Called this company because they looked professional, and used them on another house many years ago. I bought a new house recently and AC was not working. Service Visit 1: Heavy Cigarette Smoking Technician visited my house ... late in the day. Expressed that he had NY Rangers Playoff Tickets and did not have time to fully scope out system. He did have time to sell a "Contract" and filled the unit with "freon". He was smoking in my yard while he filled the unit with freon. Expressed he did not have time to do much else, and a contract would solve everything because the unit was "out of Maintenance. So I bought a contract. System Failed in less than a month... again, hottest time of year. Service Visit 2: I called the company and explained the original situation. No call from a service manager and no attempt to remedy the ridiculous 1st service visit. I requested a different engineer and someone who would have time to properly troubleshoot the system. A new technician came out and mentioned I had a freon leak in compressor and needed a new unit. He also left me with a unique choice to fill the unit with freon, and let it run, but "no guarantees". (This terrible for the environment)? He mentioned he will get me in touch with "sales." Lesson 1: Do NOT buy a contract, it's worthless and they still had not done initial "Maintenance Visit". I never received a visit for the contract before the next failure. Visit 3: Sales came out and offered a highly overpriced unit. I did not know how overpriced it was until I had another company come out. The sales guy was high pressure, and used the quick install date to attempt to pressure my decision. I asked to discount the service event if I purchased the new unit, and he stressed no discounts and sales and service are different buildings. Lesson 2: The company charges a lot for their units. They claim they are to of the line, but I'm not convinced. New Local Company was called for a second opinion. They thoroughly diagnosed the problem and found a kinked pipe and small leak causing the issue. I fixed the problem at a fraction of the cost. They quoted a comparable unit, if I wanted to still look at replacement, which was a fraction of the cost Reiner gave. Bottom Line - 1. Reiner left me with a worthless contract and high repair bills. 2. Did not fix the "real" problem "Twice" for over $1400 3. Clearly has an issue with sales and service in this company. One positive - One woman within the company was super helpful when I was trying to cancel my installation and return my deposit. read more

If there was a hall of fame for terrible service, I'd nominate Reiner Group. They installed our AC unit, stopped working after a week. Service person came out, different than installer, said coolant was low and the cap was off?! Then claimed sometimes kids will take out coolant to get high. I'm like you gotta be joking. He fills it, charges us, and leaves. Another week goes by same problem. Different service pair come and tells us the line was nicked during install. Incompetent and expensive. I had an extremely poor experience with the Reiner Group a few weeks back. I called them for service on my HVAC heating device. The technician was a nice person and had to come back twice to "fix" the problem. However, after being charged twice for parts and labor my heat stopped working again within days! The Customer Service person wanted to debate with me over the phone and was in my opinion rude. All she kept saying was "Well your heater is 21 years old"! So, after paying this company two separate payments and getting zero results I felt I had to move on. If the President of the company would like to discuss this with me I would be happy to discuss it prior to me going to the Better Business Bureau and filing a complaint. Zero Stars. PS: I had another firm come in, diagnose the problem. Explain exactly what Reiner did wrong and fixed my problem and now we get heat!!! It was all in the electronics. Avoid like the plague! Made the mistake of having a service contract with the Reiner Group for place I own in Wyckoff, NJ. Every time Reiner sent a service person the claimed they needed to do extra work outside of the service contract. Always trying to upsell. The final straw was when one of their service workers left the cap off the coolant in our AC compressor after a maintenance visit. About a week after their visit our AC stopped working. So we call Reiner since we have a service contract with them. Next person to come said whoever was "messing with" our AC unit really screwed it up. I'm like that was one of your service people. Their response was "Well, I don't know nothing about that!" Also, said maybe some neighborhood person came and messed with so they could drink the AC coolant. I thought they were joking, but he was serious. The only person I've ever met that seemed like they were drinking AC Coolant were service people from Reiner! When a consumer has a service contract with Reiner, a call for seasonal service should not be met with a first available date more than 60 days into the future. Reiner is obviously taking advantage of its