This is not about product or selection. It's about service. I have been to a half a dozen times and each time I leave feeling as if I was a massive inconvenience to everyone who work there because I asked a question. And as for value and selection, they're just like all the other decent fly shops in Denver. I have moved all of my business to Anglers All because I don't get treated like I'm an idiot at that store. And it's a real shame because this store was closer to me, but I'm tired of working so hard to give them my money and being treated like I'm such a bother. Avid Max staff is very helpful, experienced and their inventory is pretty deep...great prices as well. Very good location near DTC is definite plus! So disappointed. Item (sweater) purchased and shipped. It ended up being the wrong color. Called the company and they were very friendly and said they would do the exchange. They charged me to ship it back (I should have known better...) and promised that they would send the right sweater to me and even to send over a tracking number. More than 10 days later and no follow up. I send an email... a no response. I finally call and speak to someone. They tell me that they got the return but that their "system" had a glitch and no exchange had occurred. They wanted to charge AGAIN me to send the right item to me. At best, this was shoddy customer service and at worst, it's dishonesty. They got an item back and get to re-sell it and I'm out shipping fees with nothing to show for it. read more

First of all, it's so sad when people use Yelp to distort the true culture, service, and product of a vendor especially when the reviews are so opposite of who they are. I get it. Sometimes hiccups do happen even from the best vendors out there. And then there are "paid reviewers" to leave negative reviews so their competitors can gain with a better rating. However, as another customer of AvidMax, I hope to draw a more realistic picture of their excellent service and products. I have probably interacted with them for more than 20 times over the past 10 months so my input is not coming from a one-time interaction. With that said, I absolutely LOVE AvidMax. Whether I'm ordering online or swinging by the shop , they have always shown respect, professionalism, and friendly service to me. Doesn't matter who I deal with, I have received a consistent great service from every single one of them. There's just a genuine care and family-like dynamic to their staff team overall. I love networking with them and even go out of my way to swing by the shop to talk with their staff and pick up my order. Their products and pricing are top notch, not to mention their frequent promotional and discounts available (on top of 5% Avidmax Reward program). Return policy is very reasonable and I have never run into any issues for any returns. They are expanding their in-store display of their gears which I absolutely love. Even if they don't have it displayed, they can go retrieve it from their back inventory most of the time. I appreciate the way they try to involve the community by giving away gifts from their product review and social media challenges. Their blogs, fly tying & product review videos, and #AvidMax tags all provide a great educational means for customers to learn more about various activities and products. Overall, I highly recommend AvidMax to outdoor lovers who need gears for camping, hiking, water sport, photography, and of course, fly fishing. And they even have gears for our avid dog lovers! In May of 2022 we experienced major house fire. I lost almost all of my fly fishing gear that I had accumulated over 40 years. I turned to AvidMax to replace most of it, including a 7 wt, 4 pc, 9 ft TFO LK Legacy rod. I ordered the rod in September of 22 and received it forthwith. I put it away, since I seldom use anything over 5 wt. In July of 2023 I was packing for a trip to New Mexico and decided to take the 7 wt rod as a backup. That's when I discovered that they had inadvertently sent me an 8 wt rod by mistake. I had purchased a 7 wt class reel and several 7 wt lines at that point, so I definitely needed the 7 wt I had orderd. I called AvidMax and they were very responsive in resolving the problem. I shipped the rod back to them and, after verifying my story, they ordered a 7 wt rod from TFO and had it shipped directly to me. There was never any discussion about their standard 30 day return policy. I will continue to use AvidMax as my go-to supplier of fly fishing gear. read more

Fantastic service and product! I recently bought a fly fishing backpack, the Mindshift Catch & Release, based on AvidMax's YouTube video. Frankly, the video looked too good to be true, but the pack really is that good! Not only is the product outstanding, so is AvidMax customer service. There was one small strap, of minor importance, missing from the pack. I emailed them about it and within an hour I received a phone call and followup email.
