Love this place! It is a small hole in the wall just off of Davidson. If you are in the Noda area you should make a stop and try them out if you have not yet. The parking in Noda is getting tighter and tighter so the only downside side To this place is it is hard to just swing by and do a pick up unless you have someone with you. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is their small variety of donuts. I wish they just had 2-3 more choices in their line up. With that said their cinnamon sugar and honey donuts are out of this world!!!! The honey is great when it is hot and fresh but does lose a little flavor the next day but the cinnamon sugar ones are wonderful hot and fresh and the next day. My sister and i looked at the menu online and asked our family which donut they would like to try. We were skeptical at first when we saw "made to order" on the website but ITS TRUE! We initially arrived with a list of 5 donuts and by just seeing the amount of people waiting and smelling the deliciousness we decided a dozen was the way to go. Our doughnuts were made quickly and they were inexpensive. We tried the honey, blueberry lemon, vanilla, chocolate, powdered sugar, and lemon poppy. They were all amazing. Every single one. I might have had a one-off experience, but I think this place is pretty average. I went on a weekday morning (9:30) and there was only one person ahead of me. No one came after me, that would have tied up the process. Tell me why I had to wait 10 minutes for TWO donuts to come out? Also, why would you serve hot, freshly glazed donuts in a BAG? Half the icing stuck to the top of the bag by the time I was in my car and ready to eat them. Seems odd to me. The donuts themselves are cake based, and have a good taste and texture. The toppings & icings that were available were pretty basic, at least on the day that I went. If you're in the area, they're worth a try. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come here. I'd much prefer Duck Donuts any day. read more

My friends and I were SO excited to head over to reigning doughnuts after a going away dinner at heist. We made the walk and were so excited for these hyped up treats. We were all super disappointed. These doughnuts are just average, ok and obviously edible because it's fried dough with sugar on top. The consistency of the cake is just average, icing average, flavors simple but taste average. They aren't good once they cool down either so eat them while they're hot- they almost get hard. We tried between the group every flavor including the flavor of the day lemon poppyseed. It's a cute hidden store right on the side of the Growlers... but don't worry if you can't find it, just look for the line of people. Honestly what Reigning Doughnuts did is a killer idea. No seats.. no doors.. no problem. Just a small window in the side of a wall serving out fresh doughnuts to the patrons that walk up on foot to get their fix. Certainly a lot of costs they are cutting down on on the back end of running a food establishment. You can find these guys where the lit up trees are beside Growlers. Usually opened 7-11 both day and night during the weekdays and then all day on the weekends. Walk up to the window and order and wait for them to fry you up a doughnut quickly after. They fry them fresh to ensure you get the best donut possible! They have a solid list of every day flavors. I went for vanilla glazed and loved it. The small crunch in every bite is heavenly. They have great coffee and prices on all their menu items is reasonable. I mean it's only a dollar and two dimes for a single donut. A dozen will run you 13 dollars. The donuts are slightly smaller than your average KK donut. But they definitely taste better!! And I don't care if you like the light on over at KK there is no way it gets fresher than this!! I think that they need to find a way to improve their serving of single donuts because like others mentioned. A lot of my icing was removed in the wax paper bag it came in. That's a downer for sure but at least there was still some left. The flavors they had were great but I hope to see them experimenting with some new creations and perhaps running a special on a custom donuts more and more in the future. I'm certainly going to be making the trip back there often because it's just so easy to stop and grab a donut after a meal or hitting the bars on the way back home. read more

Reigning Doughnuts is a mere window off a side street in NoDa. The concept is novel and fun, but to me the donuts were just 'okay.' The donuts are served hot and fresh, but they place them in sleeves/bags that cling to, and then effectively remove, the frosting/toppings. They have a slight crunch to them before getting to the cake like center. The flavors are limited, but I'm guessing they will rotate seasonally. Reigning also offers counter culture coffee and hot chocolate. The place certainly adds to the appeal of NoDa and fits right into the neighborhood mix. I'll certainly go back on occasion, but I'm not longing for a donut fix on the daily. read more

Mmmm...donuts. We tried this place for the first time Sunday morning. There is a short wait after you order while they prepare your donuts for you. We went with 2 chocolate frosted with sprinkles, a honey-glazed, and a cinnamon sugar. (Their "flavor of the day" was peanut butter frosting with banana chips, which sounded intriguing, but we didn't ultimately try.) Donuts aren't too big, and priced accordingly. At $1.20 each, and about the size of a mandarin orange or persimmon, you can eat a couple for breakfast without feeling like you swallowed a lead balloon. The donuts are served up warm. If you order a dozen, they come flat in a box, but since we got only four, they were in a bag. Each donut was in a separate little sleeve (think: a value size order of fries) within the bag, which I appreciated so the toppings wouldn't rub off on each other. These are great cake donuts: very soft inside with a lightly crunchy (and not overly greasy) exterior. The cinnamon sugar was my favorite, as the topping/donut proportions seemed well balanced. The honey glaze came out DRIPPING, and left a pool in the bottom of the sleeve, but my boyfriend seemed to like it. I feel mixed about the chocolate frosted ones. The main flavor that came through on the icing was basically just sugar. It's a very pale brown coating under the sprinkles, so it's either only a bit of cocoa or light milk chocolate doing the work, and does not impart much chocolate flavor. I prefer a darker chocolate glaze, like what you'd find on an eclair or boston cream style donut, or else a thicker more-chocolatey ganache. This would be the only thing I could ask for improvement on, to be honest! For drinks, we got a decaf coffee and hot chocolate. The girl at the window (SUPER friendly, btw) pulled out some beans to grind, so I was pleased to get a fresh cuppa and didn't mind the wait. I don't know if they do this for all coffee, or if it was just that decaf isn't as much in demand so is made more on a to-order basis? Four donuts, a coffee and large hot chocolate ran us around $12 and change. I'll be back. read more

We drove from Dilworth to Noda and parked in our secret parking space and walked over to the window. We ordered one cinnamon sugar (their most popular) and a vanilla with sprinkles. After about 2 minutes they both came out of the window pipping hot!!! They were very good if you like old-timey doughnuts. The customer service is phenomenal, the donuts TO DIE FOR (who is Krispy Kreme??) I will warn you, they have strange hours; They're good enough thought to extend their late night hours. We were walking around in NODA and stumbled upon this donut window shop. Their hours are posted outside where we realized they were opening in 15 minutes. They are opened from 8am-12pm then the open again from 5pm-9pm. As we smelled the frying of the donuts, we decided to sit and wait on the bench in front of the window for them to open. My daughter and I decided on 3 donuts for us to share. We chose honey glaze, cinnamon sugar, and s'mores. It took them about 5 minutes to make up our picks. The donuts were packages in a cute box special designed for 3 donuts. Super excited to open the donuts, we quickly found a spot. They all looked delicious. The donuts were warm and fresh. Originally I expected the honey glaze to be a bit boring, boy was I wrong. It had a nice crisp crunch on the outside but soft on the inside, Not overly drenched in honey either. The s'mores (the daily special on Thursday) was laced with a white icing and topped with pieces of chocolate cookie-crumbs- yummy! The cinnamon sugar was also scrumptious.