maintenance contract costumers by clearly understaffing this service. Our central air conditioning was working satisfactorily until today. It is now over 90 degrees outside and climbing. Reiner did our annual service last Friday. All was good until last night. Our thermostat was set at 74 and when my 85 year old husband woke up at 5am our reading was at 77. It is still set at 74 and our reading now is at 82 and climbing. There is very little air coming through the vents and the air is warm. My husband called Reiner this morning. He was told that there is an automatic system in place whereby when it gets too hot the system is cut back 20 degrees. The lady said that's normal. She said she would put us in their list but there is no guarantee that someone could come to our house today. She also said we would have to pay an additional fee. We are sweating in our house right now. We are both seniors and we are feeling very vulnerable and Update: The Reiner service technician came to our house around 3pm. He found that the capacitor was defunct. He was able to replace it. The system seems to be working. It is over 90 degrees in our house so it will take a few hours to cool down. Fingers crossed that all goes well now. Having a yearly maintenance contract with Reiner for service, we were told we are entitled to a special rate ... my husband had to write a check for $320 vs $440 without a contract. Hired them to service roof top air conditioning units for a customer. Set up appointment. I was told my credit card would be charged a service call fee. $200.00. They showed up and spent four hours looking at the units. They did not fix them. They charged my credit card another $400.00. So, for $600 nothing got done. Never got a detailed charge bill showing what was done and had to be done. They had my email and contact info. NJ consumer law states that anything over $500.00 has to be in writing. They did try to call me, but why not send me the charges so I have something to question ? I hired another company, they fixed the problem in less then 2 hours. read more

I literally cannot begin to tell you how horrible this company is. I actually prefer mistakes over just nasty people who take advantage of people who are in need of service. My heat isn't working, temps are in the 30s overnight, I should not be being taken advantage of. Some key points are here and I will detail my experience after. 1- Don't call the office. Unless you know someone personally inside of this group, or you have ESP, they will not send you to the correct person. 2- Don't expect honest business. They will scam you even for one hundred extra dollars, even if you are already spending $2500 with them. 3- Don't expect them to keep appointment times. My appointment was "8-8:30" (obviously he didn't feel like committing to 8:00) and I am waiting here at 8:42. 4- Once you send the check/sign the contract, EXPECT TO WAIT! I sent a check for a new PTAC unit on July 27th after being told the lead time is 2-4 weeks. It is October 19th and my appointment is today (although he is still not here yet). So, here is what actually happened: My AC/heating units in my home broke. I started researching and came across a ductless split that I inquired about. Apparently, what i have is not comparable to a ductless split and I can't replace one for the other. I am not a heating/cooling expert so I was hoping someone could have helped me, knowing I'm not an expert, but instead they took advantage. I sent a picture to someone at Reiner of the units I have, and they came back to me saying it's a PTAC unit (not a ductless split), but that my building is rather new, so they are sure they can fix it instead of replacing it! I came back to them and said "well, if i'm going through this process I'd rather just replace it...my unit is loud, I don't want it to break again, etc.." They came back with an estimate of about $5000 to replace it! And advice: even the newest models wouldn't be quieter or nicer-looking anyway. So, reluctantly I agreed to have a technician come out and repair my "broken" PTAC units, rather than replace which is what I expressed several times that I wanted. The first thing the technician said when he walked in, was "well these units aren't really something you normally repair. Once they go, they go"...he looked at them both for about 20 mins each and decided they needed to be replaced. So, I had to make a new appointment, with a second person to come and "measure" so they can order me new units. (WHY the first person couldn't do that is obviously a case of unnecessary internal politics at Reiner where the service center can't help the "sales" dept if you can call it that). Of course, I was not arguing about the $200-something charge for the technician because I knew that a company like this would definitely just build that in to the new quote. So, since you need to be careful with these people, I waited until I got the quote and then asked via email to deduct this charge. I received this rude response: "I'm sorry, but I don't build in money for service calls to take out. I provided the price to you for