A cashier we had was so unnecessarily aggressive about their stupid membership program. This older blonde lady was our cashier and wouldn't stop hounding us about it after we said no at least 4 times. Then she made a backhanded comment about us saying no. The line was already so long and she was being overly aggressive wouldn't stop pushing it. Genuinely makes me never want to go back!! And their shit is ridiculously overpriced lol read more

We love REI! We love this one most because it's smaller and close to home. While it doesn't have everything it does fit the needs of most our needs plus the staff is kind and super knowledgeable. The staff here actually want to help! You walk in and doesn't take long before someone wants to help. I love how easy the in store pickup is here as well. My kids love to run around the store as well with things they enjoy in the kids section. Of all REI it's always my fav one to hit up plus it's on the way up to mountains depending which way you go up. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before wasting my time here. Like others, I have been a loyal REI member for decades, but I'll take my loyalty elswehere. Walked in when there were less than 5 shoppers, yet a store full of employees who looked like they couldn't be bothered. No one greeted me or asked if I needed any help. When I did inquire about a size for an item, I was greeted with a shrug and "I have no idea." I officially have no further interested in REI and have no idea why I was a supporter as long as I was. I was pleasantly surprised at the level of detail I received when shopping at this location. I walked up to the service counter to ask about the difference between two items and the employee was very thorough in his answer and gave an A to B comparison and even gave a C option for a different part that he brought out from the back of the store. Went in to explore options for a comfortable shoe today and have never had a worse experience buying shoes. The two men that waited on me were rude and unhelpful. I will never buy shoes at rei again. Unpleasant REI Store! As an REI member for more than 20 years, I can honestly say this is the worst REI store I've been to. Rude, unhelpful employees create an uncomfortable atmosphere that makes me never want to come here except for convenience of the location. This has happened on multiple visits. Obviously this store has poor management and leadership or this wouldn't be allowed to occur. Also, this store always seems to have a very low selection of just about every category, and very few sizes in clothing. REI should either replace the entire management and employee team, and get the inventor problem fixed....or just close the store. read more

Literal worst service ever, the customer service reeks like garbage from its doors and oozes down the walls like green slime. My wife and I were in there for over 45 minutes WAITING patiently for a sales associate to help us get some shoes, but they ignored us. 5 employees walked right past us AS WELL as carried on personal conversations in front of us. Finally, we got help (after asking three times), asked if they had the shoe in stock in the back; as the website said they had over 50 in her size, and exact shoe she wanted; in stock for pickup, (he said let me scan it and go check, great!) gave the exact shoe (he SCANNED THE SHOE) and her size, and he went back for another 20 minutes. He then comes out with the wrong shoe as well as the wrong size? Highly do not recommend this REI, we have been loyal customers for years, but never again at this location. read more

Haven't shopped much, in person, during our lovely pandemic, but really enjoyed my trip to REI in Littleton. Social distancing, monitoring the store's capacity (while also greeting every customer and offering help / support in finding anything before you ever step in the door = cool), providing masks if you don't have one to wear, limiting dressing room options and sanitizing after all 40 of my trips to the dressing room - it's the little things like this that make you feel quite taken care of, especially now days. And, as always REI staff know their stuff, are happy to help you find anything, offer recommendations and just generally be cool humans. I heart REI and the selection of climbing / hiking pants didn't disappoint. I honestly tried on at least 15 pair - and left with my three favorite. Great location, parking was easy as always, lines at the check out went fast and smoothly and the personal service as mentioned before is fabulous. read more

Not all REI's are the same. This is true in this location. I'm referring to my experience with a staff. At a minimum I expect their staff to be knowledgeable about the very basic gear. A hydration pack to be exact. I've been doing research for years and it might be tedious for some but if you do it right it's a world of info right there waiting for you to stuff your brains with. Duhh. I've grown fond of trail running and decided to immerse myself in researching the best fit for me as far as hydration pack. They're different in size and is even displayed in a different location under physical fitness and not mixed in with the backpacking ones. I found my best fit in an Osprey Rev 6. I assumed I'm a S/M. I'm not. My torso is a M/L. All that I found out on my own. On my second trip to exchange my purchase for a bigger size, I met this really nice lady. I wanted some opinion but when I heard her ask me if I wanted to try it in the dressing room I was at first curious why. Is that a new way of trying these things ? Am I missing something? So I asked why. Her answer? "Oh you don't try it on like a shirt?" Oh my! Ok that thing look like a vest. So maybe why she thought that...? But who wears a vest on the trail naked? Lol! Ok. A big learning curve for that lady. Or she needs to get on with it and learn pronto! Yes she said she's at a minimum a hiker. I'm ahead of you there :) I think she's an anomaly. She just got hired. I'm sure REI will get her gear going in no time. In the meantime the rest of the skeleton crew here seem seasoned! read more

