The seasonal sites and campers are neat and well maintained. We had two sites: one camper and one tent. The sites were very roomy with fire pits and picnic tables and a good combination of sun and shade. We had a nice view of the small pond and used the campground's kayaks for a quick paddle. We enjoyed activities out and about during the days and relaxing, quiet mornings and evenings at the campground. The bathrooms were really clean. It seemed like the women's bathroom had just been cleaned every time I went in there. And such darling pictures on the walls! Area Activities: - Pickleball at Lions Park in Mauston - hauled our bikes to Hustler and biked to the tunnel - very cool! - geocaching all around including right at the campground entrance - Buckhorn State Park: hiked, picnic, beach and biked. Google showed bike trails in Buckhorn SP but the paths are very sandy, so we don't recommend biking in this state park!

Our reservations were individual and we lost all our money.

We based ourselves out of Amil's for two nights, and we were on our bikes only! The only down side of this lodging choice was the 2.5 mile ride to Amil's from the trail, but Hwy 131 was not super busy and felt completely safe to ride on. I'm not a regular B&B person at all, they are usually not my first choice in lodging. But this trip proved a B&B, AMil's in particular, was the best choice. Anita is the owner and proprietor of Amil's and she certainly knows what she's doing! The accommodations were super comfortable and the house, the rooms, the bathrooms and everything were off the charts clean. Breakfasts were also off the charts tasty and filling -- my only complaint is I could barely clean my plate there was so much to eat, and I didn't want to be rude by leaving anything to go to waste. Turns out the fuel was needed for the rides anyway, but....Yes, fresh wonderful breakfasts with ingredients from Anita's gardens, couldn't be beat. And endless coffee. We also enjoyed a morning stroll around the gardens and an evening sitting on the front porch watching the sunset. (The Cenex in town has a good beer and snacks selection and we enjoyed a dinner at the Hitching Post Bar in town one night). We didn't partake in sitting out back at the fire pit, but noticed the basket of s'mores supplies available for guests. Anita is delightful, and every detail was taken care of. Bottom line is Amil's was a lovely experience and I highly recommend staying here!

Well, we go on a camping/fishing trip every June but wanted to try out Wisconsin parks. I read some…read morereviews on other sites that mentioned a mosquito problem. I've been camping my entire life and have been to Alaska (where they consider the mosquito the state bird) and have never come across such a thriving population. we went through 6 bottles of deep woods off and hunters deet (50% to 98.5% Deet) and were still eaten alive! That was in the parking lot and the hike in camping areas. the fishing pier was nice and well kept. the area is beautiful. there is a bridge on the way in that goes over the water for a bout a mile and its just breathtaking. also a plus, the water is pretty windy so there werent a lot of mosquitos there. firewood on site is a good deal, especially since you cant bring it from most other places. my main problem is that there is a parking sticker requirement. this is for all wisconsin state parks. I booked the trip online and looked up and got out of state fishing licenses and all that. not once did i see anything that said i would have to buy a parking sticker. upon arriving to the park we were told that for our 5 day stay we could either pay for the year ($35) or buy daily passes for $10 each. its not that much if you know what you're signing up for. after driving for 5 hours, its quite a shock. The attention to detail and planning the owners have put into this new RV park is incredible - down to the very best shower/bathroom facility I've ever seen! I know they have many things planned for this park, but just the land and creek running through the land was enough for us to know we will be back soon! The sites are well-planned out, the water/sewer/electrical hook ups are brand new, once the grass grows a bit more the sites will be perfect! You can jump on the La Crosse River State Trail, only 5 minutes by bike or drive and park nearby. If you fish or just like to hike around, the creek is beautiful. The amount of time and effort put in to maintain the health of the creek is evident. The multi-generational family owners were so welcoming. I'm glad they decided to share this beautiful land with others! We will be back soon.