two new units at your place. I'd really like to do business with you, but I don't hike up costs and build extra money in to take it out." Then I had to call several times because the SALES and SERVICE depts are different and each department kept bouncing me back and forth. Finally, I spoke with someone in the service dept who looked up records and said that because I made the service call, I should be charged for it. Anyway, that guy didn't get back to me for another few weeks but finally agreed to give me less than half of my $250 back. On July 27th I sent the check for $845 which is 1/3 of the cost of replacing my two PTAC units which were quoted with a 2-4 week lead time. On August 1st I followed up for confirmation which I didn't receive. It seems they want to do everything by phone because when you start to have things in writing, you have dates and times to stick to! I followed up several times in the coming weeks, at one point I was told "lead time is 8 weeks." I said "what? that isn't what you told me" and then I was later informed that he just randomly said that, and that it actually is 2-4 weeks, but he just didn't look up the info when I asked for an update. July 27th: Sent check August 1st: I followed up to see if they received the check because nobody contacted me August 29th: I followed up on the status August 29th: I was told it will be "at least 3-5 more weeks" September 18th: I was told the units are FINALLY shipping TO the Reiner warehouse October 5th: Units arrived ** Instead of being offered the soonest installation window, they asked "when do you want us to come" ... so I gave several windows and they chose the very last one of Oct 19th. October 19th: Appointment for "8-8:30 AM" ... it's 9:07 .... still no units here, and now I'm extremely late for work. UPDATE: It's 9:16 and they finally arrived..it will take an hour they said! read more

I just got a voicemail (9/6/18) by the estimator being told the he had been out sick and would get me the quote. It still hasnt been emailed. While I feel bad (if)he was sick, the estimate was early on 8/27; an email reply back that day saying thanks for the email Ill get back to you, or hey im going on vaca or something, anything, would have been nice. Perhaps if he was out sick for almost 2 weeks maybe management should have said there will be a delay. I've worked in customer service, you don't leave people hanging, especially if you want the sale. I no longer feel the customer service level is worth moving forward with this company if I only get results from a yelp review. Felt cheated, the only objective of the maintenance person is to generate sales. I recommend to get a second review before you fall to the pressure of the person telling all bad things that might happen if you do not agree. It is magical that the issue they say start happening as soon as they leave, I have faced this not once but twice . With heater and then with AC, something is fishy. I was told that AC water will start dripping as the refrigerants are low, And sure it did . But when I opened up there was a block on the pipe, a paper was blocking the outlet. Hmmmmm. Earlier heater fan was not working and I was told the life is over and it's breaking apart , can be dangerous. Sure I start hearing noises the very second day. ***STOP Do not even think of using Reiner. Last year they installed a Lochinvar natural gas wall hung tankless boiler replacing one from Baxi. They measured the closet and reassured me that the new boiler would fit with no issues in same space. The unit ended up not fitting it was larger and the closet door doesn't close now. They said they were going to come by and resolve this issue but never did because I obviously had already paid the their invoice. As far as how it works, we had a problem with the unit shutting down once to twice a month since new with an error message that reads no flame. It's an easy fix when we're home by pressing the reset button and the system and it goes back on. It's obviously bad when you wake up to a cold house or if you're in the middle of a shower. Why is this happening with a new boiler I ask. They came once and pretended to fix it but couldn't figure this out.? For the last three months I've been leaving messages to Tim Coles the residential service director but he won't return my calls to schedule an appointment. He doesn't want to be bothered. I called Lochinvar Direct and they were happy to recommend a real reputable company to fix my issue they came right away and took care of it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MARK LINDSAY & SONS 973-728-8900 They we're recommended by the manufacturer. They are on call 24 hours a day seven days a week and they truly care about every customer. Inconsiderate, horrible service. Told me I've have to wait a full week for my system to even be looked at after I lost all power in the midst of a heat wave. This despite my building having a contract with them. They seem to be more interested in bundling service calls into tiny areas on any given day than in addressing urgent needs of loyal customers. So instead of suffering