I took my ski bindings in to be adjusted for my height, weight and skill level. They adjusted my ski to a Din of 5 which is way too low. Next powder day I went out, and both skis ripped off in the deep powder. I tore both my hamstrings which took months to heel. From now on I adjust my own bindings. read more

I lost my binding while skiing last week. Just before this REI had adjusted my skis for new boots I bought at the downtown store. The guy at the ski shop told me that REI doesn't have a relationship with the maker of my ski and so I'm on my own. I found a ski shop near me that does have a 'relationship' with them and called and got a binding comped to them. All I need to do is pay for the mounting. I understand REI is a business and they need good policies to make a profit, but telling me I'm on my own was not great customer service. Later, a shop supervisor called me and offered to replace the binding labor wise if I secured it. He did, sort of, apologize for the lack of customer service that I had received. My experience with REI has good and bad, mostly good so this behavior was confusing, to say the least. read more

Was needing help and advice about cold hiking gear in the Lakewood Denver store and had excellent customer service by Mike in the Shoe Department and Lindsay in the Gloves, socks and Coat/Jacket areas. I wanted to compliment both of them for helping me out. Lindsay was extremely knowledgeable about the jackets in-store and offered lots of advice and suggestions. Mike in shoes was very knowledgeable and gave me a new way to lace and tie my shoes and even helped out with suggestions and advice while trying on several types of socks. Thank you to Mike and Lindsay for sharing your wisdom with a newbie! Will definitely return here! read more

Went to this location after not being helped at the englewood location and was helped by Nikki. Went in wanting one pair of shoes, but she educated me how another pair was better and why. The other pair was $30 more than what I wanted to spend, but man was she encouraging me to get em. Was never pushy and I felt like she genuinely wanted the best for me, so that's why she was advocating for the pair she was. Walked away with what she recommended, will be testing them out this week! read more

After being stopped, first by a stop sign, then by a youn female minion with a notepad asking "why were we there" we next encountered a young man telling us our six year old had to be in a mask. When I reminded him that Colorado "suggested" protocols were, "non mandatory masks for children under 10 years of age" he went into a diatribe of how "REI, is Doing their best to flatten the curve, and go above and beyond health standards." Whomever runs this company is clearly incapable of reading Any medical journals or research, and are compelling their private sector workers to behave as fascist puppets for $12 an hour, interrogating and harassing customers, and their small children I will Never give this company our business again, and will encourage everyone I know, to boycott continued Anti American behavior like this. read more

There seems to be a different/weird/inept employee culture in Lakewood, CO store, than others. Been here 7/8 times - just don't feel the love or warmth experienced at other local rei stores. At recent visit to Lakewood accidentally left expensive sunglasses in footwear dept. on the bench after choosing the pair of shoes to buy...and then spent 30 minutes browsing and picking up several other items to buy throughout the store. After paying, realized didn't have sunglasses. Becky in Footwear found them right after I walked away, but put them in the back room, instead of bring them to the front lost and found, or better yet paging the customer who just purchased shoes and left their sunglasses. No common sense or she's just lazy...whichever, I find it hard to believe that REI's employee policy states to put a customers lost item in the back, where only she knew where it was. Will be avoiding this unit in the future. read more

I was in REI yesterday looking for some hiking pants and I got the best service. I have been in this store twice this year before last night and the service has been good but people were jumping through hoops for me last night. I had lots of questions and needed in and out of the dressing room several times. I might also need to mention that is was a Sunday evening at 6pm. They close at 7pm. I am sure everyone was ready to head home on a Sunday night and I am in there shopping and not being a quick "know what I want" customer. They were great. At the front checking out I had lots of questions about their rewards program and the cashier patiently explained and answered questions. It was a great experience all around. read more

