available at the house for $4 a bundle. There is a small walking/hiking trail around the lake and the property is surrounded by quiet and beautiful farmland.

Ultimately after wasted time back and forth they gave our friends a refund but nothing for us. They claimed we were part of a group that still went. We did not go with this group and we have never even met the people they are talking about. We knew of a person who was going with their friends but was never people we knew. I highly encourage going to Point Bluff for tubing. Went their twice this year and had a great…read moretime. They have plenty of tubes, so many people can go at a time. After you purchase your tubes, you are driven in a bus to the starting point where you pick them up and get started. The tubes of everyone in your group are connected, so you stay together. Rent a couple of the cooler tubes, and you can bring beverages and snacks along. We also brought a Bluetooth speaker for music. If the water is too low in some spots and you may need to walk the tubes a little way, that can't be helped. If your tubes are drifting off course, they have people on jet skies that will come and nudge the group to where they need to go. It is a nice relaxing way to spend the day near the Dells.

The seasonal sites and campers are neat and well maintained. We had two sites: one camper and one tent. The sites were very roomy with fire pits and picnic tables and a good combination of sun and shade. We had a nice view of the small pond and used the campground's kayaks for a quick paddle. We enjoyed activities out and about during the days and relaxing, quiet mornings and evenings at the campground. The bathrooms were really clean. It seemed like the women's bathroom had just been cleaned every time I went in there. And such darling pictures on the walls! Area Activities: - Pickleball at Lions Park in Mauston - hauled our bikes to Hustler and biked to the tunnel - very cool! - geocaching all around including right at the campground entrance - Buckhorn State Park: hiked, picnic, beach and biked. Google showed bike trails in Buckhorn SP but the paths are very sandy, so we don't recommend biking in this state park!

We based ourselves out of Amil's for two nights, and we were on our bikes only! The only down side of this lodging choice was the 2.5 mile ride to Amil's from the trail, but Hwy 131 was not super busy and felt completely safe to ride on. I'm not a regular B&B person at all, they are usually not my first choice in lodging. But this trip proved a B&B, AMil's in particular, was the best choice. Anita is the owner and proprietor of Amil's and she certainly knows what she's doing! The accommodations were super comfortable and the house, the rooms, the bathrooms and everything were off the charts clean. Breakfasts were also off the charts tasty and filling -- my only complaint is I could barely clean my plate there was so much to eat, and I didn't want to be rude by leaving anything to go to waste. Turns out the fuel was needed for the rides anyway, but....Yes, fresh wonderful breakfasts with ingredients from Anita's gardens, couldn't be beat. And endless coffee. We also enjoyed a morning stroll around the gardens and an evening sitting on the front porch watching the sunset. (The Cenex in town has a good beer and snacks selection and we enjoyed a dinner at the Hitching Post Bar in town one night). We didn't partake in sitting out back at the fire pit, but noticed the basket of s'mores supplies available for guests. Anita is delightful, and every detail was taken care of. Bottom line is Amil's was a lovely experience and I highly recommend staying here!

We arrived with empty cantankerous stomachs as the sun set, looking to grill up peppers, beans, kielbasa & kraut over the communal fire pit. However, the historically intense heat has left Wisconsin's forests dangerously combustible - so no fire for us. We thought we'd lost hope. Suddenly, a sweetheart polish mother of another brother came to the rescue, offering to cook our bounty - "I go inside, 10 minutes, no problem". Incredible. Dziękuję!! - (jen-key / Thanks). We hung out in the woods eating Kielbasa with Polish walleye fishermen as the stars and planets shined above. This is sacred land out here for sure, and the folks here help keep it amazing, accessible, and homie. Necedah Motel is everything and knows all. We'll be back. Much love!!

It would be nice if the store was open a little later for ice and such but not that big a deal really. Firewood was available about 1/2 mile down the road. Our granddaughters are having a nice time and have met new friends. This is good family camping. No frills, but fun and safe. Close to the Dells but not too close. We will definitely make the longer drive to come back here over closer places nearer our home. I booked because of the price, the pool, and the fair cancellation policy. I am so glad we came!

It is under new ownership, since 2014 and the new owners are remodeling and revamping the place.Some of the staff is new to camping but they are people people, so it all works out in the end. It has some of the lowest rates in the area even though the campground is 2.5 miles from Downtown Dells. The facilities are kept clean and the staff is quick to respond when an incident occurs. I highly recommend this place.