for a week, I called a new vendor and they came out the same day to fix my problem. I should add that after I posted a negative review about Reiner on Google, this company misleadingly responded by suggesting everything was my fault, with the implication apparently being that I deserve to suffer in the heat because of my failure to maintain my equipment. But the issue that needed to be fixed, a transformer issue, had nothing to do with maintenance. Exercise caution when dealing with Reiner Group. Earlier this year, we asked them for a quotation to replace our aging HVAC units and was giving a written proposal. After comparing several quotes from other firms, and approximately 9 days after receiving Reiner's proposal, we decided to use them even though their price was slightly higher than any of the others. Upon notifying them that we were ready to proceed, they told us that they could not honor their written proposal and that they would have to increase their price by $4,300.00. I am livid with anger and frustration. And we had always thought Reiner were among the good guys! We've had a Reiner AC system for some 10 years now and it had been wonderful. We also have a yearly maintenance contract with them. Never had to use it until today. This morning a Verizon tech cut an AC wire while boring a hole in the floor. He offered to bring someone over to fix it right away but I wanted no one to touch the AC without Reiner's OK. We've been calling both the office and the emergency phone number since 9:30AM, with no response. Then I looked up their web site and realized they have a chat app. I used it and chatted with a really nice person who took my phone numbers and email address - and nobody used it, despite the fact that I told my "chat" guy that my husband has a heart problem and does not handle heat well. I wonder what would take to get Reiner to come and do what's probably a small job. I also wonder if they are aware what would happen to them if my husband has any reaction to the heat resulting from their indifference to their customers. 7/31/18 - Update to review - I received a phone call this morning from Andrew H., a Reiner employee, and less than an hour later a technician arrived to our home. He was very professional and fixed the problem, which was not as small as I thought it would be. (We're supposed to get reimbursed by Verizon, who caused the problem in the first place.) The mystery of Reiner non-responsiveness yesterday has not been explained yet, but we do have the AC working, and not a moment too soon - the morning was muggy and warm. I often wonder how people managed before HVAC. Maybe people were sturdier then, but this is beside the point. About 3 years ago Reiner installed my central ac. They were polite helpful and did a great quick job. Now my ac needs a repair and I do not have a contract with them. I called on May 26 2016 and was given an appt for June 28th.????????. I then call back and asked for an earlier appointment they said they have none, I should call periodically to check if they have a cancellation. So I called today around 9:30 am and the person was abrupt and rude when I was checking for any earlier appointment. I questioned her on the 24/7 service , I was thinking of obtaining it but she answered with a nasty tone stating I did not have a contract and abruptly hung up the phone on me. We wanted an estimate on installing mini-split AC system in our bedrooms. Glenn came out and spent about 20 minutes, measured the bedrooms, etc. He promised an estimate by Monday "the latest." It is now a week later and NOTHING. If they were too busy or just plain didn't want the job, the least they could do is send that in an email. We don't even expect a phone call; just let us know if you want the business. My husband owns his own business (has for over 25 years) and would NEVER dismiss a potential client. Update. After purchasing my boiler 1 year ago, I call for service on my boiler because it is leaking. 5 trips and 5 techs later, the boiler is up and running. It took them 5 trips because the front office never communicated to the techs the issue especially when a part needed to be ordered and this delayed it more. Front office needs a dramatic change due to the long wait times, promises of call backs and no communication whatsoever between them and their own techs and US, the customer. Had a brand new HVAC system installed in my home and there was a small issue with the thermostat after install. Ken O. came out to assist and was prompt and extremely helpful. As it was a new type of thermostat that had been introduced, it was still an unfamiliar product to everyone who had worked on my install, and Ken O took the time and effort to make sure it was running the way if should be, including providing me with some useful tips afterwards. (Note: the problem was not observed during the install as they worked on a very hot day and my place was an oven. The unit was required to run for quite some time afterwards to cool everything down and the problem was not found until long after the crew had finished for the day.) read more