My parents purchased a mountain bike for my birthday. They called in the order, and the person quoted them a pick up date. They then got told the date changed, then they got an email saying the bike was ready. We called to confirm but no one answered the phone, so we drove over to grab it. Was ignored by the helper out front, then got a manager come out to tell us our order wasn't ready. Told us we have to wait an additional 6 days for a bike. No apology or anything. In fact the manager passed the blame onto his sales manager and told us he called and "left a voicemail". This is really poor service REI. We drove from Elizabeth to Lakewood to pick this up, just to be told we couldn't get it. Again, poor management. We pay to be part of the this Co Op, and this is the service we get in return. Awful, and I really hope the regional manager see's how bad this store is performing. DON'T shop at this REI, no one knows what's going on. There's a reason this stores ratings blow, REI should shut this one down. Also, the call we received about the order was made at noon, then we got a confirmation email about our order being ready at 3:45pm. Got a the run around from so Lead claiming you be a manager, telling us all emails are generated when bikes are "done" but aren't really done. read more

My review is based upon the employee who looked at me and said "I'm not cleaning that right now" and walked off. The employee was female with long brunette hair. Lakewood location. You might want to rethink being in retail. That sentence sounded like you didn't feel like cleaning it and no clue as to how long the wait would be. I was left there wondering if it would be 5 minutes or 20 min. You could have and should have been a lot nicer. read more

In case you had any doubt to the fact that REI is the tops when it comes to customer service, please read on. We noticed a crack in our over the car storage box (Thule) and I got zero response when I called the Thule corporate line. Boy am I glad it was an REI purchase though. I called the Lakewood store and J Middleton and Kathleen (their managers) couldn't have been more helpful. They asked that I bring the box in for inspection and I pushed back a little... This box is well over 50 pounds and getting it on and off my car by myself is a huge undertaking. I didn't want to make the haul if I was simply going to get a no on the return. I sent them some pictures instead and we agreed on a time that I should bring it in after they reviewed the pics. J met me in the parking lot to personally assist with hauling it inside and was such a helpful, kind and knowledgeable representative of their company. J shared with me that he is moving on to the Downtown Denver location but Lakewood gets the five stars on this one, all thanks to him. read more

Customer service is lacklustre at best and needs to step up. I get the whole camaraderie but it's cold and the season where people are going to come in and talking about what you hunted last weekend should keep to a minimum. I'd rather freeze than buy a jacket or shoes from this location and probably will after standing there for 12+ minutes. Will try the downtown one but I'm not getting my hope up. I went in for wool sock liners. Found them! Sign said "30% off for members." Great. Picked up a few pairs and stood in line for almost 20 minutes. Cashier rang them up and informed me that I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO BUY THE SOCKS. WTH. No signage stating this. To say I was disappointed and somewhat angry that I drove 1/2 an hour only to be informed that I can't buy socks is stupid and a wonderful way to guarantee I won't be stopping in again. I have always had such excellent and individualized customer service at this store. I wish I knew his name to thank him personally, but a young man spent a very long time with me explaining different ways to keep my fingers warm and helping me with gloves and mittens. For COVID: You need a reservation for the shoe department which I appreciate. It ensures you get 1:1 service without having to wait around for availability. Right now you ARE allowed to try on clothes, in some places you aren't due to COVID. REI accepts anything for return, so convenient. Thank you REI. read more

I went to 8 different bike shops yesterday. All of which told me different assumptions as to what would be a good solution to make my bike 1x12 drivetrain. After being told a multitude of different things, I finally show up to REI Littleton as a last resort, to return a cassette I was told would work on my bike, which I purchased at the REI Flagship in Denver. (I have always been reluctant to have service or suggestions from large corporate stores due to bad experiences elsewhere.) This is when I met Nate, and Nelson. When I walked in, Nelson came right up to me and I explained the mess to him. His first response was to take my bike and start seeing what cassette would fit. Something NO one, out of the multitude of techs, or workers I had talked to yesterday had offered to do. Nelson and Nate worked with me for an hour before asking the Tech, Chet, for some assistance. Chet comes and immediately starts seeing things that were causing problems and starts helping me troubleshoot my derailleur and cable housing. I explained to them that I just wanted to get a ride in on my days off, Tuesday and Wednesday, on my new bike before happily dropping it off for the week to get necessary adjustments. Chet, Nelson, and Nate hands down provided the best customer service experience I have EVER had. They worked with me for the better part of 3 hours and taught me SO much along the way. Not only did they provide amazing support, they also got my bike riding for me so I could satisfy my itch to ride my new bike. I will be back, and this will be the ONLY bike shop I use as long as I live in this area. read more