I have never written an online review before, but I felt compelled to let other families know about our negative experience with the Reiner Group in Fair Lawn. We contracted with the Reiner Group for replacement of our air conditioner unit with a Lennox system based on the recommendations of their technician Richard Sellitto. In less then a year after installation the unit failed. The company subsequently failed to repair the unit under the existing warranty agreement. The Vice President of Reiner, Anthony Gasparovich, informed me that based on the images taken during the initial assessment by his engineer Rich Stilleto, there was an issue with how the system was set up. This problem was never disclosed by Reiner during when they assessed the system and was not included in their initial estimate for the repair. Mr. Gasparovich said that it was not Reiner's responsibility to either identify this problem initially, or inform me of that problem because "they are in a business and if they did that their estimates would always come in highest and they would never get the job." However, if they were aware of a problem that would cause a system to fail after they installed it wouldn't an ethical company disclose those concerns? There are many high quality HVAC companies to chose from. Like most of you I am not an HVAC expert and need to rely on the experts to correctly diagnose the problem and propose a solution. That requires a company who is competent and honest. What I do know is that Reiner is neither of these things. If you want a trustworthy company with high ethical standards that will stand behind their work, stay far away from Reiner. I took this all the way to their Vice President Mr. Gasparovich, and it was clear that they may be a large company, but they certainly don't take pride in how they treat their individual customers. read more

I recently had Central Air put into my 64 year old house, I went out for bids and Reiner came in the middle. They started the job on a Monday and were finished by Wednesday which included installing all the duct work. I must say that not only were they courteous, but they cleaned up each day as though they weren't even there. Roy came each day to check up on the guys to ensure compliance with the contract. Where to start with Reiner. In June of 2015 we set an appointment with Reiner. Their salesman came, scanned the house, did his thing, and came back with an estimate for ductless air conditioning. Seeing as how we were new homeowners, in an old house, doing central air was a no-go. About a month later, the job started and within 3-4 days was complete. They were clean and efficient. Yet, here is where things went awry. One of the 4 ductless air units was DOA. Reiner's salesman, Rich, claimed this never happens. They had to call our their head tech, Frank, and another tech, and another tech just to determine this unit was DOA. They had to swap a brand-new unit out with another brand-new unit. So be it. I think this is the end of it. Well, all 4 units begin working, but as I type this, nearly 1 year later, a problem that developed shortly after install has gone unresolved. Shortly after install, a sound starting coming from the outside unit that could be heard through the various units inside. It's loud enough for me to hear it right now, as I type this. How many guys came and looked at the unit trying to figure out what the problem was (even with a video that I provided them to prove the sound was a real thing)? I can't even remember...there was Frank, there was Rich, there was Carlos, there was a guy from Mitsubishi...I mean, some of the most experienced guys, who sold themselves as the pre-eminent know-it-alls of these Mitsubishi units COULD NOT figure out what the problem was. Their answer? Well, if it works, deal with it. So a year later, this sound, which they GUESSED was a coolant bypass issue, remains unresolved, and $15k+ yielded very little accountability. Once they got their money, they were gone. Oh, and 5 months later...I got a letter in the mail saying my yearly checkup was soon. Nope..it wasn't. That would be another 7 months later. I'm writing this now, not as a means of disparaging the work of the men who installed, but as a means of stating that while the units work (and for many, they don't even have the benefit of A/C, so this may sound like sour grapes), the know-how of the Reiner bunch really impressed me with the install guys, not the repair techs or service guys. 1 year after install, I can still hear this "coolant bypass" issue coming through all 4 ductless units inside the house. read more

I would stay away from using this company. During the initial stages of quoting me a price for a PTAC unit, they had inspected my old unit to get the exact dimensions for the new unit. They explained the installation would take 4-5 hours to install; and thus a $1,100 installation charge was warranted. In reality it took 15 minutes to install the new unit. I feel I was complete deceived and over charged for the installation. They had no common courtesy to meet me in the middle or be more realistic for an up charge.
